So I recently scored on Ebay and found an LLT Roderich for way under the price he goes for. The only flaw listed was a small chip in his face-up on the tip of his nose, no biggie I can fix that. I took the plunge and bid on him and happened to be the only bidder, go me!!! He arrived today, and let's just say it wasn't in the way I was expecting. First, the box...? Okay....not the original LLT box. That's fine. I'm sure the seller unstrung him and packaged him carefully in pieces to cut the cost of shipping. Again, no biggie I string dolls all the time. You guys, what I saw when I opened the box almost gave me a heart attack. My grail doll was bent in half, taped together with clamshells from a different figure and plastic bags being the only buffer/protection from getting damaged. The scariest bubble wrap mummy I've ever laid eyes on. Checking for damage, luckily not finding any. WHEW, he's safe. No damage other than some undisclosed staining on his legs that I wasn't able to scrub off with a magic eraser. If anyone has tips for removing black stains from resin please let me know!!! He's beautiful and I can't be too mad considering I got him for under $800, but jesus christ that was a scary unboxing. Hope you all enjoy him, I can't wait to get him some clothes and style him! And while his face-up is beautiful, I don't know if it suits his character yet - I may wipe him and try something simpler.
Oh no, I can just imagine how your heart must have sunk on opening that box! It's good to hear he is in one piece. On a side note, I was SURE when I read the title of your post that it was going to involve a spider in the doll or package or something I'm glad that wasn't the case! (Edit: although personally I like non-dangerous spiders!)
I'm glad your doll arrived safely. If there is no body blushing on the area you want to remove stains from then I would just recommend adding some solvent to the cleaning action. Wipe or scrub with rubbing alcohol or whatever you would normally remove a faceup with in your household.
Congratulations on getting him home. I am glad he arrived safely to you despite the scary boxing! You might try a light sand paper on the black spot on his leg. If it's only a surface stain that should get it off. I find those four sided emery boards give a really smooth finish.
Holy crap, this is terrifying indeed! I wonder if the seller had no idea what they really had- would explain not only the low price, but the, er, unconventional packaging. Maybe they didn't know that resin is fragile. Still though, I wouldn't even ship a plastic figure like that lol.
I received an original Dollshe Hound folded together like this yeaaaars ago from someone that clearly didn't know what they were selling (the seller bought up abandoned storage units). Still remember getting the tiny ass box and asking myself how the hell a 70cm doll was supposed to fit in there Grats on your Roderich though, and thank god he's fine!
Oh my god, the reminds me on the time I received a secondhand doll from the Netherlands who was shipped loose, no bubble wrap, between two small pillows, in a SHOE BOX, (like, the kind with holes in it, that weren't even tape over!) and also by some miracle was completely undamaged!
First of all, congratulations on your Roderick. Personally, buying discontinued molds is magical and enchanting, although it's also often expensive (sometimes) and risky, for various reasons, since the sale isn't official. In short, since you have it at home I hope you enjoy customizing it
Crikey! Glad he got home safe, especially since he's your grail doll! And what a handsome fella he is
