The not-so-secret-anymore Concept Art Contest

Aug 1, 2018

    1. Traditional art has always had some connection to the BJD hobby in one way or another. People can draw dolls, paint a picture of them, and some even make money to buy dolls by selling art and art commissions!

This year we have a special surprise contest here in Brigadoon. Your challenge is to make concept art for one of the dolls below. Show us the character you would create if you had the chance to own this doll!

Our prize for this contest is a nude, blank, GRANADO VINDOLL Udell or a nude, blank, GRANADO VINDOLL Charles! (winner gets to pick one of them!)

These images will serve as the inspiration for your artwork:
      vindollprizegraphic.jpg

IMPORTANT: Remember to only use this photo as inspiration - but do not directly copy or trace it, or modify it with photo editing software.

      Rules
      1. Your entry must be your own creation. Do not copy, trace or otherwise use materials that aren't yours.
      2. The art must be made specifically for this contest.
      3. Your entry must be made with a VINDOLL Udell or Charles in mind.
      4. You may only submit one entry.
The concept art can be anything from a bust-shot showing how you imagine the doll to look like with a face-up and wig, to a full-body concept for their character and clothing style. The art can be made in any medium: traditional or digital.

Please keep in mind that this doll is off topic for Den of Angels. It may only be shown on the forum together with an on topic doll or here in Brigadoon :)

All entries must meet the general anniversary contest rules and eligibility requirements.

      How to Enter
Post your entry in this thread.
Only post contest entries – chat, questions or comments will be removed.

There must be an image with your entry. You are allowed to add a link to a full size image if you wish, but the entry must have an image shown in the thread.

Our winner will be selected by the Den of Angels staff. DoA staff may enter for fun but may not win the prize.

      Important Dates

Deadline for entries: August 30th, 11:59pm EDT

If you have any questions about the contest, post in Ask the Moderators.

    2. The mod team deliberated for a long time! :XD:
With so many entries, there was a lot to go through! We all have different tastes, and we all like a lot of different styles! We all had different thoughts for our favorite entries - we looked at the art itself, the character design of each entry, the backstory of the character, and how each art piece captured the essence of the character. And while there were a lot of entries, there could be only one winner. And this year's winner is

      @keelerleah !
      (entry: /posts/12499477/)

Many thanks to everyone who entered the contest this year~ A great part of the doll hobby is creating characters and backstories for your dolls - a topic which is relegated here to Brigadoon, so it was great fun to explore, and see all the wonderful art you all came up with! <3

This wraps up the last of the Anniversary contests this year, thank you everyone for joining in our festivities!

    3. Here's my entry, a reclusive vampire Udell!~

Edit: I was so excited that I powerhoused through this drawing, I forgot to talk about him! This character's name is Chrisander (named after my uncle Chris, who lost his battle with alcohol addiction recently). He's a recluse, very shy, and lives alone in a decrepit house no one goes near. All he has to keep him company are the same books and tomes he's read for the past hundred years or more. He has an overactive sweet tooth, is a bit socially clumsy and awkward, and while his house looks like an abandoned mess on the outside I picture him keeping it rather tidy on the inside. Almost like he's silently waiting an eternity for someone to take the plunge and walk into his parlor....

    4. This is my Concept Art for Vindoll Udell.

Thousands of faces surround me – illuminated by neon lights. Flashing signs. But no-one sees me. I blend. I don the markings of a rebel - the lower-class slum dwellers. Darkness swallowed our world, so we must scar ourselves with ink and steel to be noticed. But they don’t notice. They never do. My blades remain hidden in their pouches under my coat – the straps across my chest ‘just another fashion trend’. And when my target cuts through the crowd, my shadows smother him. I slink back into the chaos with my hood pulled low over my eyes…the blood of a sinner staining my blades, my hands, my soul. I am the Assassin. I am your End.”

    5. Here is my art concept for Vindoll Charles. I call this piece "Son in the City.".. or...."Sun in the City", if you wish! I see Vindoll Charles as a man who grew up in a bustling city , loves the night-life, nice suits during the day, play by night and perhaps has a small group of friends who do the same.

    6. This seemed fun enough that I did a few concept sketches and out came the watercolors! Imagining Charles as something of an Anglo Saxon warrior, although the hair is definitely more inspired by Marius from Interview with a Vampire... I recently discovered a love of creating historical characters for dolls, so Charles would have to have his everyday attire as pictured and eventually something a little more suited for battle. (Image links to full size version.)

    7. Ok here is my design for Udell ^_^ the arm would be modified with miliput or just painted to look like that. You can't really see the back of the jacket shrunk down to 600 pixels but it's a tiger and some flames, also his eyes are purple.

    8. I've always imagined Udell as a Voodoo Witch Doctor. His face is so angular that I can easily imagine a skull painted on to it. He'd be a bit intimidating but ultimately very friendly. His closest companion would be a crow that goes everywhere with him and always finds a nice spot to perch on his shoulder. He'd walk through the crowded streets of New Orleans with a song in his step and his head held high, knowing secret, magical things that no one else does.

    9. <Here's my entry of Vindoll Udell as an art student in college as well as a part time art model.>

The idea came from when I was in college and started taking life drawing classes, and we had different models posing either in nude or in costume. I imagined if Udell was an art student he would enjoy drawing the female figure I assume, and you can see his sketches around his surrounding. You can also see his signature in his drawings as well. Of course in this image he is at home relaxing in his room, browsing thru his contacts on his old flip phone. Udell is an old school, and his tattoos match his love for art.

Udell would have aquamarine eyes, to stand out on his tan skin, he would have a light face up and his body will be designed with tattoos and light blush to make Udell come more together. I would really like to have him as an art mannequin to pose him in this here pose ^_^

I would really love to add the company name as his last name being Granado on his neck, that would be a plus and a challenge.

    10. I sketched my idea of Vindoll Charles.

He is a professor of psychology at the local university, but not very well liked by some of his co-workers, due to his unprofessional appearance and attitude. He is often seen in sloppy suits that don't quite fit right, mismatched socks, wrinkled shirts (sometimes with coffee stains on them), his wild curly hair messy and uncombed. At a glance, he seems to not care about his career, though on a deeper level, he couldn't care more. He is interested in the minds of those around him, observing how they interact with each other, what they think, their dreams and goals. He takes time out of his day to work one-on-one with students needing extra help, whether it's in the classroom or with advice in their personal lives. He strives to be a role model, that big brother figure there to help guide people to a good path in life, and his knowledge of psychology helps him understand the best ways to connect with individuals. He is very admired by his students, regardless of the opinions of other professionals.

    11. Here is my winter wolf Vindoll Udell! Because he's such a manly man, I wanted to contrast his appearance with a feminine touch. I had a bit of a conundrum because I thought he'd look really good with dark bronze skin as well, but ended up opting for this rosy pallor. He is a werewolf living in the tundra. He is the prince of the Blue Crystal Brotherhood, but doesn't fancy his lot in life. He's a bit of a dandy, and prefers reading and fashion to ruling. Hope you enjoy him :)

    12. My concept art entry for Vindoll Charles:

As soon as I saw these handsome dolls I immediately thought of a fantasy setting. A hunter/warrior stalking through a dark, scary, and dangerous forest. His outfit is made for his trait. Lots of layers of metal and leather that have a practical feel lived in feel. He carries a large, but simple sword, again for practical use. He is heavily muscled which allows for a sword of such size and weight. His hair is long ish and uneven, likely he cuts it himself. So overall, he's a solitary warrior wandering the wilds, but with such skills he's hardly in danger and always carries himself with confidence.

    13. Concept for Vindoll Udell - I figure I would want him to fit in with my dolls, so I went the Urban Fantasy route.

      Lee Reed, vampire hunter
It’s on television, it’s on the internet, you can’t step outside your house without running into people sharing pictures and talking about it. Magic; it’s real and it’s everywhere and everyone is a believer. Special Agent Elias “Lee” Reed of the FBI. He’s determined to pretend there is just no such thing as magic. Until his investigation into a brutal double murder leads him to what he believes to be an underground cult, and he finds himself surrounded by vampires. After barely escaping with his life, Agent Reed has a change of heart where the supernatural is concerned. He joins the newly-created branch of the Federal Bureau of Investigation devoted to magic-related crimes, and begins training to hunt down the monsters that nearly killed him, as a vampire hunter!

    14. My concept and entry are for Vindoll Udell:

A nimble ninja spy from a rouge and violent vampire clan whose members are from origins mostly unknown. He is the right hand of the current leader, but mostly obeys no one, getting him into severe punishments more often than not; his sadomasochistic nature partially seeks punishment, although he rather do the punishing himself. He is currently called "Crow," but he has never had a real name. When he was a child he was sold around as a stool, mostly for training other small groups of rouge vampires, that wanted to break free from the strict rules of the higher ruling clans. Crow having no alliances with neither side, chose to do what he could to survive without having to stick to a single master for long. He is currently over a hundred years old, with no family or attachments. His current goal is to become stronger, and planning on overtaking the current leader, as he doesn't agree with the leader's views anymore.

    15. Presenting my concept art for Vindoll Udell. In this digital enhancement of a photo of my own Vindoll, we see Udell as a Wizard of Divination.

His gift is to see the present with his left eye and the possible future with his right. He sees the people he meets with a scrim of the future overlaying their being in the moment.
His heart was broken when he saw his beloved daughter's life overlaid by sudden death. Unable to forgive himself for his inability to change her fate, he left his wife and his home to wander.
He began to cover his right eye with a patch. However, the patch simply became a blank screen upon which his eye, though covered, still saw the future!
Seeking to avoid human interaction, he became reclusive and finally went to live on a difficult to reach mountain where his gift was less invasive. But the human mind is curious, and his heart would not allow him to forget his wife no matter how he tried. He is drawn to return to his soulmate if only he can face the fears of what he'll see.

    16. I liked the contast of the picture and how dark and mysterious Udell's face is, so I immediately thought of him as a dark prince or sorceror, which then led me to come up with the idea of a necromancer. Here's my concept sketch of him:

    17. My concept art of Vindoll Charles:

Mr. Nancy - Anansi (The Spider)
(Traditional artwork, using pencils and ink as medium)

      Work in progress:

" His hair is a splotch of black ink on paper, his skin a molten bronze like the rings on his fingers, and his eyes are as dark as napalm skies. She looked at him, and he looked at her. Then there it was again; the feeling she had earlier. A sinking feeling that crawled under her skin, and settled deep inside her, cold as stone. There is something off about him, she is sure of it. But what it is exactly, she could not say. Maybe it is the way he smiled, how one corner of his mouth tended to angle up higher than the other, in a crooked sort of way. Maybe it is the buttons on his coat, how they were oddly shaped like spiders, so detailed and lifelike that she thought she saw one spindly leg move from the corner of her eye. Or maybe it is the way how he looked at her, and how he didn't. How even when his back was turned, she swore that she can still feel him watching. Because when she looked at the back of his head, it oddly felt as if she was staring into a hundred eyes, golden eyes, that stared straight back at her. "

I based Vindoll Charles as Anansi, the Spider (Trickster) from West African mythologies. I depicted him in his human form, taking the name of Mr. Nancy. He is a con man who enjoys making elaborate cons to increase his wealth and build a name for himself.

    18. Alright, I am not very good at backstories, but I'll do my best:
Udell was a good man, he cared about his beloved ones, worked hard, had a lovely family... But one day the war destroyed his town. He had lost everything. At first he was tremendously sad, but slowly he changed that feeling to anger, then anger led to rage, and when a man is really really REALLY pissed off, a devil is always observing. And what happens when a devil is very bored and need some action? They convince mortals to make "juicy deals" with them. And what happend to Udell? Exactly. He's invincible now. Cursed to death, but invincible.

    19. I see my character - gragon Rezart - in Charles. He is a character of my book.
Do you believe in miracles? In witchcraft, forest fairies and dragons? If yes then you will like it.
Several years ago I wrote the book about the dark dragon-loner, who managed not only to meet his Princess, but also not to eat her at their first acquaintance.
And the Princess suddenly fell in love not with a handsome Prince, but with a real predatory dragon: irascible, formidable and dangerous.
Rozart can reicarnate in a human. When he turns in a man, his eyes shine with molten gold.
I dreamt so long to create the image of this hero, but could not find appropriate doll.
And now when I see Charles I dream how wonderful Rozart could he be.
I appreciate handsome profile in a man's face, and Charles is a wonderful sample of man's attractiveness, exactly like Rezart.
His eyes are golden-yellow, like Rezart's, and his cheekbones are in the same way embossed.
Charles is so different: he can be strict, even severe, but when you look at him from other angle, there is a smile on his lips.
I see Charles in an image of his hero - dragon Rezart.
I want to make his hair white, like a snow on mountaintops, and his eyes - shining with molten gold. He will wear black leather armour, like a sign of his clan.
He is prideful and strong, but his heart belongs forever to the human's Princess.
Thank you for the possibility to see my dragon in the doll Charles!

    22. Since I joined the hobby I've been looking for a beefy man to embody my character Rodney and Udell in my mind is perfect for him with his chiseled jawline and jaw dropping features. I mean, those cheekbones are to die for!

Rodney Castillas is a man on the run, stuck in Fallout's post-apocalyptic wasteland. Created in the commonwealth's very own Institute as a synth.
He spent his whole life coming to terms with who he was, what he was, and is still running away from the demons of his past and the dreaded Institute trying to drag him back. He traded his Institute uniform for a worn leather jacket and faded jeans, as well as a mild alcohol addiction and a smoking "problem".
He's charismatic, rude, and a massive flirt with a pretty face to match. He's hot and he knows it.
Underneath the boisterous exterior, he tries desperately to be a good man in a lawless land. He's tempted by many things and still has his vices, but tries his best to be a better man than he was in the past. He lives on and remembers the death of his lover at the hands of the Institute, even going so far as to take the last name of his lover's murderer as a reminder.
Rodney is about 36 years old and is my character in Fallout 4, who I've grown very attached to over the years.
His customization would mostly consist of scar mods on his face and all over his body, as well as his 50s inspired fashion from the wasteland and his signature facial hair.
I would love to be considered for an Udell and thank you so much for this amazing opportunity!

Here is my character design for the Vindoll Charles.
If I were to have this doll, I would turn him into an ancient Filipino warrior named Arawan, or which loosely translates to English as Sunshine.

The rays on his head and his jewelry are based on the sun from the Philippine flag. He wears this as a badge of pride to show everyone that he is the best of the best and has won the favor of Gods.

His tattoos are loosely based on the tattoos of the Pintados, noble indigenous warriors living in the Visayas region during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines. I've chosen to make them brown instead of black, as it would look less harsh on his body.

His attire consists of a traditional hand-woven loincloth called a bahag. Personally, I have chosen not to cover him up in his warrior form as the bodies of Vindolls are too beautiful not to flaunt. In the story, when he is sent to the future to find the missing Diwata (or fairy, which is one of my existing dolls) to stop the Holy War and is forced to wear modern clothing to blend in, he'll take every opportunity to go topless.

Aside from his tattoos, he has an array of gold jewelry meant intimidate his opponents. After all, he is beautiful as he is deadly. This is also to show that Arawan is not afraid to show his effeminate side, he will gladly use his charm to his advantage.

The overall design is simple but holds a lot of meaning to me as a Filipino. :sumomo:

    24. [IMG]Granado Udell by the_patchwork_princess Christy, on Flickr

Cal, Short for Calder, was a pretty average man...2500 years ago until he met Bridgette, a faye and goddess. He agreed to become her companion with out a lot of questions, but it turns out eternity with a fiery Celtic Goddess isn't all its cracked up to be, now (1992 in my story) he drinks to much, smokes to much, and basically only gets out to open the pub they own together. Until one of his regulars a revanent named Lucy whom after completing her revenge doesn't really have a lot to do either brings in a boy that seems a bit to familiar, Could Jacob be his relative?why would he be hanging around with a dead girl? and can he keep him safe long enough to find out?

Calder, is a character i've had trouble shelling, I've been through 3 different sculpts and nothing seemed to fit, maybe he was waiting for Udell? Jacob, his great great great (...well you get the idea) nephew is already shelled as a Granado Pancho! and i know Bridgette would be happy to have her man back! She is a Impldoll Sophia on a Nobilitydoll muscle body and i feel that Udell would compliment her strength without over shadowing her (something she is really not a fan of) it would also be nice to have the bartender back in my little doll world!

(Sorry it's a photo,I don't have a scanner atm , also my fineliner crapped out on me ,so the smoke is not lined on the right side)

With den of angels and Granado in my mind,my concept is that of a fallen angel.

I imagine Udell to be the prettiest of all angels, but his vanity was his downfall. His hunger for more and more beauty causes him to seek out the demons. Once the archangel found out ,he was cast from the heavens to serve the ruler of hell. With this concept art I wanted to capture the moment the darkness is taking over his body, trying to snuff out the holy light in his eyes and replace it for something far more horrible.

Styling wise I would give him a loincloth of fine material, so it would flow very angelic (and it's just a shame to cover up that beautiful body), to hold the loincloth in place I would make him a nice armored belt. His hair, brows and eyes are white ,his skin is bronze . I would ventilate the wig for him myself so he has a nice natural hairline. I also would mod his nails ,so he has nice sharp claws

    28. Hello ladies and gentlemen,

      my name is Mr. Chocolate.
Don’t I look like a tasty piece of art?

Bite me, if you dare ;)

[IMG]CCI28082018 Mr Chocolate by Britt M, on Flickr

My art is based on VINDOLL Udell. At first, I was not going to enter, because art isn’t my thing. But I really wanted to take my chance on this one. Because I would love to own a vinyl doll, and I was immediately inspired by Udell. I knew directly what I wanted to do with him. He is such a hunk. I don’t know if it’s because my Belgian brain is brainwashed, but he screamed “CHOCOLATE” to me. And our Belgian doll community is named Chocolate Dolly after all. So it is a nice reference to them too.

I decided to top him in some raspberry, mint and chocolate sauce. I know, minty chocolate is an English thing, but who can resist it? And of course I decorated him like any Belgian chocolatier would. With white chocolate swirls and golden sugar dust. A dark chocolate colored wig with raspberry and minty touches, and beautiful golden eyes to top it off. Wouldn’t he make an amazing mascot for our Chocolate Dolly team?

To be honest, I think I could create a chocolate doll out of Charles too. White chocolate piece of deliciousness. Rauwwrrrr!!!

    29. (Welp - well here's my attempt, please don't laugh too much it's been more than a decade since I put brush to paper and I seem to have lost whatever knack for it I might once have had!)

"She strolled into my office stinking of gin, and cigarettes. Just like my city I knew this woman was trouble, with a great big stinking heart to go with her foul roll-ups, matching whatever fetid problem she was about to dump on my desk. Me? I'm Detective James Bird, Jim to my friends, and I can count the number of people that call me Jim to my face on one hand and still have fingers to spare..."

The inspiration photos on the first page for this guy immediately had him pegged as a film-noir-esque cop, albeit with the usual twist the setting most of my group resides in brings with it.

Half-Hopi, half-Irish. A detective who used to be hot stuff, twenty years ago. He still strolls around his department with that hot-stuff swagger, not yet recognising that his reputation has morphed into the department joke, the partner the boss gives to the officers she's deeply unhappy with.

James Bird, too white for the uncle who took him in when he was a snot-nosed kid, back in the day on the reservation. Too Native for the posh white-folk that he now has to try and police in the big city. And that isn't even accounting for the fact that his white-Irish mother, wasn't entirely human, so never one to do things by halves - James is too human for the fae, and too fae for the humans too.

That mixed heritage of his really doesn't help when police-work these days consists of policing the dealings of the Sidhe and the Fae as well as Shadow Men, and the likes of Coyote and Jackal all whilst trying to make sure that the latest shipment of Melange to be pilfered from Psi Corp doesn't hit the streets. James tends to... See things the other officers miss, have flashes of unexplainable intuition. Intuition that let's him rescue the girl, but then screws up the case when it comes to court.

James Bird is an unpopular cop, on an unpopular police force, in a world where corrupt corporations vies side by side with fairies, elves, and demons, to screw over the little guy.

    30. Artist Note: For my concept I wanted to embody something that was strongly masculine but still possessed beauty and grace, my design is based off the Udell sculpt in tan.

Udell, is a prince of a tribe, he relies more on his swiftness and cunning, rather than brute strength to fight and hunt. He possesses unnaturally sharp vision in the dark, a gift from the spirits. The armor drawn is his ceremonial ensemble for his coming of age ceremony.

He wears an owl skull on as a crown, it is his tribe custom for all those coming of age to wear the bones of their first kill. His first proving hunt was where he shot a flying eagle owl in the pitch darkness of night. His outfit is also decorated with owl feathers, the markings around his eyes symbolize his eagle vision and were given to him by his grandmother, a priestess.

Okay uh well hope you guys like it >.<

My interpretation of Udell, as a character in my Chaining the Immortal story verse. I hope you will enjoy it~
      — Zakariya "Zak" Al-Rashid, a young man of African and Arabic descent, ex-military. Presently employed as a clerk in the Hall of Records, a sanctuary dedicated to preserving mankind's history and achievements (heavily tailored, unbeknownst to the general public, by the current regime). After losing both legs in battle, followed by outrage and convalescence, Zak pushed himself to adapt, making use of prosthetics and pursuing a fresh career as a bookkeeper. This reality was a far cry from the path he had originally planned, but he made the most of what life threw his way.

While he takes his new job quite seriously, Zak is an incorrigible flirt and still playful at heart, often conversing with visitors as they peruse the shelves in the Hall. His latest "person of interest" is a solemn young nurse with aspirations of becoming a combat medic, which appealed to Zak's history and led to a sense of camaraderie between the two, despite their differing personalities. Most of his day is probably spent waiting excitedly for Josephe to show up after she's finished her work.

    32. Vidar is from the house of Wadsworth, one of the noble houses in Kingdom of Seranious. Gifted with powerful magical powers, Vidar joined the military to be trained as Aethr, the elite, offensive warriors specializing with magic. Wanting to be recognized for his powers and skills instead of his family background, Vidar pretends to be an orphan and took the name "Udell".
"Udell" eventually graduate top in his class and immediately signed to one of the toughest missions to stop the Daemons (monsters infused with corrupted magic) from trying to invade Seranious.
During his multiple missions "Udell" will eventually discover the truth behind the Daemons, Seranious court internal conflict, his family's devious plans, and finally how the name "Udell" keeps coming up in his dreams.

[DESIGN] While I'm not really into Final Fantasy, but my god I really love the characters' designs. While some of their designs are impractical, but they're elaborate and beautiful. But for my design I try my best to make it elaborate, but practical. Another designs I incoperate here is from Granado Espada and Lineage 2 (all mmorpgs).

    35. This is my concept based on Vindoll Udell; this sculpt is perfect for me to shell an original character-- but for this challenge, I'm going for a zombie apocalyse AU/ timeline.
      ---
      Character Summary:
Udell; doctor, second-in-command- Northbound survivor group.

Udell hasn't been a doctor for long and newly engaged, before a mysterious virus spreads, turning people into zombies. He was forced to flee without his fiancée, as he couldn't locate her and his own life is in danger. He travels with a small group of survivors-- because of his calm, but yet assertive nature, sharp instinct and knowledge in medicine, he becomes one of the commanding voices in the group. He still holds hope that he will find his fiancée some day-- but for the time being, keeping everyone alive is his main priority. While the survivor group feels like a second family to Udell, he tries to maintain distance, as he harbours some knowledge... a potentially dark secret regarding the virus outbreak... which may cause further chaos, and discord among the remaining survivors should it be revealed.
      ---
      Design Notes:
Light and practical clothes for travelling; a handgun, just in case, and several tool bags containing necessities, mostly medical supplies.

In this concept, Udell is the loyal bodyguard of a princess forced into hiding after a coup against the royal family. They now pose as elder brother and younger sister running an inconspicuous general-goods shop in a small town on the edge of the empire. Though their clothes are simple and well-worn, there is a certain regalness in their bearing which might give a keen observer pause; the princess is slightly too poised and eloquent for a simple country girl, and Udell's disheveled shirt seems at odds with his disciplined posture and the intense focus of his gaze.

    37. Concept art for a dark-skinned Granado Vindoll Udell

My character concept is set in the present in the real world.

Udell is a strong and fit guy because he does a lot of hard physical work. He is a mechanic and artisan who repairs and customizes motorbikes and cars. He also creates huge sculptures from recycled metal and rusty pipes.

His skin is dark, but his ethnic background is not obvious from his features. He has mixed African roots, and he is aware and proud of them.
He has a good sense of fashion. His style is casual, but somewhat elegant (when he's not at work): He likes fabric with noticable patterns in muted colors, and jewelry made from bones and wood. His look also relates to his African background.
In his workshop he wears practical clothes that can take a little dirt and still look good. (His customers usually visit him at work.)

In his art he likes to display his undefined tribal background with installations that include himself.

As a contrast to his somewhat sombre appearance, he owns a funny little dog.

    38. Firstly, I would like to thank Granado and Den of angels’ staff for this wonderful contest. Granado dolls are a masterpiece and it is so obvious how lovingly these dolls are sculpted. It would be a great honor and joy to own one of these dolls.:aheartbea

What would suit this handsome dolls the most? What details would highlight their facial features in the best way? What clothes would bring out the well-defined musculature? If I did get the chance to own this doll, what challenges should I make myself go through to finish this project? What new skills I could and should learn? How can I make this character stand out and be unique? I was asking these questions myself while drafting ideas for this concept art.

Strong facial features, muscular, stocky build are ideal for fearless warrior character. Such a person has went through a lot in their life; their body was honed in many battles and harsh living conditions.

Disclaimer: I have drawn the concept art specifically for this contest. I have used pastels, watercolors, pencils and gel pen, some minor editing in paint.net. I apologize for my rusty English.

      Fang the tiger demon

[IMG]udell concept by Swampruler, on Flickr

      Link to draft

      granado udell concept art

      Name: Fang

      Age: over 1000 years

      Species: demon tiger

Occupation: one of the seven generals of the demon army in sacred valley of the World Tree

      Character:

Fang is passionate, daring, fearless, lively and dynamic. Tiger general like it when things are done efficiently and the way he planned. Fang can change from being fiery and fearless to calm in a blink of an eye. As genius bruiser his actions are unpredictable. Both friends and enemies revere Fang for his courage and fast wit.

On another hand, Fang can be possessive and jealous. He is a sour loser. Tiger general is quite vengeful, too, he never forgives those who wronged him.

Abilities: Superhuman strength, superhuman senses, superhuman agility, expert martial artist.

Fang is fifth in strength out of all beings in sacred valley of the World tree.

Weapons: Battle-axe, spear, knives. Prefers to use raw strength of his hands, though.

      Magical artifacts:

Fang is covered from head to toe in magical artifacts. Pelt on his shoulders belonged to his dead mother.

Armor made from scales of a dragon.
Clothes made from undine hair. Shoes made from skin of salamander.
Magical key medallion opens gates of the barrier, which protects the sacred valley of the World tree.
      And a lot more…

      Styling the doll:

      Eyes and body marking
Fang would not have any demon body parts in his human shape, except marking on his body. Tiger’s skin has the same stripes as does their pelt. As such, Fang would have stripes all over his body.

      Detail close-ups:

      Eyes

[IMG]eye makeup by Swampruler, on Flickr

Eyebrows. Different variations of eyebrows possible:

      [IMG]eyebrows by Swampruler, on Flickr

Eyebrows shape was inspired by the eyebrows like stripes, which tigers have.

      Wig
I would make a black and burgundy colored, soft ventilated wig. Such wigs are easy to style. Fang likes to style his hair. He is especially fond of braids and beads.

      [IMG]wig by Swampruler, on Flickr

I would make armor and shoes and accessories from epoxy putty and faux leather. I would sew Hanfu out of linen, cotton and silk.

      Thank You for your attention.

    39. Quick note: Please ignore the fact that his ear is huge and far too high up on his head  I've not drawn a human in forever and anatomy is not my strong point.

Concept: The incredibly popular metal band Of Gods and Monsters has confirmed today that they are welcoming a new member into their fold - Udell - a musician as talented as he is notorious for his antics both on and off the stage, and who has been kicked out of three bands to date, for various reasons. A spokesperson for Of Gods and Monsters has said that the band believes that he is the best fit for their vacancy and look forward to working with him in the future, regardless of his previous misdemeanors.

Rumours have been swirling for months now about this new addition to the band leading some fans to speculate that he could be the "monster" that brings the band undone, after what has already been a tumultuous year for them so far. In-fighting, arrests, and mystery illnesses have plagued them since the launch of their fourth album back in February of this year, so much so that they cancelled their world tour and in the case of certain members, have not even been seen since then.

Udell himself has said in a brief interview this morning that he "Can't wait" to start working with this legendary band, whom he has confessed to being a fan of for several years now. He also expressed concern for band members Atlas and Farrokh who have not been heard from or seen for some time...

    40. Granado Udell Design:
      "Vinegar" Thomas Clark

Thomas is the stoic bodyguard of a somewhat spoiled and entirely too wealthy aristocrat. He is a strong, capable bodyguard, but his main powers lie in pyrokenisis; the psychic ability to create and control fire with his mind. He shows great restraint, but takes his duties very seriously.

The strong, attractive face and muscular, expertly-sculpted body of Udell suits the character of Thomas.

    41. Here is my concept art for Vindoll Udell, based on my own universe (heroic-fantasy/tribal) .
I apologize in advance for possible language errors. I did my best, but I'm not very good in english. :s

      Name: Deluun

      Age: ~30 years

People: Skavok. These are the nomads of the continent of Shutara. NB: In parallel with the real world, I was inspired by "Scythians" to create this people.

      Clan: Tsagaan

Family: Unknown. Like a majority of shamans, he is a "child of the people", that is to say that no one really knows his parents, these latter having anonymously offered their child to the clan, so that he joins the spiritual circle of the latter.

Occupation: Shaman of the "deadtalker "branch. Deluun was from a very early age promised a great future as a deadtalker, a branch of skavok shamanism centered on the worship of the ancestor and on communication with defuncts. In fact, at the age of seven, just before the summoning of his totemic animals, an owl came to rest one evening near him, holding a stone pierced in his beak. She placed it gently on the ground and stared into little Deluun's gaze before turning back to the night sky. Stunned by the grace and the mysterious aura of the animal, the young boy remained frozen, and it was Kaja, the dean of the shamans of the clan who came to release him from his torpor, and showed him the pierced stone. "Boy, is proof that the Great Owl's spirit has chosen you. Embrace your destiny and pick up this stone. When you will be an accomplished shaman, your connection with the afterlife will be among the most powerful of your generation. After the totemic summoning ceremony, you will become my disciple."

Totems: Owl, Frog, Woolly Yack and Blue Whale. For Skavoks, totem animals are of great importance. They are at the same time symbols, guides and/or presages. Each Skavok receives his first totem.s at seven, then every seven years until adulthood (21 years). On average a Skavok has three totems in total, but this can vary from 1 to 5 in general.

Character: Deluun is a calm and reserved man, living a little on the sidelines of his clan, although his role as a deadtalker shaman would like him to take a little more part in the political life of his clan, as "ancients’s voice".
Endowed with pacifist ideology, he is regularly in conflict with the leaders of his clan, who are more inclined towards war and the conquest of new lands.
He would like his clan to be known and respected above all for his erudition, rather than for the quality of his fighters.
Excellent pedagogue, he likes to transmit his knowledge, and is therefore very popular with younger generations, who enjoy listening to both his stories and his discoveries in medicine. He also shares a lot of knowledge with other Skavok clans.

Clothes: An outfit with traditional elements: lots of leather, skins, reindeer fur, horsehair rope and yak wool. The bones are reserved for the spirituals peoples, chiefs, craftsmen and important warriors of the clan.
The stick and the celestial halo (blue circle with clouds behind the character's head) are reserved for shamans, or some "elected" at a specific ceremony.
Pauldrons in larch branches are reserved for the deadtalker. Clan’s members address their prayers to ancestors by hanging small messages to these branches. Each new moon, the shaman makes a ceremony to which the clan members can participate, where he burns the messages after having translated them through chants in the language of the spirits so that the prayers are heard.

My idea for this character actually came from a song, since writing is not my trade. Based on Udell, I came Up with Neil, WWI veteran who decides to take a less-than-charitable path as a robber, after returning from the war. From his days on the front lines, he learned to infiltrate his targets social circles, learning their secrets and taking advantage of this knowledge to attack them on their most vulnerable, leaving no witnesses who might recognize him later on.

    44. I chose the beautiful vindoll Udell for my Character. I have always loved traditional art so I chose to do a grey scale acrylic painting. I have always struggled with writing that's why I draw and paint. I will do my best : )

Nolan has found himself unaccomplished in life, or has he? Jumping from job to job, not the nice type but always finding his way under a dirty truck or shoveling gravel for hours in the hot sun. Life is to short to do the same repetitive motions over and over again. Nolan would rather drop his job and throw his shoes off just to take a dip in a cold lake. The moss felt cold and wet on his bare feet and the rain sent shivers down his spine, but what is life without enjoying the simple things. At age 35 Nolan doesn't see the point of sitting in a cold uninviting office all day, a large house, nice car just aren't that worth it.

    46. My entry for Vindoll Udell:

I saw something elegant yet fierce in Udell, taking me in two directions: ancient gods, and princes. I went for something of a Jafar meets Prince Zuko vibe, a learned magician with a temper to shake the earth.

The story goes that Udell's father died of disease, making the young prince take his seat on the throne far too early in his life, with much too little experience behind him. Refusing to listen to most of his advisors, safe for one, he was taught the ways of the old gods. Studying magic long forbidden became an obsession, and with it the acquisition of more power and knowledge. Unruly as he may be, Udell is now a master magician with his eyes set on prices that have no chance of filling the void in his heart.

    47. For my concept I choose Charles in tan skin.

The ideia is of a guardian similar to a demi God, but instead of being child of a God he is child of mother nature. He is supposed to look the more normal as possible, except for one of his eyes that is blind to what human sees because it sees beyond it (whatever in another time - past or future, or other dimension). He hides that eye with a bang. He also has the ability to change into a wolf form and thats how he interacts with animals without scaring them. He doesnt need any tools or weapons because he can bend nature with only the power of his will. His mission is to protect nature from humanity.

The reason I choose Charles for this is because his face structure seems like something that would morph easily into a wolf, specially his nose and piercing-yet-soft eyes.

    49. Vindoll Charles.

Beneath the left side of his collarbone (cut off slightly by his shirt) are tattooed the Roman Numerals for September 2018, his projected shipping month, as well as Granado. Tattooed to his left hand is his brother's name, Udell.

When I initially saw the contest, I loved Udell's dark skin, and thought I'd be drawing him. After studying both sculpts in detail, I came to find I really loved Charles' sculpt more, but still wanted to pay some tribute to Udell and his gorgeousness, hence the hand tattoo.

      Inspired Backstory
After witnessing the death of his brother, Udell, to vampires, Charles swears vengeance upon the evil of the world, his brother's name tattooed on his hand, the date of his death on his collarbone, as a constant reminder of vengence. Once a simple thought, an easy "kill all the monsters," Charles comes to find that not all vampires are evil, some of them perhaps even lovable, and that there are far darker demons than he could ever imagine in some humans. As he comes to face his own morality and seeks to bring all evildoers to justice- cryptid, human, and inhuman- he somehow manages to attract several faeries that hang around him, crashing at his apartment, drinking all his unsecured wine, but also polishing his stakes (and, uh, throwing out the splintered ones, which usually are the ones he was just getting attached to.) After a hard day of exercising justice upon the evils of the world, Charles likes to unbutton, relax, and drink a glass of whatever remaining wine he's got.

He wears a corded necklace with a silver cross to help defend himself against vampires and has several scars across his torso from past battles. His hair is cropped short on the left, with two bare lines in it, and the top is swept over to the right side of his face. He may look like he's ready to bring a stake to a gunfight, but he has a gun hidden on his back. Stakes are great for vampires, but not everything else that goes bump in the night.

Done with simple HB lead pencil and paper.
