The Mini Centaur Thread

Hi guys! I'm really new here, I only just got into the BJD community, and need a little advice. I'm in the market for a fullset Klaus Minifee centaur, but I'm not really sure where to search for him...he seems to be completely sold out on the Fairyland website and all the other listings for him are on Aliexpress and look sketchy. Any advice as to where I could find him or if he's ever going to come back in stock?

Once you get rights to the DoA marketplace, maybe try posting a "looking to buy" for him? Depending on where you live there might be an active doll community on Facebook or something too.
I don't know if fairyland usually re-releases fullsets?

Anyway, loving all the unique little centaurs here! I haven't any myself but maybe one day when I have more space.. .

Aww ok, that’s sad to hear. Guess he’s gonna be my grail doll then lol. Thanks for the advice on the marketplaces though! I’ll definitely do that once I’m actually allowed on the marketplace.

 

Aliexpress is a hotbed for recasts, so definitely a good call to avoid those listings. The buying/selling groups on Facebook are pretty active and a quick search reveals that someone sold a Klaus centaur earlier this year. I’d put out a WTB (want to buy)/ISO (in search of) post there while you work your way to DOA marketplace access. Not sure I can mention the groups by name here, so feel free to PM and I can point you in the right direction!

Oh my gosh! I had no idea this thread existed! I am so happy! I have a weakness for centaurs, fauns, satyr type dolls! I just posted in introductions a few minutes ago. I think I found my home away from home!

 

Wow! In reading through this thread, I am loving all the characters and customizations I'm seeing! Since I'm new to the BJD hobby, it didn't cross my mind to try modifying parts from different companies to work together. That's neat and inspiring to look at. Still, I think I'm going to stay on the lookout for Luts centaurs first while I look around. There's something about the way they sculpt the fringe at the bottom of the legs that intrigues me.

Does anyone know if Luts has ever done rereleases of their story dolls? I'm guessing not since they released the characters in Honey Delf size instead of Kid Delf size recently.

 

I have a question. Do cattaurs and wolftaurs fall under this category or do they have their own thread?

 

I'm pretty sure they all belong here. :3 I've definitely posted about my cattaur, so I say, bring on the critters.

 

Unfortunately they've not rereleased any of the full sets or anything but they certainly do release limited dolls of their KDF centaur bodies every couple of years. So hopefully they'll have a release some time where you can grab one! c:
I only have experience with LUTS, SOOM, and Sio2 centaurs and the Luts KDF centaur body holds poses the best and stands solidly, in my opinion. There's a LOT more to choose from now that I haven't bothered with though so. There's probably plenty of other great sculpts with food posing!

I THINK luts has done a rerelease of Yul. As a human at least. I believe there have been other cases where you could get her sculpt on some other set.
So if nothing else, you can always look for a centaur body secondhand and try to buy a head that matches what you're looking for.

 

This is more or less what I'm looking for. While Jamong Pegasus from 2014 is my grail doll, I definitely want some blanks of that sculpt in other different resin colors if possible!

I prefer the scale of the MDF centaur but we'll see. Maybe one day I'll be able to see the market. Or luts will unintentionally grant my wish for blank centaur bodies! They certainly did with the recent Fairy Forest Fauns!

 

Oh man as far as I'm aware they've only done the one release of the MDF centaurs but boy do I hope they'll do another run with them because I want one too!

 

I wonder if there's a thread or a poll we can do and see if we can show them we want the sculpt back. Even if its a totally different back story. Or an updated one of that size would be nice if they no longer have the old molds. I just really like the proportions and joints of their centaur body so much!

Ahhh, finally got around to dying gypsy horse/ vanner markings on my Luts honey centaur body. I was a bit nervous about doing it but very happy with the results as I think it gives a lot more character to the body

(Edit- oops, meant to post this in the 'tiny centaur' thread. My brain likes to confuse the terms mini and tiny sometimes )

So, has anyone seen the new Dream Valley Nightmare Constantine? Frigging gorgeous!

I really like that one too! He looks like a reaper from hell in terms of his vibe! That's something I don't see often in terms of doll motifs, but then again.... I don't know many doll enthusiasts with gothic tastes apart from myself.

 

So what brands besides Resinsoul and Dream Valley are actively selling centaur dolls at the moment? I see Luts brought back some hoofed models, but they're all two-legged satyrs, I see. I'd like to see more availability for taurs and it's frustrating to go 'that looks great! ...and is from five years ago.'

 

My grail is Jamong Pegasus 2014. Still looking for her, sadly...

 

@Cryptid Impldoll has a centaur body always avaible. basic male and female are Trista and Sam, but if you ask you can get pretty much any head from their 46 lineup.

Generally speaking with the exception of Impldoll and Resinsoul centaurs tend always to be limited ones.
Best to keep your eyes on the currently 'usual' suspects - Doll Chateau, Luts, Dream Valley, Soom - and have some savings on the side. They tend to be released most often during Summer and Winter events.

Dream Valley is a real wildcard here, you can never know what they hit you with next and seem to release fantastic creatures every few months.

Best of luck.

(DoA and Facebook also often unearth these 4-hooved treasures, but you need to check regularly)

 

Any other Dawns in here?

After lurking for years, I thought it was time to finally jump in. I finally got my girl somewhat together. After a respirator mishap, she was stuck disassembled in her bag for a year while I worked up the courage to deal with her. I finally did her faceup recently (again) and I’m wondering what I just unleashed. So far she’s repaid me by pilfering someone else’s wig, bucking all my original plans, and refusing any name I try to throw at her. Miss centaur was formerly known as Solar (due to a previous sun theme) but that doesn’t feel like a good fit any more. Don’t let the sweet pastel exterior fool you. She’s an unrepentant little rascal.

 

@Azure Agape She's so cute! I love her wig, it suits her very well. And nice job on the faceup!

He's a KDF45 centaur from Luts' summer event. His head is the Yul satyresse.

I got lucky with the marketplace and scored myself a Luts Yul centaur! Been working on doing some edits to him to match what I want. Current addition: Pearl-ex. Lots and lots of Pearl-ex.

I just found and bought one of my grail dolls, a Fairyland FairyLine Centaur body and a pair of wings, along with the wing connector and a unicorn horn! Of course, as you can tell by the pics, he is a WIP. I'd love to get a tan human body for him and make him into a black unicorn, but after getting just his horsey parts, I'm pretty broke.

I'm finding out that this pattern is called "Overo," and my partner, who used to ride, is helping me learn about horse patterns. Its quite interesting.

@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 Congrats on your find! He'll be really impressive when you're finished with him. At least you got the hard part out of the way for him? Sewing, face up detailing, blushing-it all pales in comparison to the hurdle of getting the dang animal half.

Thank you! I hope he'll turn out great. Sewing I can do, but faceupping and blushing him will be done by someone else.

I lucked out and found that DDE had a few centaur bodies in stock.

I think that he looks great with the overo pattern. He's not going to have much white on him, since his wings are white, but I'm thinking he'll also have some black possibly dyed onto the wings as well. I'm not sure if overo is a kind of pinto, but I was thinking pinto when I got the wings in a different resin color than his body. He's going to be a fun one to create, that's for sure!

The hubby recommended something to accent the lovely crimson resin, not cover it up too much.

So, I'm debating runes on the hooves and maybe some celtic themes/tattoos.
Any ideas?

 

Prism got a new dye color on her lower half, so it was “take your centaur to work” day. I happen to work at a horse barn so she had plenty to do and none of it was helpful. Prism decided to lounge around on the trot poles for a while

Next up I need to finish the antlers of his new head and strip and redo the painting on his body. After restringing I'm no longer afraid of completely taking him apart (so long as I keep which leg goes on which side straight).

I'm waiting for a Fairand centaur girl body and I've been asking for comission for wig and horse tail.
The seller ask me how the tail is attached to the body.

Could anybody show me pictures of the tail attachement?

Did anyone make a fiber tail for a fairyline centaure ? Could you show me pictures, please?

 

I just put a Fairyland Centaur body with horse head and horn on layaway. I have not seen many of these and would love to see owner pics.

 

My nameless centaur girl got a new outfit and stole a wig today.

 

Mine arrived today and they are amazing. I love the sculpting. Mine will be staying in unicorn form with the horse head.
