Contest The It's So Basic Sock Extravaganza

You guys have inspired me to keep going! I have finished another piece and will do the last one tomorrow

 

I don't think I'm going to finish everything in time cuz I'm not really into sewing. But hopefully I can at least get the top and bottom done. I'm actually glad this contest came along; my doll had nothing to wear.

 

I'm so excited! I can't believe how much I was able to do with just one day. I totally thought I wasn't going to make the deadline. Now I just have to make one more thing and then I'm done!

 

I have been lurking these threads (All the themes sound so fun but RL won't allow me the time and energy to enter any of the contests this year) and I am so excited to see what everyone comes up with. Hoping that by enjoying the creativity that this community displays during the anniversary celebrations will help bring back my drive to work some more on my dolls when I do get the spare time since I've been in such a creative block lately.

As of right now at 1:05PM EDT (UTC -4.00), there are just under 35 hours left for entries. You are probably about 7 hours or so ahead of EDT, so that would put the contest ending just before 7AM on Saturday morning in your time.

Phew... I'm leaving tomorrow morning to go visit my sister and my newly born niece so I had to get my piece done for today.

I think my project took two steps forward and one step back... scrapping one of the pieces stinks ohh well, if it looks better this way then that's just how it is. One more thing I want to add and then picture time.

And even if you think your entry isn't very good, please submit it anyway! The first year I entered the sewing contest, I thought my pictures, materials and skills were all crap and that mine was one of the worst. There were so many tears and moments of wanting to give up...and...I came in fourth place. Just shy of winning a prize, but it still felt really good to rank much higher than I expected, especially since I thought competition was way better! Last year I didn't do nearly as well, but after the winners were announced, watching the thread comments and everyone complimenting ALL of the entries and picking out what they really loved was also really encouraging. You just never know what other people will like best, so it can't hurt to try. Best of luck to everyone, I'm so looking forward to all the interesting ideas!

 

This hobby has humbled me, where sewing is concerned ( and photography, and face ups and budgeting)! But I agree, it's not about winning. Being part of and taking part in the community is AWESOME!

 

As our time for entries draws to a close, the mod team would like to thank all the great contributors in this thread for encouraging each other! Is this a competition? Yes, but DoA is first and foremost a community, and it's wonderful to see members supporting one another.

I have a last minute question. I have some materials on the socks picture that I didn't use in the end to make my entry. Is it fine if I put some X on those on the picture? Or should I leave it as it is?

 

Oh man...I just saw this contest yesterday afternoon and have been sewing up a storm since! My outfit's almost done (somehow!) and hopefully I will get some pictures snapped of it and sneak it in before the deadline. Awesome contest! Thank you so much for hosting another great one!

 

I also thought the deadline was on Sunday, so I got pretty stressed when I yesterday found out it was tonight
But with some extra work I managed to send in my entry!
I'm really excited to see what everyone made It's a really fun contest so far, and reading the comments here really makes it feel like a community activity! It would be fun to get some votes as well, even if the chances of winning of winning are slim

 

You can put an X on it. Because there isn't a limit on the number of socks or a yardage limit in this contest, the pictures are a confirmation that yes, you did use socks for your material.

 

Whew! I feel like I cut it down to the wire, even though *technically* I still had a few hours. Setting up the photoshoot took longer than I though it would, but I got to play with my new DSLR for the first time! I've been in the hobby for almost eight years, and only just upgraded my old point-n-shoot last week!

If you're talking about the pictures, you can click your mouse where you want the image before you click the button to insert it and it'll go in that spot. Or you can drag and drop. I just figured it out myself

 

I can't believe it...I just finished my outfit! Talk about down to the wire--I just started last night! Can't wait to get home and take some pictures and post them. This was so much fun! I can't wait to see everyone else's entries!

I MADE IT!

I got up this morning, thought, "This is the last day, and I haven't even started " and then I thought, "Go ahead and try!" So I sewed all day and I just submitted my pictures. I hope they are the right size! (I used the 600 pixels on one side measurement, but there wasn't any information about dpi so they are 300dpi mostly). Please, ninja cockroaches, tell me if I need to fix anything!

I'm not competing for the prize, but I competed against myself to get it done, and I'm so pleased that I made it in time. Good luck, everyone! I can't wait to see all the entries!

Whew, barely made that in time. As it is, it's a piece of poo, but now I can say that I entered this years contests!

Hope it's accepted, I had no idea on dpi, and well, using an unfamiliar computer with left handed controls on the mouse, so I was pretty lost.

@Madison E. Grey I'm sure it'll be ok. It wasn't officially stated in the rules on the first page. And I think someone else had the same issue and the mods said they were fine.

Was inspired to make more sock stuff. Started a stupid sweater based on a mashup of a shirt and an SD sweater and I should have made a prototype out of regular fabric. It is not working. I regret being inspired XD
