Contest The Great Triathlon WINNERS POSTED!

Jun 24, 2010

    1. Er. . . I think that's mine. . . (this one?) :sweat I really wanted to make the spool table but I think I'd have needed a power tool to get the top edge round. The macrame hanging was the last of my wig material. After seeing all the fantastic entries I was surprised to get any votes. :aeyepop:

    2. Heh, love ya too WW...The set's getting recycled tomorrow...just no space...sniffle. I do have an idea for another one though!! My Yo/Littlefee want a treehouse. Gah~!

I forgot to add this to postcard form, but if (and I hope you do) have another event next year like this, could we do some sort of stop motion?? There's a lot of free programs out there that incorporate pictures from a camera to create stop motion movies! It'd be fun to try that!!

    3. Just some silly pictures. :)

Truff the Mascot in my set. This is her pretty purple party dress.

Me in my set. Now that the triathlon is over, the next big challenge is a sparkly new diet. :moo
      [IMG]

    4. wow I had no idea the set was so hugeeee!!! (I love the teeny tiny moving box!) I think both you, armelia, and truffle are looking quite adorable, thanks so much for all the hard work! :D

    5. Armeleia, you are one pretty person. Don't change a thing.

    6. Oh wow the set is huge!! I love seeing truffle pictures or anyones pets in the sets they are so fun. And Armeleia you look adorable I love short hair! Perhaps you would consider a tutorial on the super cute takeout box?

    7. Thanks, Anno... XD And big thanks to Armeleia, too! ^^ Love both of you!

Firefly, your dress is so stunning... So sad I couldn't vote for it! >.<
Sims, your dress is also stunning... I voted! XD

And Armeleia... what diet? *snort* You're thinner than me! =A=
I forgot to tell you that I voted for your set, too. ^^
But I guess you already know that. XD I love the library look!

    8. D'awwwwwww

    9. Check out mah new signature!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy crap Batman!!!! Thats a big set!!!

Funny when I first saw the pics I thought it was Mini sized..... how COOL!!!!!

Truffle - you are so adorable.... I think I have to get your twin and bring it home!!!!

      A. ...... dont change a think sweetheart - you are PERFECT!!

@ Fransyung.... your sig looks better.... I need to get more creative!!!!

    10. I hope that's not the portion size of your new diet, A!
Damn, I know you are much smaller than me, but that set is still ginormous!

xtal, your set was perfect. PERFECT. As much as I'm always amazed by highly detailed miniature period rooms (The Thorne Rooms, anyone?), I love the sets that aren't the kind of thing that usually gets that type of attention: mundane basement rooms, gritty murder scenes, seedy back alleys. Those really stood out because there wasn't any barrier of a different time period to make one pause and look more closely at the scale.

    11. Thanks :) I hand sculpted the tree with some air dry clay onto the wall, then painted it when it was dry. The chair was a little more complicated. I started with a basic chair shape from card board, then I used a paper bag all crinkled up and cut out into a leaf shape for the back. I then sprayed it with silver paint and added the wires for support and design. I made the seat from some fabric scraps. I really like how it worked out. Whenever I ask people what they think it is made from, aluminum foil is the top guess LOL

    12. Hey, I've seen those! I'd totally forgotten about them until now. It's this vague memory from my childhood, back when we went to the art museum while visiting relatives in Chicago. I remember that my mother had to literally drag me away from the gallery that had all the miniature rooms in it. They were so fascinating!

    13. Thanks for all the lovely comments i have recieved about my entries....i had soooo much fun i can't wait til the next one!.....armeleia i thought your entries were awesome and you deserved the prize and should have kept it...i think Mods should be able to enter comps, hell you run DOA and without this where would we all go? You recieve no perks and moderating is a hard job as i do it myself so i know it's sometimes a thankless task....

And just a note on your set...i would call it a BIG-ature! not a minature, amazing stuff

    14. Armeleia, the handprints were all painted individually. Each handprint has the name of one of my dolls under it, and I actually tried to match the size of their hands.

Sims, no matter how often I see it, that outfit rocks my socks.

    15. armeleia: your set is awsome! I love the little takeout box. (your hair is super cute too) :)

I loved doing this contest and wish I could have finished the third round, but life decided it wasnt meant to be. I did get a cute chair finished.
So here are mine, codename DRACONA:

I really need to work on my photography skills, cause the wig doesnt look as shiny in the pics as it does in real life! lol

I appreciate all the hard work that went into this contest, and do hope to enter again. :D

    16. Hahaha... Don't look at my sig... XD Yours is okay, too!

That is an awesome idea! Must try that sometime!! Thanks!! XDDD

OHHH~ That is so cool...!!! >.< ...and so very thoughtful of you!

      I wish I could pat Truffle... >3<

    17. Haha, the thing is, though -- once I'd painted the handprints and the names (and the names are all done in different handwriting, as if they'd done it themselves), I went: "Wait -- that's sort of an identifying feature! Not good"

So I took no real closeups of the handprints and blurred out the names in all pictures.

Truff looks so adorable in that set... And either she is really tiny, or the set is really huge!

    18. Thanks so much! I really like to knit, so it was the first idea that popped into my head.

    19. Dang Armeleia that set is huuuuuge! Now I'm kinda glad I didn't have time to do the set. I can just imagine his face as the thing grew monsterously out of hand in our apt.
P.S. I think you look just fine the way you are:sweat

    20. It's not just the materials you used-- it's how you used them! Really great job.

leopardessmoon, I love that your chain wig can be styled!

Armeleia, you and Truffle are both very cute. I see that Truffle is actually a 1/3 scale dog. :)

    21. whitewings thanks for the explaination ^^. Im sure if she still really wants the doll she'll buy it from the luts site or 2nd hand though at least ^^

    22. Well I guess I should, join the club and post pics. XD
      [IMG]

      I was "I'm Not Short I'm Just Fun-Size"

Armeleia: Dang that set is huge!!! And you and Truffle are very cute!! I love your haircut.

leopardessmoon: It's so cool that you can style your wig like that, and I love your tape outfit, it's adorable!

    23. Everyone who participated in this--you are all my HEROES! I bow down to your creativity and passion and skill! It was so exciting seeing all the entries--laughing and gasping in awe and wonder and in sheer fun! You all deserve to be winners, 'cause you ARE!!! :D :D :D

    24. Congratulations everyone!!!:) Thank you to the moderators for all the time and thought they put in to this contest. I had a great time. And a big “thank you” to whoever voted for me.;) Here are pictures of my entrees.

    25. Thank you very much. I just submit the form :)

      Thanks again.
I'm still a starter autodidact and I sew very little 'cause lack of time, but I love to do it for my dolls and some tutorial on DOA help me a lot to understand how to work some complex (not so complex for pros) shape.

    26. @armeleia : Awwww thankies!!! the outfit took forever. @_@ I'd recently watched prince of Persia and I guess the style kinda wore off on me LOL Kind of a Sand Knight or something >.>.. :D

And yeah, I think anyone thats dated a goth has been to an apartment like that XD Only mine RL had royal purple walls not white mua ha ha... If I can find a space for it, the set may be getting more action in the future. Spruced up with bought things and a new TV built. As I realllyyyyy don't like how that turned out >,<; *burns it*

    27. For those who are interested, I've just posted a gallery with my set (the gory one-)
You can click here to see it!

I'm just so sad this ended, I can't wait to see what kind of contest will come next year!!
      Long life to DoA!!

    28. Thanks, Armeleia. Hopefully I'll get a chance to make my set eventually when life isn't all crazy. I still want to make one! And I love yours. I knew your set was obviously large, but that is nearly Truffle sized! Now she has her own set too! Even if there's no contests in the future I would love to see more creative challenges just for fun. I would have never thought of making an outfit our of tape.

    29. I thought I'd share a photo of my doll sleeping in my set:

I have about 30 in-progress photos I haven't had a chance to go through yet. I'll post them to the set progress thread if people are interested.

Wow Armeliea your set is so big! Truffle looks so cute in it!

I'm loving all these extra photos! They truly are inspirational. I've actually been collecting the molted feathers of my birds so I can try making a feather wig, I thought the ones from the contest looked so nice!!

    30. Yes, very much interested!

    31. @armeleia thanks for the compliments in reguards to my samurai outfit and Puki set. I am actually thinking of attempting to make that samurai outfit out of material, possibly in time for Halloween.
P.S. Your set is huge! (and awesome) Thank goodness I opted to make mine Puki size, I don't think I would've had a kitchen table anymore if I had chose to make a bigger set lol :)

    32. @ MidnightDreamer *blush* please forgive my over-zealous explanation.... I was emotional at the time...

    33. thanks guys *blush*. I made a silver ribbon wigcap, then a spiderweb like cap on it. each strand of chain was then attached in a pattern much like wefts. I think I am going to add about half and inch to the length now that Ive bought more chain. I used at least 3 yards of chain. Lyssa also insists that more amythist beads be added, cause she only likes purple hair! lol
Lyssa insists of a fabric version of that dress! the tiny petals are going to be a pain unless I just buy silk flowers to cut up, which is the most feasable option.

    34. It was really a pleasure to the eye to watch this contest (and also the other contests).

      Congratulations to all the winners.
It was crazy hard to vote every time. So many good entries.
I think there were so many amazing creations, especially the tape clothing was blowing my mind.

And thumbs up and a thanks for the moderators for hosting this and the other events. It must've been so much work.

    35. Very, VERY interested in seeing these. :aheartbea

    36. lol whitewings you were perfectly within your rights to feel how you feel ^^

    37. Congrats to all the winners! :D

If nobody could tell, I was Dr. Lecter. XD

I think Shiwoo blew my cover. >w>

    38. I was
[IMG] and [IMG]. I never did get around to makin' a set... I just had no clever ideas... oh well! It was amazing to see what you guys came up with!

    39. @SailorLimaBean, I have to admit I just laughed my ass off when I saw your wig!! It's wonderful! And she looks pretty nice in that apron too! :D

    40. Awesome pasta wig, i am so happy someone did that! Thanks for sharing!

    41. I didn't really notice that it wasn't fully pushed down onto her head until I had taken the pics and, foolishly, tossed the wig. Grr! Every time I applied pressure, one more noodle turned into paste. And, fun fact, did you know that hot glue doesn't really stick to cooked spaghetti??? I didn't! (My thumb is FINALLY healed from my burn...)

    42. So glad your thumb is healing - that burn looked down-right nasty!!!

    43. Has anyone tried making their masking tape outfits into cloth outfits yet? I have made my first attempt, only to find I can't finish it. It's not big enough to fit around the doll! Guess I didn't add enough to the masking tape "pattern" to allow for adequate seams. Anyway, here is my masking tape dress and my first cloth effort, just for laughs! By the way, the look I was going for was "Marilyn Monroe meets the Jetsons."

    44. Yes, please! Would love to see in-progress shots. That set is amazing. it's even more amazing when you really start looking at each of the pieces and it slowly dawns on you what it's made from.
And I've been collecting feathers from my boy for years. Thought I might use them in scrapbooking but I don't think I could use them as a wig, the really pretty feathers are too stiff and skinny. I need wider, fluffier feathers to try that. lol..
You know, I never noticed his shirt until now! :doh Awesome shirt, did you make it yourself? I love ElfQuest and Wendy Pini's work.

      LM

    45. *drowns in her own drool*

WOW everyone! I have no words to describe how moving these contest entries are! DoA has some seriously talented members! Congrats to everyone who participated! You're all winners to me!

*goes back and oogles all the pretties*

    46. Sorry for keep posting in a dead thread...
Just wondering if anyone received their postcards or know if the prizes were already sent? Because one of my favourite parts of the contests is watching pics of those "hey I got my prize look how awesome it is!!"

    47. None of the Triathlon prizes have been mailed out yet. It's a lot of work to coordinate all of that, but we'll try to get it done as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

    48. I got my prize and she's amazing!! Mint on Card was very kind and shipped so fast my head spun! Here's a link to a box opening for Blanca...again, thank you everyone for your votes, to the admin for their time and huge effort and for everyone who donated prizes!!

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?396745-Trinity-%28Dikadoll-Blanca%29-Comes-Home!

    49. Congrats to all winners!

    50. I'm glad a lot darthmermer!!
She's so cute <333 And I love the extras that they sent with her too!
Hope you enjoy her a lot!

    51. I'm a little late. Congratulations, everyone! Once again, I am blown away by all the talent here in this little corner of the intarwebs. :)

    52. The last of the prizes have been shipped (aside from Inkling, who is still in production) - sorry for the delays, life here has been so crazy for the past month and a half!

There are some people who have not claimed their prizes. If you have not sent me your address, please do so ASAP. If I can't send your prize by next week, I will give it to someone else. :P

    53. I just wanted to post and say that I received my triathlon postcard in the mail the other day and it is so, so cute! Thank you :)
