Challenge #1: WIG CRAFTING!

Fur and fiber wigs are great, but what about those other materials that are getting left out all the time? Lace, paper, macaroni noodle necklaces? What about them?

Your challenge for this week is to create a wig using alternative materials - no craft fur, mohair, or saran/kanekalon fiber.

Any other materials are all right! Feel free to explore unique materials and search for tutorials and techniques. The toes of pantyhose can make great wig caps! Show us your creativity.

Please remember, you are making a wig, not a hat.

Who May Enter?

This contest is open to all members who do not currently have any unresolved transactions or other disciplinary measures in place. Members must have joined the forum before June 25th, 2010.

The contest is also open to all forum staff.

Rules

1. Minimal use of photo editing, please. We want to be impressed by your creation, not your amazing use of Photoshop.

2. The wig must have been created specifically for this contest.

3. No posting entries or others photos that are recognizably from the same photo shoot until after judging is closed.

4. Wigs must be modeled on on-topic dolls. The wig must be able to be worn on the doll's head. No merkins.

Specifications

You may submit one wig only. You may submit up to 3 photos of the wig from different angles.

Photos must be sent in JPEG format, 600 pixels on the longest side. Oversized photos or photos sent in the wrong format will be disqualified.

Entries will be accepted from August 1st to 11:00pm EST August 8th. For those of you who are unaware, the US is on Daylight Saving time. Entries received after this time will be disregarded; if you do not know what time this is where you are, use this link.

Entries will be submitted directly to the moderators using this form!

Challenge #2: TAPE COUTURE!

For this contest, you will be making an outfit out of beige masking tape, NOTHING ELSE! You may use any width of masking tape in your design, but everything your doll is wearing must be made out of the masking tape (aside from eyes and wig). If your doll is shown wearing shoes, they need to be made of only masking tape!



No painting, dying, or otherwise altering the color of the tape. Your focus should be on the outfit's fit and design!

Your photos will need to be in black and white. Make them as artsy as possible.

(You will also need one color photo to submit for the mods viewing to verify that it's all tape.)

Please do not include your wig from Challenge #1.

If this isn't available where you live, please pm armeleia or junkets to see if we can accommodate you with other materials.

Challenge #3: THE BIG SHEBANG
Please read this posting in its entirity. If you ask a question that is already answered in entry information, you will lose 5 points.

n. a construction representing a place or scene in which the action takes place in a stage, motion-picture, or television production.

For the final contest, you will be creating a photo set for your doll.

Your set must include:

• 2 walls
• 1 floor
• 1 piece of furniture

This is considered a minimum. You may have additional walls or furniture if desired.

Your limitations are:

• You must make everything in the set. This means that if there is a vase with flowers, you must have made the vase and the flowers. If there is a book on the table, you must have made the book. Obviously, we don't expect you to weave your own cloth, but you can't use pre-made objects. We also know that some of us have talented husbands or friends - you cannot ask your family or friends to make items for you. If you find a cool object, you can only use pieces of it to make something new.
• No power tools. You may only use hand tools. No power tools such as Dremel (or other electronic rotary hand tools) or other common shop tools (jigsaw, drill press, etc.).
• You may only spend $20 on supplies (or the conversion of this amount to your country's currency). On the entry form, you will need to itemize the costs of everything that you use for your set. If you purchase items second-hand or at a flea market, you may use the second-hand cost rather than the cost the item would have been new. If it is an item that you had already, please estimate a value. If your estimates seem very "off," you may be questioned or disqualified. Please just play fair! "Recyclables" and trash do not need to be itemized, so we recommend using your household's cardboard leftovers, empty (cleaned) cans and bottles, and discarded packaging. (Wood scraps and old clothes do not count as recyclables.)
• You must incorporate the material from your wig into your set. This may mean using a bit of your material in the furniture or the walls; it could also be using it in part of a decoration.

I was wondering if you could tell us, at least very generally, what this contest will entail. Will it be more of a craft thing, like face-up, sewing, mods, props, etc, or more of an art thing, like photography and drawing. I am trying to figure out which contest I'd really like to shoot for. Thanks ^_^.

 

Unfortunately, some of this contest will be based on not having a huge amount of time to prepare. We will post information about each segment of the competition a bit before that portion of the contest begins to allow contestants time to gather materials/ plan/ etc. Sorry!

 

This sounds interesting. I shall wait to see what is added. The prize seems kind of vague and weird phrased though, Makes me wonder how one goes about getting a prize which has not yet been released. Or is this more a way of saying we don't know yet? Could also be something went lost in the translation. Happens all the time. Anywho I'll be keeping an eye on the thread to find out more.

 

Nope, no 'lost in translation' here. We do know what it is, but as it is a particular doll that hasn't been released by the company (and the company has donated the prize), we can't give away any more information.

I should hope there's no face-up part O.o I don't have any heads for that nor do I have the finances to buy a blank head right now...and I don't know how to clean a faceup off a doll head either. T^T

 

I wouldn't mind wiping the face-up off the doll that I have, but she is a Puki and while I love her to bits, it would be so hard to compete with larger dolls with face-ups! I mean, there is a lot more space to play with on a bigger doll. But I think I will still give this a go anyway - it sounds like so much fun!
Plus, in the odd event I do win, and the doll isn't right for me, my little sisters birthday is the last day of August and she has been wanting a doll for ages - I think I would win the best present competition in my family!! (Yes, we have one!)

 

Why do I keep picturing a reality show about an extreme contest with dolls involved? I may fail, but it sounds too interesting to pass up!

I hope we don't need more than one doll to compete. (I only have one) It would be dreadful if we had to...say...pose two dolls doing handstands next to each other. *shudder*

My guess is that, since there are placeholder posts at the beginning of the thread, that this one will be edited.

 

I'm not sure but I assume it's the same as in other competitions - that you cannot sell it. Since it was a prize, you got it for free, and it seems to me that the right thing to do is to give it to the runner-up if you don't like it, or gift it.

 

You will need one doll to compete in most of the events, but not multiples.

I would too... but not too close to bedtime otherwise I might have bad dreams.

The submission periods should be over before then... after the 21st will probably just be voting.

The prize will be announced before the competition starts. Selling the prize would be a big NO. The option to participate just for fun will be there same as the other contests.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend following us on Twitter or joining our group on Facebook. We post updates and links there, and sometimes give information when we're having unexpected downtime.

No, I think she's just saying that Twitter is an easy way to follow DoA and get updates, such as when each leg of the contest is up and running. Why would Twitter be a requirement? Not everyone uses it. XD

I'm kind of with you on that one, I was just curious. Besides, If I happened to win the doll, I wouldn't plan to get rid of it unless it was atrocious, which I doubt is the case.

 

I think they'll be looking at dolls that will be fairly popular when they're released for the prize though. I just wish we didn't have to wait 3 more weeks before knowing what this contest is about. It's my first time entering because I didn't know this existed and a friend told me about it. I want a boy doll though so I hope it's a boy doll.

I wonder though does the prize doll include a face-up? I'm usually not quite as fond of company face-ups and sometimes I see a doll and think wow that would fit my character a lot. My problem is the familiar condition 'no-money-itis' brought on by the dreaded 'bill-and-bills-and-more-bills bug' LOL

So yeah I could use a good old fashion contest about now for some fun to forget about everything bad a moment and if I should win which I doubt then that'd totally be a bonus. I just hope it doesn't involve face-uping because I have no more faces to face-up upon and no money for buying new faces.

 

The first post says the prize is a "limited fullset" and as far as I know, fullsets ALWAYS come with a faceup.

I'd feel lucky to win anything, faceup or no faceup, fullset or no fullset! I think the prizes this year are just amazing.

Well.... considering that last year Luts started a whole new LE series based on just little ol' us, it may be a logical guess that Luts may have donated one of their newest release of the Untold Story line. There is after all a new one coming out soon, though he has not been released yet. A Corean Luts customer was kind enough to post a newsletter they received by email in the News forum.

This is of course, ONLY an educated guess on my part. I am not in the know about these things. So don't take my word for it!

 

Faceups are removable, so don't stress it.

 

Oh my! If it's Luts, win or no win, I still want to try!
