Contest The Great Triathlon Reconstructed! ~ WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

Jul 28, 2013

    1. Congratulations to the winners and to all who took part :)

    2. Amazed....speechless....there were so many superb entries and very professional looking gifs, truly I didn't think I had a chance after they were posted. I am SO THANKFUL to DoA for this challenge that forced me to learn something while competing in a completely new way for me. Congratulations to MissEmily and thegashlycrumb! Well done in all 3 challenges! Bravos to everyone that finished; and the people that couldn't finish because life got in the way I will be rooting for you next time.

    3. MODS-- this was an incredibly ingenious way to stir up some fantastic skill and creativity. I loved how the final challenge gave us a chance to see the entries and the dolls in ACTION. And the way every single entry went about applying the instructions was such a treat to watch. Thank you to everyone who put forward all the effort to make this a really fun anniversary celebration.

Mucho, MUCHO congrats to the winners! :abow: Show us the new dolls when you get them? :apresent:

    4. I know what you mean! Those gifs were AMAZING! It's no wonder some of them took home 60-70+ votes!
I can't wait to learn who they are!

    5. Congratulations to the winners, and everyone who had the stamina to compete! The entries were amazing!

    6. MissEmily -- please be sure to thank little Milton [and his pop!] for taking this year's family vacation with a special guys time away from Mom while she finished her hard work...you must have a great home, so congrats on that too!

    7. Congratulations, winners! Some really amazing entries. It was fun to compete alongside folks with some serious skills for my first Triathlon. My first entry was very challenging for me but because of this contest, I really pushed myself and managed to make an outfit I'm proud of. ^^ Even though I didn't win a prize, it feels really good to be one of those people that the super-talented MissEmily mentioned...thanks to all you kind folks who voted for The Gent lol. ;) It was a blast "animating" my Victorian gentleman having a tantrum. :3

I too would love to see pics of the lovely dolls when you get them! That full set is really special. <3

The mods were truly amazing, answering all our questions and toiling many late nights no doubt. Can't wait to see our badges of honor! :)

    8. :lol:OH Onion Bulb, "The Gent" was a favorite around here, my husband cracked up. The art work was very beautiful and the humor had us giggling. I think most of us felt like the poor spoiled young man and wanted to trash everything at one point. He expressed what I felt in a hilarious way.

    9. Haha, glad to provide some much-needed laughs, Shulamite! I definitely got some joy out even out of fake-trashing my prop. ;) Congratulations on the win. Your gorgeous beaded dress was a real show-stopper! Can't wait to see pics of your new Dylan once he's home. :)

    10. Wow! Congratulations to the winners-- what amazing entries!

    11. congrats to all the winners :)

I just missed out of the prizes, (and don't mind) because I must admit I am super proud of placing first in the first part of the competition so that just boosts my confidence enormously and I couldn't have asked for more (does her super happy dance, lol) yes I was WhiteFeathers ;) and I was pretty lucky with my thriftshop find.

    12. Congratz to winner!
      As voter it was really hard to put down my vote on someone's work since all of them were so nice ;0 ;

    13. Congrats to all the winners. :)

    14. Congratulations to the winners and all of those who managed to make it through any of these amazing challenges! You are all an inspiration!

    15. I'm truly shocked speechless! There were so many amazing entries in all three parts. Everyone should be proud of their creativity, talent, ingenuity, perseverance and camaraderie. HUGE thanks to everyone involved: the sponsors, the mods, the participants, the voters, and all the family, friends and other supporters cheering on from the sidelines!

Echoing the sentiments above, I hope people will identify their entries, show us more pictures, and tell us more about the projects. As impressive as the final creations were, I'll bet we'll be even more blow-away when we find out more about the blood, sweat, and tears that went into each one!

    16. Congratulations to the winners. It was a tough to vote for just three entries for each challenge. All the entrants showed amazing talent and creativity, not to mention stamina and perseverance. A hearty "well done" for all participants.

    17. Congrats to the winners! You made it through all the challenges. You made amazing creative things with incredible skill with limited supplies and time. .. AND you also managed to please the crowd the most. You deserve kudos and prizes and more.

The competition was tough. Every entry was just awesome. Congrats to everyone involved!!!!!

    18. Congrats again to the winners!

For anyone curious, I was Toastlette:

I'll be putting up progress journals for all three legs of the triathalon on my Tumblr blog over the next few days, and if anyone is interested, I can post the links to them over here for you guys to see. :)

    19. Congratulations to the winners, and kudos to all who finished! This was fun! :)

    20. I was hoping some people would do this, I have some photos and notes as well.
Anaïs sends ending :aheartbea to all participants!!
One day she may even get a faceup ;)

    21. Congratulations to the winners, and well done everyone who completed all three events! I was impressed to see how many of the entrants finished the Triathlon this year, it was certainly challenging.

Here's my entries summed up, I had so much fun playing Zorro with my Z:

Thank you so much to the people who voted for my entries, it really made my day to see those votes from people other than myself. XD For my gif especially, that was such a pleasant surprise! I knew exactly what I had to do for it when the third challenge was announced... X3 Good thing I had made the requisite sword!

Congrats and thank you and general huzzah all around again, this Triathlon was great fun! ^^/

    22. Congrats to all the winners & the participants on finishing the Triathlon! :celebrate
      Truly inspiring entries.

    23. So glad other people will be posting process stuffs. I've got a project journal started for my triathalon journey...basically excerpted from my blog... and so far I've only managed to put in the first leg, but here it is.

    24. I loved your entry AlphaCow. Since I was a kid Zorro was my first favorite Super-Hero and I used to pretend I was him! Beautiful prop; could have been made in Toledo Spain :) I voted for your gif as Best Edited, very smooth and natural looking sword play. Thanks for sharing your entries!

    25. MissEmily you have awesome skills! It's so cool that you could envision that amazing set from the goodwill shirt. Ooooh, those shoes! Every detail in your set was perfect. Thanks for sharing your project journal and your limitless creativity :)

    26. Congrats to the winners! You had really impressive entries.

I loved your gif, AlphaCow! It was really smoothly done.

    27. It's great to see that people are posting progress journals! I think it will give the uninitiated a look into the great amount of work that goes into a very short time period to do all three parts of the triathlon.

And AlphaCow, your Zorro is amazing!

    28. MissEmily - thanks for sharing your project journal! I am absolutely ASTONISHED by your cording. I'm also still fangirling over your shoes - they're simply amazing. :)

I just finished up my project journals, and they're up on my Tumblr blog:

      Challenge 1
      Challenge 2
      Challenge 3

    29. Those are so fun to read! eosthilas I liked your light tent photo of Kissu on the stool so much. How did you get the soft background colors?

    30. Thought since others had started I'd share my secret identity too LOL
      [IMG]

    31. Thanks, mimimontoya!

The background colors come mostly from the depth of the tent. My light tent is about 30 inches deep, and I used a white fabric backdrop that runs down the back wall and then along the floor of the tent, so there's no back corner line. I placed Kissu and the stool pretty close to the front of the tent and set the focal length of my camera very short, so everything behind her would blur out of focus - including any shadows cast behind her and the difference in lighting from the front to the back of the tent - which then caused the soft color changes in the background.

    32. Thank you for describing the set up, eosthilas, I use a point/shoot but still would like to learn to take better photos.

    33. You're very welcome, mimimontoya. :)

Pretty much everything I know about using a DSLR camera I learned in the Photography subforum here on DoA. I really can't recommend that subforum enough. Even with a point and shoot camera, the advice there is incredibly helpful. There are tips on operating different cameras (exposure, focal depth, etc.), camera recommendations, doll posing, Photoshop editing - pretty much you name it and it's in there.

It's definitely worth a look if you're interested in learning more about improving your photos :)

    34. congrats to all the winners and to all who finished the event! :)

    35. The triathlon this year was amazing and it was my first time participating! Thank you so much to the moderators who did all the hard work behind the scenes to make this possible, and all the generous companies who donated prizes for winners! There were so many entries I admired, the competition was stiff and prizes well deserved~

Since everyone is taking off their respective dominos I thought I'd reveal my secret identity as well for fun. :y

I wouldn't want to clog up the thread with my gif, so I'll just say it was very fun to do and very challenging! I was very grateful for everything I learned while doing it! And I loved seeing what everyone did as well. <3~!

    36. I'm doing just that, plus dusting off my manual and have learned some very interesting and helpful things already since my camera does have quite a few settings I can adjust. This triathlon has inspired and motivated me in all kinds of surprising ways and I'm really happy to be participating on DoA more.

    37. Congrats to winners and runners up!
