Contest The Great Triathlon Challenge #2: Chop Shop Props!

Jul 29, 2013

    1. That was my logic on the first round! I bought an outfit, ruined it due to an emotional day and then quickly made an outfit in a few hours just so I wouldn't be out of the running. So huzzah to quickly made things just to progress a bit more!

    2. Don't worry about including your material, we saw it in the first round and if we have any questions we'll let you know!

AND, entries are closed. Great job everyone, I am SO impressed!!

    3. I'm so glad, Antorell XDD No quitting allowed! The rest of the contestants will drag you through the whole thing, we're not leaving anyone behind if we can help it!

GOOD WORK EVERYONE!!!! ^_____^ ARE YOU READY FOR ROUND 3?

    4. Bwahahaha - Just when you thought it was safe to go to sleep!!!! *headesk* I am sooo hating my prop right now!!! LMAO

    5. ...To be honest, if I had finished my original nicer prop in time, I would have had a considerably harder time with ideas for round three than I do with my hastily-made backup. This is gonna be pretty intense to complete though, yikes.

    6. Sorry, this one's beyond me.
Good luck, everybody! Will look forward to seeing your worlds!

    7. ...and the evil laughter really sums it up XD *nudges St. James...*

      Good luck everyone!!

    8. I know, right? I finally get to use that smiley!

    9. My recycle bin was picked up today. Extra full. :sweat I finished off a few products/food stuffs/things in a hurry trying to produce proper interesting recycle-able "bones" for chop props. I can't wait to see all the things that similar items became, with all the little hints and questions on this thread. I am in a major war with my hoarding tendencies for now, so I kept reminding myself I could find these things again -- to try out ideas I'm sure I am going to love, when I see what shows up here!
It was such a busy place I decided to let it go that I didn't get an answer on how to stay in the game with a doll that was no longer anonymous. I'm learning so much this year though, about whole new arenas, and maybe future challenges and contests.

:abow: ~ to all you guys who are persevering! NOW a world. :thumbup

    10. DaughterofEden, I'm sorry if there was confusion! I thought we'd made it clear that you were welcome to submit your entry even though you would only be playing for fun now. :(

    11. St. James -- don't feel bad. No apology needed. I can be really dense for one thing. Boy, was that evident as I saw how I messed up some of the instructions to begin with.
I got lessons in reading comprehension which is invaluable! hah... and I still feel like I am playing. :3nodding: I probably check this thread more often than anybody to see if the projects have been posted yet. I can't wait to see. My appreciation will be great just because I've been looking at recycling goodies for a week now trying to imagine them as props.

And I was in the middle of creating a REAL doll world, PEOPLE SIZE, THREE DIMENSIONAL, so timing couldn't be better. I moved a giant china cabinet into my living room and am just beginning that project. Getting to share the wealth of ideas here for props and back drops will be super for me. Even black and white drawings may help inspire the new creation going on at my house. So I'm still with you every step of the way.

Pictures of the doll world waiting to be hatched at my house: [IMG] ~ I had just brought this in, right before the first stage of THE GREAT TRIATHLON. [and my house is totally!!! turned upside down!!! from making room for it which meant when I dropped a needle during the sewing part, I couldn't FIND another one. But soon my doll world will be settled and the playing for REAL will begin.] [IMG]
Even though I AM going to paint it white ^^ and wax it -- I know it wouldn't have fit into the challenge 3. However, I am expecting to get some good ideas for it from the genius that I am sure will rise to the occasion for the last leg of the TRIATHLON.

p.s. -- I know it would be stretching it to leave this on the thread, so I'll understand if I get one of those notifications in my box from the mod squad. This thing had been on my porch for weeks while I scrambled to clear a LARGE wall for it.
~ My Kun girl hasn't forgiven ME yet though. haaa...that the Supia at our house got the new dress and to be the model in stage one, ALL BECAUSE I blew her anonymity in her shopping trip pictues with the funny Good Will guy.

    12. This maybe a stupid question.... Where do I go to see the entries?

    13. Entries have not yet been posted. We're hoping to have the voting form up tonight. Armeleia had been having Internet access problems!

    14. Where are the entries or the voting link? Isn't today the last day to vote?

    15. Namaro, it seems armeleia is probably still having Internet problems. I am sure they will adjust the voting days accordingly once they can get up the entries.

    16. It would be helpful to have a new time frame for the voting.

    17. Yeah... I'm just trying to vote on things and it's a bit confusing...! Might help if info is updated and linked in the first post? I know things are crazy-busy with all these different contests and all, so, no worries. Thanks!

    18. We'll update the voting timeframe when voting is up! Thank you for understanding!

    19. The entries are up and voting is open!! Thank you for your patience, everyone! It's been a rough week for the team, both on and off the forum. :sweat

    20. Patience is a virtue. ;)

The entries are fun; great use of recycled material.
      Nice work everyone!

    21. I can't stand it! I finally voted for three, but it really hurt to eliminate some of them. So many fantastic, creative entries, it doesn't seem fair they can't all win.

    22. Man that was HARD!!

    23. Aaaaah! That's the best lookin' trash I ever did see! Doll people are the best!

    24. Omg, it was so hard to vote, I liked so many so much and admired all the projects! They were ALL 'best use of materials', yep! This whole triathlon needs to be shown to new doll owners when they are stumped and on a budget to make and do things for their dolls. :)

    25. That was the hardest thing I've ever had to vote for :O
I'm not sure what I expected from this challenge but you guys blew my mind - they were all so fantastic!!

    26. I ended up voting for the same people I did in the first round (could tell by the dolls). Their entries weren't the flashiest but they had style and they appealed to my particular taste. It will be fun to find out who they are.

    27. I think I voted one of the dolls the same, however I did see a prop that was so stunning I couldn't even believe the made that out of all recyclable material and I didn't recognise the doll. There was some really cute props as well. I knew people was going to be really surprising with what they made.

    28. It pays to look at the detailed pics. Some things looked unimpressive at first but very nice in close-up, and vice-versa.

    29. I agree, and the starting materials are really interesting on some of the very impressive entries. i did enjoy looking through the photo's.

    30. All of these entries were great! It was soooo hard to cast my votes. :D
      Good luck to you all!

    31. Wow! Everyone did a really amazing job. It was very difficult to vote and I didn't get to vote for some I still really loved. But wow!

    32. It was hard to choose just three. There were so many clever and imaginative uses for recyclable materials. I was totally impressed by the creativity. Kudos to everyone.

    33. Wow!! Those were amazing. Well done everyone!!!

    34. It was a lot of fun seeing all the different ideas people came up with. So many of them it was hard to tell how all the recyclable materials became the finished product. I really hope after the contest is over that people will post more detailed pictures and tell us all more about the construction process!

    35. Agreed! It was a tough vote, especially since my favorite was my favorite BECAUSE I thought it had the best concept AND the best use of materials... so I had to just divvy my top 3 up amongst the categories. I'll tell you what, though, they were ALL great!

    36. I do too, I'm learning a lot but really would like to be able to ask a few questions about some things and read more about the projects and the processes!

    37. I did the same thing. I wish we were able to simply vote for the three we felt were best, with first place votes counting for three points, second for two and third for one. The criteria for all three would be the same: adherence to requirements of the challenge, creative concept and imaginative use of materials. Skilled execution isn't a stated criterion, but I'm sure all of us voters have it in mind as well. I also think it would be more understandable for those who don't read because they think they know what something says without reading it (and they will always be with us) so we wouldn't have as many people voting for the same one as First, Second and Third as we do with the three categories. My 2¢, for what it's worth (2¢).

    38. MAN, this was tough. I had a clear "favorite" right away but I tore my hair for half an hour over "most creative use". Everyone's ideas are so neat, even the simplest ones! It's fantastic to see what we can do with nothing more than imagination, trash, glue, incentive and a deadline. :)

    39. It is really hard to choose, but there are a couple of reasons why we ask the questions we do. We don't want the votes to always be about technical skill, because we want everyone to feel comfortable participating regardless of their skill levels at certain things. It was perhaps a bit off putting this time to have a first challenge that was more sewing oriented this time, but that's just how it played out. The second reason is becuase our voting software can't assign more weight to a particular vote. That would involve some mathematical formulas after the fact, and we'd like to keep it as simple and transparent as possible. Where we can, we'll be posting the nifty pie charts that the database generates to show everyone how the voting went. Since the database calculates this based on form submissions not form output, there is no way for us to alter these numbers. I like that very much! :)

    40. Wow, all the entrants deserve major kudos on this one! Those were some wonderful props! Just amazing!!! :D

    41. I had to take a couple of days to think over this one! sO maNy had amazing all kinds of things... perfection in details, objects I would LOVE to have, creative adapting of the materials, beautiful, simple elegance -- the best "this" or the most "that" ... fun FUN stuff guys!!

    42. All of the props are fun! But the most fun are the objects that you can still see what the original materials were.
