Contest The Great Triathlon Challenge #1: Under Glass

Aug 6, 2016

    1. ok thank you :)

    2. I think I'm nearly finished with my piece unless I think of something during the night. I'll probably start taking pictures tomorrow.

I'm really excited for voting to see what everyone else has made.

    3. I'm a new doll owner, so this is my first time participating in the Triathlon... Holy cow I just started today and it is a lot of work!! I just hope I finish in time.

    4. :chocoheart:chocoheart:chocoheart:chocoheart:chocoheart:chocoheart
Chocolate for everyone. Stay hydrated! You've got two and a half more weeks!

    5. Good luck to everyone. Be prepared for some all-nighters!

    6. can we use a doll that is under 20cm?

    7. I was told this when asking about my doll:
"You are welcome to use any doll that is on topic for any of the contests."
So I'd assume size does not matter.

Does anyone have style shots from previous triathlons? I'm a bit confused on what makes a style shot different from other pics.

    8. I think the style shot is to highlight the transparency and beauty of the outfit, and it can be from any angle, whereas the others are just straight-line front and back to show the technical details of the outfit? I know last year the style shots were black and white, but is doesn't seem like they have to be this year.

    9. Thanks, I was a little confused on that and I'm about to the point where I can take my photos so I want to make sure I get them right.

    10. Haven't checked DoA in a few days. Whoops! Guess I won't be doing the Triathlon this year.

    11. I just submitted my entry and I hope I filled out that submission form correctly. I always worry that I filled it out wrong.

    12. Just about finished, though no doubt there'll be one or two last minute touches in the morning!

Very much looking forward to seeing what everyone came up with, the extremely different takes on the same theme are usually most of the fun!

And style shot question - anyone have any previous examples? (I'm totally flummoxed about how best to simultaneously show off preserved poseability and the outfit)

    13. I think the pose just needs to be something natural. I dont know if showing the range of motion is super inportant.

    14. well they did say that the doll should be able to move its joints still... even if limited. So I think showing some range of motion is important.

    15. I think i might of been thinking too much about and working in the contrst... hahah Last night I dreamt that part 2 of the contest had started and we had to build an in-scale model of a castle for our doll. lol

    16. Oh god... that would definitely be when I dropped out. xD

    17. I've been up all night chasing scissors (ended up finding them inside my chair x.x), trying to figure out how to cut out a pattern/use darts, and pinning pattern pieces to material that I've never used... only to realize that I probably pinned it on wrong but by then I was too far in and just said "screw it" and hope it turns out okay. XD

    18. Lol that is a bussy night "working" on the contest you had too ha ha ha. Altho happy I'm not to only one who "pulled and all nighter" ;)

    19. Agh, I get to a point where I'm loving my outfit, then I step back and think "wait a sec, this actually kind of looks like total garbage." >_<. More trial and error, and I'm back to being happy with it, planning to take photos tomorrow morning! SO excited to see everyone's interpretations of this one! Keep at it guys! :D

    20. Well form submitted. (As always my photography skills, or rather lack thereof, mean it's nearly impossible to see what's going on with my doll's outfit - but I did decide to do this with a mind to actually have the doll keep the clothes on a semi-permanent basis so it's a win regardless!)

I really am curious to see how everyone else decided to tackle the brief, it's always fun seeing the unexpected ways other people interpreted it!

    21. Oh no! I'll be out of town the days leading up to the deadline! I guess I won't be participating this time. Good luck to everyone entering!

    22. Oh my god, so many of you have already submitted their entries. How do you do that? I always end up needing the time almost till the deadline although I started right away on day 1. :sweat

I so know that feeling. When I started out I had a plan and thought that it was perfect, but now that I look at it, I do have my doubts. Anyway, it's way too late now to change anything, so I'll just have to finish it off somehow tomorrow, take the pictures and be good with it.

    23. Everyone's in here talking about finishing up while I'm just getting started :sweat It's cool, [dolly I'm entering with], we got this..! *_*

    24. The poor Doll I'm entering with, I haven't made his regular clothes yet. I just got him and then found out about the contest... Ah well, he'll get clothes after the contest!

    25. I've got my photos taken, still need to sort through them and figure out which shots are not going to the recycle bin, but I am actually happy with how my outfit turned out. :) Probably nothing compared to what some of the other entries will be but it looks totally adorable on my dolly anyway, and through crafting I've gotten to know them a lot better which is always a good thing.

    26. That's correct!

The Winners Circle from past events has had most of the photos restored, so check out the level of quality on the winning entries. You've got one more day to get it done, so keep pushing! Past winners did some amazing things with the same constraints! :)

    27. I'm new to tumbler how do I make a private post , as you suggested please?

    28. When posting on your desktop you can select a private posting option in the menu by clicking the gear, if I remember correctly. You'll then be the only one to see the post itself, but you can right click the image and open the image into a new tab, and giving people that new tab's url will allow them to view the picture. Best of luck!

    29. Thanks so much...for some reason I cant upload my photos :( thank you for reply/help!

    30. You could always make a private album on imgur or create a photobucket account for your pictures.

    31. Could you send me a link to that? I have no idea how to locate the past events area to find it

    32. Do you know how to check the image size? I'm worried about submitting images in the wrong size and being disqualified.

    33. It's in the sidebar of this subforum on a PC or at the very bottom on mobile. :)

    34. Dear god I forgot to check my sizing when I submitted mine! :aeyepop:
:eusa_pray Please let them be the right size

    35. ...aaaand submitted! Good luck everyone!!

    36. O.o.... everyone is submitting like crazy and I'm sitting here with pieces of stuff in my lap.... lol. Trying to at least get the easy part done before bed.... then tomorrow I'll have to tackle the main part....ugh.... I really hope my anxiety doesnt decide to take over and make me screw up anything. The materials I'm working with basically only give me one shot at this (wish I had more of it but unfortunately I do not). I'm really hoping I can get done with enough time to take pictures before deadline. I wish I didnt have to work tomorrow x.x

    37. Good luck to those who've submitted already and I'm cheering for those who need the strength to finish, "You can do this!"
Got my entry in, hopefully it went through alright. So excited to see everyone's entries and how we all interpreted this. Curios to see what similarities and differences everyone's entries have. :)

    38. First time entering the triathlon! Had some hick ups, but I made it! :dance
I submitted all my pics, now I can take a well deserved nap!
      Good luck everyone!:aheartbea

    39. I'm in the same boat. Got one part of it done yesterday, still have to do the other part after work today. And I only got 5 hours of sleep to operate on, woo! :sweat

    40. And my outfit is finished! It was looking touch and go for a while, but now I only need to take the photos, put togetherr the collage and upload.

    41. Thanks so much for this awesome theme! I never finish any of my projects due to lack of faith, but this actually made me push myself and pull through. I'm happy and proud to actually having entered something for the first time. Thanks for the cool experience. I'm excited to see what comes next :D

    42. Those of you still working, you can still make it and make something amazing! :sumomo:

I've seen some awesome stuff that's been pulled off at the last minute, and I made a crunch or two a couple years ago (didn't participate last year). You'll do great, and I'm looking forward to seeing everything that's being made!

    43. I have my photos sucessfully (in private ) in photo bucket. FINALLY! Two ?'s how do I make the collage requested as part of contest and how do I get the url for my photos (in photobucket) ?? oh time crunch!!!
thank you for help!! PLEASE !!!

    44. You could always use a colloge making app or photoshop if you have it. Theres lots of free apps out there that make collages.
Photobucket is not the best to use but youll find the url on the side of your picture when looking at it. It will say image and have like a little box you can click on that starts with url.
But i heard there is something wrong with the url code you get from photobucket. So id use tumblr next round its way easier too.
Good luck o hope you can find it

    45. Good Luck everyone! I feel like we are competing in Project Runway: the BJD Edition!

    46. Ok so I wasn't able to get started until yesterday (Thursday) I had a rough patch of hating my outfit for a while but I'm back to liking it again. It is now 12:30 on Friday and I am FINISHED making my outfit. I still have to take my pictures and submit.
Good luck to everyone and those of you still working keep going.

    47. Last year I used Photobucket and it worked great. I just read someone's post saying there is a problem. Can you tell me what is going on?

    48. It doesn't seem to like my flickr photos. It doesn't like the format?

    49. For those making a photo collage you can use Pic Monkey :):)

    50. I posted some details upthread showing how I get a jpg url out of Flickr with an example from a previous contest - it's post 48.

    51. Theres some thing wrong with the bb code attached to it and it requires alot of clean up on the mods end. But im not a tequincal person i dont know if its just something i did lol

    52. I used photobucket too... I didn't see anything wrong with the direct link... can a mod confirm that this is happening so we know to change for the next round?

    53. It is fine to use Photobucket. You are given four options for links to share - chose the second one that is called direct link. This one does not include the img tags and extra link back URLs that break the submission form.

    54. Phew, uploading and submitting now! Going through and deciding on which photos to use took way longer than I thought it would >_< Keep up the awesome work everyone!! :thumbup

    55. I used the wrong link. :doh

    56. Yea! I have submitted.

    57. So, how do we know our entry was successfully submitted? There was no message that it was sent or ability to preview it beforehand.

    58. Well usually after you click the submit button there appears a confirmation on the top of the page that it was submitted successfully. Yet if you have doubts I guess it would be better to contact the mods about it.

    59. Good idea. I remember last year seeing that at the top of the page and did not this time.

    60. I finished mine last night and will be doing photographs tonight to squeak in before the deadline! I used photobucket last year, but if I can use Tumblr that sounds way easier to me...
