The first BJD you ever wanted vs the first BJD you got.

Aug 28, 2010

    1. Anyways my question to you guys is what was the first bjd you ever wanted?
The first doll that I really wanted was a pukifee Luna (Alice). I was really into Alice in Wonderland things and I wanted a Alice doll.

Was it the doll that ended up being your first?
Peak's Woods Naomi and only because the DollHearts website had Peakswoods dolls modeling their Alice themed clothing.

Did you or didn't you ever get that doll you originally wanted? (and if not then what made you decide that?)
I did see a pukifee Luna-Alice for sale in the marketplace but by then, I had gotten a Luts TinyDelf Alice Limited and after playing around with her, and realizing that tinies weren't really my thing so I've never thought about it since.

    2. What was the first bjd you ever wanted?
      Delf Dark Elf Soo

Was it the doll that ended up being your first?
No. The plan was to wait until February of 2007 and use the tax return to get Dark Elf Soo. Luts then posted their event head and I really liked her too and at the time buying a body was enough to earn a free head. Luts also had plans at the time to release Dark Elf Soo's head as a type 2 version that summer, so I thought I will get this Juri as a full doll, then get the Dark Elf Soo head this coming summer and they can share a body. So my first doll was a Delf Juri 06.

Did you or didn't you ever get that doll you originally wanted? (and if not then what made you decide that?)
Luts never did release Dark Elf Soo in a type 2 version. I kept waiting for it to happen, but it never did and then I got caught up in one event after another and kept putting her off because she was just a basic doll and I could get her at any time. Then the whole Delf line was pulled with less than a month's notice. I could not manage to get a Dark Elf Soo in time.
Thankfully one showed up in the MP for a nice price. She was NS and had her default faceup. My wonderful husband found out and ended up getting her for me for our anniversary last year. :D
So it took me seven and a half years to get my "first" doll, but she eventually made it home. :)

    3. What was the first BJD you ever wanted?
      A Soom Kanoa
Was it the doll that ended up being your first?
Nope! My first doll purchase was a Customhouse little junior Jupiter head, and my first full doll was a Fantasydoll Ono. The Jupiter was a bit of an impulse buy, while my Ono (now Louis) was to shell a character of mine. I've found Yos to be a very manageable size, too, I'm not sure if I could handle an SD like Kanoa!

Did you or didnt you ever get that doll you originally wanted?
I haven't yet, but I might, who knows! I'm still in the beginnings of the hobby, in my opinion, since it hasn't quite been a year since I got Jupiter. I certainly haven't given up, but I have a few things to do before I pursue a purchase like that

    4. Anyways my question to you guys is what was the first bjd you ever wanted?
A Dollfie Dream Sasara was the first doll I wanted, though the Minifee Miyu was the first real BJD I seriously wanted to get.

Was it the doll that ended up being your first?
      Luts Kid Delf Cherry girl

Did you or didn't you ever get that doll you originally wanted? (and if not then what made you decide that?)
No, because I couldn't stand Fairyland's current prices and wait times and limited DDs are hard to find.

    5. First doll I ever wanted was the (limited) Luts Kid Delf Yul Satyress Human ver. with the elf face-up. I fell in love with her at first sight.

The doll I ended up with was not her. It sold out right before I was able to get all the money together. I was so upset at the time, considering I was only a few days away from being able to get her. But it was for the best, because then in the search for a different doll sculpt I discovered Fairyland. I was leaning towards getting a MNF Ante, but the night I got the money together I noticed they released the MNF Rin full set. I got that (on complete impulse), and I couldn't be happier. I love her.

I have yet to get the lut's kid delf Yul. I never got her because, like I said, she sold out. She is still on my wishlist and I'm hoping that some day I will be able to get her second hand, but in all honesty she isn't that high up on the doll wishlist anymore. I won't be upset if I can never get her.

    6. I think the first BJD I ever wanted and still want is a SwitchDoll Hahwa. Whether or not I would buy him with Switchdoll's body is irrelevant, I just love that head sculpt. But the first doll I brought was a Dollzone Silvia, which I think was a great first doll.

About a year after discovering them, I ordered a new Cecile, and two month later a 2nd hand Code - and the two of them arrived at my place just a few days apart from each other :)

      Resinsoul Yao ;)

Did you or didn't you ever get that doll you originally wanted? (and if not then what made you decide that?)
I saw her and fell in love with her immediately. Then I waited for a month before I ordered her. Because I wanted to figure out if I really want her. I searched for many pictures of different companys and so on. But it was still her. So I get her home und never regret this decision <3

    13. Anyways my question to you guys is what was the first bjd you ever wanted?
Probably KDF nana. Though this was the first bjd I identified, there were a few before that I had seen pictures of, but not known who they were.

Was it the doll that ended up being your first?
No, my friends got me a B&G Loretta white cat and I decided that tinies were more for me :D

Did you or didn't you ever get that doll you originally wanted? (and if not then what made you decide that?)
i kind of fell out of love with larger sized dolls... Except maybe for DIM Flowne. She's currently on the top of my wish list!

    14. Anyways my question to you guys is what was the first bjd you ever wanted?
Dream of Doll's Homme Ducan! I'll admit, I'm sort of surprised how often I'm seeing him mentioned in this thread--I can't say I blame anyone though haha~

Was it the doll that ended up being your first?
      Yep!

Did you or didn't you ever get that doll you originally wanted? (and if not then what made you decide that?)
Since I've already answered that yes, I did get a Homme Ducan, I'll tell the story of how I got him (and thus into the bjd hobby in general) for this question.
Mine isn't a typical story-- I was young and at a local convention (which happens to be Animazement, high five AidenNeedles! :D) and it was actually my mother who saw another attendee with a bjd and asked them about it as it looked like something I'd be interested in. I wasn't even there when it happened, but I assume the person she talked to was friendly about it because once we were home from the convention my mother gave me a piece of paper with some information about dolls written on it. I'd seen them in passing but knew nothing about them. (I was far too shy at the time to approach someone and ask about them as my mother had.) I went to the Volks website and wasn't terribly impressed (I only managed to find basic dolls there) so I decided to try one more site. That site ended up being Dream of Doll. I clicked the DOT section randomly, not knowing what it even stood for, and instantly loved the doll in the thumbnail for Homme Ducan. Before I even clicked I was going "that's it, that's the one I want", and sure enough I only became more enamored. Between some time to save up and asking for him as a Christmas present I was able to order him a few months after discovering him. (The day I ordered him is also the day I signed up here on DoA, so maybe I should have become a member and read up more BEFORE I ordered him, but I got to learn a lot while I waited and I'll admit, I think it's kind of cool that my forum joining date is also another important date.)
Despite my jumping into the hobby with very little researching (I read up on proper bjd care and whatnot but knew very little about what a wide selection of dolls were available and I'd never even held a doll before I got him) I'm happy to say I was thrilled with him when he came and still now, seven and a half years later, adore him. I've had buyer's remorse over some dolls but thankfully he's never been one of them.

    16. The first doll I wanted was an Iplehouse JID "I" sculpt but alas when I had the money to purchase her the sculpt was temporarily out of stock ... I checked back several times over several weeks and continued to look around. I ended up getting a Fairyland MNF Chloe instead and it is the best choice I ever made in the doll hobby.

My friend had an Iplehouse JID girl that I was able to handle after being in the hobby for 2 years and I hated how she posed. I was so glad of my choice to go with fairyland :)

    17. Hello everyone!
I originally wanted to get a Blue Blood Waltz. But because i wasn't too sure how much i would enjoy the hobby or if it would be something i would continue to explore, so i went with a cheaper doll.
My first BJD was my Fantasy Doll Tobias, now known as Kenji. And i absolutely love him! I don't regret buying him as my first doll. Since then i have acquired more dolls, but Kenji remains my favorite. I have yet to get my Blue Blood Waltz, but i will some day. :D

    18. It's hard to remember the first bjd I saw, but the first that really stuck with me was a Soom Heliot with the default faceup. Ended up getting a ResinSoul Gang as my first doll. Not sure of I'll ever get a Heliot head since I don't like the sculpt as much when it doesn't have the default faceup, but we'll see. ;)

    19. The first doll I ever wanted was the DollZone Kimi, I saw her and fell in love and dear lord I still love her. I never had the money for her though and it's kind of upsetting, even more so when her sculpt got discontinued this summer and I knew I would only ever get her second hand... I guess it's fine but it is still really sad!!

But verses the first doll, well dolls, I got I am not upset I got them!!

My first two dolls I both got second hand at a great price! My boyfriend said another friend was selling them and I hoped on the deal the first chance I got. I got a ResinSoul Bei in Grey skin and I adore her personality, and I got an Angel of Dreams Aiai on a boy body, who for the first few weeks I just called 'Sad boy.' Eventually then became Beijing and Emile and I adore and love them body a ton! I'm not upset I got the first dolls I did.

    20. Anyways my question to you guys is what was the first bjd you ever wanted?

The first BJD I ever wanted was Leekeworld Mikhaila but back then I was totally ignorant to the fact that Leeke released their dolls during ordering periods and so she was long gone by the time I found their site.

I didn't have access to the Marketplace here back then either and the secondhand prices I saw on eBay were absolutely ridiculous and so I just began to hope that she'd be re released by Leekeworld one day.

Was it the doll that ended up being your first?

The first doll I purchased was Leekeworld Ariana, part of what drew me to Mikhaila (besides her adorable face) was the Art Body and Ariana was on that body as well,I of course love the Ariana sculpt and I find the larger head to be ridiculously cute.
      :XD:

Did you or didn't you ever get that doll you originally wanted? (and if not then what made you decide that?)

I did end up getting a Mikhaila!
:),one night I went over to the Leekeworld section on DDE to find a new wig for my Ariana and I decided to look at the In Stock dolls for to real reason,to my surprise there were a few Mikhaila in stock and I immediately purchased one without a second thought.

    21. well, i dont know how got into this hobby, i think it kinda found me... (less than 2 years ago)
i started lookig around at some, but only looin. the first Asian jointed doll I wanted to buy was a27cm obitsu,(first because ithought she.d help me mprove m photography skills, with capturing people) I got her quite quick as she was affordable. I then realised that I liked jointd dolls and went on hunt for the right bjd (im quite picky!) I cam across minifees, and realy liked them, but kept looking. I went back to th minifees after I realised I realy liked the joints and sculpt of the body...orderd and recently received my minifee chloe!
im really wanting an Iplehouse Boris, so im saving up for him next year some time.

I don't impulse buy... I only buywhat I really want.

    22. Anyways my question to you guys is what was the first bjd you ever wanted?
The very first doll I wanted was a Volks Myu, then I realized Volks wasn't the only company around. I also liked Dream of Doll Yu.

Was it the doll that ended up being your first?
No, I got a X2 Elizabeth head and an AOD body.

Did you or didn't you ever get that doll you originally wanted? (and if not then what made you decide that?)
No, I did get the third doll I wanted though. After giving up on Dream of Doll I went on ebay and it was full of auctions of Serendipity dolls. My favourite was Noel and I did get one in the end.
I never get a Volks MSD not a Dream of Doll mini because I realized I didn't like their immature body, I may get a DOD in the future though since they changed the body.

My first BJD I wanted the first Time was a Iplehouse EID Bichun.

Was it the doll that ended up being your first?
My First Doll was a Iplehouse SID Barahan

Did you or didn't you ever get that doll you originally wanted? (and if not then what made you decide that?)
I didn't get the Doll I wanted the first Time and I will not get it because I was thinking EID will be too large for me. So I ended up with SID Size but
I notice the SID size is also nothing for me so I sold also my first Dolls and bought another Doll. :)

    28. The first doll I wanted was a Dollzone Yuu, who is my Grail Doll ever since I first saw him and as you can see in my signature at the moment will be ordered by the end of this week X3

The first doll I ordered and got though was my Dollzone Hid out of two simple reasons:
      1. The DZ Hid for me is like a MSD-sized brother to the Yuu sculpt (I bet it's only me who things like that XD)
      2. The DZ Hid's default face up was perfect to fit my OC Reito <3 Since I know the Yuu's default FU would not have fit the character I've in mind for him but I wanted my first doll with a FU I decided to get the Hid first. Would've bought the Hid at some point in time anyways. Other option would've been the Mo for he also fits an OC of mine nicely with is default faceup. But there where 2 nice reasons for the Hid and only one for the Mo, so Hid moved in first. ;D

    29. For some reason, I convinced myself first off that I wanted a special Touhou Project Dollfie Dream. I mean, yes, I absolutely love Touhou Project, but with the way my taste in dolls has gone I couldn't really imagine myself owning an anime-style doll now. Still, though, I wanted the Cirno or Sakuya fullset. Of course, I was also terribly uninformed and thought that Dollfies were the only BJDs out there.

A few years and a good amount of research later, I absolutely fell in love with Mystic Kids Lawrence, the doll I would eventually order as my first BJD. I've discovered I really have a fondness for narrow/slanted eyes and prominent noses in a sculpt, and the Lawrence has both. Plus, MK is something of a cheaper company, which made him an ideal starter doll in any case. I couldn't be happier with him.

The first doll I ever got: Fairyland MNF Risse Head on Moe-Line Boy Body

I really didn't expect my first doll to be a Fairyland!
I mean sure I knew their posing capabilities were fantastic and I was fond of some of their face sculpts, but I'd always been a much more active fan among other companies. I guess it's just destiny ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He's still on my wish list, but I don't have him yet. I hate how Migidoll does its sales and he's out of my price range for a doll I can't put on layaway. I still plan to get him someday. I'm certain he'll be worth the wait, and I hope to be quite skilled at face-ups and sewing when he finally does come home, which will be a major factor in how much I adore him. ^_^

    34. the very first doll that I ever, ever really wanted was... to be honest no one in particular. I got into the hobby because of this virtual band, Mistula and then I said to myself I'd like to own such because I would love to make a story with them. I searched Nd looked and I fell in love at first sight with Doll Love KE. I was really hesitant because she's so small and I didn't know if I could handle a smaller doll(I was thinking bigger dolls would be easier to handle) but then I risked it and ordered her. She's my very first doll and I'm happy I found her. I truly love her. She's the longest one I've had so far and the others get reshelled a lot but she always manages to capture my heart over and over and so she stays. Even after years, I find her adorable.

I remembering finding her more than once. And I was totally in love with her. But the hobby is expensive so I decided not to get her. another year went by, and finally one day final year of school I decided that I wanted a BJD. And I again looked around. And there she was, still the same beautiful doll that I found two years before Doll-love Alina, so I ended up ordering her. and I have had her for a year now. and Have just ordered another of the same doll. :)

    44. The first BJD I ever wanted was a Soom Cuprit. Of course, when you're first introduced to BJDs, Soom's crazy photoshoots for their dolls always show high up in the search.

Because of the pricetag, I didn't seriously look at buying BJDs until I had a comfortable amount of disposable income. That's when I saw Doll Chateau's Elizabeth; I saw her and instantly thought, "That girl is worth EVERY PENNY."

Technically, though, the first Resin BJD of my own I ever held in my hands was a Doll Family-A Kai, that little cat. Saw a sale and bought it on a whim, but turns out it arrived quicker than the DC Elizabeth!

    45. I was a total newbie to the hobby when I discovered Fairyland and their Littlefee. I went head over heels for both Ante and Leah and found a full-set Leah soon after on the bay. So as it turns out I impulse bought my very first doll, a Littlefee Leah. Yes, my first doll was a second-hand girl.

I am still head over heels for the Ante sculpt though...

    46. The first doll I wanted was a RS mei that was about three maybe four years before I got my first doll or even really knew much about the hobby at all. I don't even remember how I ended up looking at bjds at all. I don't know why I just really liked her face and the price.

The first doll I got was Elfdoll Pandora, whose face I also really like. I don't doubt that someday I'll get that RS Mei. I just... dunno I've heard so many mixed things about RS dolls.

    48. The first BJD I ever wanted was a DOD homme Ducan, I discovered BJDs in 8th grade and only knew about Luts and DoD. The first doll I ever got was an Iplehouse J.I.D. Tania during my freshman year of college. I still don't have a Ducan, but I do like his sculpt. My taste has changed a lot over the years so I'm not sure if I'll ever actually get him.

    52. The first doll I ever wanted was Volks dollfie dream Airi from Queens Blade. Got into the hobby end of 2012 but Airi was made in 2008, which meant she is already a rare commodity by then. Adopted a custom Volks Yukino 1st version as a starter because I liked her custom face-up. Still have her until now. After years pass by on the forgotten dream, I ran lucky and finally got to adopt my grail doll's head and outfit from DOA. Can't wait for her to arrive :)

    53. The first doll I fell in love with was the Soom Idealian Hyperon Dhampir. He was such a beautiful sculpt but unfortunately sold out :...( Also I couldn't imagine myself buying such an expensive doll, because I didn't have a job at the time.
After getting a job for this hobby and saving up, my first doll was a Migidoll Cho head on a Spirit doll Elegance body. I still hope one day I can own a Soom doll though, and the prices don't shock me anymore

    54. Hrm, well, the first doll I wanted was the 4 armed soul doll Shiva (which I still want so so so much). I ended up getting a carved heritage iplehouse Pamela (Astrid) instead. I'm happy enough with her, but then discovered doll chateau sculpts and pretty much love those the best.

    57. The first doll I wanted is an Iplehouse EID Asa. I don't remember exactly how I ran into her but I remember she's the one that made my go from thinking BJDs were beautiful to thinking "Wow, I want one." Between that and actually being able to afford one a few years passed. I'd had a different doll planned to be my very first doll, but then Angell Studio had that summer promotion and released a doll I fell in love with and I decided to change the order of things a little bit. So it goes:

First doll I wanted: Iplehouse EID Asa
First doll I was going to get: Fairyland FP65 Chloe
First doll I actually got (though she's not here yet): Angell Studio Xi Shi

I still plan on getting a Chloe once I can afford to get another doll, and I hope to eventually get an Asa, but she's now third in priority.

    58. The first BJD I ever wanted was an Iplehouse Notarcana Circus Eva the tightrope walker. However, she was sold out when I got into BJD's again, so.... what I got was the Mortal Lovers pair of Dollmore.

    59. The first doll I ever wanted was a Volks SD Nana back in 2003/4. She wasn't in stock/available at the time but Kira was so I got her instead. I know they're the same sculpt but I really liked Nana's wig better. If I get the chance I would get one again for nostalgia.

    60. I discovered BJDs late in 2014, so not that long ago. Soon after, an Angell-Studio Michael came across my Pinterest feed, so I followed the link and fell in love! He was just so perfect. Even though I kept browsing through hundreds of dolls, I always came back to Michael. When the tax return came in this February, I couldn't pass up the chance to bring him home. He's perfect, I completely adore him! So I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who got the doll I wanted first to be the doll a brought home first.
