More Choa is good Choa, so I've heard. Someone asked over in General Discussion which defunct doll company you'd resurrect and I didn't even have to think for a second. But at the same time, now we have Heavybomb sculpting her own gorgeous dolls instead of painting Unique Ai so I can't complain. -------- Mods notes -------- DoA Wiki: /doawiki/index.php?title=Custom_House Previous discussion thread: * Part 1
It took SEVENTEEN years for us to hit 1000 posts in the old thread. Not sure if vampy Audrey is the best representative of the general Custom House vibe, but I only have the one CH doll to share.
Lovely to see Audrey looking so alluring! Fabulous shoes! Here's a new photo of an old doll! Alicia, the Pink Candy Soye from 2005. Seen here with her original wig and eyes, but without her Pink Candy lolita dress. [
Well, it's true that vampy Audrey is not true to the original CH style! I guess we'll have to post more classic AI dolls! So here is my Unique King of Siam
He has aged beautifully @nancy_schroeder_ca. He is a tan if I remember correctly. @pianissimo, Alicia is still gorgeous after all these years. CH resin really doesn't change much in color over time,
@nancy_schroeder_ca How wonderful to see him again...makes me wonder what happened to all the CH Uniques...I had a Unique Soye back in the day, and managed to snag a Tan Choa in one of the early Sunday morning clickwars. I can't remember the name but she came with a manga book in Korean. Found a pic from 2006 though... I wonder where she is now..?
It’s great to see the old uniques. The original tan dolls had the most buttery smooth resin. I’ve still got my orange tan Ainomori Jun and tan Runaway Bride Cebee. They’re definitely the jewels of my collection.
riversoblood Yes, the old Uniques. oh the runaway bride, she was amazing. The early tans were a fabulous colour. Can't remember the Ainomori Jun offhand, all the old photos have disappeared. The only tan I have is Hook, my other CH dolls are normal skintone, and the early dolls have yellowed but evenly. The version 2 dolls seem to have held their colour okay.
Thank you. Ohhhh, you have Hook? He is AMAZING!! How I wish they had made more of him. My Jun is one of 5 made called the Ainomori Jun 2nd. I don’t have any photos right this second but I see Cynthia in Flinthills posted a picture of one in this post. He’s the handsome tan lad on the right: /posts/1942856/
Hello everyone! Here is my new (to me) girl. I am not sure if she is a Cebee, is anyone able to identify her for me please? Thank you.
@FranC She looks like a Cebee to me. Congrats! She must have an interesting acquisition story if she was unidentified.
Thank you! Not much of a story, I was browsing eBay and there she was, starting bid a dollar. I bid late, and high, and she was mine for much less than I was willing to pay.
@FranC, congratulations on getting that sweet CH girl! A friend showed me the auction while it was active, and tempting though it was, I passed. Hopefully we'll get to see more pics of her here on DoA -- pretty please!
Wow, a Cebee starting at a dollar! How times have changed. Looks like she's still got her original face-up, too.
There is a Haute Doll Cebee currently on ebay I've been watching. Checking for info I've learned they were white resin dolls which helped me curb my temptation as I've kept my collection under control by not adding white resin dolls. (Mostly!!) But also while researching I'm noticing that it seems the Haute Doll version had more open eyes? The photos for her are very different from the one FranC posted. Otherwise my resin rule might have gotten tossed out the window! Anyway, curious if anyone remembers more about the original release of this version. And again the price she's posted for is a far cry from the original release price. :0
I replaced my Unique Ai Choa with an Haute Doll Choa because I wanted a different face-up and there was no difference in the sculpt. The resin was of slightly lesser quality. As far as I recall that was the only change. I'm not sure I still have the issue of Haute Doll in which they were featured, but I will take a look around when I can.
Thanks! This doll is with its box, & looks to have the original faceup. But I'd swear the eye openings look larger (besides having really big eyes in). Its just a detail I was trying to understand as I love the look of FranC's doll but this one seems to have eyes shaped more like my Sia...perhaps it was a matter of the master having been resculpted. [And, perhaps in a world where we could meet & compare dolls irl, I'd discover that they are the same eyes & its just the angle of the photo that's confusing me... ;} ]
It is crazy how much camera angle & faceups can change how a sculpt looks. Other cebees just have a different look to me from the Haute doll version but that may just be how the eyeliner was painted.
I just glanced at the Haute doll Cebee ebay listing and she looks like I expect a Cebee to look. My Cebee has a Custom Faceup though so I guess I'm used to seeing them with a different style than CH had them.
malvinas, she's fabulous! My Sia has an Angeltoast faceup...which was part of her charm when I found her fs. If the Cebee on eBay looked like yours already I would have quit being practical & snapped her up already. ;} But Choa & Sia don't get enough of my time already. So I should pay attention to them first. ╮(^▽^)╭
Actually, I bought her. I maybe shouldn't have, but how often do you see a Cebee? Also, she'll be a nice sibling for my Chamomile boy.
I have a Cebee and a Hyun, they're hitting their 10 year mark this year! I'll have to take a picture of them sometime to mark the occasion I remember looking at the release history of the Unique Ai back in the day and feeling like it was some of the greatest artistry in the hobby, CH really set the standard!
I love the delicate style of the CH SD body. And I love visiting here where folks remember more of the early CH days as I only discovered them as CH was vanishing.
@cthulhu you should share pictures of your Sia with AT faceup! Both of my CH dolls (Cebee and Hyun) have AT faceups. I'm considering having them redone in the near future though since they've had the same faceups for over 11 years now. I think they deserve an update!
Ah, she's here and she's so pretty! I did change out her eyes and wig. And the owner who sent her I guess didn't understand her little top cause she was just zipped into her jacket. She definitely smells like she's been in storage for a while. But also, I'd forgotten she has little teeth. Adorable!
Ah, DraloreShimare...if there had been a photo like yours I wouldn't have been able to resist her! But it seems she's found a good place to settle. My Choa has the teeth as well.
Yeah, the pictures were incredibly unflattering! I just had a thought that I could repaint her if it was messed up. But she is actually mint as stated! I'm so happy to have her.
My Hyun and Cebee have officially been with me for 10 years! They arrived to me on or around March 16th, 2012 (RIP my sanity for ever thinking I wouldn't care about exact arrival dates, sighs deeply, now all I have to reference is Facebook photos for most of my dolls ). Here's my girl sporting her half-done faceup missing lip finish and all semblance of eyelids and lashes, but humid climate, c'est la vie, hopefully she's still as cute to you all as she is to me. Her name is Margo! Margo by Jules B, on Flickr
@DraloreShimare they're so lovely! But I get the feeling they could make a lot of mischief if they wanted to
Haha! Accurate! I've always thought of Aneirin as mischievous, but now that his sister's around, I suspect it's worse. Like she's hammering out that little detail that makes a half-baked idea into a plan...
They are so lovely. Recently I tried to adopt st. Mina from second-hand market, and I’ve been told that some AI dolls have no plate on their head…is this true? Cause I know that there have been many bootleg St. Mina heads sold before.
My Chamomile doesn't have a plate at all. I will admit I haven't looked at my other two recently to remember. XD
Absolutely true; I have three St. Minas. A lot of the older dolls just don't have headplates. Does the one you're looking at have the original faceup?
Hi, everyone. I just got my first CH Choa and am over the moon! I think she's drop-dead gorgeous. But I can't figure out when she was made and I want to know. Her box says Ai on it and she came with her certificate but no date. Any tips gratefully received.
@jenthered Dating is easier with photos of course~ The body type will narrow it down between early and later releases. And the faceup could make it either a "standard", "limited" or "unique" Choa release. Did she come with any sort of outfit or anything?
The last time I bought dolls from Custom House directly was when they were winding down in 2011. @idrisfynn is correct pictures and details of your doll may help people estimate a date.
Thanks so much. I messaged the seller on eBay who said that she's 2003 or 5, but closer to 5, probably, which qualifies her as an early doll. She came with four outfits, including one from Japan dealer, etc...and two wigs and I just love her!
@jenthered is the seller sydney2dolls? If so, I definitely saw that Choa and she's quite amazing with those early CH "angry" brows! Congrats on your new girl!
Yes, she was. I've bought several dolls from her. A much-recommended seller. Except that I want all of her dolls, LOL! Thank you! I'm kinda over the moon on her. Such a pretty girl and so...her own doll, if you will. I will, if I can remember how, LOL! It's been so long since I've done very much here...but it's still the best place in town, so to speak. I'm gong to make myself remember!
Hello all! I have recently fallen in love with Custom House Shaman Varim (pray for me!). I know she will probably never come up for sale, but I will leave my WTB up hopelessly for eternity In the meantime, does anyone happen to have any photos of this rare gem? I would love to oggle them. Thank you!
