Well, this. I'm in complete agreement!! Maybe a poll is in sight? I seem to see a lot of things recurring, and maybe if there were one, the results would be more condensed ^ ^
I Think I have quite a list. -White Skinned Dolls. I personally own two White Skinned dolls, and one (Dollzone Wing Elf) has yellowed to a beautiful cream color. However, my Minifee Shiwoo sometimes looks ghostly with his paper white resin. It's like, if I want him to have a darker face up (which he does), he looks way too Gothic. If I want him to have a lighter face up, he looks washed out and sickly. There's virtually no middle ground. -Rushed Vampire Faces. Ok, so everyone wants a doll with vampire teeth, or has had one with vampire teeth. I personally cannot stand the dolls with teeth that look like they've been glued to the dolls face as an afterthought. "Oh, we might not sell this doll as well as our others, let's glue unrealistically large teeth to his face!" They just look gross. -Anorexic looking bodies. I'm not sure how this trend started (possibly with more people dressing their male dolls in female clothing?) I understand that with some characters you need small frail looking bodies, but I feel like more and more companies are coming up with these anorexic unhealthy bodies. Personally, if I saw someone that skinny walking down the street, I'd be tempted to take them out for McDonalds or something. -Buggy Doll Eyes. Usually this is human error, but it's still something that turns me away from certain sculpts. Ever go on the Gallery page and click a thread only to see 0.0 staring at you? It's the bug eyes, like the eyes weren't positioned correctly so now this doll is forever eating into your soul. It really turns me off of some pretty dollies, just because it gives me the creeps!
I concur on too skinny (unless there are artistic reasons, and it's well done... otherwise, eh) and buggy eyes! Eek. -Falling into the "too skinny" category, sort of, is when the head is too obviously out of proportion to the body. I've seen so many dolls with such skinny shoulders that they look like bobbleheads. And I have to say that I appreciate a nice, realistic body. -The boob thing for me too. D: I understand why it could be popular, but the cartoonish look of a lot of doll breasts really turns me off, which is why I usually love small-breasted dolls (the temptation to make the breasts mysteriously spherical and caricaturesque must go away somewhat with small breasts?) -HUGE eyes. I like big eyes as much as the next person, but HUGE anime-like eyes I never could get into. Weirdly, they creep me out in daylight far, far more than a realistic doll staring at me from my desktop at midnight ever will. -Hands with weird positions. My first doll was a Luts/CP Lishe, and one of her default hands was a fist with just her pinky sticking out, and I looked at it for ages, couldn't for the life of me understand why she couldn't have just had a normal relaxed hand, and proceeded to hide it in every photo of her I ever took. I guess I'd avoid any body attributes that aren't useful for all purposes when buying (closed eyes, vampire teeth, elf ears... things I can love on other people's dolls, not really on my own), but I just remember the hands that bothered me for years.
can't say anything about ugly boobs, because I only own one female doll which I got second hand and her previous owner reduced hers so that they'll look very natural. :3 But I don't like it when the size of the doll doesn't fit with the planned character. (for example I loved the old slim Supia Body but then I found out it was bigger than my Daphne's Angel of Dream body.) I rather liked the art body and Mikhaila, but I didn't like the controversy about whether Leeke stole the design or not. :/ I don't like too big heads either. I prefer 8-9 inch heads or smaller. Another turn-off: when the dolls are very expensive and the company doesn't offer layaway -> not cool. and the last one is probably stupid but I don't like it when I cannot make a decision about whether I want a doll with or without face-up and I end up thinking and brooding... that's probably my biggest turn off besides the size. I think buying a (luxury) doll should be a light, cheerful action. ^^
Probably my biggest turn off is when I can't see the doll in the nude without face up..I remember hearing in the beginning of the hobby don't choose a doll because you like the eyes it has in the picture or it's face up or the wig or clothes because you might not be able to get it exactly like that. I like getting a chance to look at the head really look at it, the body, the posabillity owner pictures the whole shebang. Probably what turns me off a company more is if they don't have those types of picture's up specifically if I can't see the body. How am I gonna know if I like the thing if I can't see the body? The head I can deal with but if I HATE how the body looks then forget it. EDIT: Another is if I'm looking at an elf eared doll there's a certain style of ear I prefer. I don't like super super long elf ears because I am terrified I'll buy one and the head will arrive with a broken or chipped ear.
Pet peeves about other people's dolls? I don't usually stop to think about it, because looking for things to be annoyed about is like picking a psychic scab. Entertaining for a bit, but ultimately poitless, and will probably leave an ugly mark. But, let's see, offhand.... putting beards on prettyboy faces (unintentional dragking look)... big black studded J-rock platform boots worn with, like, Bermuda shorts and a white hoodie (those boots are cheap so you see em misused a lot)... and doll sculpts that have way too much chin (I get that it imitates manhwa & other comic styles, but in 3D doll form it bothers hell out of me). I agree with this-- makes me roll my eyes every time I hear someone complain about young faces with muscular bodies on grounds of 'reality'. In reality, I have known plenty of baby-faced musclemen: college athletes who get musclebound before they lose their babyfat, highschool jocks who bloom earlier than the other boys, and some grownups who just have really boyish faces & don't wear beards. Cuteness may be considered a liability on macho men, but this doesn't change the fact that there is a lot of beefy youth out there. Perhaps it's all the hormones in the McDonald's, who knows. My 15-year-old godchild just joined his school wrestling team, and he's got his woobie freshman face & a big square sturdy body like an Iplehouse JID. ^^ Minus the idealized sculptural details, of course, but still a burly chibi. (But I also agree that those Minifees, in particular, are a bit intense. A strong build is one thing, but those guys are crazy. ;; Who's been spiking those kids' milk & cookies with amphetamine-and-steroid cocktails?)
You guys are awesome Let's see, I'm kinda picky about my dolls and doll bodies.... - Noodle limbs. Limbs that look like a tube that's been hacked into pieces, had joints slapped on and has virtually no definition. Noodle bodies are also out. Curves are sexy! - 'Plate' joints. Joints that only look good when your doll is standing/laying poker straight. This includes limbs and torsos. I can't see the appeal. Unfortunately, this seems to be becoming a trend. - Torsos with very limited posing abilities. Like underbust joint only bodies. It usually ends up looking like the doll has a rod shoved up their derrière most of the time. Human bodies just don't work that way; There's something called a 'spine'. - Unnatural /saggy boobs. Boobs that look like they've been pasted on by someone who only has a basic grasp of female anatomy. Saggy boobs, because, let's face it. Unless your doll lounges around in the nude 24/7, you'd want her to look like she's wearing a bra, right? - Super pointy nipples. Nipples that look like those of someone who's been tossed buck-naked into the arctic sea during winter. - Tiny eyes. Eyes that are just unnaturally small. Eyes that are too large and super round aren't much better. I dunno, I find them creepy. - The over abundance of 'ripped' male doll bodies. Guys that look like they could grate cheese on their abs. Nicely toned is just fine, thanks. - Bad pictures. If I can't see a doll's/body's features well enough, I'm probably not going to be bothered. I need to see blank, straight on, profile, limbs bending, etc. If parts of it are obscured or the pictures are too 'artsy', then I'll assume that there's something that they don't want me to see, and I'll look elsewhere. I'm sure I could go on and on...
I've quite a few: Limited dolls, that they don't have nude option and the outfit is more expensive than the doll itself, free faceups but no option (which is understandably common), one pair only of skinny hands, flat feet, hip width and belly width on older dolls are the same, too tiny noses, exorbitant shipping prices for small things like eyelashes xD. I'm sure I'll think of more on my way to bed haha
I have a few. 1) pointy nose with a skinny bridge...I think they're too fake 2) big dolls with a chubby baby face. I expect bigger dolls to look mature, and chubby faces just don't work. 3) really skinny boys. I like my big boys muscular and my small boys chubby! 4) dolls that look too realistic or too fake? I don't know how to explain this but...If dolls have a perfect human face then I find it kills the beauty of dolls, but I also don't like it if they're too anime-like, with pointy chins and noses ans such, since BJDs are supposed to be more realistic than that? So I look for ones that are in the middle.
Biggest doll turn offs in my opinion are: Knee and Elbow Joints - When they bend and they look so awkward and unnatural... Bobble Heads - Examples include Minimee heads and Mini Dollfie Dreams (certain heads look fine, but others just don't)
I don't think I've seen anyone mention turn offs in anthro dolls - personally I don't like it if the face is too realistic or humanish. If it's supposed to be an anthro animal I like it to be closer to a cute cartoon than a real animal. Hence I also prefer anthro dolls with chubby babyish bodies moreso than muscular, human-like bodies.
My dislikes: 1. Snow white skin, is just kind of creepy to me. Though a lot of people must like it because almost all companies offer it. 2. Turned up, cutesy wootsy noses. I am searching for dolls with perfectly straight noses and perfect realistic profiles. I HAVE a pug nose, I don't want dolls with one! 3. Excessively muscled stomachs, I have never seen anyone with a perfect eight pack, it's just too unrealistic and yet almost all male dolls have it. 4. Big sticking out type ears. 5. Unnatural breasts, anti-grav, or spheres, nipples that are excessively pointed. 6. Ugly hands with insufficient detail, sausage fingers, hands that are not in a natural relaxed pose. I wish the companies offered a greater variety of hands, in different poses, too. I want a tea cup holding doll! 7. Unnatural proportions. Where can I get a doll with wide shoulders and a narrow waist like a normal 18 year old boy? The dolls are either way too skinny or super muscular, with disproprtionately long legs, or oversized heads or huge feet or something. Has anyone ever considered catching a real human being with ideal proportions, measuring them and then just doing the math to make a perfectly scaled, proportionate doll? Okay, that turned out to be kind of long.... but I ask you, now that we have all listed our pet peeves, the diverse reasons that we would NEVER buy certain types of dolls...how do we get doll companies to listen to us?
Given a doll fits into my rigid 1/6 size requirments, with adults 27cm and children proportioned to match, my turn off is unhappy expressions. Nuetral to cheerful preferred. While Plantdolls 27cm girls fit the size requirment they look really unhappy. I might be interested in Aqua if her tail connected a bit higher up. Having a hole there is kind of creepy.
Pointy anime noses, eyes that are overly disproportionate, eyes that are too close together, lips that are too wide/too narrow, most painted on facial hair, Dollmore Lusion-esq. lips, giant anime elf ears, long hair on male dolls, mature MSDs, too-long legs, short upper arms, "mysterious" looking SDs, sausage fingers, chocolate bar abs and slab-rectangle pecs...oh dear thats a long list I'm just going to stop now! My aesthetics are pretty fluid so i doubt many of these will stick hahaha...
Definitely too big boobs, I'm disappointed that some of the Asian doll producers see the need to make the boobs bigger than what they were. Large thighs also as mentioned above, these should be in proportion to body size but not so perfect that they look unnatural. While I appreciate many art forms I just don't take to gore. My two cents for what its worth.......
I have to say, I'm really not a fan of droopy eyes. Dolls that look half asleep just aren't my thing, I guess.
I think my biggest turn off is teeth and not the cute little vampire teeth on the lower lip. I just think that open mouth and teeth just can ruin a beautiful face, most bjd's faces are so small that the teeth to me look like a odd white gap and it just makes me crazy! I have heard of people who can mod their dolls lips shut which could be interesting. My other big turn off is where the head meets the neck, and it might bother me a lot because I have this problem with my boy, I just hate it when the neck seems too long or too wide for the head. I have a lot of other small things that I dislike, but those are my biggest two.
Fur wigs, I just can't stand them. And the baby-faces on very adult bodies. Other than that, I really like strangely shaped and unusual looking dolls hah.
LOL! This is great thread! Turn-offs - Too realistic. I found that out when I bought a Sard and he sat in his box under my bed for something like 4 years before I finally decided the bragging rights to owning a Sard did not out weigh the money I could get for selling him... -Ugly joints. I can't stand an ugly joint. It's something I have a hard time getting past. Especially if it's a joint that shows, like the elbow. The Kid Delf elbows bother the everlovinghell out of me because there is a huge shelf left at the elbow break. It IS possible to make an attractive elbow peanut! No do it! That goes for too many torso joints, or joints that make weird poky bits at the breaks. -Lazy sculpting. Anytime something looks half finished or undone- be it a body with zero detail and weird boobs, or lazily sculpted hands I want a doll that has some defined anatomy. I don't care if clothes are going over it, I still know what;s under there. - I will also second everyone who said crappy vampire teeth. -Ugly face sculpts. I'm sorry- some of the cheaper doll companies just have poor sculpting. Eyes too close together, weird lips, etc... There are plenty of ways of making disproportion attractive.
I had been searching for a BJD for years and I've been incredibly picky. There's little things that'll make me say no to a doll right away. I feel bad for saying that but yeah... - I'm super picky with a doll's mouth. I notice quite a few dolls have these wide mouths...they almost look like frogs! OAO;; worse if its like a wide frown too. I also don't like those open mouths that look like a fishy face. *U3U* yeah i just prefer a simple smile. and...well also, NO TEETH PLEASE. teeth gross me out irl. so i'd prefer not to see them on dolls. - this may sound weird but... jointed hands. I DO understand how NEAT jointed hands can be, but it looks creepy to me with all those tiny holes in them. ;3; -...ummm, details on the 'nether regions'. ;u; maybe im a newbie to BJDs still, but I don't really...understand the purpose for that. I don't need them to prove if if my doll's a girl or boy. I hope I wasn't sounding offensive there. ;A;
Open-mouthed dolls. I just don't like them I think they are weird looking, even with a good faceup! I prefer shallow lips... The Soom Monthly Limited Series. There is a doll that I would pay whatever the cost for, and I would offer it to SOOM, but they would probably turn it down because its discontinued doll, even if I beg. /cry
My number one turnoff about dolls? Probably the cost. They are super expensive, but they can be soooo worth it! My other turnoff is how small the audience is. I never even knew about bjd's until over a year ago. I live under a rock, but still, I have no idea how I could have missed this! I feel like more people should know about ball jointed dolls, if not actually owning one. More none-bjd owners need to get involved. I am trying to get my best friend to help me with crafting xD
Have you tried the Gi Joe or Hot Toys 1/6 clothes on the YOSD boys? A lot of Gi JOe stuff seems to fit my YO boys. I personally dislike vampire fangs on dolls in general... I have a vampire character on the way who'se gonna be a YOSD... I've never drawn him or imagined him with his fangs sticking outside of his lips... that looks like a dingo to me, not a vampire.. or worse... an orc. Fangs stay insde the mouth, and in my opinion any vampire who flashes their fangs around like a set of diamonds was an idiot person when they were alive, and continues to be an idiot in undeath. Obsessing over fangs by putting them on the outside of the dolls lip is just tacky; showing off that it's a vampire to other people... I can understand if the mouth is totally open and ALL front teeth are visible, but having fangs to 'prove' a character's a vampire is as silly as saying a penis proves it's male. (or proves a person is male for that matter..) This of coarse doesn't count if your idea of fangs literally is that they are so foreward in the mouth that they stick out.
My main problem is choosing the best doll to buy. I can get really frustrated with that because I can afford only one at a time. Also, makeup is like really important. Bad makeup can make me skip the otherwise beautiful doll. And why so many skinny bjd bodies? Most slim dollies, 1/3 sized at least, look very unnatural to me. Add silicon boobs and voila. I have never even seen a chubby natural body -_- .. Is there even any?
- Extremely happy face. Sometimes it scares me. - Anime-like - Pointy lips. Not the expression, but the shape. It's hard to explain, when you look from above they look like a "V" - I can't stand it. - Any limited I'll never have...
Single biggest turn-off for me: -Snotty/stuck-up/"I'm better than everyone" expression My Soom Obsidius (Romantic, human head w/ Soom face-up) was absolutely gorgeous, except he had the expression I described above. It might be the wig/eyes I had bought for him, because I've seen other Obsidius' that look wonderful. Or maybe I should have tried the OE version instead. I just felt like if he could talk, the first thing that would come out of his mouth would be "I'm too sexy for my shirt..." He just had to go because I couldn't stand his expression!
I think I may never get Iple kind of sculpts. Very realistic dolls just don't suit well with my crew. It's not really a turn off, but it's not something I will ever consider getting.
-I think my biggest turn off on dolls is when the nose is too pointy, too curved at the bridge, to skinny, or...well...I'm REALLY REALLY particular about noses. Too big, too small, too skinny, to point. I like cute little noses that are natural looking. -UNREAISTIC JOINTS -when the eyes are too "fishy" (too far apart) -When the boobs look way too fake. (looks like they have like invisible ultra push up bras or the way that the chateau's boobs look, it makes me think of like really really old indian or like.. not indian.. but some sort of ancient shaman with doctor type of thing and it literally disgusts me) -Eyes are too big and un-natural (some exceptions) -SUPER baby cheeks unless that's what i'm looking for. i absolutely HATED that mnfs have it, but it seems recently they've been reducing the amount of pudgy in the cheeks and since i wanted a MNF that's the main draw that pulled me to Chloe and Mirwen. -Weird lips -When faces CAN'T look like they make different expressions no matter how you do the face up. (Mikhaila for example) -poor proportions I have too many turn-offs... But at least i do have exceptions..for..some of them. I mostly like things to look realistic, but not TOO realistic, since i do like the doll appeal.
Sad faces. I won't even give them a second glance. I just can't stand staring at their sullen expressions for more than a few seconds, there is no way I could look at them regularly. Dolls with severely exaggerated hips also bother me. I'm not sure what inspired them, but I imagine dressing them is a pain in the arse. I don't mind fantasy dolls with strange proportions, but if it's meant to be humanoid and you've made its backside way too big for the rest of it, I'll pass. Also, dolls that look like they have broken necks if you turn the head at all. I see owner photos of stuff like this all the time and it would drive me completely batty to not be able to pose my doll's head at all without it looking like their neck was broken in a horrible accident. It just looks so bad to me.
I don't like it when dolls have black dots in the corners of their mouths. It's a huge turn off for me but luckily that can be avoided with a custom face up. However, one thing that I can't stand is when a doll has sculpted holes in the corners of their mouth. What the hell are they for?? I really don't get it, and no matter what kind of faceup they have..the damn holes are still there! I can never unsee the hole. I don't like huge eyes..you know the kind that take up half the face. Nope, can't do it. Such a big turn off. However, I don't mind large expressive eyes when done right.
I am incredibly sculpt picky, not just with head sculpts, but more so with body sculpts. A small list of things that will always turn me off to a doll: - an anime aesthetic (huge eyes, tiny pointed nose, small mouth) - when the head is too big for the body - sad or overly expressive faces - female body sculpts where the bust is wider then the hips - big boobs - buff male bodies
My major turn off is that there are times when I think that the male dolls look like females without those female properties. The "alien" body sculptures on some dolls that makes me think..."If the doll was a human person how can they function and move?", the twig limbs, some faceups that just frightens me like some of the dolls ebay pictures freaks me out. And my last BIGGEST TURN OFF is finding clothes for my doll because I modded her implants on her chest so the measurements has to be everything before I order.
Ah, I also have a tiny list of turn-offs: - childish bodies - I really dislike any childish dolls whatsoever, and I find the chubby bodies awful. - straight legs and no waist - to me, if a doll has straight legs, it's ugly. I love the slightly curved, Asian-like legs :3 Also, a doll should have a distinct waist area and wider hips :3 - anime-like faces - small nose, small lips and big eyes? No way. I prefer the more realistic dolls. - badly shaped boobs - I don't mind it if they look like there's an invisible push-up bra involved (like MNFs or Withdoll girls), as long as the boobs don't look like halves of a melon glued to the chest. I'm also more inclined to like an invisible push-up than saggy little breasts (like DollChateau, even though the body's aesthetic is very interesting). There might be some other, less important things... But those four are the most likely to make up my mind about not buying a doll.
I like dolls that are bordering on semi-realism. I don't like dolls with overly anime features (huge eyes, small pointy nose and small lips).
Hmm... I'd have to say some dolls' expressions. :/ The combination of -so so- shaped eyes with those lips... It makes me turn away, sadly... Also, for some of them, the price. Recently, I've been looking at some very pretty dolls that are at a fair price range for my situation. Looking back, I was really into DoD dolls (Orrl is so cool!) and now that I see them again, I shake my head and run for the hills. XD Comparing Orrl to another doll I was eying, he was the bigger number of the two, and the other doll was a full set!
-Disproportionate hands, definitely. I have a 5SD Super on layaway, and the only reason I wasn't put off entirely by the small hands was because I want to get jointed hands for him so that I can pose him for photostories. If I hadn't been so in love with him otherwise, the hands might have given me pause. -I agree with the dislike of anime aesthetics. While I am an otaku, I want my dolls to look more realistic - so massive eyes and tiny noses/mouths tend to be offputting. -Massive false-looking breasts, especially since I am trying to shell a couple of female characters who are quite small-chested. I'm not talking near-flat androgyny, but it is so hard to find a nice SD girl who could be slim and athletic, but still have enough bosom to be clearly female. (I hope that makes sense...) -Pronounced nipples. I have one doll who I absolutely adore, but I am seriously thinking about sanding down his nipples so that they're not obvious through tight-fitting clothing. His character is not supposed to feel cold as acutely as humans, so it's ridiculous for him to have nipples that look like he's been shirtless in the snow! (Similar issue with his privates, actually... he wears tights/fitted breeches, and his peen is *ahem* rather obvious. I wouldn't remove it entirely, but I might make it a bit smaller...)
I know this probably sounds unrealistic, but I tend to find something I like in each and every doll that I see. ;x; My partner hates it, specially when I point out dolls I like and they are just like "... really?" XD; If I had to pick, though... -Single Joints. I love my double joints way too much. -Open Mouths. I like some dolls with teeth showing, but not enough to justify me getting any. -Winking dolls. @_@ I want my doll to be able to see with either both eyes, or no eyes. Not in between. That is probably it. XD I like some dolls that are "ugly" because they can suit different characters. I like small noses, big noses, etc. I like the fact that a doll can be happy or sad depending on the face. It, to me, is all about the character. If it is what you enjoy, then go for it. I love seeing what people can do with every doll, so why would I get to be picky? XD
Dolls with duck faces! Really really obvious duck faces!! Especially when the eyes are set too close together, it makes them look like they're hopped up on something :\ And when they have eyes really far apart and really wide noses I also don't like dolls with eyes that are opened too much, it makes them look like they're always surprised to be seeing whatever their looking at...
Usually it's the face that makes me say no to a doll. Noses-They can't be too small or too big; too pointy or too curved. The nose has to match the doll (mostly an opinion thing >.<) Eyes and Lips- I cannot do the anime eyes that are huge, they really freak me out D= and sleeping heads, thought they look great sometimes i just can't imagine getting one... the lips have to be somewhere in between a smile and a smirk I will not have anything to do with teeth or to extreme expressions Hands- As someone said before, jointed hands creep me out; I understand their usefulness but I don't like how it looks; Also, I like hands to be a bit delicate (but proportional) and not too large Body- Most of the things other people have said applies to me as well; Too big thighs, balloon ta-ta's, pear shaped, unproportional, young body/face mix, ugly joints... One thing that really throws me off is that malnurished and starving child body that is so thin that the ribs could double as an instrument. *sigh* Somewhat disturbing... >.< Think that's all for now!
I really hate it when dolls are ruined by an open mouth. If I can see teeth- its a no go. I don't mind little vampire teeth if they are classy, or crazy face molds that include an open mouth is okay if its quirky, but just that open slack jaw. Its terrible. And idk why but I dislike closed eyes.
Although I do like all dolls and would never dis anyones doll I personally don't like the really tiny dolls. I'm also not particularly fond of the dolls with the thin faces and long thin noses, its sort of off putting to me. I'm also not fond of the 'anime' dolls; don't think I'd ever get one of thoes. I don't think I'm particularly picky when it comes to dolls I just choose one that suits what the character should look like.
Ohoho, now, do I have a list of these things? I read through this ENTIRE topic, and I'll TRY to mention points that were not mentioned, at least not so many times that I'd remember. And I apologize for the unawoidable wall of text, I really have the bad habit of rambling.. - The overabundance of pretty faces. I have a LOT of characters and I always want them to look different; some are supposed to be unrealistically pretty and others less so. But.. I'd say that most doll-heads you see around are always sculpted to be REALLY pretty, no matter which gender. I understand if a company wants to have a couple really pretty faces, but do they ALL have to look like gorgeus goddesses and gods? Especially Soom and Luts are guilty of this. |D I have a few pretty-faced dolls already, I don't need more. - The almost character-less facial features. I reeeally like dolls with huge, angular noses, semi-large eyes and a natural-looking mouth. All these almost invisible mouths, nonexistant chins as well as small, straight and thin noses drive me up the walls! I like heads in which I can recognise it's character without it even having a face-up, eyes nor a wig. Iplehouse-heads are something I really like, ah, those gorgeous Roman noses~. I still wish to find a nice head with a fleshy nose. VuV But this doesn't mean I like the unnatural, overexaggerated facial characteristics ether! Those glazed, huge anime eyes and mouths that reach from one ear to the other just aren't for me.. OH. And also, has anyone noticed how almost all BJDs have a MASSIVE overbite? Just imagine a skull and teeth inside your dolls head, would the teeth be even close to meeting? I know most of mine aren't. |D Well, luckily that's not really much of a turn-off for me. I can live with it as long as t's not on one of my really masculine characters. x'D - TONGUES ON A DOLL. No, I just--, ev, gahhh.. Sorry, I just really dislike tongues in general, and if the doll has a visible tongue, I am likely not to want it. The only exception to this is if I think I can sand the tongue off and the head is othervise perfect for a character. |D I don't mind visible teeth though.. I quite like that slightly open-mouthed look if it suits the character. I know even I tend to slightly droop my mouth open so that my upper front teeth tend to rest on my lower lip, like with a rabbit or something. x'D - Anatomical inaccuracy. Be it too short arms or too long torso, I just can't live with it. Though my biggest annoyance is when the heads are of a wrong shape. Especially when the small is really small and then there's this HUGE alien-like forehead and the doll looks just like those creatures from the Star Trek TOS pilot-episode, Talosians. O^O Hair covers it up on most parts, but what if the doll does not have hair, like Anthro dolls? Especially with those I am often bothered by the heads. ;A; Also I've seen some dolls that have the face's proportions so wrong.. Like ears too low/high. That's just so annoying to fix yoursel and I just can't stand dolls having ears in the wrong spot. >A< - Single- or overall not-too-flexible joints. I am more than ready to sacrifice appearance for movability. I would not go as far as that Dikadoll-body with like 5 torso-joints (At least not now.) but I can live with a bit angular-looking joints if it adds to the range of poses, nothing that clothes can't cuver up, or at least that a computer can't fix! Jointed hands? I love them. They may look awkward, but all the poses. If a body does NOT have double joints everywhere and at least one joint on the torso, I am likely not to want it. That is also my only big turn-off with Iplehouse bodies; the single-jointed knees. - All this EVERY BOY MUST BE MUSCULAR AND GIRLS PRETTY-craze. It's just.. How many boy-bodies can you find without visible abs? Or how many girls do you see WITH abs? Especially with SD-sized men this is a real dilemma for me; I can find more than enough gorgeous muscular bodies for my muscular man characters, but when I wish to have a less-fit character? Nothing, nowhere. But luckily there is sand-paper.. Nothing that I can't just sand off even if it's an awful lot of work. And I'd also love to see really chubby SD-dolls, in both genders. Why are all doll-bodies so.. So 'perfect' when I want something 'imperfect'? ;u; I want my pot-bellied characters as dolls too. ;A; Right now, I already have most of my muscular characters, but only two of my non-muscular ones (And both are little girls) have their right bodies, if that gives you some scale of the situation. >>' - Dolls that look like me. Yeaah. Someone mentioned this. And it's so true. I just have trouble bonding with girl-dolls that have a rounded face and tiny mouth like mine, a babyface. I don't mind it on a guy, but on a GIRL? Ironically though.. I do have a few characters like that. But two of them are supposed to be kids anyways. And the rest are supposed to be chubby. - No blank photos not profile view of a head. Like I mentioned earlier, I want heads to lok like it's character before it's even been given a face-up or anything. And I also have this obsession for noses; no profile view of the nose, no deal. Actually, I have even decided to get certain dolls, based purely on how AMAZING the nose looked! XD Also, ears are something I want to see. Sure, they can be modded to your tastes, but still. Certain doll-ears that I've seen have just been so sloppy and looked swollen. I just can't-.. Then I also agree with all the talk about the silicone-loving ladies and last-minute vampire teeth that rest on the lip like the Vampire should be a toddler who's finally losing his milk-teeth.. Soom Gluino actually had quite nice vampire teeth, but then in his case the mouth was always open, which was awkward as well. XDD But that's enough for now. XDD I could come up with more, but those are my worst annoyances. =u= I hope I didn't detour from the topic too much in my rambles. : o But let's see if anyone agrees with me or if I'm just a weirdo. 8'D
I think doll teeth (excluding fangs) are just creepy. Also on my list of deal-breakers: Unattractive joints Scowling (not cute!) An upper lip that is sharp like two triangles (creepy)
I'm getting an unpleasant mental image from this. I'd say my turn-off is lack of variety. I likely have at least one doll with a feature someone here has mentioned hating. But I like to see a little of just about everything in my collection--various joint types, open eyes, half-closed eyes, winking eye, big boobs, small boobs, tall, short, skinny, muscular, teeth showing, or not, happy, sad, dark, light, etc... So, hopefully, I'll have a model ready for any photo concept. Plus, they're just fun.
I also have a long list I don't really like super skinny girls or girls with a tiny hip that makes her shoulders look big. haha (this is what I don't really like about my body as well) and yeah I don't like huge boobs either!
1. Open mouth/showing teeth. They seem so expressionless and it just bothers me so much. It's like that face people make when they watch television. Open mouth and bland. 2. Boys. I have yet to see a boy that actually interests me for longer than 5 minutes. I get over them way too fast. Meh. 3. Too thick of bodies. I like my girls to be very thin. Thicker bodies creep me out.
Laughing dolls annoy the crap out of me. And any doll dressed up as a clown. I don't play around with clowns.
the list starts with: 1) screaming expression (I call it) -,- with wide open mouth, closed eyes!! like really!! 2) dolls with childish face YET huge boobs!! I don't want to get started with this! it's just disgusting -,- 3) very pale white skin WITH bad face up 4) boobs that are: perfectly round and look STONE hard/ SMALL that look like early teen years boobs/ WIDE apart (basically anything that does NOT look normal)
Dolls with teeth is a huge no-no for me. The same with dolls with open mouths/tongues sticking out etc. I just find it horribly off-putting.
Latefa That doll scares the crap out of me, I am sorry to anyone who had this sculpt, but I wouldn't let it into my home Each to their own I guess...
Long, thin longs/arms, Squinty eyes, and thin faces. Doll Chateau is pretty much everything I detest in a doll. I generally pay more attention to faces over bodies, so body issues I generally ignore. Long spindally limbs is something I get get over. It makes the doll look like he/she is anorexic. *shudder*
