I just received a 2015 Tan IpleHouse Leona as a gift and had no idea her condition until she was home. Shes 100% legit, Box, papers, certificate. But her condition was pretty bad. Shes discolored all over and her face is pretty bad but I'm not sure whats paint stain or resin discoloring? Than she has these horrible scratches on her arms and legs, and those are something I really dont want to attempt sanding :\ if I'm honest I figured id turn them into scars, but idk. I want to give her an OxiClean Bath so freaking bad and at this point I figured what the heck would it hurt? (so I'll probably do it). But I am so curious on how Tan deals with an Oxi Bath, I see posts about how you need to be careful cause you dont want to damage the resin, but no post about results. Im also tempted to dye her but could I do that AFTER she goes through an Oxi Bath? I am happy to say I still have the little IpleHouse stamp for her head, I'm excited to put it back on once shes all cleaned and put together Update: 4 days worth of Cleaning and it seems like her face will remain hazy. If her lady parts look weird its cause I pretty much had to reconstruct them from previously being covered in apoxie. I'm pretty Sure I want to dye her at some point (Got to find someone within my budget or who really wants to experiment lol), curious what kind of dye colors would take well? I'll hopefully figure out what kind of character she'll/they'll be, a warrior perhaps.
Oxyclean does funky things to tan. I've used oxygen bleaching to yellow some new tan hand-parts to match the condition of an older tan doll, and in addition to speed-aging the resin, it leaves a whitish haze that has to be scrubbed off with abraisives. The white on her face looks like it might be botched sealant, especially with how it's puddled in her ears. I would try going at it with a Magic Eraser and a solvent like isopropyl alcohol. If that doesn't work, and it's hazy from having been sanded, you should be able to polish it out with an abrasive paste like Novus plastic polish (or baking soda plus water, but that's a softer compound so it takes longer).
Iplehouse tan is very prone to showing this ghosty haze when you try to clean it. It also really shows sanding marks, I just had that issue with my light brown tan Tedros when I had to start his faceup again. All of a sudden I was able to see where they had sanded away the casting gates, even though before it wasn't visible. So in case of the face, you need to make sure it's really really clean. I usually use 95-99% isopropyl and a magic eraser, as well as a toothbrush for the deep bits. Make sure to rinse regularly with water. Afterwards you might have to buff the surface a bit, since microscratches usually are the reason why dark surfaces appear light. After sealing the heads usually look pretty even again, and with some blushing it's fine then. The other marks...honestly, it looks a bit like a dog "played" with it, but there aren't any bite marks. As it is though, those are some really deep scratches. You can try dipping it into boiling water first and hope it pops up a bit again (if it's just pushed in, not scratched out). Otherwise, sanding those away would mean you'd need to take off a lot of material. Filling it up with something like apoxie sculpt or milliput is the better option, then a bit of sanding. Tint the clay before to a color close ish to the doll. Do not use oxi, that's not going to do anything to help you with your issues it's overall not that great for plastics (even within retro console circles its debated whether it's not more harmful to the plastics in the long run), and its only use is in removing yellowing on formerly white pieces. Everything else, and it isn't very helpful. Adding: I have to admit the marks do look very much like self-harm scars, both the look and placement. I am not sure what the former owner did with the doll, but they are definitely not scratches that just "happen". This looks very deliberate to me
Poor thing. Looks like a cat got her or somehow she was dragged across concrete. Hope you manage to sort her.
Poor thing. it looks like someone has been over zealous removing her factory face up, They are horrible to remove and can end up cloudy but it can be covered with a new face up. good luck
Re: the faceup: what Ara said. Re: the scratches: heck, give her a backstory that includes an accident that left her scarred for life...which in her case is only the truth. Any residual differences in the faceup can be explained away by the same story.
Thats probably the most helpful thing someone has said regarding the bath and tan resin Her Face was covered in white acrylic (Im assuming) paint when I got her. Shes on her 4th cleaning now, and I pretty much use everything under the sun. I normally find Doll cleaning to be a bit therapeutic but this girl really takes the cake. Her Lower region was probably the worst cause the former owner had put apoxie over her private parts to make it smoother and her hip joints were filled with what appeared to be dried wall putty. And I dont doubt they were meant to look like self harm scars, but thats a subject I'm not going to cross with the previous owner, when I get her cleaned further (I hope) I will definitely try the boiling method in hopes it'll smooth em out, even by a lil. This girl was put through the ringer and it seems in turn shes taking me fir a ride with her. I will defiantly try the baking soda method. I never heard of that one being used but it makes sense it would work lol Thats the plan so far Want to get her all cleaned up and fixed up to the best of my ability and Hopefully a story can fall into place for her
Those look to me like self-harm scratches, and if I were the new owner of this doll I would probably leave them as they are because I'd feel superstitious about it, lol! Her previous owner might have been going through a hard time when they did that. May I ask what the Epoxie on her genitals was?
Update, More cleaning and sanding. Decided on modding and loving how its turning out. have plans to dye her a deep red color, kind of demon like. working on making a tail for her thats going to work with a magnet (thus the mark on her tail bone). The self harm marks are very deep and stained somehow in the resin so I was able to clean up most of the rough damage done so at least they are smooth, and the crack in her elbow is finally fully repaired. Also took the opportunity to sand her seem lines. Looking forward to working on her more ^-^
Well the self harm scars are here to stay on her, some were just so deep and stained they refused to go. The previous owner is a dear friend of mine and I'm sure she was sense I know she has scars of her own which she is very self conscious about, So the repair work I see as a way of the scars finally healing sense they would have to be completely covered by apoxie in order to 'remove' them. Her lady part was just made to look flat with apoxie, like a Barbie. I was very glad I was able to remove it without damaging the sculpt underneath
