Maybe a bit more? I know there are several companies with a tan option, though I don't think I could name all of them for you. I think the only ones with more ethnic features would be a couple of Iplehouse tan dolls and one Dollmore one, plus a few artist sculpts (twigling's gorgeous Ylisande and Nkiru (who actually reminds me a lot of someone I went to school with) come to mind). Bobobie does offer a dark tan colour, but it is by special request only (that is, sending them a message that you want a specific mold in dark tan) because of marbling issues and problems with sanding seams on dark tan dolls. That's actually the answer to you last question, too. Tan dolls are harder to make because there's often a problem with the colour marbling or otherwise being uneven. It does happen with other non normal or white skin colours, too, it's just more noticeable in the darker colours such as dark tan, grey or red.
Thanks for the information!! I understand now about the difference in colors. I hadn't noticed until you mentiooned it but those ARE pastel colors versus darker ones!! When I get the nerve, I may try to dye one or two myself. Would anyone know whether rits dye or air brushing are more durable? I assume that both methods require a sealer. What brand seems most durable?(sealer) Thanks!!
Teff - try this thread: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139610 With over 700 posts, it has loads of info on dyeing! Also look for some threads in that subforum by Buff, or a general search for drow -- I don't remember which subforum the examples of the drow dyeing were in, but there are good tips in them too.
I want to put in a word for Angelsdoll, because I have a dark tan Jin and I looooooove her. The skin is a milk chocolate colour, which looks warmer now I've done her faceup, and is a really beautifully even colour, no marbling at all. I love it. They offer all their dolls in dark tan. I'm always wanting to promote this company, because the dolls are as obscure as they are lovely and they deserve to be far better appreciated! Apologies for not having a finished picture, but while she has a face now, she's still waiting on eyes and the right wig. I did put up a blank picture here: here: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5823051&postcount=4 I think the sculpt really can carry off more African heritage; Angela might be a good choice, too.
autumnrain - do you have a link to Angelsdoll? I checked the thread listing all the companies, in the Links-Out subforum, and that company isn't listed.
Just FYI, I posted some pictures over on IpleHouse of my Kamau and Chase, and said that it seems my Kamau just needed someone his size to play with! Their response: Soon, there will be so wonderful partner for Kamau. ^^ I'm GUESSING that means a nice dark brown EID girl! Just a guess, mind you. But... I'm going to be watching...
No happy ones! The parcel on Saturday we went to collect thinking was her eyes was a mug, and then - oh, this is my fault. When I did her face up, I couldn't find my nice brown pastels, so I got my cheap (still chalk) pastels and blended them with my reds and pinks. Brought her down from her shadowy place yesterday, and the cheap browns had already faded out and vanished, leaving a bit of a disastrously harsh mix of pink and red... *cries* Won't have a chance to fix her for ages, and replacing my browns, if I can't find them, means a looooong trip. I still love her more than any other doll.
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that Autumn!! But good things come to those who wait. You will probably have additional inspiration by the time you can get to her!!
hi guys i was wondering if any one knew of a company that did custom sculpts in bark tan or light tan tone?
I love Cocori also as you can see by avatar but they stopped making the dark resin Cocori. I'm thinking of just buying the available Cocori and dyeing her.
Iple told me before Xmas (between October-Nov, can't remember), that they'd re-release her within "The next week" - Several months have passed and she's still not there. Why not ask them if she'll be back up soon
pretty sure BBB/RS (bobobie/resinsoul) does. tinybear/sleepingelf uses them to get her sculpts done. they do dark tan on special request, and light tan normally. they do all sizes of dolls.
Bumping this thread for new and very beautiful Iplehouse Ashanti. http://www.iplehouse.net/shop/step1.php?number=1949 Gorgeous! I really want her, but just bought last month's doll, so don't think I can swing it. : (
Hubby was really impressed on the new Iplehouse Ashanti, but he thought I wanted him to buy her.....maybe he can later, but I doubt he would want to spend that much on these type of dolls again.
I want her SO badly! I'm still trying to figure out if I can afford it... Ack why is everyone releasing gorgeous dolls at the same time? I absolutely love Iple's African sculpts, especially the EIDs... I'm head over heels for Kamau as well. I can only hope they will seasonally re-release these guys... It doesn't seem like many people got the Realskin Kamau last release, I just hope they don't stop offering the option... Not to mention I still need a body for my other tan guy... I hate how expensive colored resin is (even though I understand why, it still stinks for the tan resin lovers XD)
I want her too! I've been hoping they would make a girl just like Ashanti since Jessica was released... so of course they do right after I put a realskin I on layaway with them. Arg. There is no way I can do both right now. Also, here is to hoping they'll make her a little JID sized sister.
I'm really interested in Ashanti and hope that Iplehouse might release Kamau again soon as I'd love to have a partner for her.
I can't wait to see the different face-ups for Ashanti. I asked for a special face-up so hopefully I get it.
I ordered my Ashanti a few days ago. Paid in full. I will post pictures of her later after I get her.
Ashanti IS very impressive & beautiful! On a sidenote: I wish more doll companies offered a wider range of "skin tones" for their resin as a standard option. I'd love to be able to order a doll w/a more realistic skin tone, or at least one closer to my own, without it being a special event.
Belated Easter pictures of my dark aaron - who is now Penelope Cannes (aka Penny), a fabulous drag queen! Another one here!
I LOVE RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE! XD I live near Denver and Nina Flower does appearances in the local gay bars sometimes. I totally wanna bring Penny and show her. XD
I'm in search of an ebony/dark tan male elf doll and I sent Bobobie an e-mail asking if I could get one in dark tan, and they said yes and even quoted me a price Hope that helps
i think all the colors are difficult, but the deeper the color the harder it is to get the resin color even and not have bubbles and stuff. not sure why on the bubbles, but that's what i heard, anyway. but more companies are getting into alternative colors, definitely. i like that bbb/rs have all the colors of the rainbow, and now dikadoll has grey and tan (and i suppose we will see their jointed hands in tan some day soon, at which point i am doomed! because i will need several sets).
I think the problem with deeper colors is not necessarily bubbles in the resin, but marbling and unevenness in the color, as well as the fact that there's a big chance of discoloration with any sanding done. I think all of that stuff actually still happens with the lighter resins, it's just a lot more noticeable in darker colors. nataluna I actually ordered a pair of tan dikadoll hands from mint on card, I can post here when I get them :3
Hi everyone, I have a neophyte question. I'm thinking of getting an iplehouse gentle cocori in normal skin and dying her tan. She comes with eyes and I'm wondering whether you remove the eyes theough the neck or whether they have a head opening on the top?
The top of her head comes off--it's called a headcap. Some dolls have a face-plate instead. Not sure if this has been mentioned yet. but Angelsdoll does two gorgeous tans, medium and dark.
i posted a thread of pics of my doll Mariana. She was originally WS but i dyed her twice and ended up having to paint some parts XD but i'm happy with her http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...y-Children-(BBB-Apollo-dyed-RS-Mei)&p=6476255 overall is was relatively inexpensive to dye her too
There's a light Cocori for sale. The theme is Swan Lake. I'm surprised since Iplehouse recently told me they had no plans to release Cocori again, and that none of the black dolls would come in brown anymore. Only ebony. I'm going to stop believing anything companies tell me. Here she is: http://www.iplehouse.net/shop/step1.php?number=829
The actual message from Iple was: Iplehouse Aaron and Cocori Seasonally Out of Production Hi, everyone, this is Iplehouse. ^^ We will stop selling YID Aaron & Cocori which are now available, and for customers who want, we kindly ask to place an order in a hurry. Because the season is upcoming when our manufacturing work for dark colored dolls is difficult, we will have to stop selling unavoidably. Dont see anything misleading in that, the word seasonally clearly states its not forever.
I was told in the Q&A that only ebony was going to be used, and that there were no plans for a black Cocori. Even if they did state it would be gone forever, it doesn't mean anything. Companies go back on their word all the time.
Iplehouse's tan dolls are so pretty! I hadn't really known much about the company before, but got interested by some of the Noctarcana Circus releases to look at them more closely, and wow, I'm amazed by Iple's ability to convincingly create dolls of many different races and skin colors. Since Swan Lake Cocori was originally released quite some time ago, they could still have some of her in stock from back then and be selling her even though they aren't producing brown anymore? Or maybe they just want to fulfil the run of 30 she's meant to have, and then stop making her in the brown resin.
(ETA: "As evilhamster13 says..." ) I believe it's just a matter of not having fulfilled the numbers for her limited run. Since she's limited to 30, I would assume that this means that fewer than 30 have been ordered so far. I know I'd order her in a if she were slightly less expensive. I love the doll, but have no use for that ballet costume she comes with I'm sure the costume is making up about 1/2 her price, considering the cost of their basic YID girls. As others have mentioned, they "pause" production on 'tanned' dolls altogether depending on the season. 'Tinted resins' (as I call them) seem to be finicky to produce under the best circumstances, so I think it's the rainy season when they stop, since the humidity makes it harder to produce a quality tinted doll? Please let me know if the weather circumstances I mention are wrong, I know it's something to do w/the season, but not sure on the exact cause.
You are correct, tinted resins do not cure properly in humid weather. I've been told it takes about ten casts of each part to make one doll's worth of matching resin pieces in the best of circumstances. Think of all the resin waste that must happen when they try to make dolls in unfavorable circumstances! That is why they suspend some colors during the wet season.
I apologize if this has been posted or asked before. I've checked around but came up empty. If a mod can direct me to a previous thread, thanks! I'm looking for a dark skinned girl. African American, Native American, Hispanic, I don't much mind, but I'm having a hard time finding anything really. I know Volks has a darker resin but I'm really not in love with their sculpts. They look very Caucasian, just darker toned. The Iplehouse dolls are beautiful, but I never have the money until they're unavailable, and Benny, who would be PERFECT and is basically MY DREAM DOLL, unfortunately, way too small. I'm looking in the 54-60 cm range. Are there any companies that sell dolls with AA features or dark skin other than Volks and IH and the occasional Luts? I'm struggling! Thank you!
I know the Dollshe dolls sold through Dollstown come in some darker skin tones. I am not certain if the actual Dollstown lines do also, but it may be worth checking. They have a number of female heads and body types that might work out for you. Edit to add link: http://dollstown.com/zboard/view.ph...sc=on&&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=110 (warning, dolly nudity)
Thsi thread has been merged, so there's some good discussion higher up. I want to plug Angelsdoll again - their dark tan is really lovely, and some of their sculpts, Jin in particular, are flexible enough to look right in different skin shades. (My Jin is in dark tan.) Their bodies are temporarily off-sale for redesign, but they've promised a summer event, and I think there's a dark tan Angela on the marketplace (or was a day or two ago.) And their prices are really good - they were $350 for the 60cm girls for a while, and then dropped to $280.
who else is drooling over the Tokyo Story Tan Tedros like whoa? Let's see a show of hands! *raises hand*
This is a great resource for darker/tanned dolls. To be honest, I'm surprised there are so many I wouldn't think dolls with African features would be possible. Now that I see there are some it would be great for me to try and make a doll of myself one day.
