Tan/African American/Black BJDs - Discussion!

The only other girls I know of are Elfdoll Ruru (only available in the secondary market now), Volks Ruby (not sure if she is still available), and Dollmore model Mellow Cole. All of these dolls are really beautiful; I wish I had all of them myself! (lol) There are lots of other tan dolls, but they don't have specifically African features; they are just the company's regular dolls produced in tan resin. Here are some tan dolls:

Dollmore has an AA model girl. There are a lot of Tan dolls. Some times their limiteds but they also can be basic dolls. Dollmore and Iplehouse are the only ones that make AA's at the present though.

In terms of just the darker colours of resin linakauno already mentioned Volks -- aside from Ruby, they also have dolls available in a lightly tanned Sunlight resin, and CP/Luts have also sold really lovely Tanned versions of their regular 60cm line as well

 

Supia's tan color is actually quite lovely, it's like a paper bag or coffee with cream color. Here is my Rosy :


Her features however are very Asian IMO.

 

You won't be sorry with Cocori. She is a real beauty!

 

HS! Aaron is so amazing and real looking! I have to say though I love Mellow Cole. I would love to make her into a groovy 60s or 70s gal, like a Pam Grier type. However she would need a natural, I wouldn't want her to have relaxed hair.

 

This is not a great photo (the room was very dark), but there was a small gathering of dolls of color at a table at the Austin doll con last summer:



On the back row is Elfdoll Ruru and two Aarons, on the front from the left is a light Cocori (mine), a dark Cocori, and a Mellow Cole. Gorgeous dolls, all of them.

I second that! As much as I love frosty, I keep thinking about her in other looks.

 

Mellow is at the top of my wish list, but without a faceup. She is a fabulous doll....I think I will be able to buy her by early spring.

all dolkot 60cm girls (and boys) come in tanned skin now as well. And the dollzone dolls.

 

Ruru was a limited doll that was not released as a standard. I think she's beautiful; maybe Elfdoll will release her again someday in another limited edition. They did that with some of their original tinies.

 

AOD now has tan dolls and Bobobie has tan. Bobobie discontinued their really dark skin, but the tan they have now still looks considerably darker than normal skin.

Mellow Cole does have a very pretty, expressive face.

 

Wow, Aaron has such presence! He's great.

I think my list of possibilities for my first doll just expanded again....

i know of 2, but neither is available except for occasionally on the secondary market: elfdoll ruru and volks sd16 ruby. cocori is a beautiful doll, and is on my someday list.

 

A lot of black or tan dolls I've seen have been dyed by their owners and they look gorgeous!!! Elfdoll used to make Ryung too...not sure what happened ot her tho

 

There's a hunky guy as well; Iplehouse Aaron. Tinybear is now producing a gorgeous tiny (really tiny) elf girl called Coco. I wish Dollmore would make a male Model Doll and I also wish there were African child dolls. My collection is all about diversity. I just can't get enough.

 

Thanks for the info guys. I've seen some good results from dying dolls, but I'm deathly afraid to just give my dolls a face up so dying isn't really an option.

I saw Ruru, and I want her to. She looks more latina to me though. I've never seen Volks' Ruby though. I'll have to do a search for her.

Bobobie made "chocolate" tan dolls when they first came on the scene, but I believe they stop making them so dark because of the sanding ans scratching issue. It may be possible to buy a nice one secondhand though. Just a thought.

 

I was actually looking into buying a Chocoloate Tony from someone here on DoA, but I don't really have a fit for him in my dollie family. He's adorable though. I like the chocolate Sprites too. But I prefer SD sized dolls... for now anyway.

 

I'm trying to find a larger sized male doll that has dark skin. But, from the places I've looked there's only been one so far (Iplehouse Aaron). I was wondering if anyone knew of any other dark skinned dolls, or if anyone had them? I know Abio Angel has a dark skin option, but I don't know what it looks like :/

One of the new body colors Dollshe will be producing is called "ebony". I hope he will also make a head to match with ambiguous features.

 

Any idea when these new bodies/colours will be coming out?
I probably won't have enough money for quite a while, but I'd like to know which options I have before buying or saving up for something.

 

There's been no announcement so far. "Mr Dollshe" is working on catching up back orders, casting for Dollstown dolls, as well as working on the designs for his new dolls and will eventually sell them on a new website of his own. I'm sure there will be a big buzz in the news thread when it happens because the Dollshe guys are extremely popular.

 

I checked out Dolkot as Lethanon said but couldn't find any tanned skin on there.

Abio Angel does sell Tan dolls, but right now, they aren't taking anymore orders for them as there was a problem with the resin. I should know, I've been waiting 8 months for mine to arrive only to have the box get misdirected by the mail service...
I'll spam pictures of Santheas when I get him. I'm getting a tan Ling. Divinity Doll has told me that the resin colour is actually quite similar to the skintone in my Avatar's image (santheas), since they were asked by the artist to choose the skintone.
AFAIK I'm the only one getting at Tan AA at this point. The rest of my sources tell me that everyone else cancelled.

 

I love the lighter tan Aaron a LOT and I LOVE COCORI. ^_^ Not a big fan of Mellow Cole, but Stella Maris if you get one to make into a 70s chick, send me a link? I'm very into 70s funk, and I'd love to see her! ^_____^ *Has Parliament songs playing in the background, actually*

 

just a quick note on Iplehouse Aaron: The light skinned Aarons from this year are very light and are the same color as light skin Cocori (ex. Swan Lake Cocori). i just saw comparison pics and the new LS Aaron looks really good.

 

All my favorite tan and black dolls are aways limited. I really love the tan el and the really rare tan DoD duncan. My favorite girl tan doll would have to be Peakswood Goldie. She's just beautiful.

 

I love Goldie, light and dark Cocori, Aaron, Ruru, Ruby, Lishe, Saint, and others. I have so far dark Aaron, Lishe SD and MNF, Linlan, Nabi Kiss, and a vinyl drk Goodreau doll. Cocori is next.

 

There are so not enough tan dolls on the market. Or at least not tan enough dolls. I really wish the BJD hobby represented a greater range of cultures.... so many white dolls.

All I know is somehow I need to get me a tan Souldoll 'spear of dark mist valley' Hye. I am so in love with her in tan.... know anybody who needs to move theirs on to a good new home?

I went to iplehouse website and find out that only dark skin cocori is available. light skin cocori (normal/sweet) are not even sold out, but *disappeared*.
Did Iplehouse discontinue them? For good?
Or will they restock them in future?

They also took down Aaron as well.
It's really difficult to make the light tans, so they stopped doing them.
I don't think they're going to make any more tans as basic, according to what I've read of what they've said.
But they did tell me they won't launch Cocori in NS/WS, so I bought WesternVer, then a month after I get her, they launch NS/WS Cocori

 

I agree, would love to see more tan dolls.
Have Lt Cocori (secondary market) and would like Ruru and Ruby, have seen a few tan here and there but always sold out. If so popular, you'd think they will produce more.

 

I would like Fairyland to produce tans like they did back in the day. I wish there was just an option to choose a skin color in any mold the way that Bobobie does it.

I didn't know they were done in basic. But I can see why they stopped. It's kind of hard to do that sort of colour that Iplehouse made. I'm still sad because I liked that colour it was so nice and realistic looking.

 

Dollzone tans dolls regularly, so does AOD. Though I've only ever\seen Tanned Yuu XD

I wish Tanning didn't have such a high failure rate. Some of these dolls would look epic if they could be tanned.

In about May time, the relaunched Lt.Cocori in basic, but she soon went to SOLDOUT, and was taken down last month-ish. Aaron (lt&dk) also disappeared.
Perhaps(speculation follows)if they manage to find a more successful resin, perhaps get tips from BBB,(since they do their dolls in a rainbow of colours),they might re-launch their lovely tans in basic again, one day.

I'd read on the iple site that they were just discontinuing the basic tans because they'd reached the rainy season, and were planning on starting back up again later in the year when the conditions are better for producing the tans.

I'm hoping to one day snag an Aaron myself.

 

Dollstown is offering most of their sculpts in a Pale and Dark Tan. The Torre sculpts, Elysia, etc could definitely work in a darker resin.

Also Twigling is supposed to be releasing a very beautiful doll called Yilsande through Enchantment Doll.
She has suggested that in future Yilsande will be offered in a choice of resin colours including light and dark tan and her features are versatile enough that she would look lovely as an African/Carribean/Mixed Race girl.

I am thrilled Dollstown has created such a dark tan, now they just need to be willing to make the MSD size and elf parts into those colors and I will be ordering a couple more kids.

RROSS, the price hasn't been set yet ~ the doll that Flowergirl got was a trade. Hopefully we will know soon though. I'll post an update in the Ylisande discussion thread when there is more info, also probably there will be a News thread when she is available for sale.
