I didn't make the deadline, but being a part of the excitement has been pushing me to try new things. It's fun to have something to look forward to. Sort of like Christmas morning suspense building, while waiting to see the creations that were finished on time! The voting on the first one was hard. Many were equally great, in different ways I thought. Thank you again mods, for putting this together, hanging in there with all the questions, and plowing through the details to set up the voting too.

It's been a great excuse to eat chocolate. Anything is a great excuse to eat chocolate.

Well, here's what I have now and I'm stopping to start figuring out what I'm going to do for the prop challenge to go with my design challenge since I've got only 2 days for that now! XD I've kept all of the pattern pieces together so I can make the outfit for real some day.


Here's my shoddy mockup to show the original design. When I realized I was strapped for time I decided to cut the cuffs. Hadn't made it around the rest of it yet.

Good luck everyone. I didn't quite finish mine completely but I submitted it anyone, though I'm kinda embarrassed on the photos and the unfinished boots, I know I can do sooo much better, but eh at least I gave it a shot. I also just realized this morning that I didn't resize my photos so I think I'll probably get disqualified. I guess I'll see.

 

Missed the deadline sadly. I'm looking forward to seeing the entries that made it though.

I'm excited to see all the entries! I'm sure they will be wonderful. So many talented people here. I didn't make the deadline, but at least I got a nice pattern for my girl out of it.

 

I hope that whether or not the designs made it into the contest, members are willing to share their patterns in the sewing subforum when the party is over! There are some crazy talented people on this forum!

 

Me too. I didn't have time to enter this and the triathlon too but I had thought of challenging myself under the same restrictions to do this as a side project for practice. I'd really love to see what others made for this one. Draped Muslins/toiles really are fascinating things.

I've been collecting "piece goods" [except not in standard sizes or forms] for a long time. Even when I had an antique shop a decade ago, I had a section of the store for linens and textiles. I can't wait to see these creative patterns and designs! I don't know why it makes me so happy to see artistic accomplishments, but it does.
Hopefully, some of the skills and know-how will "rub off on me" ~ Just getting the momentum to finally set up a work place, and trying was a great prize from this contest for me. Thanks again to mods, and to all the members who bring the energy and excitement.
Plus, for me, this is a bridge to finally be brave and visit the sewing threads. New, different, clever patterns are going to inspire lots of creativity.


OK. In my case maybe only inspire lots of admiration [if not some actual new threads for my dolls]
In case the connection isn't clear, I love fabric and can see ideas for garments in them, but never have learned the actual proper steps for turning visions into realities. People who could compete here can do that, and I can't wait to see the magic.

 

This was a great idea, I know, my friend, a fashion design student have to make their outfit out of calico first to see how the clothes react to your cutting and design.. Once you add these sewing techniques to it it does change how the fabric sits and drape... I have dreams of making dresses for my dolls... Yes,... I have fabric and lace but too afraid to touch them...
I look forward to seeing everyone's designs and quite excited to what the mods are so excited about!

I'm amazed at the more detailed entries. How on earth did you guys pull that off with such limited amounts of flimsy old muslin? I'd love to see everyone's pattern layouts after this is over because I'm baffled.

 

So inspiring! This is one competition where I really wish the photos were linked to full size ones afterwards so I could better peer at the techniques and construction details! (Hint-hint) Each entry had something very distinctive and creative to recommend it, voting was really TOUGH!

 

So many contestants deserve a prize... outrageous!!

 

Yay, love to see all of the entries. I just wish the third photo was provided as well because some of those outfits have a lot of beautiful details you can't see well in the full photo. Hard to decide which to vote.

Are the rules same here as in the triathlon voting? You're not allowed to vote the same entry more than once?

Wow. A lot of gorgeous entries. I'll admit to not seeing as much of the "deconstruction/reconstruction" theme represented as I would have liked, but WOW the seriously amazing skill honestly blows me away. Congrats to everyone who entered!

Wowza there are some cool entries for sure!

 

Toughest choices so far, and that's saying something! There are some seriously talented seamstresses represented here. I opened the detail shot in a separate window, then zoomed it up to see more of the details. The bigger the photo, the more amazing some of these are. Try enlarging #13, for instance.

 

My goodness, I don't see how all of the entrants aren't winning on Project Runway!!!! Every time these contests are held, I'm just astonished at the skill and creativity of everyone!!! Congrats to you all!!!

Holy Cow. Someone said "magnificent" a page or so back?!! Agreed!!! I'm mind-boggled. I'd love to see some of these designs done up in fancy fabric at some point, too, but even the simple muslin is beautiful.

 

I here ya on this one...even without finishing the boots I used up most of mine and it wasn't that extravagant as some of them are.

 

Wow. I have no words. This was the hardest one to vote for so far, you are all truly skilled in ways I can't imagine.

 

I'll add my voice to this, I'd love to see the pattern layouts, too.

 

Wow! Such beautiful work to be seen! You guys make most of the Project Runway contestants look like five year olds cutting up mommy's pantyhose for their Barbies!

 

And I would like to see a percentage ratio of voices on the end of vote. Who how many votes collected.

I went back over them all again, checking out all the detail photographs. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ...and that's what I think.

I wish I could take sewing lessons from some of these whizzes with the stiches! No matter who ends up with the top number of votes, every one should feel very proud of their entries.
