How did you create this image? What was your concept?
My concept was "Almost Human" as in having feelings, a heart or being oneself/an individual.
Usually we customise our dolls to our liking. But sometimes they just "want" to be someone/something else. ^^

This doll paints a heart on her chest like living beings have inside their chests. By doing that she shows she has feelings, she's "alive". She "customises" herself as individuals do. So she's almost like a human.
(Ugh...I suck at explaining...)

Sketch drawn with pencil on paper, scanned in, made outlines in SAI (took ages!) and then coloured in Photoshop CS2 (took ages, too. Though it doesn't look like it at all... OTL)

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
I'm not sure where I got this idea from, but it seemed like a good idea. The pink is because I opened my pencil box and there was the pink pencil and it all seemed to fit.

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
I wanted something that looked like a cavern or den so I chose to create stone text. The cherub on top I think embodies our joyous and playful nature and the way that often times we as doll loving adults can be child like without being childish.

Concept:
This image is meant to represent sayings such as to "Wish on a star" and to "Reach for the stars" This little doll makes her wish to become a human girl, and in the stars around her you see her dream, to become a pop star!

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
To explore how a doll is like a human we must first explore what it means to be human.
I wanted to make a design that would get people to ask what my shirt is about when I wear it. And I wanted it to look a bit like a band album cover, classic art, and technical schematic.

Following along with the idea that a doll should follow one's interest and personality, this image depicts a doll and girl in similar dress. The girl is painting the doll's lips as she wants them and the doll is sitting patiently. This was a traditional drawing with digital coloring and shading.

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
I've always seen my dolls as a reflection of things I wish I could be, things I couldn't really be because of certain restrictions. They were a weird sort of freedom to express what I wanted from myself, but didn't have the guts to be. But now that I've had them a while, I kind of feel like they want the same from me; I know I have imperfections, but so do dolls. I have spots and freckles I'd rather not have; I think dolls would rather not have their seam lines, the chips, the yellowing...In that sense we're almost the same. I tried to show that in my entry for this competition, by starting with two identical figures, and just adding in the parts which makes the doll a doll...without the joints and seam lines, we're both just made up of what we are, and what we wish we could be. ^^

I would be so proud to win this competition, as I've only been here for a year and I've met so many wonderful people and their dolls. This is my show of appreciation to DOA - I hope you like it ^^!

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
I wanted to work with this year's intriguing theme of "Almost Human" and "Almost Doll", as well as incorporate angels into it (because this forum is called Den of Angels and, well, they're hot! XD). So, in the end, it became "Almost Human, Almost Doll, Almost Angel".

...I also really hopes that someone someday will make those ball-jointed angel wings I designed in the picture! I want to buy a pair! >w<;

The medium used was ink and copic markers, with a little photoshop for color editing. Mostly everything's done by hand because I'm silly and (much too) old school. ^^;

How did you create this image? What was your concept?
My concept is how dolls sometimes do their own thing...for instance, drawing their own wings! Part of what makes us human is our urge to create, so I found it fitting that this little dolly liked to sketch. Image was done in Illustrator and text added in Photoshop.
