Supia Girls Discussion Thread Part VIII

Feb 17, 2018

    1. I have a BFA for costuming in theater, so I guess I am in a way, lol. I haven't done anything professional in yeeears though.

My favorite part is designing and drafting patterns, so dolls are great for that. Patterns fit on the table and disasters waste less material, lol.

      • x 2
    2. That's so awesome! I like drafting patterns as well. I just started to learn to use a computer program called Valentina which is cool, but has a steep learning curve. I think once I get some patterns designed it's going to be super easy to adjust them according to the doll I want to fit (you design the parts using a matrix of measurements from a table and if you change the table to one for a different doll, the measurements just change automatically, resizing the pattern, it's so cool!) All open source too (I'm a techno junky on open source projects, LOL) I just wish I had the time! My (last) kid is going to learn to drive now, but I won't trust her to go very far for quite some time, or even on her own, LOL) But the time where I don't need to service at least one person, will be welcomed! (still have mom, she can't drive anymore, but that's OK, my time to myself is coming, and she has a nice sewing machine I can use when I'm there, LOL)

Life is getting good here slowly but surely it'll all be about dolls (evil laugh :mwahaha:evilplot::chomp: )

    3. I've heard of Sewist CAD and actually Carmens dress was inspired by one of Lekala's options. They seem a lot like what you're talking about, but I haven't looked that far into it. Their system seems more restrictive, and it's only really for human sizes, lol, at least at my technology level. I tried tripling my measurements, then shrinking the patterns back down but it was an utter failure, I get waaay better results with paper and rulers, lol.

The technology is super cool though and I did make myself a well fitted shirt with a Lekala pattern, lol.

    4. Yah, Valentina lets you use cm or mm and it doesn't matter what size you draw. but it is not a user friendly interface. On the other hand, if you know how to draft patterns mathematically, it's pretty powerful in how you can adjust the sizes. I wish they had sloper patterns to build off of though :P

    5. I don't think I've even posted in a Supia thread before despite owning one of their boys already and I'm currently waiting on a Naomi head, I love her even though you don't see too many around. I love seeing all your beautiful girls it makes me so excited to finally add a Supia girl to my family!

    6. Welcome to the thread @rave-andou ! Naomi is lovely.

    7. Hi Supia friends! I'm ready to do a big order for my incoming Rosy (shes on the original single joint body) Do you think that Nine9 style SD13 size will fit her? I know supia SJ body is very slim so I'm assuming thats her size? Shes my first girly so I have no point of reference at the mo! Thanks <3

    8. @vampire-valentine I have Haeun with the double jointed small bust body and she fits nicely into nine9style's SD13 shoes and clothes. The original single jointed body has slightly smaller measurements, so I don't think there will be any issues. You can also e-mail nine9style and reference your measurements and the items you are interested in to see if it would a good fit. :)

    9. Iโ€™m seriously considering buying a juah. Her sculpt is so unique and delicate.

    10. Oh, Naomi is gorgeous! I hope you post lots and lots of pictures when she arrives :D Congratulations @rave-andou !

@vampire-valentine LOL I'm trying to write something helpful, but I give up, i don't know! I better keep my mouth shut and not speculate, LOL

@Smol_Chim I love Juah too. Been thinking of buying a white head off the market place, but ended up buying something else. I hope you can get one so we can have some lovely pictures here!!

    11. Hi All,

I think I'm going to take advantage of the new free shipping event to finally order the 65cm body for my Juah!

Has anyone received their bodies yet? I'm not having any luck finding owner pics :(

    12. Oooh, free shipping is back? Oh dear....

Oh, I have the 64cm body, what would you like to know/see?

    13. How often do they do the free shipping thing?

    14. Yes please! Supia have some nice videos posted but it's always good to see owner pics :) Do you happen to have any comparison photos with 70cm males?

    15. Almost every 6 months I'd say? They seem to do a big event in the summer & another in the winter months. They never run for very long though so I've always missed out!

    16. OK, @Em I just took these pictures, it's night time, and these are done with flash, LOL, so not so good. If you click on the pictures you can see the rest of the photographs on flickr

      [IMG]IMG_20180605_203301001 by ingiebee, on Flickr

      Notes:

She doesn't want to lift her leg to sit or so, because her chord isn't going between the slot. So you have to twist the upper leg until the chord and slot are in line

      She's big, definitely big LOL

I think her neck is too long, but it's not so bad when she has a wig on. I like that it's thick, and might shorten it a bit, but probably not because she is tan....:doh

So when sitting with her feet out in front of her, she does lean a little backwards, but doesn't fall. You can make her slouch to compensate.

Lifting her knees while seated on the ground... well, you can only go as far as .... I mean, her lower leg is a longer than where it's taking off from (upper leg) so it limits the amount you can lift the leg. Even so, the thigh isn't going to go any higher, so...

I put a wig on a couple of her pictures because I think all girls would seem pin headed to us without our hair, no matter how thin :) and so you'd get more of an idea of the whole.

Oh, and I took two pictures from the side, one slightly turned There is one picture on the website that worried me, it looked like her ball sockets stuck out horribly and were really huge. That must be the angle or focal length or something because her upper ball sockets barely stick out and are not obtrusive at all. In fact, I'm sure she'd look awesome in pants, only I don't have any at the moment??

Hope that helps! Oh, and her head doesn't move side to side or up and down very well, I mean it does a little but I'd like more. A lot more, so yah, I'll probably be trying to figure something out there??

Oh, and the aesthetics of the sculpt and all the joints are some of the best I've ever seen :)

    17. OMG thank you so much IngieBee!!!

    18. No problem! I've learned in this hobby, that every body is going to have good points and not so good points, there is no perfection...yet :D

    19. @IngieBee your photos make her very tempting. :) Would you say she's a "true" 64cm? Some companies will say 64 and the doll is really 62 or so.

And, free shipping! Somehow I thought I'd missed the event already!

    20. They just had an event recently! I ordered my 65cm girl then!

    21. It seems this year there is a free shipping event every month... They had one in January/February when I ordered, then March/April which extended to May, and now again...I don't mind, just waiting for money to buy an old double jointed body :) . The new one seems a bit big, especially with the delicate Supia heads.

    22. Rosy is one of the smallest Supia heads. I bet the body looks even better with some of the bigger heads like Ariel.

      (edit for typos)

    23. I'll have to measure her later and get back to you! :whee:

    24. Hello all! I am hoping to get my first Supia girl later on this year, and while I am 100% sure on which head I'd like, I'm at a bit of a loss with the body. I do find the single-jointed Supia body more aesthetically pleasing than the double-jointed one, and am a bit of an old fart (the vast majority of my current dolls are also single-jointed). However, I don't want to rule out the double-jointed body just because it doesn't seem like the obvious choice for me. Does anyone own both? What are some pros and cons of the two bodies?

Edited to add: I'm not interested in the 65cm body! It's lovely but too large for this particular doll I have in mind.

    25. I own all 3 now. The single jointed body is fine to handle. The double jointed (middle) body is always collapsing on me, and I find it slippery and difficult to handle, but very posable :) and the new biggest body is heavy but very very easy to handle compared to the middle and even the smallest body in some ways because it doesn't slip around so much. But she is a big girl, and the size changes the aesthetics of the doll, making the proportions more "realistic" and less dolly like (and unless you started collecting the more realistic dolls, you'll think she is pin-headed :D

Personally, If you're not looking for ability to sit on her legs, or possibly touch her face, the single jointed body can do everything else, and I think the aesthetics are more important sometimes. I love all of them for different reasons, and I like to have variety in my doll bodies, but if you're only getting one, I'd go with your guts :D Go with what you think is pretty as long as you don't need a special pose. I just got a body because she has locks in her legs and hips etc... and I need her to do skateboard poses. But most of my other dolls, well they don't need to do anything really, I just get different bodies for them, LOL.

(thought sj body had dj arms, but they're sj)

    26. I only have the double jointed body. While I love it, I also super love the aesthetic of it and I can confirm, once she loosened up a bit after I first got her, she's not quite as steady as she was straight out of the box, lol. I don't mind at all, and I'm still glad of my choice, but if your gut is telling you to go with the single joint body that's probably what you'll be happiest with.

(I also got spoiled by the posing of an OT vinyl doll, which is so much lighter and has so much more joint friction, so when I came back to her I was like "what happened why the flopping?!")

    27. I was playing with Hamin the other day and she was so slippery, I said to her face "that's it, you're getting hot glued!" and I was looking all over the place for my glue gun with her in my arms, and I could swear she was saying "No I'm not, ha ha ha!" LOL

I think she hid the glue gun....

And all because of you, @Sandwich , I realized Supia has free shipping Plus a discount on a body! I need that double jointed for my CP/Luts Juri07b head! Ugh! I had to buy it... on credit, very bad!

    28. Thank you @IngieBee and @Samsally!

The possibility of having a doll that can pose very well is tempting, but I do tend to get very frustrated with "fiddly joints." I don't need any really complicated poses as long as her knees won't buckle and send her tumbling!

Also, I'm not really worried about the realism of the doll, it's just I need her to fit in size-wise with another doll and at 65cm I think she'll be a little out of proportion. I actually really do like the 65cm body quite a bit, and fortunately for me there's many Supia sculpts I like, so that body may be a possibility for a different doll down the road.

I will more than likely be ordering a doll with the single-jointed body (at least for my first Supia). And that sale right now is so ridiculously tempting but I'm trying to be good at the moment!

    29. Also watch youtube videos on body reviews, I find them very helpful. Even just seeing someone holding the doll, it's like you can "feel" the size :)

    30. Reading this thread convinced me and so as of last night I boarded the Supia train and took advantage of that sale last minute! I got the original body with the face up and blushing but no eyes and wig. I assume most of the pictures on the site use 16 mm eyes? Do people ever go 14 mm? And the 8-9 wig size is pretty standard right? I feel like I see that size the most.

    31. The eyes definitely depend on which sculpt you got, my Noa takes 14mm. She can wear normal 14mm and look pretty good, but I actually prefer the look of small iris on her.

    32. I also use 14mm in Roda/D.Roda, Rosy, D.Rosy and Ji-in. I think I'll try 14mm with small iris in the future, because the eyes still look big, but 12mm show gaps at the eye sockets...
And wigs... I'd rather say 7-8", because the heads are nearly a straight 8". 8-9" wigs have to be pulled over the ears (on the sculpts I own)

    33. I got the Haeun sculpt and I happen to be looking at these eyes specifically. From what I'm reading I have a good feeling about 14 mm.

    34. Ah, congratulations @zen0one ! Yah, I also use 14 with small iris in my girls (Rosy, Hamin and Eunice :D ) I also find the 7-8 fits best mostly because I like a tighter fit, and hate a "swimming" wig. I also use 8-9, but they have a wig cap to help with slippage. But this only works with wigs like Monique where they're stretchy...

    35. What's shopping for clothes like for a Supia? I know they would be SD. But is there a popular doll they have in common with that I can use as a point of reference? Like anything that would for a _______ would fit a Supia.

    36. all the YID sized clothes I've bought my double jointed girl body have fit wonderfully. I've also had excellent luck with SD13 sized dresses

    37. The double jointed bodies are bigger right? Cause I opted for the original one which is the 58cm ones. Your's is like 65cm I think? Unless that's just the new new ones

    38. there's the single jointed girl body, the double jointed girl body (which is about the same size as the single jointed body) and then there's the 65cm body. My girl is the DJ body and the clothing suggestions I made fit her

    39. Oh, the double jointed girl is definitely larger than the single jointed girl body. At least by a few centimeters and certainly her tummy is larger. They feel quite different for certain. At the bottom of this page, you can see their dimension. Otherwise, I think that Alice's collection SD stuff should fit well the SJ body, the DJ body is harder. Either she is too big or too small, but to be safe, maybe SD65 ?? Double check dimensions when you can though??.

    40. SD65 sized things fit 65cm girls - like Soom Super Gem and SD16 - and are a bit too big for the DJ body

    41. Yah, I just got a dress at AC and it's too tight around her waist. I don't have enough experience to know all the clothing makers though :( I'm sure, for non-fitted things, that they'd share clothes easier, so sorry if I lead you astray. :doh

    42. I use 14mm eyes for my Muriel which suit her really well and for her wig I used a monique gold 7/8, as the bigger size was to loose.

    43. I have to correct myself, I don't use 14mm in Roda, it's 16 mm (I have the same colour in both sizes). So it depends on the sculpt. Lina and Lana also look like they take 16mm. On the Supia homepage there is a different eyes size given for each sculpt at the very bottom, I think that size will be best for the eyes.
I have just received the DJ body, but had the SJ body for years. Finding fitting clothes will probably be hit and miss... I have SD13 (Sadol, Dollheart) dresses here for the SJ body, also the Soom Nephelin dress (summer festival or what it was called?).

    44. Stacy's Pink Ocean will make clothes to order. They will ask for a long list of measurements so you can't order until you have the doll. They are available through their own web site or Alice's Collections. I believe Alice's does make some other clothes to measurements also.

    45. And I successfully switched to the double jointed large bust with Supia because I learned the double jointed bodies aren't that much bigger than the original bodies. Thanks for clearing that up for me @Girrl and @IngieBee. Shouldn't be too much trouble getting clothes for her still, I think

    46. Also unrelated by thank you @nancy_schroeder_ca for information about Stacy's Pink Ocean. I had no idea they did custom order clothing! This is a godsend!

    47. I'm glad they were able to switch that for you. And the double jointed w/large bust is exactly my girls body, so my what fits suggestions are going to be totally accurate

      • x 1
    48. I wish Alice's Collections had like measurements for their clothes because i found a skirt that is PERFECT. But how can i know if it would fit? Should i message them the double jointed body's waist and hip measurements and see what they say? There's a couple skirts i want from there ://

    49. @zen0one - a bit of what fits: Taline is wearing these Angell Studio jeans and this top from Tree Designs (her bag is from there too)
the jeans are tight on her thighs and a bit loose in the waist and butt (a touch of realism there :sigh) but the top fits like a dream

    50. @Girrl Those are such great examples. That's funny about the jeans  I noticed that top was in the 16SD section oppose to the SD13 section which is where you would recommend. Do you sort of roam around? I don't actually know the difference between the SD13 and SD16 or SD10 (is that a thing?). Also I keep forgetting, do most SD shoes out there fit Supia girls?

    51. Tree Studio seems to lump all their stretchy tops in a "SD sized" category (per how things were labeled when they arrived, no matter that I bought some in the SD 16 category and others in the SID category) and most of my girls are closer to SD16 sized so I tend to default to that size category when browsing (in case of cute shorts or something not stretchy) unless I'm specifically shopping for a certain doll.
Shoes are more hit or miss. Angell Studio shoes are too narrow for Supia heel feet. The heels I've bought for SD16 heel feet have usually fit.

    52. I want this SD13 outfit to fit so bad but the chest measurement is off by 2.5 cm and the height is not right either. Could I get away with it for my DJ large bust doll?

      Supia Double Joint Body
      Height: 61 cm
      Circumference of Neck: 9 cm
      Width of Shoulders: 8 cm
Circumference of Bust (Small/Large): 23.5/24.5 cm
      Circumference of Waist: 17.5 cm
      Circumference of Hip: 25.5 cm
Length of arm (with hand): 23 cm
Length of leg (with feet): 31 cm
      Circumference of ankle: 7 cm
      Circumference of wrist: 5.5 cm
      Foot size: 6.7 cm

    54. She's very beautiful and intriguing (I bet she has an interesting background story)

    55. Wow what a faceup! She's so well done and all that detail. She looks tough

    56. LOL, I was eyeing that one too :) You know, it's worth asking if they'll make another for you with your measurements???!!!!

@Follow-the-Wind I absolutely love your Steampunk girl! All her smudges, OMG, sooooo cute! And those eyebrows! I'll never tire of the Steampunk genre and have several outfits ideas I want to make myself. Your girl is so adorable!

    57. @IngieBee Following your advice I asked the seller and so what was really needed was a new blouse because everything else fits. So's she gonna make a new blouse that would fit so I could order it! Problem solved!

    58. So awesome, @zen0one !!!! It pays to ask! :D
