Supia Girls Discussion Thread Part VIII

Feb 17, 2018

    1. @Enchiridion Well, what do you know, I actually have a Doll Family H head, it's the Xiao Xin head! Although I think any combo would do for white, the one that would be easiest to match is DFH. OK from the top, we have

      DFA most white
      Supia slight creamy
      DFH slightly more creamy

Though supia looks lighter, I think it's because it is centered with the light, which is an LED bright white light

    2. that is super helpfull! i will defiantly be getting DFH body for my head when i get it thanks so much

    3. Awesome, and now I'm thinking of doing the same as I have a Rhoda head who needs a body, (that was her head cap) and I shall look at DF for that now as well :D

    4. Can anyone tell me what ‘B’ means when selecting a faceup? For instance, when buying a head from the Parts section, the makeup drop down has ‘normal’ or ‘normal B’ and ‘smokey’ vs ‘smokey B’, etc. Looked around on the site a bit, but nothing is giving me any idea...

    5. @Havra I don't know, they're not very consistent about it, but you *should* find on the writing on the picture "diva red makeup" or "smokey" or some such

      • x 1
    6. Ok, I looked around and managed to find a few pictures labelled with the ‘B’ versions of the faceups... but I’m still in the dark as to what is different. Maybe the lips?

I left a message on their Q&A board about it.

      • x 1
    7. Not sure about the difference about normal a and b, maybe different eyelashes colour?and normal b has darker eyeliners?
I’m wondering if the 65 body has better pose ability compared to the ballerina body?
I’ve been wanting Juah.... any reviews or opinion from you guys?

    8. I have both bodies, and I think they are super similar except for the extra waist joint in the Ballerina body. I'd go purely on aesthetics for your doll.

Or else, just know that their hips are bigger than anything else I have and thus can't fit into Iplehouse jeans etc...

    9. Hiya so i've been eyeing Hamin for a long while can I see owner photos? (plus if its a profile photo without wig want to see angle of chin) and does anyone know if a supia head would fit a luts SDF body and if the normal resin may match?

    10. Yaaay, @Kitty Blue! Of youtube fame? I enjoy your helpful reviews, thus I MUST help here to the best of my abilities!

If the SDF bodies are cast in the same resin as the delfs, and the resin color doesn't change, It will be lighter than the Supia resin in normal skin. I have taken a picture to the best of my abilities. I have not modified it from my phone camera, and it was taken from a white LED light. The leg in the center with the light brown sock on is the Supiadoll and the other legs are my Delf Isabella's legs. The Luts Delf is lighter and pinker
      [IMG]

Now, Hamin has issues that I thought would bother me, and all I can say is that she is now one of my favorite dolls. When I look in her direction, I always have to smile back at her! She is beautiful! Now all Supiadoll heads, as far as I can tell, have a rather short jaw, some shorter than others. And so does Hamin. Plus, Hamin's head shape looks a little odd too, if she's bald. Once a wig is on, it looks way better.

She now wears these eyes and this wig:

And like I said, I am so smitten with her especially as more time goes by. She's been with me since 2017 So I do highly recommend, but not if the profile picture with a wig on bothers you. But maybe even if you think it bothers you, like I did, maybe it's still a recommendation :)

Also, I really do like their new bodies, the 65 and the ballerina (she's 60) They pose about the same, though the ballerina has a 3 part body and has a little more movement due to it, but not that much. The only thing is, they both have large hips. The 65 ... well, she'd be hard to find clothes for, and the 60 I haven't tried a lot of things on her yet, so I'm not sure how bad it is. But Iplehouse EID is still too small, at least what I've tried, for the 65 :)

      Oh, and that's a Supiadoll faceup :)

    11. thank you yep that would be me MsKittyBlue on youtube..lol Yes looks like the normal supia is more of a normal yellow so the head won't work for a luts body. And this is the dollemma I have with all the smiling girls I have found. The april story lillian and the fantasia canary have a long pointed strange jawline and odd shaped head and I did have someone take a photo of Hamin side and noticed the odd angle of her chin and the odd shape of her head, though the jaw is definitely shorter I'm still on the fence..I've sworn off SD dolls in general and would love to find a smiling girl like these in MSD but no luck and the supia tan is really pretty, lots of decistions to be made. Do you know if Supiadoll has frequent sales? right now they are offering 10% off and free shipping not sure how often this happens.

    12. Well, I finally took the plunge and decided to order a Doll Family H boy body (DF-H 1/3 Boy Body Ver.4 56CM) for a lina head at some point to finally make a lina boy I've wanted for like 10+ years LOL. I'm really hoping the proportions and size is okay given that it's a more petite boy body! I ordered the body in NS pink (from what I can gather, supia NS is more peachy/has a bit more yellow, so the head may need some extra pink blushing, but I think I can manage it) and plan to get the supia head in NS.

I have my NS haeun and tan juah here already and absolutely adore them. I cannot wait to hopefully get a lina boy to work out (I'm posting this in the girl discussion as it's a girl sculpt. Hopefully that's okay!).

      I don't think I posted these here -- a Plum!

      • x 7
    14. The problem with the picture is that the Supia would look pink if it didn't have a Luts next to it. Luts seems to simply be more on the cooler side :) I just wouldn't call it normal yellow, as it's way off from my Loongsoul NY body. I'd find Supia to look very pink against that :)
Supia does have the 10% and free shipping somewhat often, but irregularly, that is, I don't know on what occasions as it seems different from other doll companies to me??

@DawnDusk , he's so cute! (hope I got the gender right?) His resin matches so well, what body is it, or did I get the gender wrong?

      • x 1
    15. Yeah, Supia seems to have had a shipping/discount event going every month for quite some time!

      Thank you! I keep my dolls out and just love looking at their cute faces when I'm in my room. ; u ;

Plum is the haeun sculpt on a supia ballerina body, so hence why the resin match is perfect, haha. (Plum, the character, uses they/them but is fine with he/him as well. I was considering shaving down the doll's chest a bit to give more of flattened impression as the character binds their chest, but I found it wasn't really necessary because the ballerina bust is pretty small in comparison with other SDs).

Here's a couple of Thistle! I still need to get a good picture of her in the blue/white dress, but I thought it was too pretty not to share, lol.

    16. Oh cool, @DawnDusk , I'm glad I was reading them somewhat correctly, LOL :D Thistle is also so pretty, are they fairies? I ask because of the wreaths on their heads? :D

      • x 1
    17. Haha, they are supposed to be fae, yes! (I will make any excuse to make a character with elfie ears, basically lol). Thank you! I'm so happy with how Thistle has turned out in terms of styling so far.

    18. I love that some of the head sculpts come with human and elf ears. and the tan is just soooo gorgeous but probably hard do a resin match with other companies??

    19. Tan is always hard, but my theory, and it's worked for me, is that as long as the body is darker, you can match the head to the body. The head gets a faceup anyway, that you have to be careful with, it's the body that is a pain to blush. I've blushed a white head to match a tan with pastels. So it's not impossible. But I darkened a pair of hands a bit too much recently, LOL, it was on a dark tan body and the powder looked much lighter than after spraying with the finish. So it takes practice :)

Oh, and FYI, I found this MSD girl in case you haven't seen her before :D @Kitty Blue

      • x 1
    20. yea i get that just trying to find the best match if i decide the route of just getting the head. so i guess my question should have been if anyone has tan supiadoll head hybrid with a different company body.
Yes I have seen the MSD girl before I'm not found of the tongue aspect. Just want a natural teeth smile like Hamin. Thanks

    21. thanks for the comparison...I'm curious if one of the Luts tans would work...I unfortunately don't have any iplehouse but I do have a minifee in tan so hmm...I'll have to see how fairyland and luts tan compare because i have all of the tans from Luts. I'm still on the fence so may wait and hope for another future event...already bought 2 dolls 2nd hand this month..lol

    22. Totally not sure if this helps, but supia is a common hybrid for NS fairyland heads, so if you can find fairyland to DFH comparisons, it’ll be comparable

    23. unfortunately I don't have a fairyland in normal.
Looking at Ingiebee's photo I'm thinking Luts light tan might be close to supia tan as Luts light tan seems to be slightly more yellow than my fairyland tan, but not sure how the head would look since it seems Hamin head is kinda large looking. I know Luts is very pale I wish I had a fairyland normal to compare with it... hmmm I forgot about my 2 pukifees I think they are both white though, now I gotta go check..lol

    24. that's really fair. I was also thinking there'd be a lot of resin comparisons to FL because of how popular they are, so maybe someone would have pictures. I'm also a big fan of dyeing, but dyeing to match can definitely be tricky. As for fit, I have a heeji head, and I wasn't expecting how big she was! Which Luts body were you thinking?

    25. I've dyed quite a few dolls but it gets tricky when it's different companies because i notice that different resins dye differently..that is always an option. I have a Luts Senior Delf Type 2 body and I really like the way it looks but hate that it's single jointed knees and the arms are sorta double jointed but not fully double jointed. The neck is only about 8cm so i think the supia head would look way to big.

    26. @Kitty Blue I'm working from memory, but I think Supia tan might work with Granado tan. Unfortunately I don't have a tan Granado anymore to check. :(

    27. trying to navigate Granado website is frustrating..lol..I'm use to websites that have drop downs for each size..lol..but yea they are so much more expensize. Thanks for the info though I'm going to hold off on a supia for now until I decide if I really need another doll..lol

    28. They hide the information really well! Here are their colors. I have a Nael head on a Maiden body and the proportions look good. But you're right about it being one of the more pricey bodies.

    29. I have a pair of jointed hands from Resinsoul, but I blushed them to match an Iplehouse brown. Still, I could see the color underneath/between the wrist joints and was disappointed to note that they are too pinkish to fit with the yellowish tan of Supiadoll :( Just thought I'd let you know @Kitty Blue Unfortunately, I don't have a tan luts :(

    31. thank you that is a lovely body I like that there are bust options not too many companies offer different sizes, eek on the price I can buy a whole doll for that much...lol. How does the resin color match?

    32. @AzureFantoccini i love your supia! She’s one of the reasons I became interested in the company and started lurking this forum LOL.

I really like seeing your pictures pop up on Instagram, your Chloe is full of personality :blush

    35. I posted in this thread almost three years ago, knowing which head I wanted but not which body. I've finally taken the plunge and ordered my Juah today on the 60cm ballerina body! Glad I waited as I really love this body, but read from @IngieBee that the hips are quite wide. I'm looking to find just a basic pair of jeans for her; any recommendations?

      • x 1
    36. For jeans, I like them to have just the right fit, and for these dolls, that would mean tapered and fitted st the top. For that, I think one needs to find a seamstress like on etsy, by looking at their work and seeing if they will do custom work?? Another option, I had mine in sweat pants and a pair of jeans I ordered for an Iplehouse doll that the maker made large (too large for my tastes) is what mine is wearing, but it's still too big. These fit snuggly on my supia65 body where nothing else fits or goes on! And looking back on what I wrote, not very helpful :vein sorry!!

    37. @Sandwich OK, I did a try on of pretty much all the pants I currently have and my conclusion is that Iplehouse SID and Fairyland F65 (which also fits Iplehouse SID clothes well) will fit for bottoms. I've taken photos of all these thing:

Realistic SD BJD / Supia Doll SD | The Impish Elf

You can click on the images and you can choose "large" or "huge" on the upper right, looks like a rectangle in a rectangle so you can see up close if you need to.

First jeans were from MerryDollShop and they are very nice, and made for an SID (Iplehouse). They are still a wee bit loose, and I think are supposed to hang on the hips more. Still slightly large on my Supia Ballerina, but definitely do-able. I thought they fit nice on my Supia65, however, the length is too short and they are too tight to fit in. I could snap them shut standing, but they were tight! Actually, I think they fit my Impldoll Star dolls best, but they also "flooded" (what we used to call too-short slacks back in the day, LOL.

The second are a pair of linen pants made for the F65 (Fairyland Feeple 65 girl) and I'm shocked! Except for the length being a little long, they are pretty much a perfect fit. I got them from GlamouriaDollClothes, and I see i need to buy more!

The third pair are a pair of hiphop stretch sweats from acbjd.com and look at their shape, you can't get safer than those, LOL

Would you believe the 4th pair are a pair of American Girl shorts? I need to try these on my Supia65 body, I bet they'd fit perfect! Oh wow, I just did, they fit perfectly!

And the 5th pair are Sartoriaj Iplehouse SID suede shorts (artificial of course) with a tie up the back. I didn't spend the time making the tie nice and even, sorry, but another good fit.

So in conclusion, I think you're safe with things that fit Iplehouse SID and Fairyland F65 for bottoms, not necessarily tops They are very different shapes on tops, so fitted things might not work out??

    38. @IngieBee WOW thank you so much! On break at work now but I will look at everything when I get home. You are a lifesaver! I'm used to the more standardized old school BJDs, so I definitely need to brush up on my sizing.

EDIT: I just purchased a pair of SID jeans from an etsy seller. It's a great start!

    39. Well, it helps me too, so I have a record of what to buy and what might be shared :) You're welcome :)

    40. A long time ago, someone was talking and asking about the actual height of dolls, I think it could have been in this thread, and I feel like I said Supia65 was not actually 65cm tall, but I don't know how I was measuring because just now I measured my Rose on the 65 body, and she is 65cm tall!

Just felt I had to put that out there :D

    41. Hello friends! Does anyone know if you can buy separate heads at Supia? There is an option in the section “Body Parts” but it’s greyed out. I can still add my head selection to my cart but again, it’s greyed out.

I’m planning on getting a full Esther but would like to add another head too.

      Thank you for any insight!

    42. @ittybittykittyz the font is the same colour on their full girls, so I think you're fine ^^

      • x 1
    43. Thank you for responding! I’d think it’s available if I can go ahead and add it to my cart, which I can.

thank you for the validation hehe, I’m looking forward to starting a layaway next month :)

      • x 1
    44. Awesome @ittybittykittyz , It's so cool to have two heads, especially when you want to have one made up for "going out" and another for casual. Wish we could buy heads only for other companies :)

BTW, I am fearing that there is going to be a price increase and would love to lock in an order of bodies, however I no longer see how to go about doing layaway. Are there instructions anywhere? Thanks :D

Oh wait, free shipping and price are gone, I'm too late :(

    45. @IngieBee just popped into supia’s site and there’s a renewed dct + shipping option through Feb 5 :dance

    46. Oh, Oh dear, I ended up with unforeseen expenses this month, but it's OK, I really need to wait until my two layaways are finished, then I can move on to other needs :/ :)

      Thanks @ittybittykittyz

    47. I feel you! I was hoping to purchase my lina head, but it's going to have to wait until next month or so, but I'm excited to get it ordered relatively soon!

      • x 1
    48. I would love to order Juah, does anyone know if it’s possible to order the normal make up b but with dark eyelashes instead of white like in the promotional photos?

    49. One can only ask, but I would think they'd be accommodating?

And funds are really tight so I'm glad I did the semi mature thing and held off another purchase @DawnDusk :D

    51. Agreed - I'd definitely ask! @dollfan

Here's a quick photo of Plum, my haeun, in the eyes/wig/accessories for my eventual supiadoll lina head (not sure exactly if the wig or horns will stay in that position though), and Plum with their new outfit (which is really just their robe over leggings and a crop top type situation, lol, but I'm glad it finally arrived!

      • x 1
    53. Thanks! Haha, yeah, the black is their normal look! I was just trying on the pink and such to see what it would look like. I'm getting the lina head for the pink wig/eyes/etc. in NS, so I figured a haeun would be closer in styling than my tan juah lol.

      • x 1
    54. I just received my Juah today. Not sure if it’s lighting or not (I turned on all the light and they are bright day light) but she’s kinda yellow than pinkish as I had hoped. Also her body (65cm) is very loose and can’t hold the poses. She’s my 2nd SD and I’ve never restring any doll so don’t know what to do now :(

    55. Oh no, I'm sorry to hear your out-of-the-box experience hasn't been great so far! I'm still waiting on a Juah myself so I can't comment on the resin tone. Is she painted? Maybe some body blushing would help negate some of the more yellowy tones.

It's discouraging to receive a doll and have it not pose quite as intended, but please don't be daunted by restringing. It definitely seems way scarier than it really is! I'm gonna link you to the tutorial on DoA (/tutorials/bjd-restringing-using-ribbon-threading-techniques.70/), but there are also many restringing videos on YouTube (AsenvaBJD has a good one if you're not familiar with her). If that doesn't seem to help with posing, sueding or wiring could be an option for you too.

Again, I apologize as I have no experience with Supias yet, but I definitely found my SD+ dolls more difficult to wrangle. Rarely does a doll come to my house and not require a little bit of adjustment! I just chalk it up to being on par for the course, plus also personal preference (I actually do like my dolls slightly floppy, generally speaking). Good luck on finding a solution that works best for you and your new girl. I bet she's beautiful, despite her flaws!

      • x 3
    56. Thanks @Sandwich it’s just that I saw her poses in promo pics and hoped she could pose like that right out of the box. I’ll check her skin tone again in day light to see the real colour because every owner of supia says their normal skin tone has pink undertone. I checked some youtube videos too and think I could restring her later.

My 1st SD came tightly strung so I’m surprised this time since I have heard Supia strings their dolls tightly. Maybe because she’s too big. But yeah I’m hoping to gain to love her more once I string her again

    57. @Quinn.nnp - I think some of the poses in those promos were likely accomplished through some staging/photoshop (what I mean is that while the body can be put into those positions, I don't think they can always stand in those positions unaided so likely the dolls were held up by strings and those were removed in photoshop or perhaps there were elements holding the dolls in place or something. I also think that depending upon how loose she is, it might be hard to manipulate her right now (I also found it took me a bit of practice to figure out how to move my supia girls around even though I've had BJDs before -- they just had more mobility than I'm used to, lol). They might've sent her loose to avoid the joints cracking, but it definitely sounds like you'd prefer her to be a bit tighter, which can be daunting and can take some practice, but I know you can do it!

In terms of the color, I used to have an NS supiadoll lina head from around 2010 and it was fairly yellow-pink/peach, and my NS haeun from 2020 is a very similar color: definitely yellowish with a pink undertone. I would say that supia NS tends to strike me more as peach than a true pink (and I've had some VERY pink dolls in the past, like dream of dolls, for example). But it's certainly possible that the coloring of the resin might be slightly different depending upon the batch/who is casting her dolls.
