Supia Girls Discussion Thread Part VIII

Feb 17, 2018

    1. you just reminded me, I was going to make my own risers out of 4x4 wood surrounded by 1x board to cup it (screwed together. I bought plastic "heavy duty" plastic ones before, and they broke after a few years.

      • x 1
    2. i have the plastic risers for my bed. I don't store doll stuff under there though - it's all comic boxes (both long and short) and they're all full. And only the new stuff from the last few years. The old stuff is all upstairs. The really new stuff is in piles all over my room and the house because I don't have anymore room under the bed XD

@TatterPunk I think you could find space for an Ariel! Doooo iiiittttt

@IngieBee that's great about the camera!! It doesn't sound that bad...and if it's only $40 to fix, that's more money you can spend on a decent lens down the road.

EDIT: omg I was just looking at that guys action figure setup. That's a crazy amount of work. I follow a lot of figure photographers on instagram - so many people people make sets and props for 1/12 figs (marvel legends size). I actually asked a few if they'd size up for dolls and only got one answer from one of them - no. Bigger is not better in some cases XD

    3. I got a wood slat bed frame a few years ago for our guest bedroom. You don't need a box spring with it so it gives you almost fourteen inches of space under the bed!

      • x 1
    4. You know, I really need a new bed, maybe that'd be the way to go @nancy_schroeder_ca ! Been wanting to try out a foam bed anyway :D

    5. Hi everyone! I have a question - do you know about any sellers that sell clothes which would fit to Supia 65 double jointed body? I was hoping she could share clothes with my large Iple girls, but nope, her proportions are too different.

    6. @Sillion yah, her bum and hips are too big for anything I know of. Luckily, my girl is wearing an outfit by Katushka_Nitok called Katushka style on etsy, which is OMGosh gorgeous fantasy. It is skirted, so non-fitted. I think she made it for EID size. I've tried other things on her, but no pants I have fit. Alice's does have a selection of clothes that can be custom ordered. You send them the measurements of the doll. The more accurate, and more measurements, the better. You'd have to ask if what you like can be custom ordered. Here is my girl, I just love her :love

      Supiadoll

I actually have a pair of pants I forgot about that fit her, but only because the maker makes her SID jeans big. Too big for my liking.

    7. @IngieBee Thanks for the tips! Actually, I have some pants she can wear, but they don't fit so it doesn't look satisfactory. And she has longer legs compared to Iple girls, among others. But today, I found out that one pair of boys artificial leather trousers are good fit to three of my large girls including Heeji (while they are too big for the boy for whom they were meant to). But for me, it seems that the tops are usually bigger problem than the trousers. I'd love to have nice blouses for my girls and fitting tops...
Your girl is a beauty! Mine is tan skin as well.
My lovely Heeji (I named her when she arrived and forgot the name immediately):

    8. LOL, that's so funny @Sillion , I'm so bad with names, I actually have a life long issue with remembering names inherited from my mother's side of the family (almost all of them do it, and there are a lot of aunts and uncles, ROFLMAO) so I don't rename my dolls. I did, I have a list of their names, but unless I reference that list, I don't remember what I named them! So I kind of have given up. They are named their sculpt name, unless I do a comic with them :P I love that onesie on your Heeji, she is gorgeous! I wish tan didn't cost so much more, because I think it elevates all dolls to another level when I see one in tan. I'd love to have all my dolls in tan or darker! LOL. What can I say, I'm of such an old generation where tan was healthy looking. Now we're supposed to stay out of the sun.... ugh!

    9. I just ordered a Esther on the ballerina body; does anyone know of shoes that fit the ballerina feet?

      • x 1
    10. Do you mean the actual ballet pointed toe feet? No, I don't. I think her regular feet will fit normal SD size shoes though??

    11. Thanks @IngieBee - yes I did mean the pointed toe feet but good to know about the other feet too! I wonder what the wait will be like....

    12. When I got my supia65 body when it first came out, Supia sent me a pair of slippers, but they were too large. Probably something that didn't work out for them?

      • x 1
    13. Her body is not Supia (it's Dollmore) but Murielle (Ariel) has claimed it as hers permanently - I gave her a tattoo - a temporary one I bought for her - and freckles so she looks more like she belongs on it. The lack of freckles when she had so many on her face bugged me

[IMG]Supia dolls ariel by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

They don't match 100% but in my defense, I did them in like 15 minutes last night while it was dark and raining lol

    14. Anyone knows current resin matches for Supia doll? I would love to make a hybrid

    15. @deathdoll , Fairyland is almost an exact match. I have the new ballerina body and Feeple65 hands which I just took a picture of. I received the ballerina body ... ops, I didn't realize I almost had her a year already, December 2019! And I received the Fairyland doll last week.

    16. Hello!

I was wondering if anyone had photos of Juah and Rosy together? Or could point me to some?

I've been looking but can only seem to find photos of each of them alone.

    17. I would love to have a Juah, but I only have a Rosy, sorry!

    18. Ooooh the Esther sculpt is adorable. Because of her, I am seriously considering adding a Supia to my collection in 2 or three months.

From what I’ve read, Supia can take about 8 months to deliver dolls? I’d love for anyone with firsthand experience to chime in :)

      • x 1
    19. I’ve been so curious about how people feel about Feeples vs Supias! Would you mind sharing your thoughts overall on the two bodies?

    20. Feeple, Fairyland dolls MSD size and up in general, are absolute horrible posers. My F65 can't sit and is horribly top heavy, but it's a pretty body (once I get her standing). I specifically got a Supia body for a dancer character. She poses beautifully. I actually just ordered her the ballerina body as an upgrade for even more dancer posing.

    21. Hi @ittybittykittyz gosh that's hard to say. Gosh, if it's OK to be frank, I'll list what I don't like I suppose, because the aesthetics is so personal, it's really not the same for everyone. OK

Supia DJ 60 body = although I love the look of this body for some reason (I think it's the cute boobies, LOL) their knees never really looked straightened to me and they are desperately hard to stand as their lower waist joint moves very easily and they collapse. On the other hand, they are nice and relaxed, easy to pose naturally. I'm certain that if I got off my lazy butt and sueded them, they'd be fine, butt I haven't done that with either of my DJ60 bodies yet I'm playing with one now, she can even cross her legs to sit even so she has no thigh mobility joint. Her Upper joint arches really well, slouch is a little less, but with hip,, not bad when sitting. Yah, the more I play with them I realize I haven't sueded her because I do like that they are so easy to move. Heck, if you ever get a Hannah, you can't help but love her because she's always so happy to see you :D (sorry irrelevant, LOL) Teddybear hugability 1-10 is a good 8 (pretty soft, doesn't poke you :D)

Supia Ballerina body is much easier to stand (probably tighter in stringing as well) a little more mechanical in feeling, as she has more joints, and is less ... floppy, but not just in the tightness of the sting, more in the fitting of the joints being more exact I think she is better at sitting cross legged holds up her arms better in many positions and her thigh mobility joints allow her to sit with her knees up. she has more "settings" to hold positions in places like the mobility joint or thigh balls lock into place. So more of a mechanical feel. Teddybear hugability is a good 6 (stiff)

Supia 65 body is almost exactly the same as the ballerina body, except heavier/bigger / stronger resistance to manipulation due to weight/tigher/bigger strings etc... though mine has loosened up a bit over the time I've had her (when did they come out?) Yah, same body abilities just harder to implement. slightly better huggability than Ballerina body due to looser joints :D

Fairyland Moe is really hard to beat in posing. aesthetically less realistic. I've gotten used to the styling now that I'm not stuck with only this look and can really appreciate the body now. Feet are difficult to find shoes for but luckily my little country tom boy is happy to run around bare footed. Small dolls, only 54? cm tall though still SD. Fits lots of SD clothes, but usually length is a bit long Teddybear hugability score 10! They just .... are so ... like holding a little person, LOL

Fairyland 65, just got my Ingrid. She is tight, she squeaks, LOL, she CAN sit nicely, but it's hard to push back her legs to lock them into sitting position and they'll pop out. Upper chest doesn't hold a slouch, needs sueding to make it hold I'd think. Holds an arch really well. no lower joint, different aesthetic than Moes and only comes in big boobie size. Both dolls have the prettiest elbow and knee joints you'll ever see. This body isn't as posable as the F60 but I prefer it's size and aesthetics personally I wish they had more hands for them, only 2 sets are available. The heeled feet are magnetic with a lock, very nice to take hands and feet off for dressing or super easy switch from heels to flats. F60 does this too but has more hand sets available.

My interpretation of how they look:

Supia 65 = strong and powerful and statuesque
Supia Ballerina = sorry, I don't see a ballerina in her?? Maybe I don't know what a ballerina really looks like, but she has nice big hips as well as the 65, Both look good sculpture wise IMO
Supia DJ 60 has a longer body, and her perky little boobs make her look younger to me. I like the longer length of the body, but not being able to stand her up, it's hard to show! LOL
Feeple MOE is very short, with a shoulder width that isn't matching realistically to the size of their heads giving them that cutesy look. I've always wanted realistic adult dolls and when I got into this hobby, this was the best kind of thing you could get. Now that my desire for realistic adult dolls has been satiated, I come back to these dolls with a new view, and really find them adorable and full of personality. Unfortunately, I have no SD fairyland boys.
Feeple65 is aesthetically like a runway model with big knockers, LOL. She's pretty tall (not as tall as Supia65, as she's only maybe 62cm tall) but compared to F60 moe, she's tall. and has a more realistic head size, which I love. I knew kind of what to expect from this doll, as I have some Chicline dolls which are small versions of these, and though my big Ingrid is a little harder to pose than a MOE , I think she's awesome.

      Anyways, I hope that helps??

    22. Thank you so much for sharing! Seems from your comments and others I’ve read that Supia is more graceful/natural than the Feeple bodies.

I love your dolly’s outfit by the way!

    23. A runaway model with big knockers :XD:

Thank you SO much for this detailed comparison! This was very useful, especially the descriptions of posing! I was most curious about this aspect.

It sounds like both models would be a wonderful addition to my collection, yikes :XD: I started thinking about Feeple precisely because of Ingrid. Good to know she only comes with big boobs hahaha.

I think down the line I’ll add them both to my collection. Perhaps a nice long layaway is in order here.

Thank you again for your generous review! It’s really hard to evaluate dolls from pictures or even video, so your firsthand experience is very much appreciated :)

    24. I dunno, I find every doll body has it's pluses and minuses and it totally depends on what you want them to do. I'm glad that this hobby has matured so much that there are hundreds of companies/artists and choices. I love the variety :D

      • x 2
    25. @Girrl fabulous dancer! I have to agree with you about the posablility of the F65, she has such an extreme back arch it's hard to make her sit up. She looks good lying down though.

@IngieBee , thank you for the great comparison review. I love that you have a huggability score!

      • x 1
    26. Thanks so much for this comparison! I also love the huggability scale. I am torn between Xaga doll and Supia, so such a detailed review is so useful. Thanks for reminding me that it is also important what a doll is like to hold/ pose. It’s not just about looks, but when you’re preordering on the internet looks are all you have to go on, so your information about what the dolls are like hands on is so helpful.

      • x 1
    27. Yah, hugability seems to go up when they are difficult to pose due to slippery joints, except in the feeple60 MOE, LOL But if you're into photography, you want that posability, and I WANT to be into photography, but I think I'm too impatient and don't have a good eye for detail (until AFTER I put the camera away and look deeper at the pictures :doh I seriously need practice! And to work on my eye :XD:

    28. I havn't shown my Muse for a looong time, so here she is:

She's on Volks SDgr body with loongsoul hands.

      • x 11
    29. Hahaha isn’t that always the case??

I feel the same way, I notice errors when I’ve put stuff away too. That’s good though! It means you’re being analytical and you’re continuing to catch details and learn. Eventually you’ll be able to notice them before you take the picture (that’s what I tell myself anyways :XD:)

      • x 1
    30. Wow! W'hat a wonderful day of the dead faceup! Is Muse perhaps an old time witch/pagan/druid? Gosh I hope none of those words are PIC, not intended, just points and people in history to me!

    31. @IngieBee Thank you ! In fact her character is a demon, not a human witch or something like that :) (I know it's not very original but well... I have tons of non human characters !)

    32. Oh no, that's really cool :D I think she's stunning, love the faceup, and the dress is gorgeous!!! @Follow-the-Wind

    33. She is so cool looking! Her face up is amazing and I love her outfit. Do you mind my asking who did her face up? Thanks for the picture!

      • x 2
    34. Wow! That is amazing! It is so cool to have a doll that is also a work of art you have created. I have a long term goal of learning to do face ups. I love to paint, but my hand tends to be shaky when I do detail work, so I am terrified of doing a face up.

    35. Me too, and what we both need to do is practice until we ingrain in our muscles the movement that creates the lines, etc... we want to create because thinking about it and aiming, etc.... just causes the shakes! LOL

      • x 1
    36. @Babette Thank you! As @IngieBee said, you just need to practice. A lot, maybe, but steady hands comes with practice. I'm making dolls' faceup for more than 10 years now, and at the beginning it wasn't very nice, haha!

      • x 2
    37. Thank you both so much for your advice and encouragement! Practice is key for everything, especially if it’s something you’re nervous about! By the way, I really appreciate the kindness shown to a newbie like me on this website; I feel like that’s really unusual.

      • x 1
    38. Gosh I hope we're nice :P If doll people can't be nice then where can ya go? Oh, and like I said above, I need to sit and practice too, and one of the things someone somewhere suggested was to practice the strokes on a head cap, it's the right size and material and I thought that was a good idea, I should be doing that. But you'll probably still want to give it a layer of acrylic varnish to protect the head cap and give it the same texture. If you live in the USA, Winsor Newton brush cleaner will clean everything off so easily, so starting over shouldn't be a headache. I understand that it's not as good in Europe or UK, not same ingredients. It's expensive, but you only need a little at a time, and it's so much more gentle to your heads than scrubbing. I use a soft toothbrush, dip it into the WN and scrub, it takes a little time for it to sink into the paint, but once it gets going, it just melts the paint off. Need good air to use it, though. I just add a drop or so more WN and keep scrubbing till it's clean, then I use soap and water to clean off the WN.

And eyebrows, use fine artist watercolor that comes in tubes like Daniel Smith Watercolor and thin it out, as others say, to the thickness of milk (4% not skim) LOL and not only will it go on smoothly, you can take a q-tip and a tiny bit of water and clean up, even just one stray stroke! When you're finished and you spray the head with the acrylic varnish again, it'll be permanent and it doesn't react badly.

It took me years to figure this out! That's why I always share those two tidbits of info to anyone trying to do faceups. :thumbup Hope this helps!

    39. Ooooh thanks for the tip on diluting to the consistency of milk. My first faceup ended up looking like a raccoon because my paint was too thick :kitty1

      • x 1
    40. LOL @ittybittykittyz , yah, ask anything, I'll tell what I know (not necessarily what I'm capable of, I'm still quite bad at faceups) My latest faceup has my gorgeous new doll looking like she has caterpillars crawling under her eyes, ROFL :D

      • x 1
    41. Had anyone talked to Supia about making there newer bodies a two piece torso like they did the 65cm. I absolutely love the body but that waist joint aesthetically unappealing to me.

      • x 1
    42. normally, I'd agree with you aesthetically, but I use the waist joint in my current Supia body extensively for posing, and upgraded to the Ballerina body because of the expanded range of poseability. The waist joint is really key to that increased range of movement the body was specifically designed to achieve. On my current Supia body (double jointed 60cm) the waist joint is right where the waistband of her jeans sits and is virtually invisible when she's dressed

      • x 2
    43. Thanks. Does the ballerina body come with large bust automatically?

    44. I haven't received it yet, so I can't say for sure. There was no option for selecting the bust size when I ordered (not sure if that's changed?) but it looks like the large bust based on the pictures

    45. Yah, I think it's only one bust size @Holiday, but I gotta say, they're aren't antigravity huge balloons, LOL Not at all as they're flattened. I'd call them medium size and even in the BJD world, Medium/small

    46. lol ok thanks. I do like my girls to be busty.

    47. These are very natural, it's what i like best about Supia Dolls And they sit lower than what you'd see on say, a Fairyland doll.

    48. Hey guys, what's the wait times like from Supia at the moment? Good (3 months), okay (5-8 months) or long (9+ months)? Cheers

    49. I haven't ordered in a few years, but normally they used to be about 4 months. This is usually a good time of year weather wise, but Chinese New year is also around the corner delaying things a little usually. Have you checked out the waiting room thread? Actually, the waiting list looks sparse, but also like shipments were quite fast???

    50. @IngieBee Ah thank you, i’ll have a look! I’m just hoping to avoid a dollshe length wait period, haha. It’s heartening to hear that that’s not the case.

    51. Unfortunately, I can't say for sure in these times, but I think they are OK. I hope someone else will speak up here with more recent experiences???

    52. I ordered early November.... haven't heard anything yet. I am hoping (based on no evidence whatsoever) to have my Esther in April; will give updates when I get them

    53. I think you're safe @ajmailey :) And I think it'll arrive before Chinese New Year, fingers crossed and thumbs pressed :D

    54. 4 months seems about right. :)

    55. i don't suppose anyone knows if supia normal or white resin matches with doll family Hs resin colours? i love supia girl heads but i'm not really into their bodys and would love to hybrid

    56. I think I have Doll Family A Susu in white, and a Supia in white, does that help? I think I've heard their resins are differrent (DFA and DFH) @Enchiridion

    57. @IngieBee if you could show a comparison between them that would be super useful!
