Supia Girls Discussion Thread Part VIII

Feb 17, 2018

    1. @The Art Dolls She's amazing! And that wig is really something!
The sitting trouble seems to be solved - there was a knot stucked inside obviously impeding, I moved it a bit and she can sit (although in a very special way due to the upper thigh joint shape :-))

Another question - where can I find fitting outfits for the 65 cm body? I thought she would share things with my SID, HID and Fantasia large girls but her body is so different that it doesn't work. Particularly, her legs are longer and torso shorter. And waist thinner and hips larger...

      • x 1
    2. Yes, it's hard to find something with those hips, @Sillion . My girl has a fantasy outfit on from Katushka Style on Ebay (she's also a DoA member. She makes amazing clothes for several dolls, but even this one was made for an EID, I believe. Of course, you won't have any trouble with very stretchy and loose fitting tops and dresses, but pants.... no, it will be hard. I think you'll need to commission for pants of any sort :(

      • x 1
    3. Does anyone know if these slight bumps/unsmooth sculpting on the legs of 60cm body are normal? I can only notice them in low light or light from one source. I put her in my photobooth and everything was so bright that I could not see the slight bumps.
edit: Thank you all for your help, I have contacted supia about the leg issue. I noticed it was just on the 2 lower legs and 2 hip joints.

    4. Which body is it @juumou ? I don't recall any of mine looking like that, I just checked my Ballerina body, but that has different knees...?

    5. @IngieBee It is the double jointed 60cm body

    6. Can't get to mine at the moment, I pulled out my back :doh hope someone checks sooner, but I've got to say I don't recall any waviness??

    7. Mine are very smooth except for some very minor parts on the foreheads. I think you should ask Supia whatโ€™s going on there.

    8. @juumou , I did get up and look, curiosity got me, and I didn't have the best light, but I couldn't see ripples. I mean, they have a slight flat spot where a seam was sanded, but that's it. My 60 db bodies do not like to stand at all, and their knees are always somewhat bent, yours look possibly straighter?? Could they have reworked them? I do love that body though, it's just so cute!

    9. I started a Supia Ballerina Body- What fits? thread if anyone has anything to add in there. I'll be trying things on and posting some photos there once some time to do so.

      • x 2
    10. Oh, thanks @TatterPunk I'll go put down what I've gotten on mine so far :D

    11. I LIED! I was pulling out shoes to put on the what fits the ballerina body thread, and I found my point feet! LOL When I bought my S65 Dreaming eye Rosy, I got a pair of point shoes as a gift, though they are way too big for the Ballerina body. Still, they would be super easy to make, and I think I ought to give that a try :D !!!

    12. It turns out I hybrid-ed my Juah head onto the Dollshe 26f body and reshelled Rue. I like her much better now, and even did her tattoo finally! Now I just have to make wings. . . that's gonna be a feat.

    13. Your tattoos are always so amazing @TatterPunk I love your Juah, she's gorgeous there! Is she alive? LOL, is she part of the same story you have going with the FID dolls?

      • x 1
    14. Thank you! She's in a different story from the FID's since she's in a different scale and all. Rue is a fallen angel posing as a human, since she's got nothing better to do really. She works as an alternative fashion model. I plan to make her some wings soon, though I need to figure out the best method for doing so still.

    15. @TatterPunk I'm playing an Aasimar Sorlock in AL, so I've been looking into wings as well. I want to make some that fold, ROFL, and there are a lot of people who have made such wings for cosplaying, which makes great inspiration, though mine won't be motorized, LOL.

    16. I'm thinking I may make them jointed. The construction will probably involve Milliput, drinking straws, craft foam, and eyes. Three sections for the sort of frame with feathery detail sculpted in, then craft foam for the long feathers. I will have to mod her bust piece for it though, so that'll probably have to wait till I can get a second one. . . or till my Dollshe Amanda gets here . . eventually.

    17. Ooooh, you are hard core! I was just going to wrap it around her arms, LOL :D I do hope you'll remember to share when finished :D :thumbup

      • x 1
    18. Definitely yes. :) Sorry for my broken English.

@TatterPunk Your Juah is so unique and beautiful!

My Nora (Nael) is blank for now.

    19. @Arengil She is looking good :D A little pale, but adorable none the less :D I just looked at the newer pictures of Nael and I can see that dimple on the chin there on the site now, but in the older pictures, I never knew that was there I need to spend more time pouring over all the new pictures because I really like their new faceup styles :D

      • x 1
    20. @IngieBee Thank you. I have a lot of work to do with her blush and faceup and tattoo... Just have more time for BJDs.

      • x 1
    21. @Arengil I think I've been getting better at faceups and have a bunch of dolls I want to redo as well. But tattoos are way out of my wheel house! They are so intricate!

    22. She's great @TatterPunk! I love the style of your dolls! That shirt is amazing, did you make it too? Awesome!!!

    23. Thank you! Hilariously enough, that shirt is a sock. Or WAS a sock. They got holes and I needed to do something with them. . sooo tube tops! The hoodie is a Dollmore hoodie which I split up the front and serged the raw edges on. Pants are Dollmore Model. Belt is. . surprisingly an old Iplehouse JID belt. No idea how that fits.

    24. LOL, wow! I have some old children's clothes, some sequined some lace, lots of colored t-shirts and instead of tossing them out, I'm planning on making clothing. But although I have basic ideas, I am stuck, mostly afraid, LOL. I gotta go for it! Just do it, I keep telling myself, but here I am on the forum again, LOL

      • x 1
    25. I was going to sew more today, myself. . but my headache has decided otherwise. Bright side I'm mostly caught up on things, so I just need to tidy up all my fabric this Sunday and then I can figure out some new clothes for Rue and Wendy. And NOT buy more dolls.

      • x 1
    26. I would have been a good girl this whole year if a company hadn't brought out a special doll type that I've been wanting with a new head that I fell in love with. I think I'm lying to myself though... I think I bought heads this year?? I'd have to check when those arrived, LOL

      • x 1
    27. lol I am BAD. I have my ones I'm waiting for of course from Dollshe, and then of course I bought the Juah, who got split into two dolls (body went to a modded Zaoll Muse head, and of course the head went to Rue) and my two boys (who honestly I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get since the Namonaki Mads Mikkelsen sculpt was not made anymore, and then Granado Uriel. . . so yeah. .) So many hybrids. . but THEN during my No-buy month I went and ordered another whole doll which is still top secret. And NOW I'm trying not to want an Iplehouse nYID again. . . not to mention Ariel and Esther (though I'm being good so far there). AAAAAAAAAAAa I just want all the dolls.

    28. Oh well, the Karma from being bad and buying a Dollshe is balanced out by the virtues of being patient LOL, so no problem there. Looking around my room, er... 2 kids left home, it's now rooms, I got no foundation to say you shouldn't buy all the dolls.... as a matter of fact, I think that'd make a good bumper sticker "let me buy all the dolls":dance:cheer:dance:shudder

      • x 1
    29. Yeah, if I had more space, I would have about a million more. (though I suppose technically I DO have a million more, I just won't see them for another year). At least I have ten dolls worth of patience karma!

    30. @TatterPunk - Omg, your juah looks so awesome! I love the size eyes you have in her -- what size are they?

I'm planning for my juah to be a NB character and prefers to dress more androgynous, and now that I've seen your juah, I'm glad I picked that sculpt!

    31. I'll have to measure them. . I made them without really paying attention to the actual size they were lol. -goes to get caliper-
Okay, looks like the ball is 15mm and the iris is 6mm. So generally the same as the small iris 14mm's I've got. Which was what I was going for.
Juah works VERY well for NB, Rue (my Juah) is a fallen angel. She generally goes by female pronouns and the like just because it's easier, but she's pretty much androgynous in her natural form. I'll be modding her bust piece down once I can get an alternate one for her. . . which of course means redoing the tattoo T__T but that's okay.

      • x 1
    32. Oh awesome!! I have a few different 14mm pairs planned for them (still deciding on colors once they arrive, haha). I have more 16mm for my Haeun and a couple 14mm in case the 16mm is too big, but I wanted their eyes to look a bit different. I'm glad juah can pull off the 14mm size without a bunch of gapping.

You'll have to show your progress! I was considering doing the same to the chest piece, but because I'm getting a tan juah, I'll leave the doll unmodded as I don't trust my abilities in sanding tan resin (I mean, I suppose you could seal/airbrush it afterwards to remove some of the discoloration, but I'd rather not risk it). I'm hoping that through just different kinds of clothing, they'll appear more accurate to the character.

      • x 1
    33. I'll definitely show progress when I get to that stage. Possibly on my instagram, since that's the easiest place to post quick photos. Right now the main project is her wings. I've gotten the sculpted part of them done so far, next I need to drill holes in a couple of the ball joints and then cut the flight feathers out of Eva foam.
My Juah's on the Dollshe 26f body which is Fresh coloured. . . the head is white, but I airbrushed it to match. It's easier to do that with a head rather than something that's gonna have clothing rubbing or a joint rubbing on it though. Dying is usually better for that. I avoid having the need to dye things if possible lol.

    34. @TatterPunk you have a real gift for styling. She looks wonderful!

    35. Hello! I would like to share my "new" girl - she's an Ariel I've actually had since 2014 but not done much with. She was Poison Ivy for a bit but wasn't working for me like I wanted. Now I've managed to transform her into a character of mine that also hasn't been working for years - now they're both perfect! XD

    36. She's so adorable! I love her faceup.

    37. Thanks!! I know right? My luck is good for a change XD

Thank you! I think I need to go on and blush her body to match her face now...it needs freckles. I was going to let her share a body, but I bought some snake tattoos for her. So it's going to be hers permanently.

Also I found my DSLR XD so here's a pic not done with my phone!

    38. Awesome, @VampireAngel13 , that picture is super detailed, I love it! I just won an auction for a broken canon dslr, which I hope to fix, just need a lens.... but I'm sick of my horrible photography and want to see if I can do better?!?!?!?! I'm kind of mechanically/electrocircuits inclined and hope I don't need to solder, LOL, but it's likely the circuit board :doh It's worth it to replace the board though, at the price they go for, I just don't have $$$ ugh!

      • x 1
    39. Thank you! Oh that's exciting! I am very lucky, my dad was into photography (as a total amateur, but he still liked it) and gave me mine when I expressed interest in taking better doll photos. He just moved, and gave me the rest of his stuff so he didn't have to move it, so now I have a spare and a really old one, but mine has worked great all these years. It's a canon too (30D), but I have a lot of lenses I like to play with. Still, my biggest skill is not photography, but photoshop XD
I hope you can fix the camera easily! They are so much fun to play with. I've missed using mine.

    40. Me too, it should arrive tomorrow! I have no lens for it, ROFL, I'm thinking of just getting a converter for my old film lenses and using those for now. I really want to try out autofocus though, ROFLMAO, I'm so old. I used to love photography, but like most things in life, I don't seem to have an artistic eye, or else I'm too impatient. Most of my photos were taken late at night propped up against something, just because I felt like taking a picture, but they're all pretty awful! LOL

I hope to change this! But this is not the camera's fault. I am hoping I can get inspired though, with using effects, maybe I'll take more time if I know I'm going for something other than a snapshot (shrug) I've been wanting a DSLR since they first came out, but .... life :D

    41. I'm definitely to impatient for photography. I fiddle with the settings, then take a bunch of photos and I'm done. I don't do anything fancy. And I almost never take real pictures of my dolls anymore. My apartment isn't...there's no where to take pics. The yard is ok for somethings, but I have neighbors. And most of my dolls characters are city-dwellers and I have issues putting them in a nature setting XD Using my phone gives me the excuse to just shoot a crappy pic of a doll to show it off and not bother with anything nice.

Hey, having a camera is an important step toward taking photos! You're half-way there!!

One last pic of my girl just to keep it on a Supia subject. I bought her some new clothes already from rRabit, and according to tracking they should be here tomorrow! She's brand new and has more clothes than some of my years-old dolls.

    42. I love her shrug, is it a shrug? or a scarf? The lace adds so much to the outfit :D

    43. @IngieBee it's a long lacy vest! From a Volks outfit I was obsessed with back in the day. One of my guys is wearing the shirt right now (as he sits on my desk XD)

    44. It is so simple yet brings the outfit up a notch, isn't that amazing about clothing? I can barely see it in the picture, but see the lace against her shoulders. Love it :)

    45. This is my big problem right now. Otherwise I would have a lot more photos happening.
      Your girl looks amazing!

    46. I have a "green screen curtain" around my cutting table, but it creates 1. a mottled/not straight enough surface, and 2. my phone camera screws up the colors. I haven't really tried to process the pictures I've taken as my table is a mess as I'm doing sewing right now (human size) but anyways, what I'm trying to say is that you can greenscreen the dolls and then place them into other photos. So next time you're in a city, think about how you'd like to place them, and take background photos, it should work???!!!

      • x 1
    47. Oddly enough I have a whole bunch of green screen fabric lying around somewhere. . . I prefer to actually do work with actual props and backgrounds though. I'm not really too good with computer editing, so I like to reality edit as much as possible.

      • x 1
    48. It does! I also happen to love layered clothing, so any time I can add clothes to an outfit I'm happy XD

The green screen thing is a good idea, but I don't get to visit "real" cities often to take photos. I technically live in one, but it's small, without the massive buildings that I would want in say a NY or Chicago setting. And it doesn't help me with indoor, industrial style settings either. So I just do nothing XD I've looked for backdrops that might work for what I have in mind, but I can't find anything like what I want for that either. I did make my own but they're at work and I'm not. and paper, and kind of falling apart.

What I should have done is made more characters who live in a suburban-style setting like I do! ha ha ha no

Thank you! And yeah, I actually am pretty good at photo editing (it's literally my job lol) but it's still a pain. It would be nice to have the space to have a set up at home...but with 60-70cm dolls that's never going to happen XD

      • x 1
    49. I make my sets all modular, so all the background wall things and floors can just be either taken apart or folded up and stored flat. There would be NO space in the one room I have for my things otherwise. So far I've only got the msd sized sets, but I did recently get some display boards for some walls for the 60-70cm dolls. Furniture storage is always a problem of course, but we'll burn that bridge when we come to it. I'm planning to make some things for my larger dolls in the next couple weeks as I'm on Staycation from work finally.

Hopefully I can get some good stuff set up soon for Rue and my other big dolls. . . I really need to get her some frenemies or something (aka other angels).

      • x 1
    50. My roommate wants a room setting for her minis, and I keep telling her to go on and do it, they're smaller, we could find room. But I don't think we have space for 70cm one, even to set it up! And yeah, furniture is a huge problem. My 72cm guy is supposed to be really tall, so scaling furniture to him doesn't really matter, but even finding something that works for a 65cm doll is tough. And when I do find things, it's way too good for any of my characters? I mean average people don't have the kind of stuff I find for dolls. We have things from Ikea XD and some of my dolls have furniture they found on in the trash...so that's never going to happen. And then yeah, where do you store all that stuff?? It's not easy.

I'm dying. I ordered clothes for Murielle from rRabit and it's shipped, but the arrival date keeps getting pushed back (as it does these days). Now it's supposed to be here today but we'll see (Harely is also getting clothes out this order. She's Luts SDF, so off topic here, but I don't think I've ever ordered her anything before so it's exciting. All her stuff is handmade.)

This whole iffy postal service thing is driving me nuts.

    51. Noooo I hate when the delivery dates keep getting smooshed back T__T. Especially with doll stuff (which let's face it is all I really order ever).

As for storage. . . let's see. . . for my floor and walls, I store those flat in between the wall and my dresser. I have a shelf above the dresser where my mini/fashion dolls live along with their window seat, piano, throne, table, and chair (and all the musical instruments). My big dolls (60+) currently are sitting on my dresser until I build them a new shelf. I have more small furniture in my closet. Honestly I have NO idea where I'm gonna store the 10 new ones I will eventually get from Dollshe. . or the big doll furniture. likely I'll just need to make more shelves 0__0.

    52. They came!! I love literally everything I bought, especially the hat. THE HAT. I'm glad I have several Goth Girls in my collection (and Catwoman who totally counts) who can wear this thing, it is that fabulous. She looks good in everything, which is a relief. Dollmore Eve bodies are small and skinny and have a tiny, short waist so they're hard to dress. Hopefully I'll grab some pictures later. I also bought her the sparkly "witch" dress they have. But seriously the hat might be the best thing I've ever bought my dolls.

Yikes, 10 incoming Dollshe dolls??! ha ha good luck with find space for them! You're right, I see more shelves in your future XD
I have quite a few large guys and they're not really any worse to store than 60cm ones tbh. Though mine are all pretty skinny. Batman has his own chair, so he isn't taking up more space than he needs too (my EID. he's the biggest, if not the tallest). Mine just sit around on shelves though, they're not posed nicely. Some of them are on a couch. That's the extent of my shelf posing.

      • x 1
    53. Ain't that just like the Bat to take up too much space though?
I demand to see this hat!!

    54. LOL @TatterPunk and @VampireAngel13 Even being an empty nester, getting a room, I had to make it totally modular, and I added shelves, which are all full already! I have a cutting table, which was a must have with my old back, that pulls down from the wall above my dresser, and it doubles as a "stage" to set up pictures. However, this part needs improvement. I'm sewing right now, so until I finish my projects I probably won't be taking many pictures on the table, but hopefully soon, maybe early next year :D Oh, and shelves for doll furniture, however it gets cluttered and ugly, and I only have a few chairs, lots of boxes, etc...

      • x 1
    55. Yes! lol
I have taken this terrible photo of her in said hat with her hapless victim

[IMG]Untitled by Vampire Angel13, on Flickr

photos don't do it justice though. I had no idea how fabulous it was by looking at the pics on rRabits site and their photos are way better than mine.

Did your camera show up yet??

My question is, where do you find things that you would use as a room? not the structure of it, but the actual...stuff? like, one of my dolls characters lives in a concrete building. Floors, walls, all concrete with a row of windows. I can compromise, but it's not going to ever be a nice-looking living space. So...how do I build that? I have the same problem with furniture. Two of my guys live like college kids, gross found-furniture and messy rooms. I've never seen a couch that looks like it was picked up on the side of the road lol. Maybe someday I'll find something, but for now I just...don't take good pictures.

Except for the one or two dolls I have that can be outside in the wilderness, like this one lol

      • x 2
    56. @VampireAngel13 Yes! My camera showed up, it's shutter is bent up, which is good for me. It requires more work to install the shutter, but it's cheaper, which for me is the best news, LOL $40 for a new shutter assembly and time, I gots the time, but still have to save up the $40 then later for a lens. Still, for under $100 I'll have a T5i / 700D which is an excellent price (no lens, though)

RE: making a room, you can take note of model makers/photographers. They use all kinds of paint techniques and a lot of foam board, destressing, carving, etc...

This is outdoors, but some cool ideas: Collector & Customizer of 1:6 Scale Reveals Methods Used in Action Figure Photography

Also search youtube where you can also find stuff on model making and forced perspective :) Oh , dioramas that's the word to search with :D

    57. Not to enable or anything... but all my doll boxes, and my obscenely enormous yarn hoard, are stored under my bed, which started out lower than the usual height for normal adult sized people (so it would be easier for my elderly rabbit at the time to hop up on the bed) but the bottom is now nearly 3 feet from the ground and will require a step for me to actually climb into bed if it gets any higher. (It's the yarn, it's absolutely the yarn. The doll boxes have yarn in them too. No regrets.) The yarn acquisition has actually been curtailed (somewhat) by dolls because fun money is a fixed resource and even big dolls take up less space than the equivalent $$ in yarn (unless it's the really, really obscenely expensive yarn, but I try not to buy that so much)
ANYHOW. My point is that you can elevate your bed with a couple of cinder blocks and stash a bunch of props, etc., under there

    58. My doll boxes are stored out in the shed. I have actually considered getting some risers for my bed so I could do a bit more with the space. Maybe I'll look into that. Then I could stack the boxes that are currently under there and have some space for some of the furniture. I did manage to get myself a little more storage space for my fabric at least, I have it in towers of those drawer bins (you know the sterilite ones). Two towers so far. One is 9 high and one is 11 high. All separated by color with the silks separately separated by color (-happy sigh-). For me it's all about the fabric lol. My bestie's the yarn one. So that we're not totally off topic, MAYBE if I can get enough space for another 65cm girl (on top of the 10 dolls on order) I will have to get Ariel on the 65cm body.
