SoulDoll Zenith Discussion ~ Part II

Nov 11, 2014

    1. @Dybbuk That's good info you gave us, thanks! His hand looks interesting, I need to go back and see if it is a special part. Do come back and show us your fascinating boy when he's finished, will you? :3nodding:

    2. Thank you both, I can't wait to get him started. Trying to think of ideas for him. :)

@Mandagore : Of course, and yes the hand on the fan was one of those special pairs that interlaces with the other hand. It's very fun and interesting to play with!

I did get a faceup on my old body Shiva, and you can kind of see her half-elf ear mod too. This is Maraiya.

      • x 7
    4. @Rosslyn looking good! It's been a while since I've seen any new photos of Shiva - makes me feel so nostalgic...

I recently restrung and restyled one of their older sculpts, Madalyn, too. The idea was to make a modernized version of fairy queen Titania.

    5. Thanks very much! She's a doll I loved but assumed I'd never find, and then stumbled across by chance at a time when I was able to grab her.
Ooh Madalyn is one of the ones I admire! She looks great like this! I love the fabric choice especially.

    6. Hello all :) I have a Parattisi and need more shoes as well as clothing for her... does anyone have any recommendations for clothing and shoes????

    7. Can you tell us what body she is on? The older body and the one they've begun to use recently have some differences but I am not sure of that will include foot size or not...

    8. I actually have both bodies but I am looking for something that fits specifically the newer version body.

    9. What are your thoughts on the new Swinte version?
Personally I love what they've shown ud so far and that new resin color looks nice too. I just wish the fabric of her dress had less of this cheap shind to it.

    10. I believe that fabric is called satin. Satin was usually made or silk. Today it can be also made of rayon and/or polyester. (The fabric is the type that Volks might use in the Disney Princess outfits.)

The doll is beautiful and Souldoll has some of the best faceup artists going. Nice resin color.

    11. Oh yes I know. I just don't like the look of cheap satin but that's a matter of preference. The shinyness might also look worse on the picture than in real life.

Also I am kinda looking for reasons to say no to her ;).

And yes that faceup looks amazing :love.

    12. That new Swinte is so amazing! They really got some awesome face-up artist - I wish I could send to them some of my old dolls to paint haha

Honestly, every time they get a new doll up I need to physically restrain myself from logging into my Paypal and throwing my money at them *_*

@Reslie congrats on getting Paratiisi - I wish sometimes I got her when she was released. Clothing is a bit of a hit and miss - some supergem soom stuff might fit but only if it is something not too fitted, but will never fit as well as the original souldoll outfits (which are amazing quality and totally worth the money btw)

Shoes... I actually think the feet in both the old body and new body are quite similarly shaped... at least I could fit the same shoes on both. I managed to put some Iplehouse ankle booties on high heel, but not the Aurora sandals (the non-removable chain gets in the way). I don't have them anymore, but I had male Dollzone 1/3 black boots once that fit on the flat feet, so looking into male shoes is definitely an option. rRabit shoes for the size they describe as "HighHeels -1/3Boy/IP Women" fits ok on heel feet (at least the styles I tried on) - a bit snug, but they use a good material that has that little stretch in it, so it worked in the end.

    13. She is utterly divine! Souldoll is knocking it out of the park with these Concept Art dolls each time, and I agree I love their faceup artist... I rarely opt to pay for a faceup since I normally paint my own dolls, but Souldoll is one I would pay for the faceup.

I just put Baby Pink Unicorn on a 6 month layaway, and finishing a Vito Riris fullset layaway so I'm having to abstain from this gorgeous tan beauty but I hope someone will get her and share her. <3

Speaking of Zenith Souldolls, I finally painted my Jio. He's so devilishly handsome! :sneaky

    14. he's wonderful @Dybbuk ! One of my favourite zenith boys :love really like how you painted him - indeed very handsome, ready to break hearts left and right haha

    15. @SolInvictus : Thanks so much! Jio and Bin are definitely my favorites from the Zenith line so far. <3 I really hope more people get them. I've seen quite a few Bin's on Instagram but not as many Jio's. I'm glad you like his look! I was trying to make him more soft and princely like the promo photos... but he seems to want to be more of a bad guy lol

      ...Now I just have to hope and pray Souldoll doesn't release anymore beautiful dolls that I'm doomed for this winter! >_<;

    16. I think I can see hints of both in him... like a gentle demon:D

So far they just opened the option to choose any zenith girl in that new fantasy skin... I really love it on the Elf Swinte and would probably look great on Aspa, but probably not enough temptation for me to buy it:sweat

I wonder if the boys will get a similar option at some point!

      • x 4
    17. @SolInvictus hehe I got him a new outfit that I think really helps his demon like qualities. :) I posted it below.

I agree, I think Aspa would look great in that skin too! It would be cool for the boys to come in a dark dusky tan as well. I noticed that the option for dark sandy brown (color that Quincy came in) is still an option for all the Souldoll Zenith boys. Was that a permament offering?! :? lol I'm totally tapped out... but ugh I would love a tan Souldoll boy one day. That is currently one color I don't have from their company.

I decided on the name Ozul for my Jio <3 It means shadow~ He's totally the current house favorite :chibi

    18. @Dybbuk yes! the outfit suits him well and now he definitely has an evil spark in him haha

And you are so right! Quincy himself just has white and normal but other guys have the dark sandy brown still added *_* I don't think they would make such a mistake, right? My dolly budget for this year is gone so I'm not going to order anything for a while, but I have no doubt they will think of some new dolls next year that will test my will...

    20. If you look in the parts section on the site, they offer each set of hands where you can look at separate pics of them from different angles.

Swinte comes with set 2 by default. In the dropdown menu on Swinte's page, they do offer a 2 or 3 set option for the hands and they offer in normal, white and moonlight brown.

If you just want set 1, you would have to ask Souldoll to see if you can swap out set 2 for set 1 OR for extra 25, you can get set 1 and set 2 (you would specify in the notes when you place an order.)

      • x 2
    21. Thanks, @Suindo . I chose the hands I like from the body parts page. Understand set 2 as default. Posted question about #1.
So answered my own question. (My entire post disappeared when I saved my edit.) I think the hands are confusing & should be shown on the sales page.
I'm stll on the fence about her faceup. Very dramatic

    22. Soul Doll has some new Zenith boy releases! Ah-In Angel Ver. and Ah-In Urban Style Ver. :ablink:

I quite like the Angel Version... of course. The Moonlight Brown resin is so nicely complimented by the bluish/green pastel colors they used for him. And I love that the angel wings are magnetized and feathery. Sadly I'm just too tapped out at the moment to consider him... even with a layaway. :frownyblush:

Anyone else considering getting him? I hope someone does!

      • x 1
    23. He looks gorgeous. I really love the angel version :love. But they both look great. I hope to see some owner pictures as well eventually.

      • x 1
    24. I really like swinte elf + angel in moonlight, but I'm going to wait ,& request a vito couple in that color. too many big dolls here.

      • x 2
    25. Hello all! I know this has probably already been asked but I don't have a quick way to find an answer by sifting through the zenith discussion threads; what clothes fit a new zenith boy? They're a little awkward in size and I'm not sure which brands will fit comfortably. Any recommendations are much appreciated! :)

    26. I am tempted by the new boy they announced and I wondered how the face ups are?
Are they true to the promotional pictures?

I tried browsing through Instagram to get an idea but since I don't know much about Souldoll I could not really tell if the face ups were from the company :sweat

Do they sell the outfits separately? I love the outfit the most

      • x 1
    27. I'd say that Souldoll faceups are accurate to promo pictures. But they usually do not sell outfits separately. :(

      • x 2
    28. I really like the new Souldoll Daol doll as well. I like his face sculpt, face up, and outfits, but I don't know which Daol I like the best. I wish they would sell the head and outfits separately, so I can save on the cost.

I saw some photos of sandy brown, but I'm not sure if the color is accurate and actually look like that in real life. Is sandy brown a light tan? It looked like a light tan from what I've seen on doa. Are Souldoll tan skin colors consistent or vary in color?

    29. That's too bad, the outfit is so cool.

    30. Hello Souldoll Lovelies,
regarding my posing-issues with my Zenith Girl I've just created a new thread with pictures.

      /threads/souldoll-zenith-girl-poseability-issues.858597/

I've seen that here are other owners who have posing difficulties. I'm not sure, but I think my issue is because Souldoll assembled wrong parts (new chest, old bottom Body). Please check my thread for details and let's discuss this.

I really hope I can find a solution. This body drives me crazy.

    31. Wow, I love Serein! She's gorgeous. I'm very interested to see what her mermaid version will look like.

      • x 3
    32. I'm liking the clear ears and the lavendar color too! I can tell I'm already excited about getting the mermaid body even if I dont want the head lol

      • x 1
    33. I have been looking Souldoll dolls for almost a decade, so I guess it was finally time. :XD: Souldoll has summer event for all orders and shipping fares now so decided to get Aspa pure version. I have heard that they take longer than usual to make dolls during events (which is understandable), how long we are talking?

    34. I'm already sold on the mermaid dolls! Especially since they'll be released during the double discount event. The purple resin is super beautiful...and the other resin looks like it's a baby pink type color? Maybe I'm just being hopeful...their normal skin looks paler in comparison but it's hard to tell in a video if it's just the lighting.

@daeki : I say Souldoll consistently delivers around 5 months, but sometimes shorter if you order directly from them. If you do a layaway or dealer, then it will definitely take longer. They will not start producing your doll until the layaway is finished, and ordering through 3rd party dealers almost always tacks on extra months of waiting since they are placing larger orders with multiple dolls included. Hope this helps! Aspa is gorgeous :D

      • x 2
    35. Thank you Dybbuk :) I ordered from Souldoll website and paid in full so probably around 5 months then. That sounds okay.

      • x 1
    36. I don't have any mermaid dolls and I love fantasy skin colour so my wallet is already afraid haha can't wait to see how what the body will look like! (also, mermaid legs mean no hunting for bigger size shoes needed!!!)

I've been getting all my most current souldolls via layaway so can't say anything about the wait time, I normally get a shipping notice 1 month after paying off 6 month layaway (no faceup).

    37. @solinvictus : My bank account is afraid too! Extra afraid since they made a Kid size mermaid and Zenith size. How will I choose?! :horror: haha

That's odd. When I ordered my Baby Pink via layaway, I did so under the presumption that they started working on the doll during the layaway, but around the 7 month mark, I emailed them asking about her and they told me that they didn't start her until the layaway was paid, so I think I waited around 8 months for her and paid her off in 4 months. I guess it depends on how busy they are too! I feel like they probably got lots of Baby Pink orders. Either way, they're really not too horrible on wait. :)

    38. You are right! if they do both there is also this decision to make - sensibly-sized 1/4 mermaid or full-on zenith-sized MERMAID ... that would be a lot of fish scales to paint haha

That might have been a case they have more orders now - it's been a couple of years since my last doll. I always thought it is because of the limited resin colour I chose - that they wanted to make them all together with the ones that are paid in full... but if I recall your baby pink is the violet one, right?

    39. @solinvictus: That's exactly what I'm debating to be honest. The 1/4 Kid size doll would be more manageable space wise/affordable and match well with my 2 fantasy MSD Soul Doll's... but there is something alluring about a giant mermaid. Sadly, painting it would be a lot of work, and I'm backed up on doll projects as it is. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the face sculpts look like for each girl and figure out which one calls to me more!

And that makes sense too... the fantasy resins probably get done in batches like you said. My girl was in light violet, but I did notice quite a few waiting on her, so I'm sure my order was probably pushed to the bottom of the queue since I was paying her off.

    40. @Dybbuk Yeah, I love SD because there is something really glamorous about their size. The questions would also be about the tail - personally I really hope they would go for more segments instead of one or two pieces - I like when mermaids are able to flop their tails like fish, not just bend at the knee as if only in a costume

    41. I'm also a little unsure if I want the kid or zenith mermaid. The kid size would take up less room and be less expensive but... I really love Serein's sculpt more.

    42. @solinvictus : Great point! It will be interesting how Soul Doll engineers the mermaid tail! They've always been a little bit "out of the box" when it's come to fantasy parts. I know my Souldoll Vito Riris has these hinged wings that allow them to fold (rather than strung/magnetized like other wings). If they go for a fully articulated tail, that would be so cool!!! Although the doll artist in me cries at the amount of chipping related touch ups it would need haha

@InnocentSin : Yes... the choice is difficult... to be practical or totally grandiose. I think both sculpts are luckily very similar...I think that Elfin looks like a mini version of Serein... but maybe more sad/pouty? But it will be better to see them all painted and styled to get a better feel for them.

...and then my naughty brain says "Double the discounts, means double the dolls!"

      • x 4
    43. @InnocentSin both sculpts are beautiful, but I'm also liking Serein face a bit more - at least the human version. I would not be surprised if the mermaid version allowed to get both mermaid and human heads.

@Dybbuk yeah, the chipping might be awful... but I think I would still prefer more segments haha - can't wait for Souldoll to show us more of them!

EDIT: Souldoll uploaded a new video with promo pictures and... NOOOOOOO those are just mermaid-y outfits :(

I see where they are coming from, as this way you can easily change them to just be human dolls and the outfits themselves are pretty, but I really was hoping for a fish tail I could paint and decorate, so can't help but be a bit disappointed (my wallet, on the other hand, is probably very happy lol)

It's a good option though if someone would want some sort of water fairy with those ears.

    44. So Souldoll showed the mermaids on their instagram and they don't have actual mermaid tails at all. I don't know whether to be disappointed or relieved.

Edit: Oops, just looked and they posted here too!

    45. @InnocentSin I'm in the same boat as you - on one hand, I'm a bit sad as I really wanted a fishtail, but on another hand I can be happy I'm saving money on this occasion. The purple skin is very pretty at least even though I would be more tempted if it was grey or blue skin. But I'm sure Souldoll will sooner or later make something to my taste in the future - as they've done in the past ;)

    46. I am honestly just glad as I just put myself on a no-buy until September :sweat. But I do think for a costume solution they did very well and the outfits look amazing.

      • x 1
    47. I saw as well just now!!!!

You know as a doll artist I would have loved to have customized a mermaid tail, but I also love this "no fuss" mermaid outfit (which is beautiful btw) that can give the effect without the headache and upkeep of the painting work.

One of the things that Souldoll stands out to me for is their outfit craftsmanship and this is no exception. I'm also loving the deeper purple color used. I may have to get me an early birthday present lol!

I definitely would have loved to see their take on mermaid engineering but perhaps another time they will attempt it. :)

      • x 1
    48. yes - they are amazing at outfits, and as an alternative to resin parts, they've done them extremely well - the choice of fabric, the way the ruffle starts at the knee, so the bend is not as jarring, and the side fins... I have a couple of their outfits and the quality of sewing in real life will definitely be there.

In general I actually love mermaid silhouette dresses, so at least the promo pics will go to my stash of mermaid dresses pictures haha

The faceups and transparent hands are super pretty as well - if I had plans to own a water fairy doll, I would go for it, but on this occasion I will wait to see what they will come up in the future instead.

      • x 1
    49. @solinvictus : I'm sure they will make more beautiful dolls to tempt us all with! :thumbup And agree how they did the fin with the iridescent ruffles produces a nice illusion.

I really hope the head pieces are part of the outfits. I'm glad the transparent items come with them at no additional cost... but now just to see how much all the rest would cost... :horror:

      • x 1
    50. Despite my initial disappointment I did cave and get a mermaid, Elfin. As much as I love how grand the zeniths are, kids are easier on my wallet. She'll make a lovely sea nymph. :)

      • x 2
    51. Congrats @InnocentSin ! The overall concept and fullset of these beauties were gorgeous. I don't blame you for caving. What color resin did you get for her?? Did you get the outfit too? I really want one too but having a hard time deciding still. UGH!

    52. I'm the same. I dont really want a large doll. But i absolutely adore Serein

    53. Yes please show us when you get her!!

I actually really like that they did human legs. I personally like fantasy aesthetics without fantasy parts if that makes sense

    54. I got her blank in coral purple and I chose not to get the outfit. The outfit's lovely but I have different plans for her look.
I'll definitely show her off once she arrives!

      • x 2
    55. @InnocentSin congrats! She's so lovely and it will be interesting to see her in a different style :3nodding:

Aaah everyone's enthusiasm about those gals is slowly wearing down my resolve not to get any of them down haha I really don't need another doll project...

      • x 2
    56. I'm just checking this thread to see everyone's opinion about the Souldoll mermaids because this will be my 1st Souldoll. I actually have 2 mermaids from AS and their bodies are beautiful. If Souldoll wants to beat that they have to come up with better design, so I'm not that disappointed when they made the outfit instead.

I do like the purple skin, but was hoping it would be lighter like violet. I like the ears too but not sure about the end of the ears. May have to cut that part  I'm actually thinking to make Serein into a butterfly elf :wiggle Her ears don't make me think of mermaid unfortunately.

How is the Souldoll box btw? Is it hard to string the zenith body? The custom in my country is so strict they will take photos and google the name just to find out the real cost, so I'm thinking to have her ship unstrung. But since she's my 1st Souldoll I'd like to get the box and cushion if they're worth it. If the box is too soft maybe I'll forget it.

      • x 1
    57. Welcome to the souldoll family @Quinn.nnp :XD:In terms of stringing the body you are in luck, because Souldoll posted a video on how to do that on their youtube channel:

My personal recommendation is to add like a 1-2cm or so to the length they show, as Souldoll strings their dolls REALLY tight.
I've restringed both the old zenith and new zenith body and it's not super difficult to put them together, but then again I have quite strong arms:sweat... At least for me, it wasn't more difficult than restringing other companies' bodies.

I normally display 1-2 dolls max at a time, so I get dolls in boxes to keep somewhere meanwhile. The box and pillows look very nice, visually, sturdiness comparable with most standard other dolls (the ones I could compare as similar are soom, luts. A tiny bit less sturdy than feeple65 box I have)

I'm still on the fence myself - I got really hyped with the faces and actually started designing on what I would like to do with one, and then got disappointed when there was no resin tail.... but I'm getting slowly turned around...

If I decide to get one in the end, I will go for white skin, as I wanted to make a ghostly mermaid, but Souldoll's unusual resin colours normally are very beautiful and glowy in real life (got few tans and a light blue one) so if you go for the one you will not be disappointed. There is another video on their channel actually that might show the purple a bit better than the heavily photoshopped promo pics:):

I think your idea for butterfly fairy is such a nice concept and would work well with their fantasy parts :D

      hope this helped a bit!

      • x 2
    58. @solinvictus thank you for a detail explanation. I actually asked them for a video on how to dress her so I can decide whether to get the outfit or not haha. If her face isn’t my favorite I’d not considered, but aesthetically I like the sculpt.

When you said Souldoll strings tightly, does it affect the posing? All my doll except Supia strung very tight too but it helps with posing.

I paid the 1st installment but won’t see her until 6mths later as I have so many unfinished dolls right now lol

    59. Jumping in to the convo xD In my opinion it does. When the doll is too tight it gets kicky and unstable. My Souldolls have been so tight that I've been forced to cut the string just to unstring them because I couldn't pull the string out enough to unstring them otherwise. But last time I asked them to not string my doll as tightly and she came perfectly strung.

In the instruction video he's not stringing as tightly as what I've received. That's close to how I measure my string, but he's also using a thinner string than I would use for a Zenith. But as you can see, he can easily hold the string with his fingers while he puts on the hands and feet. That would be impossible with the super tightly strung dolls I've received from them.

I find their boxes sturdy but big. Also very pretty: it has ribbons to hold the doll pillow in place. I'd use them for storage under my bed but unfortunately it's like 2cm taller than any other doll box I have and just doesn't fit under the bed. So yeah, big.

      • x 1
    60. @Yenna I was thinking the same thing. There's no way he can just keep the string with one hand without struggle. I asked my guy friend to pull FL feet for me and it took us a while to do it

I like Souldoll pillow but not sure about the box. And with the box shipping is expensive. Without the box and discount it's only $29 compare to $71. I wouldn't mind but I have to pay separate shipping cost of the head to artist so yeah it will be more than $100

So they will send the doll parts with the strings right?
