Souldoll Souloid discussion part 1

Guys! I had sent an email to SD on the weekend asking if they hadn't sent out my boy yet (I hadn't received a shipping notice and my order status was still pending), if I could change the eyes I bought from 14mm to 12mm. SD replied that they sent him out on Friday and forgot to send me an email with the tracking number. I checked tracking today(of course I did) and it shows that he's already cleared Customs and is expected to be delivered to me tomorrow! Holy cow, that's fast. Totally not complaining about that.

I likely won't be able to pick him up until after work tomorrow and the lighting SUCKS in my apartment, but I'll try and get some pictures of him as soon as I can.

 

I got my shipping email a mere two days ago, and just this morning my mailman delivered my Souldoll box. When dolls arrive that fast, it feels like magic!

But since I have both a Dara and a Lavi now, I thought I'd post some comparison pictures here.

So to start, here's Lavi lording over her box



The first thing I noticed is how much smaller Lavi's head is compared to Dara's



But if you look at the rest of the upper torso, I think they shaved down Lavi a smidge all around. Her collarbone is just that little bit shorter, her shoulders just a touch narrower, her arms are thinner and the arm detail is in a different spot just barely, and I think her breasts are both smaller and slightly closer together than Dara's.





Her robot parts show more noticeable changes. Primarily, Lavi's had the points at her thigh socket/bottom of her butt smoothed down so she has a more.... butt-shaped butt? They no longer stick out at all, anyway. Lavi also had the mesh detail on her hip updated.





Lavi's feet also have an updated design. They're not as pointy as Dara's, and the flare on her ankle sockets has been decreased.




A-aand I've run out of images for the post. Darn it. Oh well, there's not a whole lot left, in any event. Lavi's elastic channels in her shoulder ball are different -- they're a straight channel, instead of Dara's round opening. I also received extra elbow peanuts, for a reason I'm not entirely sure of. The ones Lavi was shipped with look like normal elbow joints, but the extras have that smooth middle like the ones Dara has. Finally, it doesn't show up in the pictures, but Lavi's resin has a matte, toothy texture. I wouldn't call it rough, really, but it is markedly different from Dara's slick smoothness.

Overall, while I'm a little sad Lavi's human parts got trimmed -- to me they don't look like they quite mesh with the robot parts as well anymore -- I generally like the changes to the robot parts. Well, I guess I'd rather have pointy-butt, but I think I understand why it changed, and the feet and the mesh detail look really good! If there's any other pictures anyone wants of these two, let me know!

 

@Tokoz Oh thank goodness she isn't too drastically changed though. But uh, is it just the lighting, or does she have more of a butt crack? (Is there any elegant way of saying that?)

Also, how do you feel about the resin marbling and any seams or sanded spots?

Now I'm just much more excited. You guys, she's real.

 

@britnirose : What you're seeing, I think, is the difference the flattened points make. From what I can tell, the actual line between her, er, cheeks is unchanged.

I barely notice seams/seam sanding at the best of times, so I can't tell there were ever seams on her, honestly. The marbling is in line with what was on Dara. My Dara was heavily marbled, and I think the Lavi I got has less of it than her, however, the kind and form of it is very much the same. So, I wouldn't say the gold body is less marbled on the whole. I do think the marbling is less NOTICEABLE on the gold resin. Let me see if I can get some pictures to highlight it...

Picked up Warrick after work today. Good lord he's gorgeous. Lighting in my apartment sucks and it's dark now when I get home so pic quality is very meh. Hopefully I can get better pics this weekend.

This is Warrick. He's the Titika head with the default face-up (the Phiel head I got blank and it's going to be living in a drawer until I figure out what to do with it). He's wearing MehiArt eyes that I think look fab in his head. He is WS upper and gold mecha. There's not a lot of marbling to him (I wish there was a lot more, but whatever) but I'm really happy with him. I may be adding some tattoos to his chest or arms but I'm not sure yet.

I also got extra elbow peanuts and I have no idea why. I need to make the poor boy some shirts but wanted to wait until I had him so I could get the size right. He's going to be coming in to work with me tomorrow.

 

You know, I think Souloids are the only male body I have ever seriously considered buying. Your Warrick looks AMAZING in the gold resin!

It's great to see the new arrivals, especially photos of the gold resin!

My Phiel is sitting at the delivery office. I'm hoping to pay the customs charges on him today, to get him home tomorrow.

 

I really like the way the gold resin looks. It didn't photograph as nicely as it is but that's likely due to the crud lighting in my apartment and my on-going war with my camera. I don't find the marbling to be all that noticeable and certainly much less than shown in the "warning" photos. I find that it's only really noticeable when the light hits it a certain way. But again, that could be because of the bad lighting in my house and once I get him to a place with stronger light (like when I take him to work today), the marbling will show better.

I love the detail of the mecha body. The tiny screws look real and like you could actually turn them. I also really love the detail of the "spine". Haven't tried to really stand him yet so I'll need to see about that. He's nicely strung and I didn't have to struggle to swap heads, which was very appreciated. The default face-up is just lovely. There's a little more pink to it than I was expecting, which was surprising at first, but I got used to it quickly.

Overall, I'm really pleased with him. He's my 2nd SD doll (I have a Double Ize that I bought 2nd hand and adore) and even without my someday plans to get a Vito, I could totally see me buying another of their boys.

Which souloid did you get that is SD size? I thought these souloids were MSD around 46 cm?

 

I has some marbling on the silver body of my Iraki, but it's only visible in certain lights, and for some reason, it looks fairly natural for a robot body! I don't notice it and when I do, it's fine. I kind of like it, actually.

 

I got my Phiel today! I'm really impressed with the updated body. The extra details are really nice, and the resculpted feet look much less clunky. He has a little marbling, but it's subtle and looks natural. He doesn't have a proper wig or pair of eyes yet. He came with 12mm, but I think the iris is a little large (and I need a different colour anyway).

 

Ahhhh! I'm getting more and more excited. Any other owner photos out there if Phiel or Lavi?!

 

Tokoz - thanks you for all the amazing pictures! I do love that gold color! So pretty. I think, for the marbling, I quite thought it really "fit" for a robot doll, and it didn't distract me at all with my Iraki. I didn't care for the super small head, and wow - making Lavi's even smaller?

I like the new lines of the female body - that pointy bit put me off before, now it looks a little more steamlined. But I can see how some might have wanted the more non-human look, outline.

 

I need some help please with head sizes. Are the souloid heads and human chest parts sized the same as soulkids. soulvito or something else?

I have both a male and a female souloid (diget and lavi) and I'm thinking about doing some head swaps, especially with the head event currently on, but I really can't work out which size would fit best.

As of now, I have 3 souldoll heads, even though I don't have any bodies other than the souloids. In order Diget (souloid male) - is bigger than Yola (vito female) - is bigger than Lavi (souloid female) but all the head circumferences are about the same - the extra size is in the head length and general scale, so comparing circumferences doesn't help me. The neck and shoulder measurements make me think the souloids are basically soul kids, but even those don't seem to match exactly.

So I'm quite confused - I wasn't expecting the vito head to fit in between the male & female souloid sizes. I definitely want the 2 souloids to look in proportion to each other, even if Diget's body is quite a bit bigger than Lavi's.

Basically, if I put soul kids heads on the souloids , will they look ridiculously small? Or if I tried vito heads would they basically not fit? And if I replaced just one head (ie kept Diget or kept Lavi) which size should I go for and would the one I kept look out of proportion with the one I replaced?

 

Tide N Thyme... yea, can't help you - since I, personally, find the Souldoll heads to be WAY TOO SMALL they just didn't fit with any of my other dolls and looked out of place.

I had an Iraki - and while I loved the body, the head really bothered me. A friend took him on, since his head matched very well in scale to her Batchix Lagoon.

When I ordered my Iraki from Souldoll originally - they did say that you could do the Iraki limited head (which I did like the look of - until I got him) or switch it to ANY Soulkid head. So, I think that means that they are in scale.

 

My Souloid (Phiel gold) currently has his default Phiel head in a box and he wears the Soulkid Titika head (I qualified for the free head event when I ordered) because I like it better than the Phiel head for his character. The heads appear to be utterly identical to me and I can't say as I've noticed any issues with the head swap. However, my knowledge only applies to the latest release of the Souloid/Soulkids as that's what I have.

I believe souloid upper body is identical to the soulkid. I'm intrigued to see you comparison of those three heads thou!

I think i made a comparrison shot for this question a while back.

The answer is that the Souloid upper human part is 1:1 identical to the Soulkids one.

What fits: Soulkids head, Souloids heads, Vito female heads.

Souldoll has "slimmer" heads (Iraki, Diget, Titika for exampel) and they have slightly more round heads (Phiel, Amy, Elden for exampel).

The left, white one is Diget (slim head type), the right, darker one was my Albee (sandy brown), who'd is more like Phiel (rounder head type).

The rest is a matter of personal taste.
Personally I think nearly all 6-7 heads go well either way. It depends on what kind of style you want to go for. I see nothing wrong with combining either of the three heads. In RL ppl have many different head shapes, so...

Except for the middle line they all have different heads and still work out. Even the more rounder sculpts of them and the more slender ones and the more square-ish ones.

I'm working on clothing for Seth, my Iraki. He's getting wings soon and I thought he deserved something new to wear.

I feel like it needs more detail or decorations but not sure what to add...
If you have suggestions let me know!

 

Oooh, wings will be cool! Feather or mecha? --Not sure on the suggestions for the capelet you made. It looks good, I think. Maybe you should wait to see him all together and decide if it needs more or is good as is? You could always put some sort of trim along the edge... but I don't think it needs much. I guess it depends on if you want something more busy or more plain...

 

@skyealloway Ooh... What kind of style are you going for?
If it's steampunky, I could imagine some tiny gears? Or maybe a chain along the edge of the cape? similar to the one he's got hanging right now?

Any chance the wings are from Lut's latest Bory re-release? I could see those totally working out *0*

Uhhh I don't think I know what style I'm going for. Maybe post apocalyptic? I've always felt that was a fitting theme for a cyborg. But I'm not set on that either.

Surely he has a great story- cyborg elf with mecha wings?! I just don't know what it is

I wish i had more of those gold brass studs- those two at the collar came out of a 20+ year old beadazzler and they were all I had left

 

@skyealloway How do those gold brass studs look like? I might have an alternate source for you to get similar.

They're like hollow half round studs. They had four prongs sticking out the back for piercing fabric but I opted to hammer them flat and just glued these on

Hello all! I just got a Phiel from the marketplace, and I am absolutely in love. The body is so much more detailed and lovely in person, and he's so beautiful in general. I'm still deciding on a wig and faceup style, if anyone wants to chat about it!

 

@Twillow he must be silver, he looks lovely. When I got Diget I was amazed by the details too. I've put a Unoa Be-l head on him for a new character but that body is what makes the character shine.
What do you have in mind for yours?

 

I believe he is the gold series (though that seems to be the same as silver, just a different color of pillow). I actually really love the Phiel face sculpt, but yes, the body is what sold me. I am an absolute sucker for androids.

The character idea is a sort of aloof inventor android who's been alone for quite a long time. For company, he created other robots (my excuse for my small army of animal-inspired tinies), so perhaps I'll give him stained fingers, as if he's been working with oil or paints or wires... Eventually a human woman shows up and a Beauty and the Beast sort of story commences. So, I imagine he's aware that he's entirely synthetic, but a little frustrated with his limitations, especially once a real human appears and he is faced with his inhumanity... he's probably a bit vain. I was imagining white or platinum blond hair, really short and styled, but that's a hard wig to find. I really liked this wig for him as well, leaning more on the age and unkempt inventor angle: Custom made bjd mohair wig grey wig BJD outfit Sd mohair wig MSD mohair wig YOSD mohair wig kaye wiggs mohair wig

I've ordered silver and hyper-blue eyes to see how those look... but the exact details are all still up in the air.

I love her aesthetic, face and body. I'm also deciding what to do with my boy's body... I might just do a few small bits in metalics, or mat blacks.

 

Oooh, great to see photos on this thread. I really think the Souloid bodies are just beautifully done. All the jointing is very nice, too--looking perfect for an android body, and working well, too!

Exactly, and especially with BJDs it can be very difficult to determine binary gender by appearance only, even with cyborgs.
I hid the chest because of the tattoo that identifies Cricket, the Diget head/male character who's is floating right now.

I saved a package cardboard thingy today from landing in the recycle box. It's the perfect base for the tube I want to make for Qu (my Diget). It's supposed to be some sort of regeneration tube, like what you might know from mecha-anime or stuff like that (Voltron has them for example and it might be a different version of the ones the Borgs from Star Trek use).
Theoretically Qu doesn't need that. ... Truth is, I like that kind of stuff, so he's getting one for photo reasons *0*

 

@Snowy that sounds like a cool idea! Dang I wish I could nail down what Seth's deal is...

 

Anybody tried putting pants on their souloid? I always felt like a crop too or cloak or jacket was suitable , but my husband was like why don't he wear pants sometimes? And I was like I dunno. Well the only baggy pants I had for MSD were not only two short, but too tight at the thigh and waist.

Thoughts?

 

They are just a tad bigger than a normal MSD so look at their Kids clothes, they are 47cm.

 

Even the pants provided by Souldoll for Soulkids of the NL series won't properly fit unless they are loose due to the extras (cables and stuff). I do remember that someone said JID (MSD size from Iplehouse) pants fit. Again, you want to go for those that look loose on the JID boy bodies.
