I hope they will let us know ahead of time what resin colours doll sculpt X will be available in for all of it's available months, so that no one ends up settling on a SB sculpt X when they really wanted a MC sculpt X, just out of fear that if they miss this SB release (which would still be better than NS/WS/GS) then they really will be stuck having to dye their NS doll.... and then the next month Sculpt X is available in MC after all, and now they have to choose to either just settle on SB, or purchase the MC too and hope to sell the SB doll.

Yeah, the FID mens stuff is way too big but the womens fit perfectly - at least the ones sartoria j makes.

 

It also looks like Souldoll will be no longer doing custom faceups as well? So hopefully that will make it easier on them, too. Seeing all of these sculpts get discontinued makes me really sad, but I hope it helps them in the long run.
I really hope they keep to their mature, "different" aesthetic, though. It does seem Spider Junia was really popular, though? So I imagine they will keep up the strange, unique sculpts to come.

@sanachii I am concerned about that too. One of the things that bothers me the most about the mass discontinuation is that people aren't getting the option of the skin tone they want. I understand why they can't offer all of them, they're making this drastic change precisely because having so many options is unmanageable. But it's tough and a disappointment for those who had their heart set on a sculpt in a certain colour.
I guess all we can do in the future if they don't make things clear is spam them with questions about what colours are going to be available in the next order period?

 

Hey guys! Been a member of DOA for awhile, but this is my first post....

Does anyone have any suggestions for cheaper bodies to hybrid with for the Souldoll Kid female heads? I ordered Yeon-bee and Joelle D full dolls yesterday, but there are also a few discontinued heads I'd like to get while they're still available, but I'm unsure if I'll be eventually able to afford the Souldoll bodies for them...

I was thinking about Doll Leaves? Will it work? Has anyone here done that hybrid before? This would also be my first attempt at hybriding, so I'm a little unsure about how to go about it? Any other cheap bodies that might work?

Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated!

 

@sanachii that's also a very good representation of a fear of mine, with how souldoll will announce the skin color.
All tho I do try to follow the rule to not buy a sculpt if it isn't released in the color I want (I know for sure coloring the doll myself would end up like a horror since I'm very picky). Let's hope they will announce it with the first release so people can plan just a tiny bit. Even tho it maybe would up their sales if they make people buy the sculpt in two colors, but I don't think souldoll would actually be that evil and does still care about us.

On the positive note, finally got a notice my Junia has been released from customs (including a 100 euro custom fee, yaay), hopefully I can pick her up from the post office tomorrow. Really excited to see her skin color in person since she will be my first purple doll, and also be my first soulkid.

 

@dxgirly The neck circumference is the same, so the head should fit. The only thing I'd worry about myself is the difference in shoulder width. The Doll Leaves girls are 6cm wide, while the Soulkid girls are 8cm, so it might end up looking a little bobbleheaded. That's purely a matter of taste, though, and the look you're going for.

Have you looked into LoongSoul? Their neck and shoulder measurements look to be identical to Souldoll, and they're around $200.

 

@dxgirly : Be careful for the resin match.
I think Withdoll will be better. Cream white matches Souldoll's white. The normal skin seems lighter than Souldoll's but good to me. Withdoll bodies are very cheap and mature (210$ for the female body).

 

Hey guys, just dropping a picture in here to break up the sads about the discontinuation.



I'm glad I got her when I did. I keep intending to take some photos of her body and its posing for you all (it's the new double-jointed), but I haven't managed it yet. Wish me free time and spoons.

 

In light of the news about the discontinuations, I was thinking of getting a partner for my ye dong-ha, and I'm wondering what other brands look good next to the souldoll kids line?

I know they're taller than usual and the heads are smaller so I'm worried they'd make another company next to them look strange or bobble headed due to the proportion differences??? Idk

 

I have some Withdolls, and I like the proportions between them.
A friend as a Dollits Eunsu, and it looks good from what I have seen next to her Souldolls, as well. What I have seen of Withdoll next to Aquarius Doll, I think that would look alright as well. I assume Unoa Sist/Lusis/etc would look alright as well?

For the same price, though, she could get a Souldoll body directly (as the nl & new double girl bodies are sold seperately). I also think Withdoll would look really, really weird... they have such long necks that imo they don't usually look good for hybrids. I have both companies and Withdoll heads often look great on bother bodies (eg, supiadoll), but not the other way around. ^^; I can get some bodies if anyone wants to see a Souldoll head on a Withdoll body, though. (I currently own Junia & Juno heads)

Doll-leaves is an okay match for NS and I've seen some that looked okay with white skin, too. Proportionally it... depends? I think it looked really cute with Junia, but I thought it looked a bit bobbleheaded with an Ariana head when I still had her. I will see if I can dig up some photos later on.

Body options for the MSD heads other than the company's:

- Mystic Kids
ws matches Souldoll ws, their normal skin (JUST normal - not normal pink or yellow) matches Souldoll's ns.
Their MSD bodies fit as well and there are two types per gender (a more mature one and a more youthful one).

I currently only have the more mature ones (2 boys (ws, ns), 1 girl body (ws)), but I did have the younger boy body for a short time (I got the wrong color back than and was rather upset and agreed to a refund over an exchange and sending the bodies back to the retailer instead).

I'm also planning MK bodies for 3 out of 4 heads I just snatched from the event.
(They are btw great posers and totally underrated.)


- Doll Leaves
ws matches Souldoll ws well, after it has mellowed a little. DS ws is slightly creamy, Souldoll ws tends to come paper white, but mellows with... a month? and has a light creamy shade to it as well, making it a good match.
I can't say anything about the ns. I do have that hybrid combination, but my DS ns is more pink than the Souldoll ns. According to another hobbyist the DS normal apparently changed and now is a good match? I haven't seen picture proof of it and would thus take that with a grain of salt.


- DiM / Doll in Mind
ns matches Souldoll ns, but I don't know about the neck sizes as I only have the taller, more mature body with the thicker neck for my Vito Paw head.


-Angel of Dreams /AoD
normal skin pink also used to match Souldoll ns rather well. Their ws should also match Souldoll's.


That's it from me with a few suggestions for body alternatives.

I agree with you. My Somi has a Withdoll body and she is a girl who has a big head and a very small body. But on heads like Brie or Bijou (they are very small heads for Souldoll), I think it could work well. It really depends on the mold

 

im a bit late to the party but GEEEEZZZ talk about a disappointment that so many sculpts will be discontinued!! i was totally looking forward to getting a bonnie in the future, maybe even a fabien or mewo, and stella has been one of my dream sculpts for a long time ;____; im trying to see if ill be able to pick one up before theyre gone forever, but gosh what an announcement to drop!

I don't have personal experience with these hybrids, but from lurking in the large doll threads, it looks like people have also matched SD normal with Supia and SD white with Loongsoul with some success.

No problem at all, I‘ve been hybriding or looking to hybrid Soulkids heads since they changed to NL, whom I not ghat fond of due to posability and the crappy wrist joints (changed on the new girl body they put up separate for sale finally).

So if it helps people out.

Loongsoul ws, really? my LS ws doll had a light shade of pink, hence why I didn’t bring it up, seeing as SD comes paper white and turning creamy... But maybe LS too mellows out of the pink? That’s actually something I gotta check later, thx for the tip.

Supia I can’t check anymore but from what I remember it could work - but only for the smaller heads, due the shoulders being rather slim.

If I got time I‘ll see if I can find some more matches or good matches among my collection (can’t remember if Luts or Dreaming Doll fits for example).


EDIT: I just happened to stumble over this pic from 2013.
Head is Souldoll ns (Lev), headcap was Resinsoul ns (close match), arm Doll Leaves ns. All were pretty much brand new when I put them next to each other.
As mentioned earlier some say that the current DS ns and Souldoll ns are a better match nowadays.

This pic however also shows, that Resinsoul would be another cheaper alternative to the original body, for hybriding purposes.

EDIT2: Found the ws comparisson pic of Souldoll with Loongsoul, Mystic Kids and OnlyKids:

You can see that Souldoll matches well with MK and OK and LS has that light pinkish shade. It could be used as hybrid thought, if it doesn't bother you (or you are going to blush it)

 

I can confirm that Souldoll white is a yellow white and matches Mystic Kids, Myou, Only Love and Angel of Dream whites.

Loongsoul, Akagi, Luts, I.O.S, Doll Family- H, Doll Legend, Angel Studio (solid white) and Dika Doll whites are on the pinker side so does not match new out of the box. Out of them, the Loongsoul, Dika and Doll Legend are the palest so older bodies may have yellowed enough to not look too pink against a new Soulddoll white head, but as I've found my Souldoll head has yellowed considerably over a few years the match may not last.

Resinsoul's white and Dika Doll's pure white are paper white. My Dika pure white has yellowed quite quickly so an older body may match.

If Souldoll's normal matches Mystic Kids new normal then it will also match Myou's normal and Loongsoul's yellow as those three are very close.

 

As far as i'm aware and from what other's have said, Loongsoul holds on to it's pink quite well. I have a Loongsoul doll in white from 2016 and while it's faded a little, it's still more on the pink side than the yellow side.

Also good to know about LS. I was pondering about it, since some claim it's a good Souldoll match. I guess it's not a bad one, but not quite what I'd consider a 'good' one :3

(Then again I have a Souldoll ns- Doll leaves ns hybrid, where the DS body is a darker pink and strangely enough don't mind it much)

As far as I know souldoll won't be discontinuing the NL body, I would expect they would have stated it by now if they did (like with the yosd sized line of them). However if you do get an different answer of them please let me know! Since I also have the nl body in my future plans ^^

 

About White skin resin matches, Supiadoll isn't a good match with Souldoll (when it's new). Supia has a pinkish, peachy undertone while Souldoll is more creamy. I've got this comparison photo that I took when my Supia body was still brand new. Unfortunately the photo doesn't include Souldoll, but Souldoll's White skin is pretty similar to Withdoll's Cream White:

In a couple of years, the pinkish tone mellows out from Supia's White skin, though, and becomes more creamy. I can take a comparison photo of mellowed Supia vs Souldoll when I'm back home again and have access to my dolls.

I've also got Angell Studio Solid White in the photo, and it's definitely too pink to match Souldoll. Even after a couple of years, it's still very pink.

I still haven’t figured out what my Souldoll plans are, tbh. Oh, I hate buying under pressure!

No idea about the NL body, but let me tell you the new double jointed girl body definitly has the better wrist joints! I hate the ones on the NL boy bodies (which are the same), where the 'ball' part of the joint is on the arms, instead of the hands. It SEVERLY limits posabilitiy and I had the resin at the hands (at the wrists) crack, from simply trying to pose them to lean back onto their hands. Also cause the resin of the hands is thinner there. :\

Yeah the wrist/hand design is a big letdown of the NL body. It's a hard one to work around too. Not much in the way of mods to fix it especially on the blue-gray body I have. Sigh.

I have my girls on the NL body and I am very very happy with it, thanks God I never had problems with the wrist, but I handle my girls not a lot so maybe that is why I never had problems.

I did not see the new double jointed body but sadly I do not remember where I saw this, two persons had problems already with the new double jointed body because it cracked one day after the box opening, let me search about it to show you. And to be honest I love the pose-ability but the NL body looks so beautiful to me (the new double jointed is not so pretty to me), besides I do not like the big bust so much, so I guess I would still order the NL body, but I will think about it^^.

Sadly the two types of bodies have technical problems, because of cracks, as I could see...., I wish they could improve this imperfections.

I'm groovyblueworld on insta and, yes, unfortunately my juno cracked yesterday whrn I was attempting to put her into a forward slouch . It's the inner chest piece on the back.

For what it's worth, I did eventually manage to get her into a slight forward slouch. Just had to crack off two pieces of resin to do it .

Did you contact Souldoll already?

This is a similar problem that happened with the old NL body and they did not want to be responsible for that, even if they admitted it was a failure of the design..
I hope you are lucky!
On the other side the pose-ability should be amazing, I hope someone can show it us soon.

 

A bit of a random question, but -- does anyone here have any dolls by Limhwa or Supiadoll? I am curious if they look okay to a newer Souldoll (eg last few years, like Junia, Juno, etc) side-by-side, or if the proportions might be a bit off. MSD sized dolls can have all sorts of different head sizes, so I thought I'd ask ^^;

 

Okay recieved my souldoll junia today ad now I see what they mean with the thin resin around the wrist.
Sadly she also came with a little chip (not sure if it happend with shipping, but I dont thik so since she was wrapped really well).
However I do really love the vorms of the NL body.

Thank you very much! Can't wait for the weather cools down little so I can start on her face up.

Not sure if the chip is clearly visible, since it's really tiny but here is a picture, it's right in the middle just a tiny splinter.

Compared to my minifee the resin is quite a bit thinner, but then again the arms are a bit more delicate then a minifee's. On the other hand I have a DC kid body which has even more slender arms but the resin does still feel a bit thicker then the souldoll nl body. I just have it with the arms tho, the rest of the body does feel sturdy. Don't think the whole arm would crack btw, but they definitely need to be handled with more care then I'm used to compared with my minifee or dc. I don't think it would keep me from buying another NL body, because the body does look very smooth and beautifully delicate

 

In case it's of help, here's some white comparisons-

With the Souldoll head, i've started sanding the face to lighten up the yellowing so it's not quite as strong as it was originally. The colour looks exactly the same as the Myou body so the body can be used to get a better idea of how it looks against the other dolls.
The Doll Legend and Loongsoul shows the pink tone where as the Dikadoll and Resinsoul shows the paper white compared to the yellow tone. When I received the Dikadoll head, while the face was white, the cap was already very yellowed so that shows how the Dikadoll pure white will age

Also bonus close up on Souldoll and Loongsoul ws 2016 resins to show how they age (both these have been stored in boxes so not had much sunlight exposure)-

I am thinking on ordering very very soon my girls before they are discontinued and I am not sure if I should go for the new double jointed body, because I really do not like very much the big bust, I wish they had a small bust option.

Or did you have to pick that one to get it? It might be too late now (or not, as not all are shipped yet), but maybe you could ask Souldoll for those arms in that color? I don't think the underarm would fit the ellbow joint of the other one.

@Chocolatine Nice line-up. But... Wowies. Raccoon's boobies aren't quite what I'd call small XD smallish would be the middle one for me.

My Souldoll NL (the last one in my collection) actually feels rather stiff when it comes to posing. Maybe the girl one is better. If I didn't like his size so much, I'd be replacing his body asap.

I can only speak of the former double jointed one, but slouching was never a problem and with the exception of the feet, I had no problems with it.
I now do feel glad I didn't by my Asen with the new double body thought and will be hybriding her with Mystic Kids (I think I have mentioned that before? Not sure ^^°)

@Epona: I had a Supiadoll and she was 6-7 sized. Should look perfectly fine next to newer Souldol Soulkids, as they are usually also 6-7.
I unfortunatly never took a pic of her with any of my Souldolls ^^°
In terms of dimension and body shape, I also think Supia should be right at home among Souldolls :3

Also I think a tiiiiiiny piece cracked off there. The white and normal skin resin are a little bit more resilient to it, but special colors tend to be a bit softer resin, causing stuff like that to happen in areas like that.

@brighteyes22: It's no problem to finish earlier. (I used to text them on the Q&A board with my order number and that I placed the next part of my layaway and asked for them to confirm that I recieved it. I'd always put the order number in the payment and mention on the Q&A thread that it was payment 2 of 3 for example).
Unless Souldoll changed their policity, they only start production after finishing paying off the order.
More recent purchasers might know more about this thought.

 

@Snowy the blue gray body I have is part of the spider set. It was only offered on the NL body. The new body you referenced came out I think on the next release after the spider.

 

@Snowy I actually think she poses slightly better now haha. She can actually get into a slight forward slouch and it didn't affect any of her other mobility. I haven't had time to do anything with her since, but I want to take a look at the inside of my old kids double and see what it looks like. The old body slouched without any trouble.

 

@scripple Oh, I see. I admit I wasn't following the girl-releases that closely, especially when I already decided not to purchase. Pity. I guess with the spider hands in play, exchanging them wouldn't really be an option, even if Souldoll agreed. *sigh*

@sakana_hime I'm not surprised actually. I dimly remember there being a similar issue with a body of a different company, but my brain won't gimme the name... I know a lot sanded down or otherwise removed some pointy parts in the torso and suddenly the whole posing level was wayyyy better.

Far as I recall the insides/ joint inside the torso were/was smooth, but I could could be wrong.

 

I don’t think Joelle D is one of the discontinued dolls, only Joelle, so you might be lucky there.
I’ve ordered Shaun as a partner for my Bonnie. They’re going to be a gorgeous couple.

 

I found a doll perfect for a character of mine (an ios co, Immortality Of Soul), but he has a 7-8" head compared to my soulkid 6-7" ;-; is there any way I could make them look alright together or are the head sizes just too different?

(sorry if this is off-topic, not sure who to ask)

 

@Snowy Yeah the skin tone is wonderfull to work with, diffrent light can totally change how it looks (sometimes more purple, sometimes more grey and sometimes more blue) love that. And m bad vorm is a dutch word, ment to say shapes ^^

I have this feeling too!, it is almost the same double jointed body to me but maybe a little bit better, for me is too like they took some good parts and a little crappy design and put them all together...
I think the posing of the NL girl body is just fine, since I do not use to play a lot with them making difficult poses, so maybe I will be ordering the NL girl body along with the heads. It looks beautiful to me, so delicate and well proportionated too, so I think I have made already my decision^^.

@watercolorpastells I don't think the difference is THAT noticable between those two sizes, especially once the wig is on. I mean, the Vito and Kids look perfectly fine next to each other too and the Vito boys have 7-8 while the Kids have 6-7.

Okay, I found a few that might help:
Souldolls!!! - An old Souldoll group pic. The last row all are 7-8 sized (the biggest one actually a bit bigger, but not really an 8-9), the middle row 6-7 and the two in the front are 7-ish.
All my girls (MSD) - an all girls pic! This one is totally mixed in size. There are 6-7, 7-8 and 1 8-9 sized head all among those and I think they work out perfectly fine together regardless.

That said, people in real live all have different sized heads as well, so all having to be the same size is... (bogus) ;P

Souldoll is one of my favourte companies (when it comes to mature MSD heads) and was totally underappreciated when I joined the hobby (and slowly but surely started raiding them regulary ^^°°°°°) and I always like helping ppl out, when I can

@Snowy Me and you both on the skin release for boys part. So far I can only recollect that they released their halloween Penz boy in that skin, crossing my finger theyy will do a same kind of release this halloween ^^

 

I still did not order my girls because after looking all the time photos of Flett I am not sure anymore if I really want her...

Instead I found that Fafner is very very beautiful so I am debating now between these two girls....

Can someone please share their girls with me?, also, what eye size have them both?, I guess Fafner wears 12mm?

I am still looking for owners pictures and I am so confused, Flett is precious but at the same time the owners pictures are mostly so different from the promo pictures, it is so strange...., however i love her sweet sad face...I will probably will be getting her, >__<, decisions decisions!!

 

@Epona, I have a Limhwa Sujan and a Soulkid Gana. They look very proportionate to each other and actually sit next to each other on my doll shelf because of it. They can share wigs, have pretty much the same size faces, and both have small eyes compared to my other MSDs (Minifees, DIM, Doll-Love, and Volks). Their necks, shoulders, hands, and feet are all proportionate. When standing side-by-side, my Sujan is a teeny-tiny bit taller, like less than 1/2 a centimeter, but they look like they come from the same world. I'm not a photographer, but I think they would look good together in a photoshoot.

I don't know if Gana is a new enough sculpt to answer your question, but I hope it helps.
