Soul Doll Tera Zenith Discussion Pt. 1

I have a question! I posted this in the Zenith thread by accident, but I'll repost here cause it's where it's supposed to be. I saw someone say the Limited Henry sculpt is based off of Lee Dong Wook. Now, looking closely, there is a HUGE similarity, but the nose on profile is quite off and would have to be shaved down. Did Souldoll do this on purpose? I know they have some dolls look like celebrities on purpose apparently, but I'm wondering if it really was their intention to make LDW sculpt as the nose IS off. Does anyone have any info? Maybe they changed the nose for the legality?

 

I just ordered a Cratos from Souldoll and I'd love to see even more owner pics. I've got to get busy making clothes for him--well, okay, an outfit for him.

Oh, thank you! Miklos is scrumptious! I'm working on some ideas for clothes, but unfortunately a couple of my other dolls have demanded attention in the meantime. I'm so very excited about mine arriving!

Soooo....Between being massively busy at work and then just general real life, it suddenly dawned on me that my Cratos should be about ready to be shipped from Souldoll. Except my order still shows "processing." AUGH! The last two times I've bought from them, however, the dolls just showed up at my door--for one I even got a shipping notice after she arrived. I popped in here to see if anyone had any comments on waiting, only to see the forum has been very, very quiet. :-) Ah, well. Still waiting...

Also, are most people posting in the Zenith thread? There seems to be a lot of crossover between owners of Zenith and Tera Zenith.

@Lady Tiku, I have had outfits like that! Your boy looks awesome in that outfit, and it does have a great level of insouciance that would fit a part-fey guy.

@aernath Your cratos is so handsome, he reminds me of a young Gael Garcia Bernal. I wish I could get him but alas, I think I'll have to pass him by

 

OH, it's been such a busy summer, I forgot to come back here and post! Yes, Skandar did arrive, and he's such a handsome guy! I love the size and weight of him, and he's so beautifully sculpted. Here he is with his "temporary" faceup at Resin Rose in August:


He's eventually going to get a "real" faceup, but my friend did such a beautiful job with this one, it may be a while before I send him in for that. I've been to busy to do more than just make the shirt and pants he has on, but I'm working on a tunic and pants for him now. I'm also still looking for that "perfect" wig. I like the look of this one, but I want a darker color. I also need to find him some more period appropriate boots.

If you hadn't noticed, Souldoll is discontinuing must of the Tera Zenith sculpts, including Cratos! I hope this doesn't mean they will discontinue the dolls themselves.

I have to ask, did you close your Etsy shop? I went looking for it and couldn't find it a couple of weeks ago. You do such lovely work!

I do wish we could combine this thread with the Zenith thread;it seems to have a lot more activity and a lot of the same people.

 

Omg, seeing your guy just made it all click for me! I needed to see him with a non-default faceup, to remember I love his eye shape, and then I remembered who it is in my mind that has those eyes: Genjo Sanzo from Saiyuki! Huzzah! Now I know I need a blonde wig, and an outfit, and a gun....! Yay!

Yup, closed up shop. Went six months without a single sale, and with as much as I was paying in taxes, not to mention just the frustration it added to doing the taxes....ugh. It just wasn't worth it in the end. But thank you for the kind words! And you can always feel free to request a shirt. I can certainly do "favors".

Finally finished an outfit for Skandar. It's a trial run--and of course I fell in love with the texture and color without thinking about how the fabric would drape at this scale. *sigh* Oh, well. Also, does anyone have the measurement for just how much shorter an EID superhero torso and legs are than the TeraZenith's? I'm also curious as to whether or not the TZ's thighs (about where the mobility joint is) are larger around than the EID superhero's.

The torso lengths are actually about the same at 21cm from shoulder to hip. It's all in the thighs. The EID superhero thigh is about 17cm and the tera zenith is 21cm.
The torso width, however, is all superhero. It's about 2cm wider everywhere.
The thighs are very close, the TZ is about 21cm around (at the mobility spot), and the EID is 21.5cm.

@aernath you are always so helpful with requests. I had no idea the SD heads were bigger than Iple heads, I always read about how tiny SD dolls are compared to other dolls in the same size range :O

@nonniemous your Skandar is very beautiful, I think his faceup is amazing Im glad I preordered the Cratos head now I can see how versatile he looks so good. I really love the color palette and how his eye color is a good match to the colors, I genuinely wish to see more of him posted

 

Aernath, that is FABULOUS!! Thank you so much! I'd noticed the bigger torso circumference for the EID Superheroes; I've been comparing measurements that I could find online. But no one here has any of the EID guys, so I couldn't get any of the torso or other lengths. That thigh length difference is kind of amazing. (Sorry for the delay getting back; work is super busy right now.)

@GreenTeaSlug, thank you! I cannot take credit for Skandar's faceup; the amazingly talented Allison Wonder wanted to "play" with him, and this was the result. He may never get sent off for his "permanent" faceup! Though I should add some eyelashes. The eyes are the stock ones that Souldoll sent with him. I adore the color. Cratos seems to be a pretty versatile sculpt, even with those dramatic eyes. As for more pictures, your wish is my command! :-) Here he is vamped out back when I first got him:

@Lady Tiku, LOL! Oh, thank you, but you think far too highly of my sewing skills. I can make things look good on my dolls in pictures; that's about all I can do. I love the Iplehouse Carved Heritage outfits; those are an amazing look. Have you checked out Sartorial J on Etsy? She has some nice stuff-though techiically it's not fitted to Tera Zenith. It is EID, though.

 

I ordered Zig and Klaus heads too, but... now I want to sell them, unfortunately. I have too much heads without body and too less money for them :c

 

Awww, that's too bad, but I totally understand. I have been neglecting all my dolls the last couple of years and am thinking the same about all the floating heads I have around here!

 

Figured it might be fun to revive this thread. I just finally ordered a body for my darling Klaus head, he's been headless far too long. Has anyone seen the new Telesthesia & Dragon 75cm body? It seems to have a lot of the same measurements as the TZ body. I'm dreading trying to find clothes for this big lug but its about time he's gotten a body.

 

Oh, sorry, I should have specified. X.x I purchased the TeraZenith body for Klaus, but I was hoping perhaps the Telesthesia Doll clothing might be a close match since their bodies are pretty close in size. I knew about the EID fits from this thread and some other research but beyond that, I haven't heard of much else that fits him.

Im getting really excited that Henry is going to be rereleased on August! Im surprised that constantly requesting and sending them screencaptures of people wanting to buy the head/ asking about it paid off eventually lol

I wish sandy brown was an option, but its better than nothing XD

I do like the Tera Zenith body for Henry, and since I really love Daydream's head - but wish for it for another body, this would be a good chance to get Daydream too since he isnt available as a head alone purchase. Im grateful its a long order period and their generous layaway plan lol

Who else is getting Henry in August? Does anyone else want to get him in sandy brown? If theres enough interest, I might pass it along to souldoll and they might consider it, but realistically it doesnt seem like something will come out of it. It doesnt hurt to try though, specially if theres a lot of interest for it I think.

 

I am also getting a Henry head tho I have to ask .... Are there any other bodies at ALL that will fit? I mean...15 cm neck?!? Souldoll really goes out of their way to make sure you have to buy their bods lol I want 65 cm body honestly. But I think I'm out of options

 

Don't quote me on this, because I haven't seen it in person, but someone was saying that Telesthesia and Dragon's 75cm body with the 13 cm neck has measurements very close to Souldoll's TeraZenith. To me, the 2 cm difference wouldn't work, but I haven't seen it in person to say how bad/good it is. I will say that most likely a TeraZenith head will not work on any 65 cm body I have ever seen. They're rather large heads with rather large neck holes compared to just about every 65cm doll I have seen.

 

@xkelpiex I dont trust those measurements, I just took my Soul Doll Tera Zenith Cratos and checked. I also checked used Zig and its the same, I got them last year so these are new.

Here's Cratos on Idealian 75, no gapping and fit perfectly (it was annoying to remove the brain piece and attach a hook lol)

Even though Iplehouse Superhero and Model were listed as 12.8 and 13.3, they did not fit. The top of the necks were to big for the head to sit properly on them. Even though the SID bodies have thinner necks, their tops were bigger so they fit the head properly, but you can see the top of the neck of the muscle body poking slighly, the holes on the heads (where the head meets the neck) is big, but their jawlines are thinner, so even though it fits, it will slightly show unless you mask it with a wig or sand it slightly smaller. Some fit, but the body proportions feel off to me, for example the SID model, even though it fits, looked off because the proportions of the face needed something with wider shoulders in my opinion.

Dollshe Mystic was very bad, and neck is listed as 12.5cm, I did not take a picture. It was not an acceptable hybrid at all, no matter what modification or wig is used.

 

Ooooh, so a 12 cm neck should fit then!! That's great news. Now I just need to do digging for resin matching

@xkelpiex I think it depends on which body it is, because Dollshe Mystic is a 12.5 and it looked horrible, I did not take a picture because theres no saving it.
Iplehouse works because their necks are like mushrooms if you can imagine it, the top of their necks are much bigger than their regular neck. Iplehouse SID Muscle in the picture is 65cm by the way, so maybe that will work for you?
I think 13cm would safely work for him, that size is "just right" for the head. I think maybe Souldoll measured the base of the neck which is why its 15cm.

@nonniemous your Skandar is what actually pushed me to get Cratos XD He's the only one ive seen out of his default faceup and I loved the soft look you gave him, that gentle expression

 

Ah, that's right! Happy to help enable another BJD Fiend, er friend. Hard to believe it's been a year and a half since those conversations. But life intervenes, and I haven't had much time to be here--not to mention I have too many projects!

Have you come up with a look or theme for your Cratos? I saw that he was still blank in your photos.

@nonniemous lol Its so difficult when every other week its "new release" this "limited edition 3" that, and the focus immediately becomes on how to get enough funds and calculate if the doll is "worth it" etc, and now with the pandemic going around, its become more difficult to mail out, or mail in (... I miss EMS prices, companies have been really nice and told me they would hold my packages but its been that way since March, and I felt bad they had all my packages taking up space so I suggested Ill pay for DHL ... it makes me weep that its 3-4 times the regular EMS price, but at least they will be here soon, I had no idea I had accumulated so many dolls..... )

Im hoping to dye him a dark olive tan (iplehouse real skin)! Im going to dress up him and make my own version of Captain Hook. I have the hook from the carved heritage series, and will be sanding the neck slightly down to make it more proportionate. I havent decided if I want to dye his head, or airbrush it, but I do like that with dye, I wont have to worry about it chipping. Its such a beautiful and under rated head sculpt

 

Argh, yeah. So many of my friends have seen their purchases languish in shipping or somewhere for months before they finally arrive here. And it's far too easy to accumulate more and more dolls! Though I have had too many real life expenses lately to buy dolls, though I did a swap for a Souldoll Shiva. Could not pass that one up! But I am looking at adding either an Ottoman or Saracen or possibly Moorish character to my Medieval group, so I have been doing a bit of window shopping--mostly Iplehouse, though, since they have the better head sculpts for those characters. Henry is very pretty, but not really what I have in mind.

I love the idea of dying Cratos tan and creating your own Captain Hook. I really wish that SoulDoll did the dark tans and brown resins that Iplehouse offers. (As for Hook, that black outfit I bought Skandar would work for a pirate outfit, too. ) I hope you post many progress pictures.

Out of curiosity, what stands (if any) do you guys use for your big boys? I want to bring my TeraZenith to a meetup once they resume, but I'm afraid most of the stands I have for him might not be enough. My saddle stands seem to be inhibited by his man bits but most of the other stands I have I am hesitant to use due to his weight. They don't feel very sturdy for the big fella.

I bought this one for Skandar; it works pretty well. I also have some of those cheapish ones from Joann for really big dolls, but I don't trust them quite as much. I also have been known to take a seat that I know works for him. I have a plant stand or two that are actually the right height for him.

 

Thank you! I plan on designing a seat for him, because most of the seats I have don't quite work, but there are times that space is rather limited and I'd like the option to have him stand if that is the case. I have a few 1/3 stands, to include some of the cheaper joann stands, and I agree that I don't quite trust them. With him being so massive and heavy compared to a lot of the other dolls I've handled, I want to make sure I'm not putting anyone else's dolls at risk. I would hate for him to suddenly faceplant because the stand wasn't strong enough and take out some little YoSD that thought it was cute to pose next to him.

 

I haven't found Skandar prone to faceplanting--unlike Subetai, my DragonDoll Kua Fe, who seems to delight in doing the hip-bend head butt move. But, I will set him down at the very back or away from everyone, just in case.

Also, do people have pictures of their Oscals? I'm thinking of doing an Ottoman character to go with Skandar's medieval guy (maybe, just MAYBE influenced by Yusuf and Nicolo in the Old Guard movie/comic). Trouble is, I'd like a sculpt that could at least pass for Ottoman. Iplehouse has a couple, but I am afraid to spend that much money on a doll that a) I might not like and b) appears to be such different proportions than Skandar. (There's also Impldoll's Filraen, but again, I'm worried about how slight he will look next to Skandar.) I have a friend who will dye it for me so I can get the skin tone I want even if I can't get Souldoll's Sandy Brown right now, but I'm trying to decide if Oscal with the right faceup could pull off the look. I've done some searching for owner pics, but....

Then again, I really don't need to be spending money on dolls right now.

 

Dusting off this old thread~ I'm was able to find a Souldoll Klaus and Zig 2nd hand from the same seller and decided to splurge and bring these two home because I've recently become OBSESSED with the Tera-Zenith line. What's strange is when they were released I wasn't doing much doll buying and didn't feel compelled to even look closely at these boys. Of course, now that everything is gone/sold out, I'm really hoping to find some of them!

Anyone has a Zig/Klaus to torture me with? I've also been searching high and low for a human Karim and Ryan, but it looks pretty sparse. =_= I would also like to get Josh/Daydream and luckily those are still basic releases (for now - dang Souldoll and their random discontinuations).

 

I have a Klaus, but I'm afraid he wouldn't be much to torture you with as he's just a blank, naked boy right now. I don't even have any photos of him now that I think about it. To be honest I haven't found a whole lot of collectors with a Klaus in their collection. I also have a Josh I ordered, but he's still being created.

But I do agree, the TeraZenith line has a way of sneaking up on you. At first, I received the Klaus head as a gift in one summer event because I was curious but terrified of the size. Then I purchased him a body...and next thing you know I'm purchasing two TeraZenith Boys in one go X.x I need to start lifting weights cause these boys are so heavy.

 

@errinreynolds : You're torturing me with the thought of a Josh actually being made! I have searched high and low for Josh owners but turned up nothing (which isn't too surprising since he's so new). The Josh head is my favorite TZ actually, but since he's still basic I'm waiting to save up to purchase his head with Daydream full doll so my army of TZ heads can share one body.

Klaus and Zig owner pics are also rare, but they seem to be more frequent than the other LE Tera Zeniths. That is so neat you got Klaus as a gift! I saw some comparison photos of the size and it's absolutely SHOCKING how huge these guys are. They make Iplehouse EID boys look little Maybe I need to start doing push ups too...

I hope when you do finally work on yours, you'll share them, because there aren't enough photos of these dream guys in existence and it's driving me crazy! ToT

 

@Dybbuk I will be posting a box opening/arrival thread for that haul when it finally gets here. So there will be photos of Josh Blank as well has Henry as far as the TeraZenith's go and a couple Zenith girls as well. I put them on Layaway and they started "item processing" mid November but my final payment was in December. So hopefully I don't have too much longer although I'm terrified to see if the shipping cost will change. I paid 300 in shipping alone for the order. X.x

Sadly it will be a while before I get to start working on them, to the point I'm thinking about perhaps sending them to faceup artists instead. The weather out here just isn't ideal for working on them...and it doesn't seem to be changing any time soon. I will post pictures when I do though! I agree, there definitely need to be more photos of these big boys!

 

@errinreynolds That shipping charge is craaaazy! Although I hope it won't change for you. I got a shipping quote for my Souldoll Jio (x1 doll, Zenith size) and it was $251.60 for EMS. =_= I had to request them to ship him disassembled without box/cushions to bring it down to $78 for UPS (Not EMS). It's insane right now! Hopefully that's the last you have to pay of any shipping payments. I can't wait to see your Josh and Henry though! I really like Henry too, but he's not quite on my list yet. Maybe if I can't find Karim in human form~ Did you get yours both in NS?

Oh that's a bummer you can't work on them immediately. Is it too humid in your area? I probably can do the faceups on mine when they arrive, BUT no body to play with them on. All the ones I have are going to be way too small. Oh well, just glad I found them!

 

@Dybbuk ....251.60 for just one Zenith? Oh lord...I'm screwed. Pockets prepare yourselves! I have 2 TeraZeniths and 2 Zenith girls along with a handful of eyes and some shoes...no way that isn't going up then. Unless I somehow magically make it into a different shipping bracket due to the size/weight distribution. I've always been a fan of Henry, partially because his limited release looks a lot like my husband as a teenager/young adult, so when he was re-released I told myself it was destiny. I did order them both in the NS, although now that they have started offering more Sandy Brown/Tan events part of me wishes I would have waited. I absolutely adore their Sandy Brown color but I only have one doll in it X.x

Apparently, the fall/winters here are super windy and rainy so it is impossible to spray outside. We have a small airbrush hood/paint hood my husband uses for Warhammer models but I'm not super familiar with airbrush sealants and with these big boys I'd probably need a larger area unless I did one piece at a time. I am considering it though, since Klaus's body, a Zenith Kagel, and a Vito Lester all arrived at the same time and the poor boys are the only ones without any blushing. At this rate, I'll have far too many dolls to work on if this order gets here before the weather co-operates

 

@errinreynolds : I hope Souldoll doesn't... to be honest I paid off my shipping expense now thinking they will continue to honor the price they quoted me at the time they sent the email. Otherwise, why wouldn't they wait until the doll was ready to ship to quote shipping price? But who knows... things are so screwy right now and I understand they can't eat the shipping costs (given they already discounted their dolls for almost 2 months) but I would hate to think what your shipping charge would be if mine was $250 for one assembled doll. X_X;

Aww, that's so sweet! And I was thinking about that too... they have special Sandy Brown events from time to time, but it always seems to be more for their Kids line, but *if* it ever comes around I don't think I'll be strong enough to resist at least one TZ in that color. I love Karim, but Souldoll is so unreliable with re-releases... they're one of the few companies I believe when they state something is limited. But then again there is hope since you're getting your Henry!

I see, that does sound tricky. Especially with such big pieces you would be needing to spray a substantial amount of sealant and that can be dangerous without the proper size ventilation equipment for indoors. Well... I'm not sure what the Souldoll waits are like right now, but hopefully they'll arrive just in time for some warmer more cooperative weather.

My boys just shipped from Russia! Now to see how long it takes for them to make it across the globe

@Dybbuk Oddly enough, I paid 201.60 for a TeraZenith and A Zenith female as well as a TZ male and Zenith female plus 5 eyes, 2 wigs, and a pair of TZ shoes. It seems like there is a 'standard price' that is the minimum. I know that they said the box size and weight were what was affecting the prices so maybe that has to do with it. That being said, Josh is on his way to me now and they said Henry will ship this coming Friday.

 

Please please please share photos here of your arrivals! I'm dying to see more owner pics of the TZ boys, especially Josh since I haven't seen one yet! Excited for you! My Russian pair of heads are still on their way to me too~

Wow 201 for two dolls? Seems much more reasonable than the $250. I'm sure that once it's an oversize package it starts at a standard rate and goes up. Oh well, luckily I'm not in need of *another* doll box...even though I love Souldoll's fun printed pillows!

 

Well I'm sad to say I'm not sure if Souldoll will revive their Tera Zenith line. I had asked them if they would keep Daydream up for sale and they assured me that they would continue to sell him, but he's been marked as 'sold out' out of the blue So bummed, he was the last Tera Zenith I was really trying to acquire. Shame on me for not buying him while he was available.

BUT... considering I didn't start collecting these boys until late last year, I'm happy to say I've been able to find 5 sculpts I really wanted. I have a comparison photo below for anyone who is curious. Not sure how many die hard TZ lovers are out there, but I'm super giddy with my latest acquisition... Tera Zenith Ryan I did NOT expect to find him, but lo' and behold Dolk had one in stock in WS with a faceup. If anyone knows of other dealer shops that deal for Souldoll, please let me know. I'm hoping I can still find a Daydream and maybe one day if I wish hard enough a human Karim in their sandy skin.

 

@Dybbuk Gosh, I have been eyeing that Ryan for a while now but I just wasn't certain I could handle a WS doll. I had a swinte in WS previously and she was just too much for me, the color didn't sit right. I think it was the fact their white used to be flat paper white and I'm not artistic enough to body blush an entire doll. I have three boys (Klaus, Josh, and Henry) but I was hoping to snag an Oscal in Sandy Brown eventually...assuming he ever resurfaces when I had the money. Doll Peddlar is a dealer (or was, I haven't seen new stuff for souldoll come in stock in years) and every once in a while they seem to have secondhand dolls pop up for sale. They had a sandy brown Oscal for the longest...but right when I had the funds he disappeared. Anytime I'm looking for something older/harder to get I usually check there first. I'd love more of these boys, but they're just so huge and hard to shop for I think I have to tell myself three big bodies taking up space is enough. I'm not sure I could make them all share a body either...so limiting myself might be the only choice.

Did souldoll tell you they weren't bringing back the TeraZenith line? They discontinued it for production purposes but last I inquired they still had plans to bring it back eventually. I hope they don't discontinue these beefy boys X.x I haven't found shoes or clothes beyond Souldoll itself that works for them!
