Soom Teenie Gem and Monthly Doll Discussion part 12

Oct 12, 2014

1. I would just a a bit of a darker color to tips off the feathers on the wings and perhaps darken the claws a bit more. That is just me. Though keep in mind adding more color to the body might start to make the face seem plain.

I wonder if something like this happened when the made the first WS Ais. It seem a lot of the one I have seen the the MP will have one or two random parts that yellowed MUCH faster than the rest of the dolls. A torso piece, or part of the arm will have seemed to come from a completely different batch of resin. My own Ai head I bought turned yellow quite quickly, but her headcap is still super white. Thankfully I was able to find yellowed parts to go with her (I got a steal of a deal on a yellowed body with no lower legs for her!), but it is still odd to see so many of the Ai dolls with the random body part yellowed.

2. If it is easy, than I would like to have the picture. Just to see if Babmicrony has changed much. If it's hard to do don't do it. I'm accepting an outfit for a partial trade and money. It fits an impldoll, I have one older bambicrony and some older and newer soom yosd's. So it won't help to see if it will fit my dolls. The deal is already arranged so I'm getting the outfit anyway, if it doesn't fit I'll trade or sell it at the next local meetup. Thanks!

3. Have you tried Comparison Heaven? You can pull up photos of all sorts of dolls and compare them side by side. They have Soom, Impldoll and Bambicrony in the database so you can see them all side by side. :)

Looking at the three, Impldoll is a bit shorter and thicker (particularity in the tummy), and Bambicrony is a bit taller at the shoulders and a bit thinner in the waist. Babicrony and Soom have the same arm and leg lengths, and the Impdoll has shorter arms and legs.

4. Wow Tonboko I wrote a long reply, to thank you for the link and then I went and looked and played around with it and got distracted and ended up looking at patterns & on facebook, ending up looking at dyed poodle dogs. Sigh! When I came back here I refreshed and DOA erased my post, I actually didn't post. LOL!

Does anyone know of Patterns for the soom teenie centaurs? I've been having itchy sewing fingers lately. I promised the new neighbor girl I would make her msd size doll a new dress and my mountain lion centaur doesn't have anything to wear. I was thinking I have a bunch of fabric I really should make her something, something Pink and Fluffy!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD4CxpUSExY maybe with a horn headband.....

5. Hmm...perhaps a little more shading? Though if you did his body, you'd have to add to his face up a little.

Oh...I was unaware it was longer than three months before. Don't mind me then. *_*

6. Well, in a way it did get longer, but also unofficially shorter.

There was a 3 payment (2 month) plan and a 4 payment (3 month) plan, but Soom was pretty relaxed about letting people do longer (sometimes 6 or more month) layaways when asked.

Now they are offering an official 5 month plan, but will no longer be allowing "unofficial" longer layaways.

7. So is it common that they make different batches, different body parts from different resin (not sure how to phrase that correctly) for the doll and then there is a chance it yellows very unevenly? In that case I think I should avoid layaways or just 2 months at most.

Psywave A like the possible plan you have for your teenie birdie, steam punk metallic bird would be abstract and so fantasy like :)

8. I finally posted the photos I took of Tytus last weekend! After getting strep, then losing our kitty, and it being the last couple of weeks before the end of the school year at work, I've been so busy/tired that it took me a week to get the photos edited and uploaded!

Anyway, here's a teaser that links to the gallery thread:

9. Kelaria, your Tytus is so precious! I love his little outfit!

10. Thanks, cleverLC! :) I found it on etsy! (love that place, lol!) It took me forever because it was so hard to find a shirt that was what I had in mind for him! I was lucky when I found both shirt and pants from the same shop (edhelwen) and was able to order them at the same time! ^_^

11. Thanks for the suggestions, I think I will keep what I have at the front and then do a full tattoo on the back of the wings because I do like his look but feel he needs a change.

12. Was there someone who needed a comparison between soom and impldoll? I happen to own an impldoll Ada and a bygg , so I could take some pictures if they're still needed :P

13. Kelaria, your little Tytus is amazing. I love his whole style...it suits him beautifully, and that faceup is positively stunning!:)

14. Wow I like the romantic eyes and ears and tan is always nice! The material those roses are made is pretty cool.
Dark I was the one that wanted the impldoll and soom pictures if you aren't busy. My main deal fell through but the other person is sending the outfit as a apology for breaking the deal, which is nice.

((mini rant below))

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is the thing with breaking deals? I've had two broken doll agreements this year. I didn't have that many deals so the percentage is high. The last one was a family emergency type (which things happen), but the first one wasn't. The first one made me super sad and disappointed for a couple of weeks. I'm still unhappy about it. I'm probably not going to find that doll second hand for a year or more. It was expensive, and My fiance was paying the down payment and it was going to be my Birthday, Christmas and Valentines Day 2016 gifts ...sigh...

I had a deal arranged once on here where I was told, the seller sold to another person because they offered her more money. What!??! I also had another person try to do that with me when I was the seller (I declined). Since when is this something that is acceptable?

Sorry for the rant, who wants to listen to complaining about not getting a grail doll, only other doll collectors... maybe :-P I'm bummed I didn't get my super cool luxury item....

15. Kelaria, you've done a great job putting Tytus together, he is a gorgeous little man!

Oh-oh! If that really is a tan Glot/Glati in the pipelines I'm gonna be in trouble!

16. On soom's site Where is the ask a question thing? I think my adblock is blocking it and I can't remember how to turn off adblock.

17. Chrystika, that's definitely not acceptable, and even though you didn't ultimately enter into a full transaction with that person, you really ought to leave feedback describing that incident. It may not be the first time it's happened, and it'd be good for others to be warned off of doing business with someone who will behave like that.

I've really gotta get through my other dolls, so I can get a look for my TGs nailed down and start doing more than just lurking around here. *_* They need more than anyone else on the list, though, so they keep getting slid down that list a bit... all of them need some special clothes made to accommodate their fantasy parts, they all need some full, fancy blushing, new eyes, new wigs... even the one who's painted at the moment is still a "blank slate" to me, because he's going to be fully cleaned and redone from scratch. But all the lovely spam around here is definitely helping me work out what direction I might want to go with the three I have so far!

18. ViceMage Which deal are you talking about? The deal that just cancelled is a newer member and young person 17 - 20 (i think). The super sad expensive one, wasn't technically agreed to on Doa and I actually know the person IRL through doll meets so I guess I will just let it go, (it's complicated). The others were years ago, so.... I might have the pms still but It would take a bunch of time to find them.

It will be nice to see your dolls after you get them the way you want. It's always nice to be happy with your dolls look.

Dark_Shiva144

Thank you for the Link!!

19. Thank you both! :) I'm so pleased with him! I was worried because he's my first teenie boy and I wasn't really sure what to do about clothes or anything! :XD: It worked out great and I'm so happy with how he has turned out! <3

Chrystika, if you and the seller agreed to an arrangement and then she accepted another (higher) offer, then you should have left her flaky/negative feedback, because that is totally unacceptable. If you offered an amount and the seller accepted, even if no money had exchanged hands, you still had an agreement and she should NOT have backed out. That is the very definition of a flaky transaction and that is something I would want to know about a seller before I buy from them. It's probably too late to leave negative feedback now, but that seller did you wrong.

Money does not have to exchange hands for a deal to be made that should be honored (as long as both parties agreed to the offer, then a deal has been struck). Not honoring your deal in favor of a later, higher offer was shady behavior and is not okay.

20. My Appini arrived from Angeltoast this afternoon. Here is a really crappy cell phone picture that does her no justice, but I really love how it turned out.

21. Awww! She's a cutie! :) I love her markings! Appini looks great in gray! <3

22. karleecakes She is lovely!! love the grey resin!

On the higher price deal It was for a smaller purchase not a doll or parts but clothes or something like that. It has been at least a a couple pf years, doa might not been doing the flaky feedback thing then. I'm not sure it, stood out in my mind.

23. Dolls/parts or clothes, it doesn't matter. She still did you wrong. :/

As far as I remember, flaky feedback has been a thing since I've been on DoA (I joined in June of 2009). Then again, for the first few years, I had no reason to leave any, so I can't be sure. I had one situation where I felt like I could have left flaky feedback and didn't and I've kinda regretted it. I had someone inquire about buying a doll shirt from me and it got far enough that I gave her my paypal email address and then never heard from her again. No message, no payment, no nothing. So, months later, I sold the shirt to someone else. Granted, that was just a single shirt, and it wasn't a HUGE deal to me (not as bad as someone agreeing to a price and then accepting a higher offer), but it did kinda tick me off at the time (and still does a little). Stuff like that is not okay. You don't just agree to a sale and then back out (without a very good explanation... if I remember correctly, when I asked, her explanation was that she found another shirt and bought that one instead, despite agreeing to buy mine from me and not even telling me that she changed her mind until I had to ask!).

Anyway, that's enough of my ranting. I just have this crazy idea that people should be held accountable for their actions most of the time. Silly, huh? ;)

24. OMG so much want for a tan Glot/ Glati! *grabby hands*:aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea

25. Oh I see now. Thanks for clearing that up.

Ooh, I'll be sure to check that out. :)

Oh those little green horns are gorgeous! :D

So cute! :kitty1

26. She's so cute~! I can't wait for my appini to come home!!! :pout:

27. Thanks everyone. I really love her. I can't stop looking at her! One more because I can :):

28. vicemage, I totally hear where you're coming from. I've been hip-deep in a teeny gem redo for the past week and it's been tough. First I had to decide what to do about her character...then how to present it...then take her all apart (somewhat daunting because she's my first centaur and there are so many parts)...then remove a bunch of seams that were sharp as razors...then decide on an art style and a faceup style...then execute the actual artistic work..then put her all together again (took me 3 times to get it right)...whew!:sweat BJDs are so demanding! It must be even more daunting with 3 of them staring at you, demanding attention.

karleecakes, your apini is absolutely adorable!:) What a cute faceup she has.

Chrystika, that's just plain awful, and it lets me know just how fortunate I've been over so many years in this hobby. People are expected to act in a reasonable and honest manner in our marketplace and if they don't, then it certainly should be reported in their feedback thread at the very least...for the protection of others as Kelaria has stated. But if it was too long ago, or was agreed upon outside of DoA, then there's very little to be done about that now. But someone being young and new is no excuse...I could just as easily be ripped off in the marketplace by a teenager as by an adult after all. My heart goes out to you.

29. karleecakes your girl is so painfully cute! I wouldn't be able to stop looking at her either.

And are those green horn kids the next release? Because I am so in love with that face. Awwww...

30. The transaction the bothered me the most, is the one that nothing can be done about. A lady offered a expensive doll for a great price then because she was working so much her inbox got full here blocking a lady from paying for the doll. I offered her a little over a third down payment and a layaway plan through facebook and we made a deal but wasn't going to pay her for a couple of days to be sure the bank credited the money into my account. Then she checked DOA and found all the mailbox full mssgs, and the other lady got the mods involved so she had to to sell her to the other lady to not get bad feedback or maybe a marketplace suspension here. Whe she told me about the other lady I paid the downpayment real fast anyway but because a mod got involved she didn't want to get negative comments here. So I missed out ..... It's worse because I got all excited about the new doll and started looking at patterns and clothes for her and then a day later I didn't get the doll.

31. Sheesh, Chrystika! Sounds like you've had some bad luck with flaky people! :/ That was a bad situation for both you and the other person who was trying to buy the doll! I know you made the deal on Facebook, but I feel like since she was selling it on DoA (and you only used facebook because her pm box was full), then you should have been able to leave her flake feedback here (you should have, but I don't know if you could have). That's definitely the sort of thing I'd want to know about someone I'm potentially buying from!!

I'm sorry about your disappointing almost-transactions. That sucks. :(

32. Yes that was this year and the seller is a doll friend. Really I don't care about people having issues come up, Unexpected things come up, life happens. You have to have a sense of humor about it or it will just beat you down. I had to flake once (years ago) on a split because of personal issues, and I felt bad but there was nothing I could do about it and I could not continue with the split. So things happen in life that affect our finances.

I'm just talking about it here because other doll collectors are the only people who would understand and commiserate with me. I'm still a little sad about it and avoiding the "doll I didn't get" picture thread.

33. Yeah, I understand that stuff happens that is out of our control. I am a very understanding person and if the person has a very good reason for "flaking" I won't leave them negative feedback. However, the reason has got to be an extremely good one and not just "I changed my mind"/"I bought something else" or something of that nature.

34. Believe me, if all my blank dolls decided to gang up on me at once, I don't think I would win. :sweat Due to one reason or another (limiteds, special deals, etc), I've ended up with a bunch that need work, not just the trio of TGs. Luckily, I have at least a general approach I want to take with them, which is to do each for a different element--my Glati will be my earth spirit, so he'll be greens and browns, and very nature-themed. The Dolomi I just got is fire, so lots of reds and golds for xir. I know Yrie will be air, but I'm not sure yet how I'm going to approach her... She's going to be the challenge.

She's really adorable! I love the stripes on her face. :D

35. ;A; Oh man, my computer broke for a few weeks and while I was away I totally missed out on Han and Asronn. Oh my goshhhhh I don't think i've ever wanted another Teenie Gem so much since Appini! Their surprise face is so hilariously cute! Soooo super sad that I had to miss out on them but I can't wait to see owners pictures in the future though! c: I hope at least a few people around here ordered them~

>w< Ahh, and its so nice to see a faceup on your Appini, Karleecakes! I've been dying to see her! She's sooo adorable, Angeltoast does such lovely work! <3
*O* Ohhh, and I saw a page back that your Skoll got a faceup too Kelaria! Gosh he's such a cutie! xD I'm quickly becoming smitten by grey skin dolls, hehe <3

TUT Anyways, its been a while so some quick spam of my Appini, Raum~
He's still in need of much more work and pretty much just wears consistent nonsense for now but is still adorable nonetheless~

So I guess you had her for a while so she's not one of the new bronze apinni's but a dyed one? She is very pretty!!
