Update—without her glasses, my best friend just saw the ad and texted me to ask if I was getting “euphemistic honour,” which, I think has cemented that this was the Sard release for me

 

I love the Sard sculpt but he's just not financially do-able for me now. *sigh* Soom, why you gotta do me dirty like this?

Those long nail hands slay me. If I hadn't spent all my doll money the Luts boy in January, I would be jumping all over this hunk of resin.

I noticed that too but I think it’s just how they painted him, I think if you look close enough you can see they didn’t paint the lips all of the way to the edge… that’s what I’m hoping to be the case, anyway. Here’s hoping they announce him soon so we can all see better pics!!

 

The lips are definitely underpainted to make them look thinner. No changes.

The tongue head with the nail hands though :') I'm weak.

It was [SO] Chrom – Soul Tracker, so cos of this I'll not be surprised if they do it again

 

I hope they haven't changed Sard/Dia's lips. They're my favorite feature!

 

I think painting the inside of the lips as dark as they did in the first image I found is also making them look a tad thinner, and his mouth a little bit more open than some of the other sard pics I’ve seen. Fingers crossed it’s all illusion though, and no changes have been made!

Agreed, they didn't change Sard's lips. Phew! This faceup doesn't show off his beautiful lips very well, but at least it's just the faceup.

I went to look at that version of Chrom and I've never seen that before... can't believe they changed his amazing nose I didn't think Soom would do that! Now I'll be worried about them changing other sculpts in the future One of my faves is Bix and now I'm glad they never re-released him because they'd probably give him a nose job too!

They did underpaint his lovely lips, but they're certainly the same gorgeous lips.

I already ordered mine.

 

I just ordered the full set, I am ecstatic that he's the same sculpt as the 2017 release!! This is my first direct order from Soom

 

Yepppp I’m also now waiting on a Sard—I did both heads, and the fullset, but I held off on the faceup, because those lips look like they’re going to be a blast to paint myself!

 

What colors did everyone get him in? I'm going back and forth between the two, since I don't particularly love either of them, but I think I want his fantasy set with both heads

 

I was going back and forth for a bit too but I ended up choosing bronze! I love the peony stark-white though. Tawny would have been perfect for my character but that bronze I couldn't pass up!

 

I’m going to be getting peony white because I can’t afford the bronze and only the surprise head but still… the opportunity to get SARD, I cannot pass it up!

 

I ended up getting the bronze fantasy set (of course) with regular head, I really had a difficult with deciding on color though since I have a grey Heliot already. The contrast between the grey Heliot and a white Sard would have been nice, but overall; I prefer bronze.

I also could NOT buy both heads or else I would be scouring the marketplace looking for another bronze body within the following months, since the extra head would also need a body.

 

So nice to hear others getting bronze! It's a bit too red toned for me, but I like how it looks on him. It's fitting. I think I might go with peony white (even if I prefer the cream white) because I don't think I can afford the bronze either xD He looks so good in both.

 

That's interesting that you're saying it's red toned. I was wondering if it would end up that way, as some of the darker "tanned" dolls seem to.
I personally have never seen Soom's bronze color, and I was honestly hoping he'd be tawny because of other company's red undertones. But maybe it won't be so bad?

I wish I hadn't missed out on the gray Midsummer night Sard, his horn jewelry keeps me up at night just to taunt me.

 

I did peony white, and I’m excited for him! I needed him to match-ish with his sibling, who is on an old CW ID68 body.

I’ve had a bronze doll before, and it was a really nice colour, but definitely a pretty warm-toned one.

That's a pretty color, I was concerned that it would be something closer to Impldoll's tan color. That was the reddest tan I think I had ever seen.
No hate to anyone that has one, but it wasn't for me.

 

One of my friends has a tawny Soom tiny (I forget which sculpt but he has hooves) and he's very definitely on the red end of the tan scale. She also has another Soom tawny (Ender) and he's more of a lovely butterscotch tan. Soom has ideas about colours and consistency between batches. I have 3 Soom grey dolls and none of them are the same shade/tone of grey even when you account for mellowing. But they're all "Soom grey".

 

I love red-toned tan/brown resin because as the resin ages and yellows it will balance out, whereas resin that starts off with less red ends up with a yellow/green undertone as it ages (which I don't like). I have a Bronze Sard that I got secondhand (made in 2012) and he's still a beautiful color! TBH I don't really get the point of Tawny because it's practically the same as "normal skin"? At least the Tawny I got was not tan at all. It was almost a perfect match for Fairyland's NS.

 

The bronze just isn't for me. I don't tend to like that type of tan and I find it more difficult to match colors on for my taste. I'm never really personally concerned with how resin ages (unless it's especially bad, like greens). But then again I've only had one experience with bronze and it wasn't the best. It was an Idealian from 2020 or something, but I got a separate bronze piece for him made in the same year and it was way different. Soom's resin is wild, but this isn't new to me lol. The experience set me off from bronze though because this boy was pretty dang red, but his replacement piece looked much different and a nicer shade of what I'd expect bronze to be. And it wasn't an issue of yellowing/mellowing.

The funny thing is tawny is my favorite shade for Soom tan, but the tawny I've experienced has varied WIDELY because, you know, it's Soom. The tawny Nor I have is nice and lightly tanned an warm, but I like it personally. He's noticeably different from NS.

But, I got a recently made bronze boy and he looks significantly different from the bronze I had before (and a really nice shade tbh) so I don't know xD I really wish Soom would offer hand options in the current color for sale.

 

I am very tempted to get a Sard just because I tend to collect Soom Elf-eared heads. But I don't really have a place for him or a character.

 

Here's a comparison of tawny and bronze if anyone is curious! Though, be warned, SOOM's colours vary quite a bit between batches.

 

Yeah, I guess the main problem here is that Soom's resin varies soooo much between batches!! So you form one opinion based on a doll you got, when someone else might have the same doll and it's a very different color!? I did tons of research on Tawny before ordering it and was STILL disappointed, lol. Here's my pic of it- Midsummer Night's Dream Sard in Tawny. Doesn't read as tan at all IMO. Gorgeous head though, just a lil nudge for anyone who was on the fence about ordering him



@Arekushia's photo is accurate to my experience with Tawny and Bronze too. For me Tawny didn't look tan, whereas Bronze is a light tan color. And then you have Brown Tan which is straight up not tan at all and just Brown, really. I forget if Soom has any other colors in the tan-brown range?

 

How similar is the Sard sculpt to Dia? Because I have an Elf Dia and I do love Soom sculpts but I like the variety in their sculpts (like I have a Corun, an Albin, a Quartz, a Heliot - none of them look exactly the same). Are they essentially the same sculpt with different ears? Or is their more that sets them apart? I don't know if I would go with this particular order because the bronze's extra cost is a lot and I am not sure I want peony white (I am a fan of the old cream white).

jessholy, Sard have more chiseled facial features, Dia's head little bigger and he more rounded facial features. Somewhere was comparison with Dia and Sard head (it was on green background)

 

They are essentially the same sculpt with different ears, but there are very subtle differences as noted above. Sard/Dia is tied for first as my favorite doll sculpt, and I consider them interchangeable, if that tells you anything.

 

Thanks for all the information @Riku LIN and @overlordu . I will think on it some more - mostly do I want Sard to be a girl or boy and what color...at least Soom does layaway haha!

I have some 2012 bronze and 2022 tawny, and they’re fairly similar. The bronze is a little darker, the tawny reminds me of Iple’s peach gold. Close enough that you could easily blush a tawny head to match that bronze. I don’t have Soom normal to compare, but it’s very noticeably different compared to Luts and Volks. I was actually a little worried about ordering my Chalco in tawny, because I didn’t want him too light (I would have preferred bronze) but I like the colour he arrived in, so it worked out.

(I had seen your head in the DoA Marketplace a long time ago, but wasn't quick enough to buy it right away.)

My Sard arrived Wednesday and I'm so in love with him already!! This was my first direct order from SOOM and I was pleasantly surprised with how well packed he was!! I can't wait to get him a faceup

 

I know Soom resin colors can vary wildly from batch to batch, but on average would you say Soom normal is more pink or yellow toned?

 

I would say the newer Sooms have a pinkish tint while the old Sooms lean yellow.

 

So I just got a second hand Soom Heliot, and he is glorious. Sadly the previous owner misplaced his original horn. I'm not necessarily looking to have an original horn, but wouldn't be adverse to the idea. Does anyone have any advice for either where to find makers of new horns or advice for making one myself? I would prefer not to have one made out of clay, that would be too fragile for my needs. Photo of the head below for tax.

 

Commission a new/custom one. You would just need to maybe to get some silicone from a craft store to make a mold. Worse case is you give them the size of circle and length and just have to glue it in.

 

There are places on Etsy and such that sell the tips from shed deer antlers for craft use. A straight or gently-curved tip with the right diameter would make a pretty convincing horn I suspect.

 

I decided to pull Jamil, my Heliot hybrid, out of the doll display cabinet to spend some time with him. Poor boy is terribly neglected, but I still love him and am glad to have him.


I need to get a nice pic of him with his lover, who stole his body promptly. Jamil is on a Dream Valley Apocalypse Horseman body, the color match is horrible (cream white vs normal pink), but I will fix that when I repaint him finally. It doesn’t show up terribly in pictures, so that’s good enough for me!

He's beautiful. The DV body gives him such a nice, lanky look. Heliot has always been a favourite of mine along with Sard.

I was thinking about getting back to Soom dolls again and I tired to get my head around their releases and I got a question: is there any schedule? Any logic in the releases? Seems like the last super gem was released back in January 2023, until there was this Post MD thing on 2024 with Jack and Io (I do remember Io but who is Jack lol)

do forgive me, I haven’t been into Soom dolls or dolls in general for several years so I’m dumb lol

Does anyone else miss Super Gems? I feel like 90% of the releases have been LG or TG for a long while now. Really regret not jumping on Snow White.

 

I miss the Super Gems deeply. I only seem to buy Sards or Beryls, but I still miss the creativity of the Super Gems in general. The only reason that I can think of for them to stop doing them is if they were not selling.

 

I miss the Super Gems too. Not that the Little Gems and Tiny Gems aren't cute but they seem super limited in number. And I already have enough MSDs and YoSDs. I need another SD to round out my Elf Quest trio and Soom used to make pretty elves...

 

One day, dolly gods (and my wallet) willing, I'll have a Sard and maybe a Heliot.

I'm not a huge fan of the 72-75cm size so many companies have been putting out lately. It's just a bit too much doll for me. I have two 72cm dolls and they're a LOT to me so anything even bigger is just going to be more than I think I can handle reasonably. It would be nice if Soom swung back to some of the "shorter" boys. But I can understand if that's not what the market is demanding although I'm personally disappointed.

 

@Iron_Dog I didn't even think about how all the "Uncle" dolls have really come into trend. I have contemplated trying to get my hands on an elf earred Zak but the size just intimidates me and who would he be? My SDs are already my Valar...and Rivendell elves...and Doriath elves (I probably spelled that wrong, sorry Tolkien). Who would be even bigger than them?! I hope they bring them back though and it isn't a production issue.
