Soom Super Gem Discussion (Basic, Limited & Special Order) - Part 12

Oct 22, 2017

    1. Did anyone just see the new migma? Im so excited to see wings again.

    2. Oof, I might be in trouble with Migma. I just wish I could see the body.

    3. The outfit landed me in a bunch of trouble!

    4. I believe it! I thought hard about getting it myself, but nobody here would wear it. :chomp: I'm tempted to get her anyway and be *done* with it.

    5. @sunnysailor You're welcome! I hope it worked! It takes a little patience but it's pretty easy to do. I do like the banana because I can change eyes a little easier with it but I might have my tools on hand in case it slips again when I am doing that!

    6. that's so valid. If I didn't already have those wings, I'd be even more doomed. I have like 3 characters who are all going to get some use out of it, depending on who it actually fits. I really wish they made it in other sized (like I'd kill for it in EID)

    7. And whoops, I accidentally [hah!] ordered Migma. I showed her to my BFF who fell in love with her head, so we're splitting her up - which works for me, since I mostly wanted her body/wings anyway. Time to forget about her for a few months!

    8. I just saw the new Migma.... my heart <3

I've wanted to build a vampire girl for ages... And I've loved Migma from afar for a while, and this version is gorgeous. The black translucent wings are so cute...

Ugh, the hands are extra, the outfit is extra, the bat parts are extra... I was happy seeing the price at first XD Welp, I have until the 21st to see if I can make this happen. lol

    9. Migma is such a gorgeous sculpt, I highly recommend her - not that I'm biased, or anything ;)

    10. Migma didn't have pointy ears so I am safe! She is a very pretty vampire though. Perfect for anyone who wants one from Soom.

    11. The Hollow head looks like it has pointed ears.....? Is that just the angle of the photo?

I'm still trying to work out if I can order her. XD If I do, I'm going to get the vampire head, and the wings only. I have so moany outfit ideas I want to make for a vampire. <3

    12. @NetherFox Oooh you are right BUT I don't do fangs and she clearly has fangs. So that is why I am safe haha! She's a cute vampire but I don't do vampiric elves.

    13. Eeeeee! I just got this gorgeous set for Iyalisai from Ayu&Ana and I'm in love.

Sorry for crappy phone shot with no bg, I had to share and it's been raining outside all day.

Iya is a brown tan Beryl.

    14. LiselT, you can still see that she is GORGEOUS in that picture! :D

    15. @Cat ^..^ thank you <3 To my dismay it is still raining, so no good outside photos today either. Boohoo. I looked at her this morning on my way out the door to work and couldn't help but grin. Love the look so much! Now I need to make her some silver dancing bells, bangles and other jewelry!

    16. Hey guys, I’d like to ask a favor.

Does anyone have Breccia - Moon Wish or Breccia - Double Harmony on the fox paws? If you do, could I possibly see some pictures of her in a pose or two to help me sketch out the concept for mine when she comes home? Thanks so much!

    17. Does it have to be Breccia? I used to have the paws on my Cuprit and I have a couple of old photos of her standing and walking. The legs didn't pose much so not much variety there. xD

    18. @Yenna Lol, no it certainly does not have to be Breccia! I really just want to see the body with the paws xD Thank you!

      • x 6
    19. I have couple very old ones:

    20. @Yenna I love the blushing on her paws, looks more like a cat than a fox. Gives me hope for the wolf ones I want for Annalise. I am also going to hope that since I will be getting the Double Harmony body maybe I have a smidgen of a chance for more posing options. If not... well, the concept I have in mind is pretty intense just standing there.

@Nightshadow Your Breccia looks so sweet. Thank you for showing me!

    21. Beautiful! Whose body got stolen?

    22. @Anneke thank you <3 She stole Annalise’s (Breccia Soul Stealer) body for a little bit. This lovely lady could use a body of her own. When was the last time SOOM did a body alone event?? Lol

    23. No free choice or body event, but the Doll of the month was posted :) Super Gem Male - Bazael.

I love Bazael as a fantasy type, so I'm excited to see what they do. I adore his wings...I also really want a SOOM boy... XD

    24. Ahh, darn lol. Eventually I will get my paws on a body for Aoife to keep. I always thought I’d be find with heads sharing bodies. Turns out my crew are prima donnas and demand everything of their own! XD

We definitely don’t see much of his sculpt about, do we? He was nifty, though hi fantasy feet are not quite my cup of tea xD Still fun to look at though!

    25. @LiselT I hear you on the everybody demanding their own bodies thing. I generally buy only full dolls but I do have a few hybrids. Finding them acceptable (to them) bodies is a pain.

Bazael is pretty cool but his face reminds me a lot of Rhyia (Euclase) so I'm safe. My wallet is weeping tears of relief.

    26. @Iron_Dog Me too, but a few heads have come up that I just could not resist. Aoife’s was one of those. There are a couple of others floating but I hide from their demanding stares by hiding them in the closet because I do not have the money to get the bodies of their own yet. :sweat I do need to get Kasael and Aoife their own first. My gray Beryl... well, she has no choice but to share that body as she also came with it.

My wallet has run screaming to some sort of institution for I have very much abused it for BJDs this year. *_* It will have to take some holy grail to get me to buy at this point!

    27. @LiselT I am woefully weak against resin in the form of dolls. The dolly gods know this and enjoy tempting me just to see me squirm and try to get away before taking the bait and hitting the buy button.

I hadn't intended to purchase any dolls this year aside from getting Qayin a body (custom RS Mu body). He's been waiting for coming on 2 years now. But just when I was ready to order the pandemic happened, everything shut down and RS asked me to wait to do the order, which I have.

Right after New Year, I got a doll I'd ordered at the end of 2019. Only he was the wrong shade of custom green. Impl told me to keep him and they'd re-make my doll in the correct green. So because of that, I had to find him his husbands which is how I ended up with Akusuo (Dollshe Hound) and Rhyia (Soom Euclase).

Because the dolly gods love tormenting me, while looking for Rhyia, I again saw this other doll by the same seller of Rhyia. I held out for several months but see previous comment about weakness to resin. I not only bought that doll but a head from the seller, too, that I'd been eyeing off and on for just as long as the full doll.

There's 2 months left of this year. Experience tells me that I can't discount the possibility of yet another doll finding it's way home to me. That sound you hear? That's my wallet shrieking in terror.

    28. @Iron_Dog. I usually can hold pretty steadfast against resin (clothes for my resin brats... not so much). But I have brought home Aoife’s head, a gorgeous MD Chalco I have yet to share as I’m waiting to get him dressed, my first Little Gem Adhira and I have a lovely Breccia Double Harmony on layaway. Oh! I can’t forget the light violet Amber I got to gift a good friend, who then insisted she was trading one of her dolls as part of a payment (I was intending it to be straight gift but she was having none of it lol) so I have a Saiph named Willow as well. It has been an unusually busy year for me with resin. Topping it off is my little witch, Regina, a minifee ordered as my Yule gift from my hubby. I feel a bit out of control, not gonna lie.

I... was also totally out of control on adorable and/or gorgeous clothes. I have gotten so much cute stuff for my other minifee and a ton of gorgeous outfits from Ayu & Ana like the one on Aoife a couple posts up. They have just kind of knocked it out of the park for me this year and are super sweet to work with. My girls are loving the dresses. Saiph has one on, Annalise stole 2, Aoife has grabbed 2 lol.

This time of year I tend to forbid myself any major purchases as I’m thinking of Yule for friends and family but I must admit my wallet is eyeing me with all due suspicion because I will probably be looking at eyes, wigs, props and all manner of things to spoil my resin prima donnas that I never ask anyone else for

    29. @LiselT I'm pretty good on eyes as I make my own. Rhyia is wearing a pair I made to be similar-ish to eagle owl eyes as that's the template I'm using for Wahynds (his species; he always wears his fantasy legs and hands and is the meditation head with an open-eyes mod). Rhyia is coveting the wig I bought for the MD Asael head and he's just so stunning that anything I plop on him looks good. If he steals that wig I may or may not be on a wig hunt for that head. I'll need to make a wig for the full doll (Spirit Doll Dark) that the head is travelling with because I can't justify $220CAN for the wig I'd like him to have. But that's fine as I have a cool idea for his wig that I hope will work.

I've seen some gorgeous outfits on a FB group I belong to but I've so far remained strong and not hit buy. Part of that is likely because the Canadian dollar sucks and the exchange rate is painful. So... yea? However, a good number of companies are throwing sales in front of me and a few of them are really, really good.

    30. @Iron_Dog I have always been terrible about eyes and wigs. I kind of have like... basic ones that suit each doll but I know that they are basically placeholders. I like to get everyone into at least some semblance of the state they ought to be in (up until this year, it has been a decade long standing rule that no doll comes home with me unless it is one of my writing characters.... yeah, that rule busted finally). I jealous and love that you make your own eyes. I am so terrible with anything in 3D. It was the same way in college- I can understand the proportion of something in perspective to draw in 3D but I just cannot wrap my head around turning it into a three dimensional object. It’s so fun to watch people who can though! This sadly also happened with wigs, but I am determined to give that a try again this winter >____>

I feel lucky that I am not hit by the conversion rate thing too much. Most prices I see are in USD and that’s that. I feel bad that members of the hobby have to hold back thinking of just how much MORE that means for them and whether or not they can bring something home. It stinks.

    31. @LiselT The eye thing is not terribly hard once you get the hang of it. There is a learning curve and it is steep to start out (there were a LOT of failures that couldn't be salvaged), but the use of eye moulds makes things a lot easier. I was actually making eyes this afternoon as I made changes in-story and the eyes I'd given 2 dolls needed to change to be species consistent (which seemed like a good idea at the time). I didn't double check the eye sizes I had written down with what was actually in their heads and while the eyes turned out very nice if I do say so myself, neither fits well into the doll I made them for :doh.

If I were sculpting eyes from scratch, well... there would likely be a LOT of swear words in use. I used to have excellent spatial reasoning but it is pitiful now because of a TIA stroke. I don't understand anymore how objects fit together 3 dimensionally, which is wildly frustrating as I used to make my own sewing and knitting patterns and can't do that now. I can still follow a pattern but that's it. It made doing my day job or architecture and structural engineering really hard in some aspects but that same job also helped me to force my brain to create new pathways for spatial reasoning. I'll never be as good as I was before but I'm better than immediately after the TIA. I take the victories where I can get them.

I have the same rule about nobody coming home who isn't already a character in an effort to keep the number of dolls I own down. Some would suggest that hasn't been effective as I currently own 68 dolls. However, it's taken me 12 years to reach that number and not all of the dolls I have are ones I bought. I've had friends gift me dolls and Kulfi was an oops from Impl that they told me to keep. Still....

The full doll and head en route to me right now technically weren't characters when I spotted them. But, I kept being drawn back to them over and over again. After mooning over them for nearly 2 months, they told me who they were. I still waffled over them for another 2 weeks before buying them (mostly due to the world upheaval and trying to be cautious with non-necessary spending).

    32. Just bought a Cuprit! She'll be so perfect and old Soom resin colored when I get her, and hopefully I'll finish the needlepoint project I've been putting every spare second into to try to finish by the end of the year soon so I can work on my backlog of clothing projects.

    33. Yay! My personal favorite sculpt <3 Which Cuprit did you buy?

    34. One of the old Black Frost Cuprits. I love that resin color.

I've felt so bad this summer because I've had so many non doll projects to complete, but that will be done soon!

    35. I was so excited that Bazeal was finally getting some love... But I... I don't know how I feel about this new look. He feels incomplete somehow. Like the first Bazeal was all wings and claws and fantasy... I guess I'm safe this time around. I'm defiantly a fantasy doll type collector.

Oh well, if nothing else I'm safe this time around. Gratz to anyone finding a spark with him. I do admit the peony white and romantic head has some great potential for vampire cosumization XD

    36. I'm all about the fantasy/weird/unusual dolls, too. This release is pretty but not for me even if I had the money to spare for him.

I am trying to be strong and not using the upcoming Xmas holiday to justify a doll purchase that breaks a bunch of my Doll Rules. It would be pure fantasy on my part, require a mod and considering that I just got a full doll and head delivered yesterday (OT for this thread) it's not a good idea. The Canadian dollar also sucks hard so while the doll in question is a really good price, once conversion is factored in for the doll + shipping, I'd be looking at an easy $1,000CAN. That noise you hear? That's my wallet weeping softly in a corner between begging me to stop hurting it so badly.

    37. The Canadian conversion and customs is why I ended up not being able to make Migma work out last month. My soul weeps for missing her, but it is what it is.

I'm still hoping they will do an event that includes older sculpts in other resin colours, mostly grey... I want to make a pair of drow XD

Bazeal is still beautiful sculpt tho, but not for me :)

    38. @NetherFox I was lucky this time as my boys slipped in and out of Customs fast with no fees slapped on them. I still think I'm on a list with Customs though as they nail me with depressing frequency *sigh*. The doll I'd seen is actually in Canada so Customs wouldn't be a thing but that conversion rate is still mighty harsh.

Grey resin... Oh how weak I am to that. I own 13 grey dolls now. Ironically I have 2 of my 3 grey Soom boys sitting on the loveseat beside me. My newest doll, Macian (Spirit Doll Dark) is also grey and he's sitting on the loveseat, too. I have 3 grey, 1 pistachio ice cream green, 1 honey mango (I personally find him more salted caramel than honey mango), 1 rose white and 1 mellowed white on the love seat. My other Soom guys are ebony (2 of them) and green. I've also got a wicked weakness for coloured resin.

    39. I hear that Soom gray has a wide variance in shade/tone. Do you find that to be the case?

    40. @Anneke Yes. It's not a huge, glaring difference but it is easily visible when you see all my grey Soom boys together. Some could be attributed to mellowing and my not being the first owner of 2 of them. Since they've been with me, their time out of their boxes is minimal as I lack display space and even when I have them out on the loveseat, they're not out overly long as I have to keep an eye on my cat because he firmly believes doll wigs are cat toys and the dolls simply fancy stands.

If you're interested in seeing the grey I have, I can take a pic for you. I have ID51 Gulino 2017, Euclase 2008 and Auber Storm Sprite 2011 (Euclase and Auber were both 2nd hand; Euclase was purchased this year and Auber in 2012).

    42. Rhyia is wearing a different wig right now, too. The wig that was supposed to be for the head I recently received was a very strong NO from Linon regardless of the fact that it was much too big on him. I tried it on Rhyia on a whim and it looks fantastic on him but also changes his vibe... which isn't actually terrible. Rhyia is so beautiful that I swear I could plop a dirty mop on his head and he'd look stunning.

    44. Cuprit is here! She is so perfect, and hopefully I can finish my current project soon so I can start figuring out a pattern for her!

Also hopefully her wig and eyes will arrive soon.

    47. Thank you, it seemed like forever before I got my first Dia. They were usually sold before I could get a message out to the owner. I finally got one in a split but he was the vampire head. I didn't bond with him like I wanted so I sold him, sadness. Then a friend decided to sell this one and the rest is pure bliss.

    48. Things happen in certain ways for a reason. I never pictured myself with a Euclase although I thought he was lovely and interesting. I liked the meditation head with the wing ears but it was a closed-eyed sculpt and I didn't consider (or have the funds) to get an eye-opening mod back in the day. Fast forward to this year and a 2nd-hand Euclase (first release), open-eyed meditation head with bad seam removal stood up and declared himself to be Rhyia and needed to come home. He's perfect to be Rhyia and so utterly gorgeous. But if I'd gotten him back when he was first released, I know he wouldn't be the same doll loaded with personality that he is now.

    49. I understand that. :3nodding: I think the problem with the vampire Dia was because he couldn't be anything else but a vampire. This guy can reinvent himself as many times as he wants. If I'd had a regular Dia first, then got the vampire Dia I might have kept it.

    50. Yeah, unless you're going for a specific character some things like vampire teeth (and ears if applicable) just aren't going to cut it if you want or need some flexibility.

Macian (Spirit Doll Dark) is a new-to-me doll and one of his previous owners VERY heavily modded his head. So much so that you'd be very hard pressed to have him as anything other than some flavour of cyborg. The mods (which are highly detailed and extremely well done) are both subtractive and additive. While it's possible that you could remove them/re-sculpt what's removed, it would be a huge project best handled by someone with a lot of experience and I highly doubt he'd look like his original sculpt did. He sat in the MP for a long time before I bought him and I absolutely believe its because of his mods (as stunning as they are).

All that being said, he's perfect for the character of Macian as he currently looks. His unmodded sculpt wouldn't work at all for Macian. And no, despite his cyborg-ish mods, he's not a cyborg. He's a High Priest of Bao-Tein, Goddess of Metalworking & the Forge and he had a near fatal accident at the forge. Bao-Tein saved his life (barely as she's not the God of Healing) but in doing that, the molten metal fused to him and is imbued with faint traces of his god's power.

      • x 1
    51. @Iron_Dog - I thought all of that was part of the sculpt! I didnt know those were the mods, I thought it was part of his original face haha.

    52. @xyuemoto Nope, that's all mod work. His unmodded face is very nice but wouldn't work for Macian's character unless it was a pre-accident version of him. The bone wings are not modded and are original to his sculpt.

    53. At this point, I would love an Ignim, Gneiss, or Epidia, with an option to get them on a human body. It seems like the oldest sculpts get the most love, but girls from their time don't get rereleased at all.
