Soom Super Gem Discussion (Basic, Limited & Special Order) - Part 12

Oct 22, 2017

    1. @Khlovera My Elf Saiph ( mine is the romantic version ) doesn't have that problem, I think it could just be your friends.

I'm having problems finding eyes that fit my romantic Elf Saiph, does anyone have any ideas which ones will work?

    2. Hello! I'm new on DOA, and I just got my Soom Euclase home :D
I got a question for Soom's jointed hand though, I wasn't paying attention when buying Euclase and forgot to buy his long nail hands (I've already posted a couple WTB in FB trading group,) and with some research I found that Legend Doll might have what I'm looking for. But I'm not sure if their grey skin will actually match Soom's grey skin, and if 70cm hands would fit Soom's SG size? Plus this whole magnetic hands ordeal, can they connect well? Appreciate your help!!

    3. @Kaname Kimura I am pretty sure she was photographed with 12mm eyes in...but you might have to get super light colored ones to get them to show because of the lowered lids?

@Livazy Welcome!!! Are you looking for jointed hands or molded hands? If it's jointed hands, then they usually are S-hook only and you would have to take out the whole magnetic joint to get it in. The magnetic joint has the elastic on it. You would need to pull it out, probably use something to clamp off the elastic, slip out the joint, then slip on the S-hook of the jointed hand. (This is me thinking out loud about how it works - I haven't changed from magnetic to s-hook hands.)

As for if they would fit or not or even color match, I am sadly no expert. Hopefully someone else knows!

    4. @jessholy Thank for your reply! Now the hunt begins...

    5. @Kaname Kimura In the promo's she's wearing 12mm "Warm Taupe" which honestly looks like a mostly white eyes with with this light pinkishbrown in the center.

    6. @jessholy I can't believe I forgot to look at the website :doh

My brain is definitely not working today!

    7. Thanks for the reply! Wow switching to jointed hands sounds complicated lol I'm looking for any kind of hands with long nails, but preferably the original Soom hands. I think I might just develop new skill and add on the long nails my self with epoxy clay if I really can't find anything XD

    8. Does anyone know if you can use eyes from other places as long as they are the correct size for soom dolls or do they have to be from soom? I ordered some eyes from Moonlight BJD house and I'm worried that they won't work.

    9. @Vienel As long as they are the right size, they should work.

    10. Most of my Soom dolls have eyes from other places.I frequently like smaller irises than Soom uses. Generally, low dome eyes work best.

    11. I have Flawed Souls (my own brand) in Rhyia (Euclase), Oscar Eyes in Sancire (ID51 London) and eyes by Dreaming Tree Studio in Ondraeden (ID51 London), Sleet (Auber Storm Sprite) and Iwa-Xine (Boehm Smoke Sprite). I agree with @nancy_schroeder_ca that low dome seem to work the best (at least in the dolls I own).

    12. I was trying to hold out on posting my Galena until her clothes arrive but with them stuck in Hong Kong post for 32days and counting I might as well post her now lol

I really love this doll! Ive always wanted a doll who I could dress in modern sexy clothes sometimes but who still looked aesthetically compatible with my other soom ladies. I decided to make her into an Imp character I've had on the back burner for a while so needle felted her some horns and a tail in matching grey Maori wool. I'm currently looking for a wig that fits better and doesn't look so dang choppy and cheap :XD:

      • x 2
    13. @-T2P- I love the felted horns. Very cool!

@Vienel Any brand of 12mm and possibly 14mm eyes will do so long as they are low dome. Low dome means there is just one curve to the eye, looks like half a circle. I own some Oscar Doll (no longer in business), some Soom, some Mako, and some other ones that might be Glib/general acrylic or glass eyes. What it comes down to is what you want color wise and what you can afford price wise. Resin eyes will cost more than glass or acrylic. Glass will cost more than acrylic. Silicon eyes aren't bad but might fade or degrade faster than all other types of eyes.

    14. Well... I got my Euclase this afternoon. And a miracle happened. His resin color is a reasonably close match to my horned/romantic Lordstar Heliot head. The one it's been impossible to find a bod for.

*coughs* Mister Euclase may have lost his body to the last of my free-range Heliots. I like that wing-eared goof, but this collection has priorities.

      • x 3
    15. Well... Maybe Euclase can borrow the body occasionally! It's always nice to get a body for a difficult head!

    16. *shifty eyes* I got my Euclase for a very similar reason. Poor Eucalse. It's nothing personal.

    17. *chuckles* Poor guys... Show up all innocent-like and *BAM*... Body-snatched by some rogue Floating Head...

      • x 3
    18. Mine likely realizes how good he has it. No need to worry about body snatching and he's got 2 husbands to keep him company/happy/entertained.

    19. Well he may not have a name (or clothes) but at least he's got a face! I've wanted a Dia for the near 10 years I've been in this hobby and now i finally feel like I'm sitting at the cool kids table TT.TT I'm leaning toward Oak or Sycamore for his name

    21. Ooooh he is handsome! Yea for a Dia~ Hmmm I feel like Oak is more common as a first name???

      • x 1
    22. He is really handsome and I like Oak too. Congrats!!!

    23. I do love this hobby.

I have gotten my hands on a light violet Amber and I can't wait to go visit a friend in the hobby next weekend to gift her. <3 Despite my fussing, I will be trading for a Saiph who will be my first SOOM who has no defined character. O.o Wonder who she will tell me she will be!

    24. Does anyone here have an Epidia? She’s an absolute grail of mine but it occurs to me I’ve never seen one in the wild

      • x 2
    25. The one that immediately springs to mind is the one @Sicktress has/had? I'm also pretty sure fishcake has one but I might be mis remembering that. She definitely a rare sight both here and on Instagram.

      • x 1
    26. @chalyss has mine! :D They are so cute in person, photos don't do them justice! I had the panther version, the human one looks a *lot* like Rhianna.

    27. Here's her pic--the feet were a hot mess but the rest of her was delightful (go for the human version body)

    29. @Sicktress you gave her the most gorgeous brows....<3 <3

    30. @Sicktress - I was just about to say the same thing! Gorgeous brows! :D

    31. Hey everyone, I have a soom sard super gem body, and I was curious what jointed hands fit the body best? One of his hands are missing, sadly.

      thank you in advance. :aheartbea

    32. Super Gem B.J.Hands (UA Kit) - The Gem
They come unassembled but you can string them using monofilament fishing line--it just takes patience. They send the elastic and directions with the hands. They are awesome hands, the best, imo.

    33. I can’t take credit for this faceup, it was by Dollgirls/Darjeeling Studio!

    34. Hey guys, I've been wondering something and the company photos aren't helping me figure it out so I thought I'd ask. If anyone here has elf Saiph in both basic and romantic versions, can you please confirm for me if the only difference in the sculpts is the eyes or if there's more? I'm especially wondering about the brows.

    35. Has anyone who ordered Elf Saiph with a face up received her yet? I know my last payment was July 1st...so did they make her from then or before that??

    36. I haven't received mine yet either.

    37. I do not have the elf Saiph coming but I did just bring home a normal Saiph <3 I will have to take some pictures of her soon.

    38. Still haven’t received mine either and I didn’t order her with face up.

    39. I hope mine ships soon. Guess we just gotta wait.

    40. My apologies that she is not the new elf Saiph. I traded a few weeks ago for regular Saiph and she's so pretty! She has a faceup by Angeltoast and I am so glad I swiped this dress from Ayu & Ana, the colors go so well with her!

    41. @LiselT I watch their etsy page every day but alas no new dresses like the ones you snagged. I might have to wait for commissions to open up for them.

My Elf Saiph has shipped! I just hope she is here by the weekend or at least by next Monday. It's going to be hard to excuse myself from a live Zoom lesson when the doorbell rings.

    42. @jessholy I got lucky to snap that one up.

Also, if you are wanting to commission them, message them now. =3 I just got a slot with them last week!

Oih, exciting! I hope she arrives quick and safe!

    43. @LiselT Really? Well I just sent them a message so I guess I'll see what they say. They told me December when I messaged them back in July.

I hope so too! I am excited to have her home.

    44. @jessholy Really? It might have been June or July when I asked. I have been a bit bjd happy this year since I couldn't take any vacations. :sweat I snapped up quite a few of their dresses this year. 5 or 6 I think? They told me September when I asked so hopefully you can get it!

I am waiting on clothes for an MD Chalco and I have a layaway for a lovely Double Harmony Breccia. Joining them will be my first Little Gem too, an Adamelli.

    45. @LiselT Well it's hard to compete against you if you're snapping up every fantasy dress. ;P I asked in the later part of July and they said December so we'll see. I really want to commission an Arwen like dress for Elf Saiph.

Oh I feel you on doll happy...I think this year I have bought 6 new dolls since January. Only 2 have arrived - Azur and a Dearmine doll. I have Elf Saiph on the way, another doll I am waiting on shipping, and 2 from Volks who again waiting on shipping.

You need to take more doll pictures and show us all of your doll family! Or at least put them on Flickr - I totally followed you there and here since we seem to have a similar love for the fantasy look haha!

    46. @LiselT Your Saiph looks so pretty, and that dress is gorgeous.

    47. @jessholy ehe...they were so pretty amd my girls hadn't gotten new clothes in forever :sorry

Ahahaha.... yeaaahhh I'm pretty bad about that, especially considering how many I have acquired over the years.

      Bronze Vesuvia (human)
CW Beryl x2 (one human, one hoofled)
      Brown tan Beryl (human)
      Gray Beryl (human, x2 heads)
      Brown tan Obsidius (human)
      CW MD Breccia (human)
      CW Soul Stealer Breccia (human)
CW Double Harmony Breccia (on layaway)
      CW Albin (human)
      Brown tan Chalco (hoofled)
      NS Saiph (human)

That's all I can think of atm:sweat Some are in various states of basic completion, lol. I will definitely try to be better about photos if anyone wants to see them. ^^

@Cloudedmind Thank you <3 I am so happy the dress compliments her so well!

    48. I thought I was a bit doll happy for purchasing 2 dolls earlier this year and thinking about buying a full doll and a head in the immediate future. My Euclase was one of the 2 I hadn't planned on purchasing but I'm super happy that I did buy him. I got another doll this year, too, but didn't purchase him so I'm not counting him as such even though he was an unexpected add to my doll collection.

    49. Y'all, Elf Saiph is home! I introduce to you: Celebrían, Lady of Rivendell!

I have to fiddle with her wig a bit more to get it where I truly want it. Her outfit is gorgeous but the two fans can be a pain because they have bendable wire parts that bend easily which makes posing...an adventure. She has some very thick seams that I am not 100% sure about what to do because at first I thought they were stained but I couldn't fathom how stains arrived on her.

And of course, I had to get her to pose with her husband who was slightly embarrassed that his wife has such a sexy dress - the front is one long slit up to the waist. (Not as embarrassed as me - I had to hop out of the shower to sign for her, my mail lady didn't bat an eye at the bath towels thankfully.)

    50. @jessholy She is gorgeous!!
I loved the dress but I found the fantails super awkward, also I couldn't afford it at the time.

    51. @Kaname Kimura Thanks! I am really happy with her face up and how eyes and a wig I had all worked out together!

I still looooove the dress and the over skirt/bustier. Luckily the fans are detachable so I plan to not have them attached unless I need her to look extra grand.

    52. @jessholy She's lovely <3 I think the outfit looks better in your pictures than the promos. The elf ears look so good on her, too.

    53. @LiselT Thanks! The outfit is gorgeous no matter how it is photographed. I like the fact that the overskirt is actually 4 different panels so I can flare them out and arrange as I see fit. I love her ears too - though they seem to be very lightly touched with paint - I just gotta play with her wig more to show them off properly.

    54. @jessholy That is pretty nifty for dramatic effect, lol. The colors suit her very well. Be sure to show her off <3

    55. I received my Saiph yesterday and I opened her today. She’s really lovely and I love the body! Also can someone help me out with installing the head? I legit have no clue on how to put on the head. :XD:

    56. I just got my Saiph today too ^-^

First remove the headcap from the head, set them aside. With one hand hold the body firmly at the bust and with your other hand grab hold of the resin banana (or at least that's what I call it) and pull up, slide the now visible elastics through the open slot at the back of the head, place the banana down in the divot, make any adjustments and then put the headcap on. Hopefully that makes sense?

The banana just acts like a regular S hook.

    57. Thanks! Well I accidentally let the banana thingy slip so now my girl is in two pieces lol :XD:

    58. @sunnysailor That happened to me too! So get a long thin ribbon or string, loop it through the elastics, guide the ribbon or string through the neck hole, pull the elastic through so that the chest is back on the torso, then keep pulling so you can slide the head on and put the banana back in. I feel like the banana was extra smooth this time but she can be put back together!
