Soom Petit Gem Discussion - Part 1

The headcap has two little holes where the magnets sit. You have to glue the magnets down into the hole, but they sit flush with the resin. Then the horns themselves have the same set up on the bottom of them. So when they snap together, the whole spot looks flush. You could put a wig on them if you wanted.

 

That makes more sense than what I was imagining. Meipy might end up being my first doll so I was confused about the antenna’s installation. Thank you for the help! I’ll be so happy if I can order the cute little bear bee before deadline! The Petite Gem line stole my heart.

I actually have more questions. Do we know the measurements for Petite Gems and what size eyes go best with them? I tried looking through the thread but I missed it. I think it was one of the first questions asked. I plan on making clothes and look into how to make eyes as well.

 

There's a measurement chart on the original Ondiin's page which should mostly apply to Meipy as well! I think the standard eye size is 12mm but would be curious if people have used other sizes. I'm also looking forward to trying to make some teeny clothes!

 

When I ordered my Fosy I ordered some Soom silicone eyes in 12mm. They are really cute for a large "doe eye" look. But I think that probably 8-10mm would actually look better.
I'm thinking Soom might just recommend that size because they don't make anything smaller.

I was thinking of testing out my pukipuki's 8mm eyes in my Meipy when she arrives just to see if it's possible to go that small! I ordered the brown eyes with her (and was debating getting the blue too) because they look gorgeous in the stock pictures, but as she's a 'big sister' kind of character I might end up getting smaller eyes as well for more maturity.

 

12mm, like Mako Eyes, don't fit Rudy well at all. They do fit Ondiin because her eyes are a bit bigger. I stick with size 10mm and 9mm because it fits both of them and looks pretty nice. I also did try 8mm and they work well too. Those pictures are in my gallery if anyone wants to look.

How long does it take from the time the order says 'preparing' to the time the doll is shipped?

Let's see, I ordered Ondiin the 31st of May and she/he still hasn't shipped. I think it took a week maybe for it to be before shipping.

Petit Gem has become one of my favorites and I’ve been keeping a look out on Soom’s new releases. Meipy is adorable! Now I’m wondering if they will make something with little feather wings.

I’m more of a visual learner so I’m very greatful for the picture. I’m leaning more towards the 10mm myself but the 9mm dosen’t feel odd either so I agree with you. By the way, your little one is adorable. The eyea on the right look like a chip of labradorite - my favoret stone of all time.

Also, what is this I hear about you making eyes?

 

Thank you! I’ll go copy those measurements. I’ve never sown clothes before so I have to have them. Hopefully Meipy isn’t that far off from Odiin. I’ll wish us both luck with making teeny tiny clothing!

 

They have the same body, just different magnetic parts, so you should be good to go My Rudy is wearing 12mm SoulinaBox box eyes by the way, and they just fit becuase I slightly made her eye sockets bigger (wth a dremel, haha). I still thing they're a bit too big for her, but they fit her overall theme the best, so they stay for now.

 

I hope Soom will create more Petit Gem with sleeping face.

My Ondiin arrived today! I wish I had time to take pictures, but it was nearly midnight when I got home.

 

I finally got some pictures of her! However, it's night again. So...they're not gorgeous pictures by any means. But I'm still excited!



Getting her magnets in was really rough. I should have waited until I got home to put them in. They pretty much just gave me large magnets, so some of them stick way out.

 

Your Ondiin is lovely! Makes me wish I got one of them. Sorry to hear the magnets were difficult-I have way too much trouble putting any magnets in myself, so I feel your pain. Congrats on your beautiful girl.

 

Question about dressing/making clothes for Petit Gems- What's the head situation like? I heard they have faceplates, but is it easy to take the whole head off? Do you have to dress them from the bottom up/using snaps etc.?

 

Thank you! @City Kitty I swear that I got more glue on me, the table and around the magnets then I did in the actual holes.

They do have face plates! I haven't taken any of my dolls heads off, but the little s hook sits pretty face forward. Looking at it, they don't look difficult to remove. If I get home at a decent time tonight I'll take a picture for you.

 

The head is a faceplate. But removing the head is fairly easy since the doll is so small. You don't have to struggle with the S-hook as much. Just turn it and it will slide through. You still need a ribbon of some kind to get it back on though. Its just less tension.

Depending on the clothes you could just dress them top to bottom.

All my Ondiin's outfits have Velcro on the back. No head removal needed.

The customer support is really weird it's not like a direct email to them

At the bottom of the page in the tiny text (make sure you allow flash to run and load it) click "Email" and then fill the info out, it's then dropped on like a forum board and then an employee will pick it up and you'll get a return email with the response

Both Rudy and Ondiin are so incredibly cute. I can't wait till I can apply for marketplace access so I can look for one of them.

Meipy is cute too, for some reason I keep thinking that with those antennae it would make a nice giraffe? Just add brown spots and dark blushing on the mouth and nose

 

I've been trying to figure out what Meipy's antenna looked like and that's it! Giraffe horns! I'm not a big fan of the antenna personally I think for a more be look it should've been longer and thinner

And same here in the marketplace i'm dying to get my hands on a fosy!

 

They somewhat remind me of chess pawns as well. In fact I'll admit that was a fairly large factor in me ordering the outfit with the little crown as well! I also wish they were more delicate-looking but I thought maybe I can make alternatives somehow if I really don't like them!

 

I don't think it'll be too hard at all, I actually talked about this with someone before and the only big obstical would be making them thin but finding a way to incorporate the magnets which are why it's originally so thick

But maybe non metallic alternatives like attached to headbands or hidden in wigs could be good ideas to try

 

Or you could install the magnets in the head and make the antannae out of metal? That way you don’t need magnets in de antennae since the material wil stick to the magnets by itself.

 

My Meipy is shipping! But the tracking code doesn't work (yet, hopefully)

They just released Minel! Anyone getting one? I just wish there were more differences since the face looks like Rudy...

I just saw Minel and aaaahhh I'm so excited, I really like him! I actually really like how he looks like Rudy and Leepy, since I love them and I don't have either right now. I also really like the big ears and the gem theme and pants are soooo cute!!

 

Oh my gosh. Minel is SO adorable!! She/he? Looks like Rudy without all the extras! Ahh!! Sooo cute!!

 

Minel looks cute, especially in the picture where it has it's ears turned down. Only I'm sad they didn't show pictures of the blank doll. With all those gems it's hard to see what the ears and tail would look like without them.

I went ahead and sent an email asking if they have pictures of the doll without faceup and blushing.

 

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but, what sort of animal is Minel supposed to be?

 

From the ears and the tail, I'm guessing Minel is a rabbit. I like the gem-themed face-up.

 

My best guess is a deer faced flop ear, but everyone else says rabbit so I guess that's it?
(not a dumb question at all, I was wondering myself. One of the reasons I want to see the ears without the gems)

 

I was loading up my cart with a little grey Minel with the works, but it seems they're double charging for the outfit? It says $37, and then charges another $37 when you choose outfit A or B, for a total of $74. It's cute, but not that cute! lol I sent them a question about it, and if it turns out it's only $37 for the outfit, I'll finish up buying.

@sno4wy Totally legit question! As others have said, looks like a cross between Rudy and Leepy to me. So... it's a Beer? (bunny deer)

I wish we could get some of that "ore" they're mining too! lol Mine may have to just settle with getting some Starburst candy. XD

 

$74 for that outfit seems too much I hope it’s a mistake.

 

If it was listed as $74 it was definitely a mistake, it's marked as $37 now.

 

But when you try to choose a color it adds another $37 making your total $74. They haven’t fixed it yet. Or that is one expensive pair of pants.

 

There must an error in how the pricing was set up for the outfit. There is no way the doubled price is right.

 

Oh man, I always loved Rudy's face but don't own one so Minel seems perfect and super adorable to me, but between not knowing what's up with the crystals on its body/face (Are they part of the doll or part of the faceup/blushing, and if so what's underneath?) and the outfit overpricing issue I'll for sure be waiting to order one if I do decide to get one, yikes.

 

I'm so indecisive about getting Minel. I just adore him. But I'm confused about the crystals too.

 

The gems are part of the blushing and faceup, so if you order the doll without them you won't have the gems. Unfortunately there are no pictures of the doll without.
If you read the description at the bottom of the page it says the faceup comes with the gems on the forehead, and the bodyblushing comes with the gems on the tail and ear parts. So if you want al the gems you need to select both options.

 

Well that's extra bizarre that the ear gems are part of the body blushing. Paying an extra $95 USD to get the gems is kind of dumb in my mind.

That does make another huge conflict though. Those are some expensive gems (Which kinda look like glitter?) I don't think it's worth THAT much to get glitter.

 

I don't think it's that bad... Minel's Face-up is $50 and the body blushing is $45, while a previous Petit Gem Meipy's Face-up is $40 and Body Blushing was $48. So it's $3 - $10 extra for the gems...
