Soom Petit Gem Discussion - Part 1

The only con I can think of is the single joints? I think a little sueding would help keep the knees from buckling.

I too hope SOOM will re release Ondiin and Julie. I could have gotten both secondhand, I just didn’t have the money.

Yeah, it is best to get them direct to save yourself from the secondhand price markup. I’m still asking myself why I didn’t get in on them when SOOM first announced Ondiin. I saw them, just blew it off. Darn... Maybe if SOOM knew we were interested they might do Ondiin again. I know they have done Rudy twice. Please SOOM!

 

I do this often too. See a doll for sale from a company, brush it off, then pine for it later @,@ I guess maybe I like the hunt more than I realized. That's why so many of mine are second hand? Haha

 

I *REALLY* want a Soom Julie!! She's so cute! I love poodles as an aesthetic thing and as soon as I saw her I was like "WHY AM I JUST NOW DISCOVERING THESE DOLLS!?"

so yes. please re-release her. I need one. Immediately.

 

is anyone else's doll strung rather oddly? My Rudy had the knot of his arm strings right at the opening on the left shoulder hole, it messed with his arm movement a bit. And the knot for the legs and torso string is right below the neck (and it didn't ever register as such even though i've taken his face plate off haha), which makes restringing a bit tricky since it's so crowded in there!
i had to restring my Rudy's arms because when i was trying to get the knot inside the torso, the elastic tore and was barely hanging on ; o; He's strung with jewelry elastic right now, plus some wire since it's pretty loose and i don't feel like trying to get it right again;;

 

Ooo! Good luck with that! My hands are too big for me to ever enjoy restringing a tiny doll! I had wonderful trouble just trying to put on one fist hand. End result: I lost the s hook....

I didn't think I needed an Ondiin, but.... now I do! lol I'm thinking grey...but the tawny is cute too...decisions!

No shipping on my Fosy yet... I figure a couple more weeks. I got the full set so expect it to take a little longer.

Bahaha! Good taste! I ordered grey too! Faceup and both pairs of eyes because I love the red but think the yellow will look good in the grey too.

 

I debated on the eyes. I probably should have ordered some. I just had a hard time deciding! They're all so pretty!!

 

Awww! I can't wait to see everyone else's Ondiins! I'll be skipping out on this release. I prefer Soom's brown tan resin over tawny.

 

I think I will be skipping as well. Since my Rudy is in Tawny I didn't want Ondiin to be in the same skin tone and I'm not a big fan of grey. However I'm really happy they re-released Ondiin for those who have been wanting to get him/her Can't wait to see what you guys do with them!

I actually didn't realize there was two tan-ish colors! I've never had a tan Soom doll. Is the brown darker than the tawny? (Or favors a different shade?)

@Angelesk Rudy was originally released in brown tan and tawny. I don't know what tawny looks like in real life but from pictures it looks a bit pink, but in a natural way. It's just too light for me.

There's also a bronze tan, I believe. I don't think any of the petit gems have been released in that color yet.

They are quite a bit different. The tawny almost looks like a slightly darker normal skin, maybe?

 

Thank you for pointing out Tawny is different then Brown! For some reason I forgot the difference. I’m thinking about picking up a tawny Ondinn!

 

Oh yea I completely forgot. For some reason I thought Tawny was the Brown Tan! Great! Now I don't know if I should get Ondinn! Nuuuuu lol

 

Tawny is more a... very natural looking, darker normal skin (a light tan), I personally think that any of the petitgems still look absolutely charming in tawny, but I can understand that its not brown enough for some people But there would always be the possibility to dye them a bit darker?

Some numbers, for anyone who's curious...
Last brown tan release was the first Rudy (Dec 2016), making it the third (ever) release of a pet doll in that color (first was 12/2013 Teddy/Polly christmas Ver. and second 5/2015 Tinn Beaver). Soom has so far never rereleased a doll in the same color as the original release (or any rereleases in the meantime), unless they did a Post MD Event. Ondiin was originally released in white and normal, and now in tawny and grey, so if they ever release her again it should either be brown or a fantasy color.

Out if the 5 Petit Gems (Rudy, Fosy, Ondiin, Leepy, Julie, not counting in Eva since she's human), these combinations are up for rereleases:
Rudy in normal skin, Leepy in normal and tawny, Julie and Fosy in normal and grey. Lots of normal there, so maaaaaybe they do a freechoice with them? Who knows.

(They're out of the scheudule for the Post MD Events by the way, they're normally in March... its possible that a Petit Gem will turn up there too, since they were added to the last two post MD Events in 2017.)

 

If you like the tawny you should go for it! I just know that for myself tawny wouldn't work and nor would grey skin.

If things don't work out, Ondiin would be a breeze to sell.

 

I hope you're right about Soom doing a MD event sometime soon! Petit gem is the only one I haven't seen in that event yet.
However, good news for anyone who ordered Fosy! They're shipping! I just got my notice today. I ordered the full set, so possibly they've already sent the blank ones out.

 

Yeah the haven't sold them in any post MD in the past its about time and I might need a second petit gem, haha, so come on soom!

 

You know, looking at the Petite Gems on the site, their pricing is very curious. I'm just intrigued as to why they priced them the way they did.

Ondiin 1st ed. was $175 : White & Normal
Ondiin 2nd ed. is $198 : Grey & Tawny +$9
Rudy 1st ed. was $171 : Tawny & Brown Tan +$10
Rudy 2nd ed. was $160 : White & Grey +$24

Interesting that Tawny Rudy was $171 and Tawny Ondiin is $207 while grey Ondiin was $198 and grey Rudy was $184.
Rudy didn't cost extra for Tawny while Ondiin does while the grey didn't cost extra, the grey Rudy did.

 

JellysFancy, it's only my opinion, but maybe because Ondiin have more parts (wings + more bigger tail). Maybe they put price of material in price.

My Fosy as a fullset was cheaper than my Ondiin as an *almost* fullset.
I bought the Tawny Fosy +$11 and the Gray Ondiin (with no extra charge?).

My Ondiin without eyes was still $11+ more than my Fosy as a fullset. It has to be extra parts that they're charging for since Ondiin has the wings, horns, and long tail.

I am crossing my fingers for a Petit gem MD event though. I can't miss out on a Rudy again! I can't even find one on the MP.

 

When is the Petit Gem MD event? Does anyone know when it usually is? Hope they’ll announce it soon

 

Sooms Post MD Events aren't specific for a certain line, they normally do that for 4 or 5 lines together It should have been in March, but since that didn't happen, it should be, theoretically, this or the next month.

I forget how much work it is for me to get all those tiny magnets in and facing the right directions! lol
Thankfully, none put in wrong this time, but I may add another small one to the tail to make it a little stronger.

I just ordered a grey Ondiin, fell very hard for the cute dude.

And I finally got my fiance to finish the blushing and faceup on my tawny Rudy! I love how it turned out! Now I just need some better eyes for him/her and I need to decide if it's gonna be a boy or a girl so I can figure out a cute name that isn't just Rudy xD

Not sure when the actual release will be, but according to this list for an upcoming convention there's a new Petit Gem named Meipy.
I wonder what animal it will be? It sounds a bit like a sheep to me, which would be pretty cute!

Looks a lot like the Faemon Maple to me (maybe hence the similar name?), also seems like it will be available in cream white and honey yellow as well.
The doll itself is definitely not for me but the outfit is super cute! I hope they'll have a version with pants available for my Rudy, he's tired of dresses already.

Meipy has been released!
Indeed a tiny version of the Faemon Maple! I think the sentiment of redoing older/unloved dolls (to be fair the Faemon line wasn't very successful) in different sizes/styles instead of re-releasing them over and over again is a nice one.
I hope we'll see more of this from Soom in the future.

Does Soom tend to be super consistent over time with their resin colours?

I'm seriously considering a Meipy but not sure what skintone to get. I like the honey yellow in the pictures, but I'm worried it might be TOO yellow based on pictures of previous dolls with the same skintone (Maple, Chici).

Do the clothes for other petite gem dolls fit on each other? :P ex. Meipy Bear's dress would fit on Ondiin? Considering getting it so she will have more than one outfit What do you think

 

I've seen people saying they ordered one outfit for another doll, so I think it should work!

 

I don't have my Ondiin yet, but I do have Leepy, Fosy and Rudy. They all have magnetic tails but the same body. If Ondiin's tail is magnetic too, their clothes *should* be interchangeable.

Quick question to people who own a Petit Gem with horns. Do the horns sit in holes or do they fasen to the head in a different way? I’m looking at getting Miepy since I can’t find a Rudy or Leepy.
