Soom Petit Gem Discussion - Part 1

THE MARCH CALENDER JUST UPDATED AND THERE'S A RERELEASE OF PA-AN COMING AAAAAAAA.
That's one of the ones I really wanted!

 

The pied piper Pa-an is so very cute like all these little ones. I had planned to wait for a Rudy or Leepy for my first Petit Gem but Pa-an stomped all over my plans with her tiny little hooves.

 

Shes super cute! I ordered the outfit I'm a bit surprised they realized -now- that she's a goat and needs hooves, haha...

 

ahhhh i wish they had the horns available in peony white like the first release of pa-an. would have nabbed one in a heartbeat if that was the case. :'']

 

I somehow didn't notice that this release had hooves now, that's awesome. I just ended up sculpting hooves onto mine. These ones are really cute, I hope they put them on Rudy from now on cuz I still want.

 

I can't believe they've already thrown down another petite gem rerelease. Thankfully not one of the ones I really wanted as I have no money currently, but that feels so quick lol
The resin choices and theme are super cute though.

 

Reviving this thread with some picspam! Pearl after surviving her 4 foot fall on concrete. Horns and ears scattered everywhere, I just about had a heart attack. A little cleaning and she's fine

Have you already seen the new super cute little tiger? I absolutely fell in love with their make-up

 

The make up is cute but... very, very expensive :X I really want to get one in white and one in mango, but my bank accound says no x.x

 

I’ll have to pass this time, just not enough money. Still, very cute, and I love the mango resin.

I'm very seriously considering getting one in white, and doing a super artistic pattern on him... They're just SO cute!

 

Does anyone have any suggestions about the best way to attach all the magnets in these little cuties? I have several of them that are waiting for me to get this done but I messed up badly the first and only time I tried (and it was with a larger doll). I have rheumatoid arthritis, so it’s somewhat difficult to grip things at times. A big issue is getting the in correctly so the magnets attract like they should.

 

Keep all magnets together, like in a line. Then a tiny drop of super glue or glue of your choice in the hole (or just get a bit at the tip of the glue bottle, and put/smear it in the hole, because even a full real drop can be too much), and then just push the first magnet on your line into the hole - and move the line sideways, so the magnet stays in the hole, but istn't attached to the rest anymore. Hope that makes sense?
Thats way easier than trying to push a single manget on its own into its place.

For the other side (like ears), just turn the line of magnets around.

 

I always mark the magnets with red permanent marker. I place them in without glue first, to check how they should be placed. Then I mark the visible part so I know to put glue on the unmarked side.
I hold tiny magnets with a metal tool usually, like a tiny metal spatula for dentistry or sculpting. That way it won't flip over in your fingers or just before it goes in the hole.
Then I either let the tool and magnet sit there while the glue dries, or carefully slide the tool away from the magnet once it's in. This only works with magnets that fit snugly into a hole.

Gotta be careful with the permanent marker though, it can stain your fingers and if you touch resin it could then stain that. So I try to handle the magnets as little as possible and just use tools. Also to not get glue on me.

I already have a name for my Ranho which will be Riyah.
I am still eyeing 3 other gems, so I am having my fingers crossed!

I myself have quite a few Sooms. I’ve always loved the company’s art and have fallen in love with their tinies/pets. I have an Ondiin named Bubblegum and just acquired a Varo who doesn’t have a name yet. XD I’m still debating whether the size fits into my collection but they are super cute! I will have to post photos later, I didn’t realise I didn’t have any of them. XD

Does anyone know if Soom would release more petit gems this year? Or is it a surprise every month?

 

They seem to traditionally do at least a release or two every year, but you never know what it'll be, or when! I keep an eye on their socials and the calendar on the website (here: Doll of the Month - The Gem).

Does anyone know if Soom has a certain order they go in when it comes to releases/re-releases? I would love an Ondiin someday so I’d like to know what the wait time would be looking like for them to open up orders for them again. Or is it just random?

 

Its not really consistent how they release dolls, unfortunately. It feels really random.

 

Ah, that’s a shame, but I guess it gives me time to save up indefinitely!

 

Soom does pat attention to requests. You should ask on Soom's Q&A board. You will get a vague response but they will count your request.

It feels for me as very random. But I am checking every month if they have a release.

 

Just purchased a pink Ondiin, in virtually new condition and I’m over the moon!! She’s one of my grails and I feel so lucky to have found a kind soul willing to sell her!

I’d love to buy some eyes for her in the meantime; does Ondiin accommodate 12mm eyes very well? Or should I play it safe with 10mm eyes?

 

my little pink Ondiin is here! I could not be happier with her. I'm still thinking on which eyes suit her best, so she'll have to be blind for a bit, haha.

I do hope to get her a faceup eventually, but I surprisingly also love the blank doll look for these petite gems. (:

 

I prefer 10mm often but 12mm can fit as well. I always do them bit crossed eyed so that you can still see the white of the eyeball

 

Photo of my Pa-an. She is super cute. Her face is very sweet and her tail is adorable. Have had some issues with getting the magnets to stay in place but I think that’s mostly user error and bad glue.

Might have to restring her, she seems a little loose.

Hoping for a Rudy rerelease later this year so she can have a friend.

I really like silent night Rudy. When I saw her being released on soom, I really liked her, but I did not have that much knowledge about Soom yet, so after being very indecisive it was to late to order her anyway. So I am really happy that I found someone that wanted to sell her to me years after. I am going to have so much fun making pictures of her. I will probably redo her body blush in the summer since it has chipped here and there.

 

Has anyone seen the new Rudy? Any opinions about the Midnight Duke spirit - Rudy?
I do like the romantic head and the rose pink color. I think it is a bit hard to see on the pictures what it is wearing though because of the blend in of many dark and red colors in the background.

 

I really liked the black hair piece! It just looked so cute. Soom has seemed to be going towards really limited runs or one offs lately. They haven’t come out with a new sculpt in quite awhile. I was hoping for a new petite gem. My crew are packed away for a move right now.

 

I agree with you. I like the hairpiece too. Find it to bad that the first petit gem that they put on for sale again after at least 1 year is a LE. I honestly would love to see more rato or new sculpts as well. I hope they will show us another petit this year.

 

I love Ranho mango resin color. Making pictures of her in a summery scenery really makes my day.
Can't wait to have her out again to make more pictures once everything starts to bloom.

These are lovely, @xXMikuruXx ! Vivid and naturally posed. You capture a nice, adventurous spirit with all of them, using the scale of the terrain versus the Petits to your advantage.

*waves* So I don't own one of these cuties, but the temptation is there and its HUGE! I have a question for you all... How well do they stand without the magnetic plate/stand thing? Can they stand without it on those cute tiny feet? or is it near impossible? I doubt it would be a deal breaker, just wanted to know before I buy ^^

... not impossible, but really not easy either. Their feet are tiny and their heads are heavy If you're looking for a stand (beside the metal plate) OB11 stands should work just fine with them, they're the same size.

 

It is quite hard to let them stand on their own feet. The 2 that can stand the best on their own feet would be Ranho and Ondiin. But only because they have their tail to hold balance. For pictures in nature I try to balance them with the ground. But sometimes I do need the plates under their feet and cover it with grass and other green so that it still has the illusion that they stand on their own feet.
