Soom Petit Gem Discussion - Part 1

Just ordered a Julie! I've been waiting for her rerelease.

 

I haven’t seen a poodle BJD before and my fursona is a poodle so I had to get Julie! Super excited, she will be my first Soom doll!

 

These are the ones I picked. Played a bit around in photoshop yesterday and made a file to mix and match the parts

It's too bad that Julie face come with poodle hair on top, I would have prefered the option of horns, even if it means modding the head for magnet.

 

Darn it @meanae ! I only wanted one, but after seeing your plans I did a couple sketches of my own, and now I want two!

I want a Rudy so bad, but I don't want a white one. I have a white Minel and she almost never comes out of her box because I'm afraid of staining or yellowing her. Hopefully they wil re-release Rudy in brown or grey one day.

 

You could just dye her? Dyeing a Petitgem is super easy and removable if you don't like it.

 

The truth of yellowing is this: She's going to yellow whether or not you take her out and enjoy her. My spare parts on my TGs that have lived in boxes are the same color as the dolls that have lived on my shelves. Just enjoy her!

As for me, I've been lurking here for a bit because I'm sorely tempted to get an Ondiin... I've looked at that sculpt each time it's come out and come this close each time to placing the order. This time I might actually finally cave.

I kinda want a jackalope with Meipy head but I am worried about the ear placement. Does anyone have multiple Petit Gem dolls? I am curious if all the ear magnets are in the same spot for different dolls. I suspect they probably are, but would be nice to know for sure :/

 

Does anyone have both Rudy and Ondiin? Their horns/antlers look the same in the site pictures, but I can't tell for sure.

 

part of me REALLY wants to grab a meipy with ondiin parts but gosh i really shouldnt be buying any dolls right now...
maybe someday they will do this again... or maybe i'll end up with enough petit gems to do it myself haha

@AutumnWyvern they're exactly the same. I had a Rudy and still have an Ondiin and don't really know why they're listing them separately.

I'm assuming the difference is that Ondiin horns are clear resin and Rudy's are solid?

 

I'm afraid not. It says at the bottom in fine print "The horn, and wing parts are provided in the same color(Peony White) as the doll" which honestly is kind of a shame. I guess they just included both so no one was confused? But they could have listed them as "Ondiin/Rudy horns."

 

I have a conversation open with Soom in the Q&A so I've just asked them about the difference between Rudy and Ondiin's horns.
My original question was if I could order an additional pair of horns for my second hand Ondiin at home (she's hornless) and of course they said no I also asked for a better image or description of Meipy's tail because, let's be honest, the promo picture is rubbish. Is it a bear tail? A mini bee abdomen? A beehive? The three make sense. They just answered by posting the same promo picture, the one already on the website, and no word description.
I must admit they are soooo not very helpful. I'm a bit mad, really. I hope the answer on Rudy/Ondiin horns will be better. I will let you know.

 

It's a bee stinger! Because Meipy is a Honeybee Bear hybrid! You can see it a little better here, thanks to tumblr user mikiyochii. There's an old sales photo from mercari here that shows the tail by itself, too.

Soom really SHOULD have retaken photos of all the optional parts for this sale. Very lazy, if you ask me.

The wings are cuter than I thought

 

A jackalope is so tempting but I think I wanna get a Leepy with Julie's tail and make a poodle-bunny.

I'm probably gonna get both heads though so maybe I can make a jackalope with a different body, since I have extra antlers from other dolls.

 

I’ve been tempted to add an Ondiin with Meipy horns, Rudy’s tail and no wings to my Julie order. I asked Soom and they gave me detailed instructions to do this. Just, I really don’t need another doll, but a custom Ondiin.... Guess if I’m unsure, I should just go with Julie, which is a dream come true and be happy. So thankful Soom has done this release.

 

So, Soom answered me and they confirmed that Ondiin and Rudy's horns are identical. And they also said "please select the same horn as the doll when ordering them" so I suppose if we want an Ondiin head with Ondiin horns, it's better to select Ondiin's horns than Rudy's. Maybe the magnet system plays a role...?

 

No it doesn't as the you'll have to glue in the magnets yourself. And as they're the same, the magnet holes are also the same, so it really doesn't make any sense why they didn't out it like 'Rudy/Ondiin horns'

 

maybe it’s because Ondiins horns are transparent while Rudy’s are opaque? That’s the only reason I can think of.

 

Already been disproven on the last page; the fine print for the event says that all parts, including horns and wings, are Peony White.

 

Matching the horns to the head also makes no sense since they are the same!

Having to glue the magnets in will be convenient for the rabbit I'm planning since I want to dye her blue. It'll be the first time I've ever dyed a doll. Now I just need to decide on the exact combination for the other one...

 

Okay, I did it, I ordered an Ondiin! I'm going to make a tiny little cat dragon.

 

I pulled the trigger and ordered Meipy! I had been so bummed about missing Meipy the first time around since there were no re-releases and secondhand was impossible it seemed...
I picked the Leepy tail though, so it can be a floofy bumblebee behind.

 

I ordered two on Sunday! Ondiin with Meipy's head and no wings, and Leepy with the dreaming Ondiin head and Meipy's horns. They'll be my first anthros other than a Puki Pukisha. Does anyone know if glass eyes in 10mm or 12mm are a better fit for Meipy?

 

I decided to add a Meipy to my order too and make it a layaway since dyeing it will be easy, I really wanted a yellow one. Ordered with Leepy's tail since it works better for the bear bee I want.

 

Personally I use 10mm for my Chessys and Ondiin and it works like a charm! The 12mm I have fit too but I don't like the look it gives them. I suppose it also depends on the kind and brand of eyes.

I throught caution out of the window and bought a Meipy with Leepy's ears and tail, and Rudy's horns to do a jackalope. I wanted one since forever! And bought an Ondiin with Meipy's ears (tiny but so cute!), Rudy's tail and Meipy's wings. I can't wait!! And this is so exciting to see what everyone has ordered! Soom should do Free Choice event once per year and per size, but I suppose it's constraining with the casting.
Meipy seems to be particularly popular!

 

I discovered Silent Night Rudy just after the order period and have been coveting them ever since. But didn't order a white one in the recent "event". I've got to find a tan or grey one. Would LOVE to see pix of any and all Grey Rudys with your own faceups/body blushing!!! THX!

 

@Peggytoes hey! I have a Rudy from the Silent Night release in Gray c: I got mine second hand and was so thrilled to get her since she is a little grail for me I have a pic of her here with company faceup and body blushing by me

I put in an order for a Meipy head with Ondiin ears and tbh idr what tail, I think leepy.
Looking forward to making a cute little animal creature out of it.

I wish Pa'an had been available.
It was also tough to choose between Rudy and Meipy.

 

I think because Pa'an was already sold in white, maybe next petit free choice will have him in a different color like brown or something, he would look good brown I think.

I would probably get him again in any color really, my Thor needs goats!

 

Hi all, I'm having a problem with my Rudy. I haven't been able to use her antlers for a couple of years now. One day the magnets for the head popped out and I haven't been able to get them back in. They don't fit anymore. There is some superglue residue in the hole, however I'm not sure how to get it out without likely damaging her current face-up. Would getting smaller magnets work? Or do I need to clean out the holes? I just want to be able to use her antlers again.

 

If the smaller magnets are also rare earth magnets, so the same strength, I think it should probably work!
It could be a relatively easy fix if you roll up a bit of sandpaper and try to get the superglue out, but I don't blame you for worrying about the faceup!
Rudy's horns aren't super big or heavy so I think smaller magnets on one side will work!

 

Freeze the head and using something tiny carefully chip the residue out. Freezing will make the glue brittle but not damage the faceup. However it might also get the other head magnets to come out so be prepared for that.

 

So I'm working on collecting petit gems and I forgot to order eyes. Sounds like I need to get more 10mms probably? Anyone know if Soom would let me add more to the order? I did layaway... I just got Rudy and Julie. I have Pa-an currently

 

I just contacted them yesterday and they answered right back within 12 hours. I wouldn't see why they wouldn't allow you to add eyes to your layaway.


Also here's their reply this morning concerning more PG's coming:
"We're sorry to say that our dolls are sold only for a certain period of time without having stock or providing a personal order.
And the Petite Gem is expected to be released around this summer, but other details have not been decided yet.
Also please kindly note the release plan with details may be changed due to our internal situations."

So HOPEFULLY there will be another one!!!

She is Gorgeous!!! Just love her!!! She's the one I want most. I want to start designing clothing patterns for them but I've got to have one first! Fingers crossed Soom will go ahead with that planned Summer PG like they mentioned to me this morning!!!

Does anyone have two Petite Gems ... one with 12mm eyes and one with 10mm eyes that they would be so kind as to post a photo so we can see the difference?

In my opinion 12mm is too big. People say that mako 12mm eyes run a bit smaller than other brands, but this was the only position I could get them in. 10mm or 8mm work better imo. Although please forgive how wonky her eyes are positioned.

 

THANKS SO MUCH TAIXONAY!!! So from what I am seeing - it depends on the brand of eye as well. I guess I should focus on FINDING a Petite Gem first!!! . I think I like your 8mm ones the best.

Okay LAST question ... the 12 and 10mm measurement is for the entire width of the eye (not just the iris) right?

Couldn’t pass up on Rato and ordered one in peony white, blank, with surprise head and cheese part. Still waiting for my Julie.

 

Wow, does Rato have big ears! I'm still waiting on my FCE duo, but would love to see owner photos of the new one!

Dying to get a petite gem but not so thrilled with my first option. So sad .. just not fond of the huge ears ... otherwise Id buy him.

 

At first I was like, no. Then I went and looked at his sales page and saw the surprise face and I really liked it. The ears don’t bother me enough to not get him. I also have a feeling that Rato will be very rare as I don’t see much interest in him.

 

The eyewells can fit 8-10mm, 12mm is too big go to the back of the eyewells correctly. They can fit cross eyed and in one position only with gapping.
Soom Petit Gem eyes are 10mm with a large size iris (6mm).

 

I passed on Rato, but I cant wait to see owner pics!!

 

The surprise head is pretty cute in white, and I could use the tail for another tiny I have, but I'll still have to pass on him too.

I'm short on money anyway after bills and getting two of the free choice ones.

 

Like the white better but money is too hard to come by ... not getting him. Those huge ears remind me of megaphones. sooo sad

 

I ended up ordering the smokey gray Rato but requested the city mouse face up with it instead.
I wanted to come in here and ask if anyone with a petit gem would let me know what the diameter of their wrists and the fat part of their lower leg is (just under the knee)? Soom doesn't mention those measurements and I'm working on sewing an outfit for my Rato before he arrives.

 

Diameter of the wrist joint is 0.8cm. The lower legs thickest part isn't under the knee though, but more in the middle. Circ. directly under the knee is 3.2cm, thickest part is 3.6cm

 

God they're so tiny... I can't get over how small this pattern is.

I'm hoping to make mine clothes based on the patterns I use for my Puki Pukis. I'll wait until I get them to start though. I'm impressed people can make anything but gathered skirts from measurements. You must be better at pattern drafting and math than I am!

 

I finished bodyblush for my 2 dolls, and faceup for Rudy Super proud!
