Soom Petit Gem Discussion - Part 1

Both my Leepy and Ondiin from the last order arrvied The pink is,again, very, very pale, while the blue is absolutely gorgeous grey-blue. I've dyed both of them - ONdiin got a nice gradient, whil Leepy got an overal more coral color.

 

I’m so ready for this new character! I’m so excited to see what animal chessy is! I can’t wait for the 17th of December! It’ll be my first petit gem as well! I keep checking the second hand market for them, my favorite being the silent night gray Rudy! Someday I’ll get him

 

Ooooh, they turned out great! It's awesome how a little dye bath can make them just that little bit more special.

According to Soom Christmas Online Event notice, Chessy is a Petit version of Cheshire in Peony White / Light Violet!!! I'm screaming so much internally right now!

 

Did it show what Chessy looked like? 0.o

Oh ya, duh, i just went to their site and saw the announcement. I thought it was an email or something Haibanne was talking about. The anticipation is killing me... i cant wait to pre-order her!!

 

I’m waiting with great anticipation to see what Chessy looks like!

 

Do you think they will keep the same, soft, cute look? or will they give her a wide smile like how the Chesire Cat is usually seen with?

 

@So.Spice well, I’m hoping for the wide Cheshire grin with teeth, but that is a slim possibility. I think it will most likely be the softer, cuter look as that would appeal to more buyers. Either way, I’m very interested!

@So.Spice nice! I have two Petite Gems, a Leepy and a Roral. I have always wanted SOOM to make a cat, as Ondiin isn’t one, but close.

 

@kurogane ya! she is like a little bat cat c: cute, but i would also like just a cat cats are cute enough as it is! Lucky you have Leepy and Roral, i only just found out about these cuties after the last Fosy pre-order ended. I almost got my hands on a Gray Pa-an... but :T well, it was a bad experience. I am keeping my eyes on the second hand market though

 

We can dream about having 2 heads, one with the grin, another with a softer smile XD

Does anybody happen to have a picture of Soom Light Violet (not to be mistaken with the Pale Violet)...? I think it was released only on Roral, for Petit Gem. It seems that it's lighter than Roral promotional picture let us believe but I would like to be sure and I find contradicting information...

 

I had a Leepy in their pale violet, and that way... SUPER pale. I was really disappointed (dyed that leepy in the end darker, but sold him by now). So yeah, I'm curious how light violet looks in real life too.

Even back then I was disappointed by how much of a difference in colour that is; nowadays Arkose is still a bright and proper shade of purple while Silky has just always been... kind of pale, yes.

Nevertheless, I am still very much a sucker for Soom and looking forward to little Chessy!

 

After an announcement, when do they post the pre-order listing before they go live? For the current Pyrol and Minette - Moonlight Melody, i saw it go up a few days before the pre-order went live. is that right?

My Ondiin is here!

I went ahead and bought high dome eyes even though @meanae recommended against them - I'm glad I did because they fit perfectly! I had absolutely no issues getting my 10mm Dolcebella high domes into Ondiin's faceplate.

I’m in so much trouble with the soom event. Ive always loved the Little Gem Cheshire and can’t wait to see what a Petit Gem version looks like. I’m thinking a slightly bigger version of Imda Cutie:P Gato.

I have some news about Chessy: I asked Soom and they told me that there will be only 1 head for Chessy... I was really hoping for 2
And the release is the 17th, not at Christmas (I was a bit confused by the event, it wasn't clear for me)

@Haibanne thats interesting. I may have the unpopular opinion here... but I'm hoping she doesnt have the cheshire smile. I'm just not sure how it would look on a petit gem and I tend to like expressions on dolls that are more neutral or sad. I'm not turned off by dolls with smile expressions, but I'm not a fan of the typical cheshire smile. Guess we will have to wait and see though!

 

@So.Spice Honestly I have no idea what kind of expression I would prefer, I just know that 2 heads are better than one!

I'm planning to hopefully get my Ondiin and Leepy from the post office tomorrow. Then I'll have four petit gems! I can't believe it. It's only been a year since I got Rudy, my first one. I'm in love

 

After admiring these tiny adorable creatures I was finally able to buy a Rudy from the Silent Night release, I just can't wait for her to arrive! It's going to be my first and I have a feeling it will be the beginning of a new army~
I'm also excited to see who's the new cutie!

 

@Pselia congrats! I keep trying the second hand market but they are already gone before I can get them. I'm jealous but at the same time happy for you c: I also plan to have a tiny army of petit gems as well >:3 mwahahaha

I got my pink petit gem in! Here they are with my cocoriang tobi dolls ~

 

My ondiin came in but the only glue I could find was some e6000 with the lid glued on (and some stuff for plastic model kits/3D prints)
I’m probably gonna get more e6000 at work tomorrow but does anyone have any other suggestions for magnet glueing?

 

I use regular super glue, also known as cyanoacrylate. It works really well and can be cleaned up with nail polish remover (acetone). I’ve use it for all my magnets and so far all have stayed in place.

wouldn't acetone damage the body blushing? totally not asking because my poor ondiin has some... technically clear but still noticeable to me spots... from where glue slipped... or anything like that...

I had a dream last night that Soom did a re-release of the silent night Rudy for Christmas... and I couldnt decide if I wanted Rudy or Chessy... :c anyone else have bjd dreams like that?? haha c:

 

Yes! Acetone would remove any blushing. Glueing in the magnets can get messy if you use too much glue, so be extra careful with blushed parts as there is no way to remove the glue and not the blushing too. All of my Petite Gems are blank, so I didn’t consider that. So far SOOM is the only company I’ve bought from that doesn’t glue in the magnets. I understand why, it’s such a chore.

 

I did once as well! It was a long time a go so I can't remember what about. Wish I could dream more about bjds than having weird as heck ones where nothing makes sense

 

Is there a secret to putting in ondiin's head magnets? all the others fit like a glove so I feel like I must be missing... something

 

I’m glad you asked this, because it’s related to something else I have experienced, but let me answer your question. There are at least three different sizes of magnets. Do you have the right size ready to go in?

If you have the right size, I wonder if there’s been some warping. I have two Ondiin (both from preorders this year) and the head magnets were pretty snug but the faceplate of my blue Ondiin fits very low on the head and honestly looks very strange. Again, wondering if there’s some warping at play.

Has anyone else had blue Ondiin faceplates that didn’t fit properly? Actually my Pa-an’s faceplate and head also have problems.

 

I do have three sizes of magnets, the largest size one only fits in the wings from what I can tell, and then two that are the same wide but different heights. The smallest ones seem to fit in the holes meant for the horns (of the one i managed to fit, the other wont go in at all) and I managed to pop one of the smaller ones into the back holes meant for the ears but it seems a smidge too small, but I can't get it out (its not glued i was trying to test the size) but i cant get any size to fit into the other hole for that one either so I'm at a loss! I will say my ondiin is baby pink from the goodbye summer release, and on the regular faceplate/head.
I feel my description is a little off so I took some pictures, its nighttime here so the lighting isn't the best but you get the idea

i just realized you can see the floor in those pics I took I promise is not as scary as it looks that is just the place in my room where the lighting is the best I did all the positioning over my dresser-table and turned more into the light for the pic.

 

Oh! How frustrating! There are two things you can try to get the magnet in.

1. Place the magnet in your freezer: the cold will “shrink” it a bit.
2. Or you can heat the head gently to expand the hole. (Heating pad or hot water bottle.)

For the magnet that’s stuck, turn the head upside and place the magnet against an ice cube that you’ve placed inside a plastic bag (to avoid getting the magnet or the head wet).

 

As for magnets not fitting, a couple years ago I got a Leepy and the magnets would not fit in the feet. It happened to be a company defect and SOOM acknowledged it. To this day my Leepy only has one magnet in her foot as I don’t want to mod the other foot and damage it as it is so small. I chose not to mail her back to SOOM to get the magnets in. So, yes, sometimes the holes come out too small and getting them fixed is a hassle.

What a disappointment, I do feel for you @AutumnWyvern! I hope you can get the magnets in!

 

I had about 5 holes too small for the magnets on this batch of Leepy and Ondiin (I really, really tried) that required me to take an exacto knife to them to widen them. Two shaves around and the magnets fit.

 

I think getting the magnets cold Almost worked, I didn’t have much time to try before the magnets got warm again (I blame Florida) but I’ll give it another go before contacting soom
And if it comes down to it I do have multiple xactos and even sand paper bits.... but hopefully that won’t be necessary

Ordered a Chessy in Violet! I'm super excited, been wanting a petit gem for awhile, I love the violet color and something about her face is just super cute to me
