Soom Mecha Angel Saiph Discussion

Apr 15, 2008

    1. Hi, @vonbonbon ! ^___^
      How have you been?

Hm...well, my Saiph is waiting for a new faceup so that she better matches the :: gasp :: MA Meisa that I now have. Seriously, I have to pinch myself every time I say such things. I have a MA Saiph and a MA Meisa. :: passes out with happiness :: Hehe.

I've realized that I actually have a small addiction the the MA girls. Whoops. Even the old body. Every time I see one for sale I have to give myself a pep talk not to buy them all. I'm starting to have a crazy dream to have one of each. THAT'S TOO CRAZY of a dream! Hahaha.........

    2. Hi Lady R!!! How the hell are you? I'm doing fine, still playing with dolls although didn't have much time over the last year or so.

Hee hee, you were always partial to a Soom I think, I remember your Amber... although you were also very fond of Iplehouse too, I seem to remember ;) I'm still a dyed in the wool Dollstown fan BUT Saiph and Sabik remain all time favourite heads. They were (and still are!) such popular sculpts I have no idea why they discontinued them. I can't wait to see how your Saiph turns out. I suppose she already has lots of amazing handmade outfits and is spoilt rotten ;)

    3. Oh my gosh... :: hides in shame :: I haven't made ANY clothes for either of my MA girls. T.T
I've been dealing with a shoulder injury...for like...a year now...so I haven't sewn really...ugh. Excuses, excuses. Heh. So, yes I can relate to the not much with dolls time recently.

Ah yes, hehe, I'm not sure I could imagine your collection without Dollstown. ^_~
The girl in your avatar is just lovely, by the way. <3

Hehe, I feel a bit like I'm stuck in a time loop circa 2008 with Soom. XD
I swear my wishlist is reverting back to my original wish list from when I started in the hobby. Heh.

You know...I wonder if the Saiph you saw was actually purchased by someone from our local group. Hmm...
It is sad that the whole MA line went away. I bet they'd get orders if they did a limited run of them again.

    4. I know, I will have to see her here soon or on Flickr and SOB! Oh well, it would have been a real stretch at the moment and I would have wound up selling one of my two big DT girls to finance it... so I am happy to keep them both. I shouldn't be looking at any purchase right now as freelancing has gone quiet again suddenly.

I am SHOCKED that you haven't been making clothes... but the shoulder sounds painful, I can totally relate. Don't push yourself, you will be back at the sewing machine soon enough and then Saiph will get a whole new wardrobe in no time ;) I know what you mean about your BJD Wishlist being stuck in a time warp as well. I was ill the other week and took a stroll through all my saved favourites on Flickr and remembered all the gorgeous dolls I never got a chance to have.... it rekindles the love. I see brand new sculpts and get curious to see them in real life but there isn't the same draw for me right now. I suppose all hobbies go through ups and downs.

    5. Lovely to see some posts here. So sorry you had to sell your MA Saiph. I know what you mean...the SG version is cute but just doesn't have the same expression at all.

I love the height of the MA body but it is one thing that means that my girl tends to not get many photos...she simply doesn't have many clothes to wear. I sew a lot for my Iplehouse dolls but they can't share. Its not that I dislike the MA body but I only have one so its an investment of lots of time to create patterns and an outfit just for her...poor girl. She really is worth it!

I hope you manage to find another! :)

    6. Thanks, LyanneNZ :) I do find the different height and body proportions the most frustrating aspect of this hobby, to be honest (someone would think real life human bodies all came in a one size fits all size range, tee hee!). Making clothes for such a large body definitely takes more time (and fabric!) but I am sure your MA girl will be worth the effort when you get the time ;)

    7. Oh man, how did I not respond to this? :abambi:

Yeah, the shoulder is starting to get better slowly. Hehe. Thanks. It's just being stubborn. Boo...
But I think I'm just going to have to sew one way or another! I've got these ideas that need to get out of my head already. ;)
Hehe, but at least now I have 2 mecha angel girls, so whatever I make they can share! Mwa haha! 'Cause yeah, it's true. They are just their own size and it's hard to find them things from anyone else in my collection. Guess that just means I'll have to do my best to spoil them specifically.

    8. Raquel: Hee hee, I wish I had actually gotten round to actually making even half the outfits I have dreamed up for my dolls while sat on the train/bus/taxi.... I never seem to have time to get the sewing machine out anymore though.... and the old desk I use it on is so wobbly I need to do some DIY to reinforce it before I actually put the sewing machine back on it. That's the real issue, I need to do some DIY before I can get sewing and I am NEVER in the mood for DIY!

When I had my Saiph MA I sketched about 5 different looks I was going to make for her, I have so many drawers full of fabric, but I wound up having to sell her before I made single thing. I'm so glad that my DT18 girl came with a couple of outfits or she would still be bare Nekkid too!

    9. Hehe, it's so true! I have sketches of outfits all over the place! But I moved my sewing machine to a little desk (which was a project in and of itself and took forever for me to do) and then immediately covered said desk in random stuff um...from the DoA triathlon...um, last year. And I still haven't unearthed it again yet! :horror:

    10. That all sounds so wearily familiar.... I think we have the same sewing desk! ;)

    11. Made an effort and took some new photos of Saiph :) I'm tempted to swap her head over to another body just so that I can photograph her more.

    12. So pretty! :D

    13. She's lovely LyanneNZ :)

    14. OMG, guys. Remember how we were just saying how hard it is to find clothes for the MA girl body...

      Look at 'em. :...(:aheartbea
They look so good! I'm so happy. :: insert ugly, happy tears here ::

It's all Iplehouse SID-man clothing!!!! It fits so, so good. The pants are all capri length, but I care not at all.

    15. That does indeed look great!

Ah yes, I remember trying a friend's SID men's leather jacket on my Saiph and it fitted.

Your girl looks so stylish! Love her outfit !

    16. Hehe, yeah I'm a bit late to the party. I was guessing it had probably been tried before, but I was still just so, so excited that it fit so well. :celebrate

And since I had these two outfits already, it was going from poor naked doll to instant full set! The blue and red outfit is from Freedom Teller and is one of my favorite outfits that I own, so I'm really happy that she can steal it and wear it because it's just the style I wanted for my Meisa. Very happy bonus. Hehe.

And....now I'm tempted to buy more fabulous SID guy outfits for these two...:chomp:
(I can't tell if my expected happiness for potential tuxes outweighs my weeping wallet...hm...)

And goodness...I need names for these two! My Saiph used to have a name, but I'm going to change her character now that I have Meisa too, so they've just defaulted back to "Saiph" and "Meisa". :doh

    17. I have finally found a Saiph Head in NS... now I am on the hunt for a DT 18yers body... But As I am a perfect beginner in hybrid, what is the DT skin color that fit SOOM NS ? :/

This girl is soooo much gorgeous in her MA mold than in the SG... I have wait for her alsmot 5 years :')

    18. Oooh!! Congratulations! I am so happy for you. I’m still on my quest, but your success gives me hope...

    20. Congrats! She's so lovely, even blank. :chocoheart

    21. Congratulations...oooh the possibilities of a blank resin face and especially a sculpt as beautiful as Saiph. I would love to paint mine just to see what other ways she could look :)

      • x 1
    22. Hehe, that's exactly why I didn't hesitate to get my second Saiph when I saw her for sale! :3nodding:
There are just so many ways I wanted to paint this sculpt.

      • x 1
    23. Congrats Luchan! You are giving those of us who remain Saiph-less hope again ;) I saw an MA complete come up on the MP here just after Christmas - but had no funds and she was gone in the blink of an eye. I'm not sure about the colour match with Dollstown, as Dollshe kind of changed their colours a bit in the last year or so. I would have thought Freshskin would be close. Probably easiest to blush the head to match the body. Good Luck :) Must be frustrating to finally have the head of your dreams but no body!

    24. My NS Saiph laid claim to a new outfit and she is looking SO GOOD in it. <3
I'm so happy. :: tears :: I feel like she finally just came together when I put this outfit on her. Haha, now she needs a name...
      How's everyone doing? ^__^

    25. Lady Ravenswood: She is stunning! :D I love her elegant look.

    26. @Cat ^..^ Thank you!! She stole it right out from under another doll and I'm not even mad because she looks so good in it.

    27. Lady Ravenswood: I love how they do that! And the next thing you know she will take all of that doll's jewelry and that doll will get kicked out of the house.......

      :lol::lol::lol:

      • x 1
    28. Hahahahahaha, that so happens. :XD:
It's like everyone only wants the one necklace (or ring...or whatever). Ah, but no one is getting kicked out of the house today, so all is well. ;)

    29. Has everyone seen Soom's latest little girl? She is reminiscent of Saiph and Topaz.

      the SOOM emporium

    30. Ooh, yeah. She reminds me of Topaz too! I like her feet.
I know I thought of Saiph's lips when I saw their last Idealian, Isabel.
They are really bringing the full lips to their recent releases. :chocoheart

    31. The trouble with the new stuff that I have is: I am just too in love with the old stuff. Saiph is just one of my favorites.

      • x 2
    32. I'm with you, my heart is stuck in like 2008 with Soom. I still really want a Deneb. :sweat

    33. I have multiples of my favorites from 2008. Keep watching the marketplace and never say Never. They do pop up.:eusa_pray

      • x 3
    34. She's gorgeous! MA Saiph is my grail-- and I could look at pretty Saiph
Like yours all day! Hope I get one too someday.

    35. Love the outfit on her @Lady Ravenswood I can just well imagine how happy it would make you feel to get her all perfectly dressed up. She's such an impressive looking girl.

    36. @Cat ^..^ I totally agree. New SOOM's just don't compare to their old ones. I *may* be guilty of having multiples of the same sculpt; I can't help it.

Saiph is one of my favourite sculpts, here is my girl. But she also makes a really handsome boy.
I really wish they would bring back Mecha Angels :(

    37. Ahh, thank you so much, @Chikku
I hope you can find your Saiph!
Cat ^..^ is right, they do pop up if you stalk them long enough. Hang in there!

Thank you @LyanneNZ I am stupid happy with this turn of events. Hehe. She's also wearing some gorgeous eyes that I'd wanted forever but didn't know who they should be for, and a wig that got bumped off another doll when character plans changed. So it really was just everything coming together for her suddenly. :D

I think she's going to end up named Merlin. My Meisa is named Prospero, so I'm just going to run with the wizard theme. Makes me want to give her a gold handled walking cane in lieu of a staff. Hmm, have to see what I can scrounge up for that project.

@Arekushia you are not alone in wishing for a return of the MA line, I talk with other friends about it often. I feel like the line wouldn't be so intimidating in the current hobby line-up. Bigger dolls are much more common. I wonder if they would sell better? Or if people would see them as too dated now?
Ooh, I have a quick question if you don't mind: It looks like your Saiph also has the default faceup. My Saiph has pearlescent on her lips and I was wondering if that is default from Soom or something a previous owner did over the default faceup. Just been curious about that.
I like your Saiph's hat! I have such a weakness for dolls in hats, hehe. :)

      • x 2
    38. @Lady Ravenswood Yes it is default from SOOM, I will check and let you know about her lips :) also her hat is from BJD Outfitters.

      • x 2
    39. Oh, my, she is so, so gorgeous and perfect. The whole look, her face, and your photo--superb.

    40. Aw, thank you so much @Dizzy*Mizz*Lizzy
I've been wanting to take some nice photos of my Mechas for a while now and getting this outfit got me going! Two down and one to go. ^__^

    41. All us Saiph and Mecha Angel lovers should make ourselves a collective coffee table book :-) This photo could well be the cover!

    42. Oh goodness, that's very kind of you to say @Dizzy*Mizz*Lizzy
There are so many great photographers in this hobby, I'm no where near their level. I'm just having fun, hehe.
A coffee table book is a really fun idea for doll photos though! Hehe, it would be a great way to enjoy them. :)

    43. I comb all over, or at least I have in the past, for glimpses of Mecha Angel Saiph :) Its so hard to come by photos of her. I would have taken more photos by now if she had a wardrobe of clothes to wear...I have got as far as jeans so far. So its always lovely to see new photos of her pop up. She's so unique and beautiful.

    44. @LyanneNZ Hehe, glad to know I am not the only doll stalker.
I feel like it's rare to see a MA at all these days. :sorry

      • x 1
    45. Hey guys! I'm really kind of late to the party here as I didn't even realize there was an active MA girl thread at all. :doh This isn't about Saiph specifically, so I apologize! I'm just at a loss here and I figured maybe someone here could give me some advice.

I purchased a Deneb from Soom right after her release and sold the head on immediately. I just knew I wanted this amazing towering female figure, but there wasn't a face that spoke to me at the time, so I put her into storage. I figured I'd find an androgynous male sculpt I liked that would fit her body, but I didn't expect it to take...seven years.

Fast forward a few more years and now I'm in the position where I ultimately have a head I love, it's finally been airbrushed to match, and I have a much clearer idea of what I want to do with this doll, but so much time has elapsed! I have zero idea of what the best option for clothing is. I've read some Dollmore Model stuff is acceptable, as is some Iplehouse EID, but I almost feel like I may have better luck with some male clothing.

How do you impeccable outfitters find costumes for your girls? Do you take a gamble with measurements and order piece by piece, hoping an item won't be too far off? Do you buy male or female clothing? Does anyone sew for their MA? I've owned an MA for eleven years now but I'm still a total noob (please help)!

    46. Welcome @Sandwich the more the merrier, I think. Glad to have you.
And I can totally understand, I love the MA body SO MUCH!! I want to put all my doll heads on it too. Hehehe.

What head did you finally decide on? :D

As for your question, I have all my MA girls dressed in male clothing.
Iplehouse SID male clothing fits very well. Tops are basically perfect. The pants fit the waist and hips, but are short in length.
I also have one Saiph wearing clothing made for the Fifth Motif Timeless body (an odd size in itself). 5th Motif arms are longer than the MA women though and the pants STILL run short, but not as short as on the SID size.
My guess would be that the stretchy Rrabbit miracle pants would fit MAs only because they fit 5th Motif and run a little long on that body. I haven't actually tried them...

Anyway, I just love women in suits...so not sure about more feminine clothing options. :sweat

    47. @Lady Ravenswood thank you for the welcome! Your girls are so well-attired I was debating about whether to just message you directly or reply to this thread. :love

My MA hybrid is with a twigling/Artifex Kindred Eloy head. The proportions are very nice but the color match prior to airbrushing was atrocious (Dollshe fresh). I don't have a way to share photos right now or I would as I'm super stoked about her!

Also amazing info on the clothing, thanks a ton! I want to dress her more androgynous so this works out perfectly - time to go raid the Iplehouse website. I don't own many male dolls so I don't have much of a basis for comparison (and the ones I do have are mostly older and definitely not the pinnacle of fashion). I'll check into the 5th Motif stuff as well. You've given me some great points to delve into.

I figured leg length would probably be the biggest issue! MA girls are just miles of legs! Like her legs stop at the bust-level of my 60cm dolls, it's hilarious.

Now I'm gonna go check out some smashin' boy styles for my girl. :3nodding:

edit: What about shoes? Maybe I could find some semi-taller boots to disguise the pant leg issue she's bound to have...

      • x 1
    48. @Sandwich
Yes! Boots work wonders. All my MAs wear boots.
      SD17 size works great.
And glad I could help! I look forward to seeing her when you can share photos. That sounds like a really neat combo.
Haha, and I love the image of the legs to bust height. That's amazing. I have lots of tall dolls so I haven't even noticed that. Now I have to stand them next to other dolls. That's too funny.

    49. This is fabulous! I know it's six years later but I'm playing with my Mecha Saiph Tessie once again and am enjoying seeing everyone's pictures once again.

      • x 2
    50. Wow...is it really that long since Saiph first arrived here?! Glad you are enjoying your Tessie!

This is not too recent a photo but I don't think I have shared it before...my Mum made her infinity scarf.

    51. I got mine from DoA in 2009...eventually I had four of them, all different. And eventually I sold them all too. But not Tessie. Then I didn't play with her but I brought her to BJD club and everyone liked her a lot, so I decided to sell her. Brought her to the next meeting and I just couldn't do it... I felt almost nauseous to part with Tess. So we're back to playing again and very happy too. Your girl is soooo beautiful and that scarf is perfect on her. Love, love, love! Thank you for sharing and replying. Maybe this thread will wake up again, with all of us who have awakened to how gorgeous these dolls are and how they should never be ignored.

    52. @LyanneNZ
She looks great! I love the scarf and hat <3

      @jenthered
Glad to hear you and your girl are having fun again

I need to take more photos myself! Hehe. But I'm also trying to decide if I want to re-do the faceup on my WS Saiph...choices, choices...

    53. I love the way my Saiph looks, so she's it for now, as far as that. But she's dying for new clothes and has a singularly untalented too-busy mommy, so if anyone is making Saiph clothes, holler. We can pay immediately, LOL! I do have to get some photos loaded, so you can see how gorgeous Tessie is.

      • x 1
    54. @jenthered It sounds like you had a lucky escape when you changed your mind about parting with Tessie.

I'm coming to the end of some study so am really hoping that soon I will be back to dolls again at least in my evenings and weekends.

    55. Well yes, ma'am, it was...plus her tiny beau Yancy would have been heart-broken and that's not even the half of it. Sometimes, real life has to intrude, Lyanne NZ but I hope that you can get some dolly time. It's essential.

    56. Hi all!
      We are in your company!
      Do not drive away ???
This is Ruby ... We will be familiar! (:

    57. Wow @Bzika she is simply beautiful! Love her coat...so great to see her here :)

    58. LyanneNZ,
Oh! Thank you very much! :blush
She is special for me in her own way and she wants the best!
First of all, of course, a beautiful wardrobe!
The coat is also not so simple - it is the result of inspiration by the Gucci style! :D
In the future I plan for her a lot of doll versions of clothes from leading world brands!

Only one problem ... I don’t know where to find shoes matching her fashion style size ??? :|

    59. Yes, they need some fashionable shoes. I bought mine the molded high heeled feet but have not got around to painting them. I can't wait to see her wardrobe expand :) She is a wonderful fashion model!

    60. Here we are so far in the act of searching, because high-heeled shoes are very desirable for her!

I am lazy to please new things until the onset of autumn!
I have it relatively recently, and although its size is large and convenient for sewing, I have not yet got used to it, like sewing on a female figure, all the more brilliant with such delicious shapes (:
Moreover, I sew mainly on guys, not on girls!
But, I will try to master its format too! (:
