Soom Little Gem Monthly Mini Doll discussion (part 7)

I contemplated them last night but in the end...I just bought the outfit. The lack of articulation in the tail turned me off from buying the doll.

 

They can't sit at all. The tail are gorgeous, but they lack articulation and the ability to sit. They need to be held up or sitting on top of something. The fins on the side don't move, so when you try to sit them down they get in the way and make them entirely unable to sit flat.

The pearl white tail almost got me, but I remembered the last time I had one of these girls and it was a total nightmare. I ended up getting Rico with the outfit this round instead because I've been wanting him.

I wonder why they're sold out? I thought they may have been updating the listing since they didn't have body blushing when it release, but they're still gone. Weird.

 

Thank you for the information. That is such a shame that the tail is like that. They are so beautiful, but that is definitely a big issue

@Littlebirdzoom it's sad to hear that they can't event sit nicely. How to display these mermaids if I have one then?

 

Mermaids can't sit because of huge fins on their hips. Sometimes I use a pile of pillows directly under their buts x) that way they can half-sit... but most of the time mine is standing on doll-stand.

 

Yeah they kind of need to be suspended under the armpit on a doll stand or have a special softer chair-like thing for them to sit on if you want them to sit.

 

It's confusing that they offer Serin and Rico so often with how terrible the articulation on the tail is. Do that many people really buy them?

 

While they are back up for sale there still is no option for the blushing and paint of the tail & ears? I am confused

 

I had everything in my cart and was entering my information when Serin and Rico went out of stock. I was getting the human version, eyes and outfit. It’s so weird because it lets you enter the information but can’t complete anything.

 

I wasn't even trying to order one and am getting the it is not up for sale anymore message.

 

There is now a message on the web page that the number of orders for Serin&Rico exceeded the estimated amount, and they sold out but then opened the second order with a longer waiting period... which then sold out as well. First time I'm seeing something like this for one of their LGs.

 

They must be really out of stock this time but I find this whole thing strange. I’ve been in the hobby for years and never has a doll sold out before the ordering period (except those special events/lotteries/one off/ LE 20 dolls) or sold out as I was entering my address to buy it! I sent the screenshot to Soom but I don’t know if they will let me buy it or just tell me sorry you are out of luck. ‍Its crazy!

Some of their limited to [xx] set dolls did sold out quickly. But it's the first time I'm seeing something like this for their normal pre-order.

 

Yes, especially for a pre order of a doll they've offered so many times before!

 

I'm one of those people. I've got a few different versions, because I find the sculpt so lovely. I'm upset that I missed this order, because I really wanted that purple tail.

 

I am shocked too. I've never seen a doll sell out so quickly on the Gem site. The outfit is still available though!

 

I guess that really is it. Damn. I wonder how may orders they got, but I don't know if I remember seeing this before. I'm so sorry the people who wanted them weren't able to get one. :/ I wonder if asking them would make them open it up again.

 

In case anyone was curious, Soom said I was out of luck and that they didn’t have any more dolls, just to place a new order for the eyes and outfit. Which I won’t be doing because the eyes and outfit were for Serin- I don’t have any Little Gems. Unfortunately I was too slow in ordering. I’ll remember how fast they sold out if I ever want one again.
I thought maybe there was a small chance because I didn’t order any mermaid parts and people cancel orders all the time- maybe they would allow it after seeing everything in my cart and explaining that they went out of stock as I was entering information, but whatever number they had in mind for production is firm.

Btw. How did you communicated with Soom? Via email?

I'm considering to get the outfit, but I have some item that I want to buy on their neo.dollsoom site as well. I wonder if they can ship it together to reduce the cost...?

 

@xxxsaturnxxx I would ask on their Q&A board? The worst they can say is "no." I know that they have a very strict time frame for combining shipping on the Gem site.

I've just placed orders on both neo and gem.dollsoom today. The combining shipping request work out well. It's really never hurts to ask

 

Apparently the new boy also sold out before the time limit end. I feel like if there truly is a quantity limit we should be told, because this is super disappointing. I've never seen this happen before and it's happened twice in the last few releases

 

I haven't seen it either...and it makes me worry that bots/upsellers/possibly recasters are buying them out? I know the little gems are popular but not sell-out-before-order-time-is-up popular.

 

Maybe it just a bug, cos I not see it limited by quantity (or I just blind). Never seen it before tbh, I think u need to ask Soom about it.

 

I asked soom about it and told them they should consider telling us something really is quantity limited (since there seems to be one) and that it feels a bit unfair that this keeps happening with time limit. They confirmed that the closure was from order volume, so there's no quantity information you're missing or a bug.

I do wonder if this has to do with resellers or recasters too and it worries me a lot

 

Any chance that this could be they reduce volume of production???

Consider that Covid-19 affected many doll companies too. And Soom them self have many doll lines to handle. At least we have to keep in mind that we may need to place our order asap when the doll we are looking for come out.

 

I just remembered, maybe you saw The Witch of Oz. Now they removed this from site. Was same situation, they opened pre-order and after less then 24h it was closed. But was smth with copyright, if I correctly remember. Ppl who has ordered - they got cancellations. I have a feeling like this was caused by the sheer volume of dolls that were ordered during the Serin and Rico pre-order - by taking on so many orders for that, it's caused a production blockage that is reducing capacity for other dolls. But I could be wrong.

 

I'm so happy they released Pel with the hooves again! And in a nice fantasy color too, not just white and some sort of tan. I snapped him up because I'm not taking chances anymore with how quick things have been selling out.

 

I was really looking forward to the Rang and Dain release, but they've been removed from the calendar, and now Soom says they aren't going to be taking Paypal anymore. The thought of navigating international credit card payments makes my head hurt, so I... guess I'm not going to be able to order Soom dolls anymore, whether I like them or not?

Because they're not going to be taking Paypal, which leaves paying with a credit card as my only option.

 

Wondering why they are opting out from paypal? Is it easy to claim money back or something (aka not paying their doll)? They don't specify that in their newsletter.

 

Hmm I wonder if it has to do with Paypal policies - I think I noticed recently when I paid to a Korean doll company, Paypal stated they wouldn't get their money until they sent my order. So for dolls, which cost a lot, they have to cover the costs before they get paid for the doll. So maybe Paypal policies have made them rescind it's use.

I would have liked to seen the new mini gems though.

 

According to their banner, Rang & Dain are still being released though, albeit on the 13th of June.

 

Looking at their site, I saw that in addition to discontinuing Paypal, they're also discontinuing bank transfers. The Paypal guess given above makes sense, but I'm wondering what led to the bank transfer thing.

 

Maybe this is fallout from all the Dollshe problems. I'm sure Paypal is sick and tired of all that nonsense. A recent Dollshe email seemed to indicate they may be dropping Paypal too.

Aside from PayPal policies, currency conversion rates and fees are very unfavourable towards anyone who is converting currency to and from USD. As a non-American I feel this keenly, so I pretty much avoid buying any BJD stuff using USD, and use PayPal as a last resort to pay for anything because other payment methods are much more competitive. I believe Soom's customer base is predominantly in China, judging by the payment options still available and by anecdotal evidence I've heard elsewhere. So Soom probably thinks that keeping PayPal as a payment option is not competitive and they can let it go.

I'm less sure about why they're discontinuing bank transfer, but I won't be surprised if it has to do with fees and policies as well.

 

Rang and Dain are up! I ordered their outfit using my Visa and the charge went through. I have had issues in the past using my Visa on Volks International but it worked just fine on Soom's site. Make sure you have your ad blocker disabled as the payment window pops up separately.

 

I bought Rang/Dain with a Cap One credit card and everything was smooth for me, which I'm happy about. Getting this little owl boy in light blue is a small dream come true. I was pretty punched in the heart when I saw the moon photos.

As pretty as they are, with the credit card thing, I'm going to have to pass. I've also stopped liking fantasy feet as much, and the whole having to buy a human body when I really only want human feet is also less appealing now.

 

The new dolls they announced sold out in just a day AGAIN !!!

I'm glad that I'm settled at another doll already this summer so the hurt is not that much, since I can't afford them anyway... But, still, this is absurd!

 

I placed my order and needed to call my bank, but couldn't because it was 9pm. I called first thing in the morning to get it fixed and wasn't able to pay for my order because it was sold out. I know they don't do the 24 hour hold when you place an order anymore, which I think is awful, but this whole thing is so heart breaking and I'm already really tired of it. I've been wanting Raphie and I got so excited.

Soom stop accepting Paypal really hit many of us hard. And the doll sold out so fast that I'm wondering if they reduce the max of limited quantity. They never came out and show us how many order they will accept for a normal one after all....

Btw, keep your eyes open and do not give up yet. Serin and Rico got their second batch after sold out once. They might do that to Raphie too. (Hopefully)

 

They told me just now that sales will resume and they just paused them, but if the additional quantity is sold out they will be sold out again. Kind of like Serin I guess. I hope I can pay for my order

@Littlebirdzoom I hope you can get it this second time, especially since you already spoke to your bank. It is sad that Soom's sales of their little gems seem to be so limited.

 

About when does Soom post their new expected release calendar each month? I keep hoping for a rerelease of Atrox and Tempe, and I've wanted to watch the calendar for them.

anyone have the neck measurement of Soom Serin & Rico? the DOA wiki says its 7.5 but i just wanted to make sure

 

Sounds like Soom has become kinda difficult to shop from.
I have a Volo and to be honest, I found her body really difficult
Maybe I did something wrong, but she came strung super loosely and I've really struggled with restringing her, it's like she was either too loose or too tight. Having her too tight kinda made her go spread eagle, I've never seen that in a doll before. I've also never seen a doll with this odd double elastic situation in the legs and torso before. Most dolls who have separately strung legs have maybe a resin piece in between? Stringing her with one elastic also makes her spread her legs.
I have, after many tries, finally gotten her to a nice, posable state, but her posing still isn't fantastic.
I do think she's really cute but I'm not sure I'd go for another Soom doll.

 

I don't suppose anyone here was able to make one of the early Serin/Rico pre-orders and have their doll arrive? I'd like to see how the purple tail looks! As it is, I'm currently waiting on a white tail and a purple tail; I managed to get in the second pre-order period which means I'm not likely to see them until Late November/December at the earliest.

 

I got the new unicorn Shale / Adamelli as my first Soom. I've never had a MSD size, but I always wanted a unicorn girl so I'm excited.

 

I just ordered a rose pink Shale and hope she's as bubble gum pink in real life as she is in photos. I've waited so long to move up from Soom Teeny Gems to MSD!

I'm getting my girl blank. The pink/purple pastel looks really nice on them, but I've been wanting a more classic fantasy unicorn girl with white/gold shimmer, white eyelashes, and gold hooves. Started putting together a Pinterest board for the faceup and body blushing commission.

I did get the whipped cream dress too with the pink and purple sprinkles, so she'll still have a bit of color to her if I feel in a pastel mood!

 

I'm really hoping that the next time they release Serin&Rico I'll manage to snatch one or two... It's so sad how they've been sold out almost instantly unlike other Little Gems.
