Soom Idealian - a new type of soomed?

Aug 24, 2009

1. I wondered how Soom was going to handle all this. Maybe some of their subsidiary help canceled on them. Resin stability is a big problem that Iplehouse went through, so maybe that. :|

Note: When they refund money via PP, companies use a special refund method that does not charge fees to the recipient.

Hang in there, guys. When ID finally is released, he'll be fabulous, I'm sure.

:pcake *hands out cake all around*

2. Really sucks for the people who ordered. >.< Maybe Soom will give you guys a gift or discount when they put him back for sale again? I think that would be a nice gesture.

I want to think a bit more positive about this. One Soom finally is taking steps to get their priorities straight and get those dolls shipped. Yes they are taking a blow by disapointing customers, but maybe in the end it will have been a good thing for those who wanted him to have to wait a while. Because I think he will be released again in the future. And by then people will be ready and have money saved up for him. And maybe he'll have his own line of clothes too by then. Plus some of us who were on the fence now have time to decide if he's released in the future. Honestly I feel a sigh of relief since every doll company and its mother is having some new doll or event and its overwhelming at the moment especially when its the holiday season coming up and money is tighter.

I think we'll be seeing him again, maybe after this year's monthlies are out the door. I know if I had bought him before this it would be a big blow, but they put a lot of work into designing him so I don't see them dropping the project forever. Have hope.

3. I'm really deeply sorry for all who had just ordered him and were in the frenzy happiness of the add to card...
I was waiting to see more about the EID model before taking a decision in buying him...So... I understand.

Big hugs to all !

At least, you won't have a poor bjd which brains collapse (litteraly !) unstringing him in the same time ! >_<
I really hope they will release him later with all the garanties of a very well done bjd.
Let's be positive !

4. Wow...yikes, I wake up thismorning to find this out ! Well, hopefully Soom put their backs into it and we see Idealian come back bigger and better than ever in the future. Better that time's taken to make certain of a quality product that can effectively be reproduced well to cover demand

5. How long in the future? I dont know if I should save my money once it's refunded or what..Maybe they can give us a time frame. ::Sighs heavily::

I was looking forwardto having an Idealian..I named him Mathias. T_T

I understand Soom needs to take a break and is having problems keeping their shipping times up and trying to satisfy everyone. I really do. But what I dont understand is why AFTER they starting selling the doll, they decide to do this.

They really need to stop the MDs for a short period of time to c atch up. That way they can be caught up with everything.

6. Well, I know when they do finally truly release him, I'm going to be pining so hard. I was excited about all his features before, and when I finally saw his face, something just clicked. But alas, things are too rough right now to consider buying anything but food and hope to god to keep our house.

7. By the sounds of it Idealian was a new type of tanned resin, I'm wondering if he was the same french resin mixture like Iplehouse? Perhaps they were worried that dolls would start turning green? I'm also wondering how much all the complaints about the site affected their decision. Either way, he's no longer for sale so I guess we all have to wait until they rerelease him.

8. I'm just hoping when they re-release him i don't hate the re-released version if they change anything. -_-

9. Well Iplehouse discontinued EID dark Kamau before any were ever dispatched but they did come up with the product for those who had placed an order and I'm glad to say that I am one of them.

On another note - I am a member of Soom and I went through the motions of ordering him yesterday but when I got to the Checkout I was told I did not have permission. I did sent Soom a little note saying I was not happy to be refused buying an expensive doll when I had multiple points stored up against it from a previous sale and I questioned the value of the point system. Of course I am never going to get a reply as the Q & A section went down with the rest of the site.

10. ???? Explain please as there are SEVERAL people with Kamaus :?

11. I did say I was ONE of them - not the only one. The order period was open for several weeks and I'm sure there could be dozens, if not hundreds of Kamaus released. I have also heard that he may be rereleased in normal resins and that would be interesting too as it is a lovely sculpt.

12. Thought it was just order period was over..

Oh well sorry for going OT

13. The policy applies to all MD dolls, one presumes at least on the Gem side, from Bygg and Beyla on, according to the old notice. So far that means Bygg, Beyla and Sphaler. And it's 100 business days from final payment, so people on layaway have a longer wait-time. Personally I think we saw a few more people pay up-front (I know I did ) earlier on as a result.

.hlp

14. Yep. I don't think it's cost them anything yet, though, since I don't think it's 100 business days since B&B went up to buy. The long long long waits have been on others thus far, outside the policy range, so I don't know if they've paid out for this or not at all (or will have to for a while yet). I think 100 business days from the first day they were up to order is New Year's Day, or the day after. (I forget if they went up on the 22nd or 23rd.) So the policy won't have started to bite them for losses yet anywhere.

15. I really wish they could get a better translator. I am sure half of what they are trying to say isn't getting across to us the way they intended. It is sad that they released him for sale and then pulled him back for some unknown reason on the other hand - if the reason is because they've run out of pigment or resin, or because they'd like to re-do the catalogue pictures...I'm all for it. I want to see the best this doll can be - not only on their web page but - for those who want to be dust (lol!)...in their arrival pictures.

Which brings up another question - how seriously are people supposed to take that oath? Will people be posting pictures of their Idealian even though they took an oath not to? I'm kind of confused.

16. I just got an email from Jin Lee... She's still their English sales representative, I think... And I'm glad, because she's nice... :D This is what they sent me, I hope it's okay to post here :

They don't stop the production... But like some of you have already guessed, they're just trying to give a better version. And yes, I WILL BE WAITING!~* :sweat I feel so relieved. I hope nothing bad will come again in the future! I don't think I can handle another confusion... :...(

17. Okay..well..that's nice..but how soon in the future? I'd like to know if we're getting refunded or if they're going to keep our money until the new released version comes out.

I'm very worried about whether I will like the new version or not.

I wish they would of done what Charon said that Iplehouse did. But I dont think soom will.

18. If you read the letter carefully, SOOM is giving us an option... :|

19. Ohhh. Well maybe I'll hold my payment then. And see if I like him when he re-releases, assuming he isn't going to be re-released 8 months from now. -_- And if I decide I dont like him at that point then I can still be refunded.

20. Man, now I wish I had been able to buy him now just to save the 10% later...

21. Lol @ Sixpence.

22. Frustrated and angry Shatner icon is frustrated and angry.

First the increased wait for MDs. Then the site redesign/splitting. Then the Idealian oath nonsense. Now they put him on sale and the change their minds.

This is a new experience for me. I am getting to sit back and watch my respect for a company dissolve one day at a time. I am so soured on Soom at the moment that I really don't even want to look at my Soom dolls right now. I just got a Heliot girl back from faceup today. It is the first time she has been in my possession for more than 15 minutes. And I just...don't...care. I even drew up some figures today or how sweet of a new computer I could buy if I sold my incoming Cass. And, turns out, it's a pretty decent computer.

Over the past two weeks, I have lost pretty much all respect for Soom. They are in way over their heads, and their decisions just keep getting harder and harder to excuse. I am washing my hands for them for a while.

The only ray of hope for them, really, is the 100 days or less policy. But I don't believe they will keep the deadline. And I think when the realize exactly how much money they are going to have to refund because of it, I think they will discontinue the policy without warning. Soom is a big fan of not telling us what they're thinking. This will be no different.

Long story short: I don't know how a company can behave so erratically and still expect to keep their customer base. Soom makes some beautiful dolls, but nothing is worth this much hassle IMO. Even to like me, who is used to making excuses and justifications for almost everything they've done.

23. I still love my Sabik and my other soom dolls. I took my Sabik to work today. But I am very disappointed with them. ::Shrugs::

24. Yeah~ I asked them about that, too. What if I don't like your new ID_ealian? Would you still refund me then? :? As for other dolls... I'm not going to buy ANY of SOOM MDs anymore... *_* I will only buy one Carnel next year, and that's it. I still have 2 CHROMs and 1 Sphaler and 1 ID_ealian in their hands. Carnel is basic, so I'm guessing he will come home at roughly the same time as ID_ealian... :| I'm amazed that I could still hope.

25. Yeah..I lost hope after it took me 6 months to get my Amber. >_< Not too long, compared to others waits. But its still frustrating.

26. This is Real Life "Korean Drama" in action.

So many chances within 10 days. I am all confused.

I am pretty sure there are many reasons they pulled him off sale list - whatever they were, I think it is the right decision. Since they are already flooded with orders that are not being shipped on time. This would just add to the workload.

Let's all face the fact that we all had doubt why Soom was adding more line when they were so behind. The reality is that they are not ready. So it is better for them to get their act together and we save those money for later when they are ready.

27. The thought of them adding another line and their behindedness never occurred to me..and maybe I sould be relieved that we wont have to weight 8 months to get our idealians..im not. >_<

28. Well I have just been stood on the sidelines watching [I really can not make another doll work for some time, so joining the hype was a no-go] but all I can say is that I wish their minds and their service seemed as consistant as the :aheartbea ness of their dolls. Hope all of you who ordered have things resolved soon.

29. Starting the count.... It was 21 August, as I recall, very early for a Soom MD offering...

8 January 2010 should be the latest they can ship those first-day orders, before they start shelling out, and everyone queues up from there. Now, that's assuming they aren't counting any public weekday holidays along the way, which I'd suppose could draw it out longer.

But the long and the short of it is that I think they have the bulk of the Glots and Glatis out. There were only a couple hundred Hatis and Skolls worldwide, and that just leaves Iv and Eliv to be done prior to the Byggs and Beylas. I'll bet, if push comes to shove, we'll see a portion of those hooved babies shipped before the end of December, and there'll be a lot less 'I paid a month before you but mine still hasn't shipped' going on. ;)

.hlp

30. I don't order the tinies, so I don't keep track of the dates. But, exactly. I don't think we're saying different things here. My initial comment was in reply to the policy costing them money -now- on the delayed orders and Soom doing some of these things due to bleeding money on that policy -- which shouldn't be going on yet, if it ever will.

31. I'm a little late to the party, so I was wondering if someone could tell me where I could find pictures of this doll's face and his brain, lol.

I tried the soom site, but they have that notice up and it won't let me see anything.

Also, I'm sorry for those who ordered, hopefully Soom can get themselves together.

32. You can still see a few photos here :

http://dollsoom.co.kr/eng/shop/content.php?co_id=idealian_function

Let me see if I had his sales photos stored... ;)

33. I'm pretty sure Iplehouse didn't discontinue the dark-skinned Sword Dance Kamau early. They had a set ordering period for him from the beginning, and once that ordering period was over, they began producing and shipping the dolls. I remember looking at him on the site up to the very last day of the ordering period, and debating whether or not I should buy him.

He has also been re-released already once as a Special Edition in real skin, though he has not yet been released as a standard in normal and white skin.

34. So disappointing :/

I wasn't really blown away by Idealian, but I was looking forward to owner pictures and new face-plates (if they were made). Soom's really been dropping the ball lately...I really doubt I'll be getting my chrom's before the end of the year (watch my bygg's get here first) and it's really frustrating. Probably won't be buying from Soom in the near future unless they get organized or I fall head over heels for one of their MDs (only because those second hand prices are horrible).

35. ok, so i was kinda meh before, but now i'm pissed: what's up with them releasing a new girl now? They JUST released Sphaler, couldn't do ID, and now another? seriously soom?

36. They did? O_O

Ugh..this is starting to disgust me. They can't release a 73 cm idealian but they can release a MA? >_<

37. remember that idelian is a whole new model, sculpt , resin, with plenty of new issues to work out.

the new MA is a new head sculpt only, in standard WS and NS
no new body engineering , no new resin.

production of the new MA would be business as usual for soom , rather than the new territory that idelian is for them.

i would also not be surprised if they are rethinking the whole oath/ RP presentation of
idelian given the response it received .

38. Agreed; plus, we haven't actually seen a new MA head sculpt for about a year and a half now. The most recent one was Saiph, in April08.

39. And I think they have a different department for basics and limiteds... >_> as for MDs, IDs, and MAs?

40. surreality>> Wow, now that you mention it, you're right! O_O There hasn't been a new MA out in ages! I guess the MDs really had them swamped. :<

I wonder if they have different project/concept teams working on the separate lines, or if they've only got one team scrambling around everywhere. That might be why some lines seem to be neglected while others are flourishing, and all the rushing around. o_o

41. o.O What new girl?

42. If they're understaffed, then yeah. It can be like that... >_> It will explain all the problems. And that's why JinLee unni is the only one answering all the messages on all the boards... Poor girl... =_=''

43. No wonder I hadn't seen her, on the MA site... That's one thing I don't like about the new site, everything is split up and scattered all over kingdom come.

44. Yes... I explained this before but don't remember where... ^^
Her Korean name is Lee Jin --> 이진 ... ^^;; (pronounced ee-jeen).
Because English names are written as "given name + surname",
she puts her surname at the back of her given name...
Therefore, you see JinLee instead of LeeJin~ ^^

45. Very impressive body. But similar to ELD of Iplehouse. No matter how real they could produce the body parts like human, if they scurlpt the head with a cartoonlist face, it would spoilt the whole doll - FMHO

46. Yes the body's impressive, but the brain thing looks so stupid.
Just a quick look of his structure I don't see it's possible to switch heads? you know, it's a MUST

47. I would imagine that you could use some sort of donut and an S-hook if you wanted a completely different head on him. I'd hope that whatever faceplates they make would be interchangeable without the need to remove the back of the head.

48. At the risk of seeming terminally stupid, I have yet to see full pictures of the doll-I'm having trouble with my log-in account and any time I clicked on the link there were no pictures, it just said that product was in production. I'm giving up-don't need all the background info, don't need the cutesy advertising gimmicks, don't want to have to jump through a bunch of hoops that supposedly make the doll seem more special. I just want to be able to come onto a site and look at a doll with a minimum effort on my part and see plenty of pictures with a minimum of Photoshopping, thank you.

49. i don't know if you've kept up with this thread, but at the moment, the production of Idealian has been stopped, therefore, no photos at this time. if you already know this, sorry.

50. Just popping in to tell those of you who were looking forward to this doll how sorry I am that you've been disappointed!
I took think Soom has done a very brave and very good thing in putting his release on hold, because I'm sure they have a good reason for it.
You can guarantee Idealian will be back and even better soon enough, then you can all bring him home and love him even more, so try not to be too upset!
I hope he's back soon!

51. Wow, I think it's good that Soom halted production on Idealian rather than send out faulty dolls. I know we're all just rawr because we can't fling our money at something, but at least they stopped to fix it rather than give you an unfinished product. I can put money on it that you guys would be FAR MORE rawr about that than receiving your money back and a discount should you decide to purchase him when he's actually finished.

If anything, that increases my respect for them as a company. If they'd given you guys the faulty dolls, I don't think I could feel confident purchasing from them again, because once it's done what's to stop them from doing it again? In short, it's far more detrimental to their reputation to go forward than to hold back, refund you with an apology and fix it.

The flaw is huge enough to stop production. Has no one noticed that? Does anyone really want their money spent on a doll with a flaw big enough to stop production? I don't. That'd destroy my trust in a company.

Huzzah! New MA! It'd be awesome if there was a boy in next month's FFD.

52. Totally in agreement with you. I hope they are at least able to release something they are proud of. ^^

53. Well said! I agree completely.

I'd be totally pissed if I got an inferior doll that was put out to meet an arbitrary deadline and/or to keep people from complaining. I can see why people are annoyed-- as this is on top of the website redesign (and temporary (?) loss of data) and the interminable waits many have had for their monthly dolls. For me, though, it's more important that people keep the big promises than the small ones. I honestly don't know how people waiting months upon months for several monthly dolls have kept their sanity. The promise of when something will be delivered is a big one, to me. Its a basic fact of doing business. Deliver when you have promised to do so, and if you are having problems meeting deadlines, don't keep making the same promise. A company needs to be able to deliver on their promises. The fact that in this instance (Idealian), at least, Soom is backing away before breaking the implied (but important) promise to deliver a quality, well-designed doll is far better than the alternative. Their introduction date was also a promise, but a less important one, IMO.

54. I really think Soom should catch up on their website Q&A and their outstanding orders before they release a whole new doll at this point.

55. Nevermind... Answered by LeeJin unni~*

56. Did soom ever tell us when to expect the re-released version of idealian?

57. Nope... But here's some reply from LeeJin unni~ :aheartbea She's so nice... :D

I hope it means they will release him again real soon~ :aheartbea

58. Well, I am glad Soom has someone as Jin Lee to manage the communication ;)

About the timing, well I received this reply, that I must say satisfy me about the payment I have done and about the chance to buy him with a discount in the future. As I have done a full payment, they will give me it back in full, without holding it for the new release, as I asked.

Than I asked if there is a ETA for the new release and I received a honest reply.
