Fingerprints!?

 

Oh goodness me! If the rest of the doll is as amazing as that hand...we are all Soomed!!!!

 

I JUST signed on and this is the first thing I saw and wow.
I can't believe he has fingerprints!
This is intensely exciting, and I agree with you, he definitely looks like a big boy.

 

wow i cant believe soom is taking on a new project with so many monthlies in line!i must admit, the fingerprints kind of wierd me out...

 

Maybe this is a revamp of the MA size line? So many people have complained about that size being 'too big' that I don't think they would likely go much above that size.

 

Dude any doll that had fingerprints has got me thinking.......I wonder what this doll will look like and how tall, and the price. Will wait for further updates

I wonder if he might be a reworking of Mechas, or perhaps he'll be in the 70cm-75cm range between the Super Gems and the Mechas. I can't wait to find out!

I'm pretty sure I have never seen fingerprints on a doll before!

 

I'm liking the vein detail in the hand, but I'm on the fence about the fingerprints. Hurm.

He'll undoubtedly be pretty big.

 

I would be great if he is a revised MA size, as much as I love the concept of BIG doll, I am not sure if I can handle or have room for anything bigger LOL LOL

I am just loving the detail of the sculpt...I am just dying to see what the rest of him is like if the hand is so intricate. As for size, I am not sure it would matter too much to me as long as the sculpt rocks my socks ^_^

Soom, should stop, you know, they're giving themselves so much work... it's already a six month wait for a monthly one (or something like that) it's getting silly, people are complaining about the waits as well.
No doubt he'll probably be amazing and fantastic and have new characteristics we've never seen on a doll before... but realistically, I don't think Soom needed to give themselves MORE work to do.

HOLY CRAP! I have a feeling that I won't even really want whatever it is when it comes out, but the suspense is still killing me.

I have to wonder if this isn't something with a more 'brawny' look to compete with the Iplehouse EID superhero boys? It'd likely be in their general 'bigger doll' size range, and that does seem to be a very popular line for Iplehouse, and with the notion of different body sizes/types for one general size of doll seeming popular... yeah, I have to wonder if these will either be close to MA or close to SG size, or somewhere in between. One of the main criticisms I have seen about the MA line is that the men are very tall and slim, which -- while I love them -- is true.

While I'm curious to see what they do with the fingerprint idea, I'm not totally sold on it yet. I am really impressed by it and think it's another example of Soom pushing boundaries and really making an effort to do something unusual, which is a nifty thing in my book.

Edit: I don't really think this is going to make a difference -- or a notable one -- in their production schedule yet. I'd bet the sculptors are not the same people as the people who do the casting, faceup, clothing, and so on, so what the sculptors are working on really isn't going to have much of an impact on the wait times for limited items. Also, apparently the regular releases production line seems to be going smoothly if not quickly from what little I've seen, so if this is going to be a new regular product line, it wouldn't be having much of an effect on the people with the extended MD waits, which are the ones that are considerable.

I wonder if he will be a standard. Is there a wait time on their standards as well? I know with Volks standards are premade and ready to ship when you order, but I am unsure of how the Soom standards work. I just know that the monthly I bought probably will be another 3-4 month wait. But, I knew that going into it so it doesn't upset me too much. I do see the points about giving themselves lots of work though. But, if people understand it will be a very long wait and want to buy anyway there is nothing wrong with that. Unoas have always been a long wait and they are still super popular ^_^ Okies, I think I am getting off topic lol.

 

The fingerprints don't look like they belong with that hand imo. Looks like random swirls in the center of the finger tip because they don't take up the whole finger and are too large to be in scale with the hand. Maybe it's just me.
Will wait to see what this is. Very intriguing. Here's hopeing it's a thicker, more porportionate MA sized doll!

The standards are still made to order, so they aren't ready to ship when ordered. Sounds like 2 weeks to a month or so average wait on them. I've ordered standards from them, and the ones I ordered with all the trimmings took about 2 months each (while they were dealing with the Sard & Beryl crush of orders at the same time, before they had a zillion production lines) and the blanks, about a month at the longest, though I think one made it to my door in under 2 weeks.

Edit: In regard to detail vs. size, I don't necessarily think that has to be any larger than any of their current dolls based on detail alone. One of the dolls I had ordered a while back -- Limwha's To L -- arrived today, and I am seriously in love with this boy's hands and feet. The level of detail on them is about the same, save for the fingerprints, and they are just stunning. (I'm way behind on pics, camera is charging while I work.) That doll is around Super Gem size.

 

Thank you surreality! That does not seem to be that bad of a wait. I honestly think as long as they are upfront with wait times, I will have no problem ordering this boy if I end up really liking him.

I can't wait to see what they've come up with now! I love seeing what Soom creates every time, even if it's not a sculpt that I personally want to own.

 

Finger prints are not done perfectly but I am not so bothered by them since you can simply sand them down a little

I hope Jin is willing to give out more information and not just the usual - "thank you for loving our dolls. We will release more information soon please wait for them" answer that I usual get from him/her

My first thought was that this is their response to Iple's EIDs, just as others have said. I also agree that I doubt this will be a taller doll than MAs. It does look like a brawny sculpt from what you can see. The fingerprint idea is cool, but not at all a draw for me personally. It is great to see the companies continue to innovate and create new options for us!

 

...Given that it says "Process of creating the Master Form" underneath all the photos, I'm thinking he might be the form of Maranoa, their Creater-of-Everything from the one "Legend of the Doll" episode we have so far? Who might theoretically belong to the First Land, and thus be due to be released sometime after the start of next year?

I was wondering a little about that, too. The quote they have on the page seems to conform to that idea also.

It may be that long until we see him as a limited, but I would guess they may do a normal release -- or release him in with the FFDs in cycles -- of him before that. It would definitely be the smart way to go, because if there is some sort of problem or issue to sort out, they would find out before they got the kind of order surge a limited edition gets. I'd expect a surge with an FFD or new release, but not quite of the same magnitude.

My first thought was also Maranoa. Or at least the form the 'First Land' god(s) will be. That doesn't mean we won't have non limited versions first, though.

The fingerprints and realism aside, I'm really liking the lips on this boy so far. The nose looks quite promising, too.

 

*shares a cup of coffee with anavel* They really do seem to have us nailed, don't they? And seeing so many familiar names in this thread, well, at least when the sooming comes to claim us, we'll all be in it together, as usual.

It would be nice if it was a line added to the FFD. Admittedly, I am not a huge fan of the FFD cycles, since it's so easy to put money aside for a FFD, and before the doll I want on it comes up, there is something else shiny on a shorter timetable that will not come up again that demands the funds. I -do- think it's a good idea for Soom, though, because with the really big dolls requiring tons of resin and extra cure time, or the ones with special attention required like the tan resin dolls that had been available sometimes through the FFD, it gives them somewhat more manageable chunks of work to handle from any given order period. Since they -do- come up again, there isn't quite the same 'must get it immediately or it will never appear again!' panic attached to them as there is with the monthly dolls.

 

My bet is that it's revised Mecha Angel with more proportional body mass. MA males have a kind of odd physique, even after Soom replaced their thin arms with thicker arms.

Personally, I wish they'd revise their old, 60 cm line instead. I like regular gems, but the bodies are really puny for the males (especially Namu, whose head is pretty but way too big for his body).

Fingerprints are... interesting. The concept is nice but it seems kind of crude. I think the lines should be much subtler and thinner, though I'm not sure if that's possible.

I know exactly what you mean.... but with the dark unicorn big boy coming out next month and all.... I really think FFD is better. One the order time is shorter and we are NOT all forced to order from them at the same time so they have more time to finish the order in a timely manner.....

Anyway, I think I am just getting too antsy about these new body etc.

 

The "master form" probably just means they're finalizing the sculpt. Gotta remember that English isn't their first language. ^^

He has extra skin folds around the knuckles etc but I do not see the joints

 

I really hope it's a 80cm better version of the MA body, as much as I LOVE my Heat (Sabik) I just do not like his body, there are so many MA's I would own if they had more proportionate bodies.

Also what worries me is the clothes factor, it seems that with the exception of Dollmore and Volks all of these companies put out odd sized dolls without thinking of the clothes for them, that is one of my biggest peeves. The poor MA guys have nothing but hoodies

I don't mean to complain or be a downer, it's only cos I love the Soom head sculpts so much.

Entirely too true! Admittedly, they had a decent lineup for a while of some basics at least, but they all seemed to sell out rather quickly, and even the ones not noted as limited appeared to sell out and not restock. I ended up snagging the black two piece suit for my guys, and am so glad I did. (The MA girls were even worse off -- one sci-fi outfit and two prom dresses for almost a year from what I could tell. *shuddertwitch*)

It's encouraging, though, that with all the recent influx of cash and popularity, they do seem to be making more clothes for the SG line than they had before. Even a handful of MA garments have trickled in since. It may take them a little while at the start, but I think it's a positive sign that they have the funds to throw some additional support behind the product lines that include dolls with odd sizing and are willing to at least do a -little- more of it than they had previously.

What I wish they'd do is hook up with whoever is doing the clothes for Iplehouse. Seriously. There's some amazing stuff over there, and even if it isn't always to my taste, they have done really well in making sure there is at least a general range of things there for their odd size dolls around the time they start shipping them out.

Edit: I'm really not kidding when I say I took up knitting again because I thought my MAs looked chilly.

 

They should hook up with Sadol and those people who are making outifits for SoulDoll.

Those outfits would look great for 80cm.

Initially I thought this was a response to Iplehouse's EID boys and girls too! I'm an Iplehouse fan, so I dont think Soom can match up to Iplehouse's EID bodies~ LOL But after reading speculations that this could be another monthly thing that Soom has planned, I have reconsider.

Also, after seeing the photoshopped pictures of the teasers, parts of the scuplt (ie veins on hands, that lip from that angle) is reminscient of the Bruce Lee body (LOL) from Dollmore's Glamour Line. Which I do like - don't get me wrong, but the teaser doesn't come off as impressive. Sorry Soom, I'm not Soomed from your teasers yet. I guess shall wait some more

 

That is nuts. Just bonkers. Fingerprints!? Ok ok, I really wanna blush him. Yes I do. I love blushing veins and such. The fingerprints would be fun. It would be easy to make him seem like an auto mechanic with greasy hands, or a write all inkstained kinda like their promo.

Now if we blame our dolls for stealing our credit cards to their friends and lovers our hubbies can prove they didn't do it.

Whoever is making the outfits for souldoll has won my love forever. Though I have to say, some of the Soom outfits are pretty good, too; it's just the lack of range that is a problem sometimes. The suit I ordered is exceptional, and mercy knows I would not have made real welt pockets in that size for what they were asking for it.

The only issue I have with Souldoll clothes is that it seems that by the time I see that they have new outfits up, they're already gone -- too few of them seem to be made for each one, which is a pity, because they are really remarkable. I lucked out once and was able to grab one of their special fancy wigs, but I doubt they made more than a dozen of them at most, because it was sold out about ten minutes after I placed my order.

I suspect they have more resources to invest in the supporting products now than they did even this time last year, though, so I think it's promising that we'll see some good stuff -- and it really doesn't surprise me that they seem to be adding a new line in general. Since they seem to be phasing out some of the others, it made me wonder if that wasn't to clear the way for something new.

 

I'm just curious to see what he is. 80 cm is a bit big for me, so I really hope it's a beefier SG or 70 cm size. The hands are nice but I'd probably sand the fingerprints off. I like a lot of the Soom sculpts, so if he's not a giant, then I just might be doomed, er soomed too.

hellsingmongrel No, there is no teaser pictures yet. However, in the past 6 months, all the big MD from 2nd land has been the BIGGER version of the small MD from 4th land. This time it is white and grey unicorn. White unicorn is Heliot which they will not do again, so there is only grey unicorn left to do. So I am putting my money down for the dark unicorn

 

Ooooh, I see. haha I'd noticed they followed a "mini versions - big versions - new minis - new bigs" sort of pattern, but I hadn't thought about what this next Unidoll would be. Since they're usually so different, I wasn't sure what they would do with it.

Still...now that I think about it...I'm still so screwwwwwed...

I was under the impression they did the white and grey unicorn to represent heliot and Onyx since onyx was basically a "normal" doll with white and grey skin. So they just did two unicorns in the two resin colors. Who knows though

Anyways this new guy looks amazing! I have a feeling once he's cast in actual resin that the fingerprints will look better. When looking at them in grey they're really noticeable, but once in resin form they will probably be more subtle and prettier (you lose some detail when casting first off and the color itself should make it look nicer). Some reason he looks a little...crude to me. But I guess I'll have to wait for final pictures to make my decision! I'm excited Soom is making a bulkier boy, it just seems like he's..."lumpy" or something. But then again I've always been scared of human body builders so maybe that's all it is
