Soom Idealian - a new type of soomed?

Aug 24, 2009

    1. I wonder what clothes he'll be able to wear? I've figured I might be able to afford him if I forgo the clothes, eyes, and wig and just stick to adding the extra faceplate >.<
As gorgeous as he is, I could not keep him naked forever ;) I'd have to be able to buy clothes for him eventually...

    2. my guess would be super gem or mech angel clothes

    3. I totally did not see that! :o But then, I've been absorbed with looking at the MDs (and now Idealian). Given the shots in settings (like the subway and office) it seemed like they had more than the usual background worked out for him. There are a ton of talented manhwa artists out there, if the character(s), story, and setting are all worked out already. . . such a partnership would benefit everyone involved. Particularly if the doll itself is successful.

    4. I was really tempted from DAY 1...and then I finally saw his faces. I was admittedly disapointed. I thought he would have a more chisled face like Michaelangelo's David - due to the way the body was sculpted. Out of the two face choices I like the vampire one most but the face-ups and photography doesn't do the doll justice.

Do you think they will continue this line and produce other face-plates or give it different face-ups? (longer lower lashes...he so needs this)

    5. I heart skinny guys..but my boyfriend is big..:sweat Figure that one out. Lol. But I do love this dolls body. He's not too thin either. I have a dollshe and he's thin and I love his lanky thin self..but I do love the soom's bigger upper bodies like their chests <3

    6. Hehehe... both body types have their merits & when it comes to doll body types especially so! However, I think the lack of good chunky bodys out there has any new meaty Mr on the doll market looking good.
Ps. similarly my Hubby is 6 ft 6" & solid. :kitty1

    7. There are no comparison pics, but under 'about Idealian Master' are some pictures that make him look a lot darker than NS. Especially the one on the bed with white sheets. There he looks quite similar to Iplehouse's Real Skin.

    8. I hope the tawny skin is similar to Iple House's RS! I love how my Amy looks like! Caramel skin... Yummy color... And it glows under the light, too! DX Dazzling...

    9. [IMG]

      what does this mean??

they sell only for those who bought?
      they wont sell any?
      they gave up?
they will work on it in the future..i assume?

    10. WTF! that they dont sell ID anymore!!!

    11. Now Soom Is Going To Get It!!!

    12. from just a guess, it says "shortage of goods" so i do hope those who bought/paid can get him.

at least we can all share in admiring from afar even if its too late for the rest

    13. I hope so too, but it impossible to get into the ID website, but my order is still on The Gem website...
I mean, this is one of the most sought after dolls in a long time, but if we dont get our ID´s, us who ordered them before this "incident", there is going to be hell with SOOM!!!

    14. :huh?:this seems very odd

after so much time and energy has already been put into the project I can't see them abandoning it completely

    15. After re-reading many times, it looks like they are going to develop him but was too ambitious and will take some time *more time to save?**more time to perfect it?* before everyone gets a half-assed doll that is nowhere near idealian prototype?

      OK I can HOPE.

    16. Thats what we can hope for, right now, but still no email from SOOM :o( i guess we have to wait, anywho, i still get my Rex in December, thats a comfort to me...

    17. As far as I understand, they are saying they need a bit more time to develop it, in order to offer the quality they expect from it. And that they will come back with the product totally finished when they are fully prepared to sell it. So, from what I see, it is just a delay? That can happen, it is a new, huge project, and they'd better not rush it.

    18. Wow, Soom appears to be getting their wires crossed left and right at this point. :huh?: Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in the company, with all these "oops, we're sorry, we decided to do ______ instead" announcements.

    19. After all that elaborate set up, all the cult rules and admission process and the long string of teasers. :...( Heck I just decided I probably wouldn't bond well with a tanned doll and I'm disappointed!

I have to say I feel a bit bad for Soom right now... I wonder what it is that happened that they didn't know yesterday? I know they've got to be disappointed too. It seems like they put a lot of effort into him.

    20. Well, perhaps the managers and the investers were pressing for the release, but the crafting team didn't feel confidant enough to release it yet. This happens in my industry a lot (I work in videogames), and in the end, the poorly-released products are not what people were expecting, and are a loose of money instead of major profits. so I guess it is somehow better, if they decide to give it a bit more time of development.

    21. Who didnt see that coming XDD?

Soom is way over their heads...time to slow down and concentrate on what they really should be doing.

All "soomed" should be used to disappointments by now.

    22. I think it's better that Soom is realizing their mistakes now and try to correct them, than when they are overwhelmed by ID orders later. I'm probably the only one but I think this is a good sign of reactivity. Whether it's because of the critics about the project or a technical production problem we ignore, it's better they do something now.
I hope the ones who already has ordered will recieve their doll or their money back quickly.

    23. *grumbling*

I guess I'll stay quiet and wait now. VERY disappointed at the moment, and crying out loud.

    24. Well, they say they are going to contact the people who already bought ID individually, so I guess there will be no IDs produced for a while.
As much as it will hurt Soom to cancel their sales, I think this kind of damage is much better than the damage done when dolls are shipped out and those end up falling apart. Imagine the outrage after people get defective dolls.

I think they discovered a flaw in the doll they just can't get a way with and have to work that out before starting production. Bad timing, but I still think the concept is neat. Hopefully Soom will sell ID in the future. As much as the vampire head was freaking me out, it started to grow on me. ^_^

    25. If its any consolation, it is really really better this way than anyone having to wait 6-12 months for their ID and may be imperfect too!

I think they are very brave to do this, and willing to "submit to reproach" lol

    26. No comment.... I am very disappointed at the moment. And I was even thinking of sell one of my Sards to get Idealian... It must be a private curse I have upon me... going to remove the Sard sale... -.- no need it anymore.

    27. So what happens to everyone that has already ordered and paid for him? I hope you guys get refunds quickly or some type of resolution to this problem. Wow, Soom is just... messing up with all this back and forth.

They really bit off more than they could chew here. I think it's high time they stepped back, took a breath and just kind of slowed it down.

They seem to be constantly trying to prove that they're awesome when everyone already knows that.

    28. No refund yet. And no email either. I'm constantly refreshing my PP account AND my Order Status AND my email. Nothing. Apart from the ID_ealian website being down, there's NOTHING. I guess I trusted them too much, huh... T_T And it's already time for them to close down the store for the day. 07:28 PM Seoul time.

    29. Well I have ordered two of them, so I am waiting for a refound, of course. There is no other resolution possibile about it.
Anyway still no email or any other kind of message about it.

    30. -___- I think its more wank that they released him for sale before they were REALLY sure than it is that they cancelled the sale. I agree its BETTER that they do this than release a doll with a terrible flaw, but frankly they're going to completely collapse upon themselves as a company and fast if they dont keep trying to grow faster than they can manage. Its not bad to be ambitious...its bad to be overly ambitious. And customers have put up with a lot of their irresponsible crud and gritted their teeth and bared it for the sake of beautiful dolls...but a lovely sculpt can only get you so far with bad business...

Come on soom get your act together before you commit social suicide. Nobody wants to see you pull serendipity and flush yourselves down the toilet...

    31. if they closed the sales they must have a good reason for it. and im sure they know the conseguences of theyr actions. but is not so bad at all, if they discovered a flaw in the doll, better now than later..

    32. Guys, don't get so angry. I very much doubt Soom is going to run away with your money or anything. They said they'll contact you, I wouldn't expect it to be right this minute. They emails will probably start coming over the next couple of days.

To me, it sounds like they've realised they just can't do it. And it's better for them to say that now rather then further down the line.

Or else, they've had so much negative feedback about the Idealian site/concept from everyone they got the impression that it really wasn't what we wanted at all. Or that they should be focusing on their MDs etc, and trying to make their websites work properly before getting yet another new line of dolls out. They've probably just taken on too much and are scaling back to better focus. Which is what many people have been telling them to do.

    33. Well...points for being up-front about it. Sucks majorly in the short-term for those who ordered, but I'm actually confident that Soom will make it good on the money front. I 100% understand the unhappy, when I couldn't find my orders on the new site, I had a major freakout. :(

I also think they're not abandoning the concept, I mean, come on, we're all here, right? ;) I'm wondering if it isn't something wholly out of the blue like Realskin Green or something. In which case, can't really blame them if it's a resin problem that cropped up, and kudos for not just muddling through, or delaying shipment for months on end.

While I totally feel a level of frustration about the whole thing, this actually, ironically, inspires some real confidence in me. Soom has a line, and they won't go beyond that. I hope that makes sense, but the idea that they won't go crazy and promise anything for a sale makes me feel better. :sweat

      .hlp

    34. I agree that it's better of them to be upfront about it. They REALLy need to take a deep breath and relax, too much rushing will lead to mistakes.

I also hope they re-evaluate what their concept for Idealian is and make the game an option for those who want to play it. I sincerely believe they will make MORE from this doll if he's a basic or FFD. I truly want one but in choosing between him and the very very limited doll I found in the marketplace, I went with the very limited one.

    35. this is more than odd....I'm the camp that says this is a resin issue. It's funny, when they were first releasing pics, I thought it was odd they would keep releasing so many dolls since ID seemed a HUGE project. I dunno, this doesn't look good for them, but we are much better off, i supposse. I would really love to know what prompted this. They did it AFTER it was released; i don't think i've ever heard of such a thing:o.

    36. Oh well... wallet saved yet again. I had been pondering, had decided no, but then saw his face and thought oh! I *like* that!

What an odd week this has been in general!

    37. I am disappointed, but I would much rather wait for a quality doll than be disappointed by a poor one.

I think these problems are probably due to unanticipated growth. I worked for a company that grew its staff 100% per year for ten years. At first it wasn't a problem, because the company was small (going from 5 to 10 employees is not so big a deal), but after the seventh year (350 employees) things began to fall apart and the company changed greatly from what its founders had in mind. It is not the same place anymore, and its vision is gone. It is hard to sustain growth while offering the same quality of goods and maintaining the culture and ideals of an organization. If this is what is going on with Soom, I give them a lot of credit for stepping back and taking a hard look, and having the guts to post that they made a mistake. It is hard to man up and admit that you have made a huge error. But it is so much better to admit it now than do the clean up later. I think also that companies feel an imperative to grow-- that growth at any cost is good. They don't realize that staying small and keeping your vision can be a good thing, even though profits may be less.

I think Soom is trying really hard to change. They were overwhelmed by the demand for monthly dolls and made a promise to get them out in a reasonable amount of time. Keeping that promise could be very costly to them. At this point, they have probably realized that their customers' patience (while legendary!) is wearing thin because of the past ridiculous delays, as well as because of the dramatic change in their website. I think they realized a delay or quality issue with Idealian would be a nail in their coffin. They can't afford green resin or any of the structural issues that could result from a new sculpt, stringing system, face plate system, etc.

I really hope they haven't scrapped idealian, however. I guess the only good news is that this way I'll have more time to save for him.

    38. :...( Well fizzleplats. There goes my Christmas present of the tall hunky brainy type. Oh well, rather have them do it this way on delay rather than end up with something that doesn't work right (brain breakage due to string stress, resin go goofy colors). Maybe on the next go round they'll release him in more than the one color. I'm prepared to wait and give them a chance; after all this is a vampire with a brain that we're talking about. :D

    39. I'm used to disappointments..but not THIS kind of disappointment. I was looking forward to that doll. I wanted him something badly. :(

On a different note, I fully expect to be paid back in full what I spent, and if paypal fees get docked from me, I want soom to refund those.

Does anyone know if theyre going to be releasing him in the future? Why would they go so far with it to not release him?

    40. Aww that is a disappointment :(
Still, in a way I'm glad. I can save up now and hopefully they'll be releasing him when they are less busy, less likely to make mistakes and have less painfully long waiting times. One of my fears with this doll was that they would rush them and it would be $1000 down the drain if it came home defective. That would be awful.
I'm certain all you guys who've already ordered will get your money back :) Soom are a respectable company.

    41. Gutted. Just gutted. I don't want my money back. I want my beautiful boy....wail :(

    42. I am so relieved that my interest shifted away from this doll.

I feel really bad for those of you who have already ordered him. I really hope Soom makes this right for you.

    43. I can't believe I saved so much money up for him and right now when I went to go buy him he isn't for sale anymore :...( My ladies need a big strong man around the house.

    44. I don't really follow this thread much, except for pictures and new information. Hearing the news of SOOM discontinuing this guy makes me feel really sad, for both people who ordered, and the company, and people who would love to get this guy in the future.

---this is just on a side---While I'm taken by Iple's new EID Model body, i think that Soom's ID_elean [is it spelled this way?] has its own strengths and uniqueness when compared to iple's body. This aside, i do believe that this guy was pretty promising, and the face sculpt could show diversity [and more manliness, just without the pretty lips painted such and the wig, just could've divulged into more personalities, depending on whoever owned him would like him to be] and same for the body as well.

Althoug I was quite taken aback presentation and marketing-wise, [pretty much smirking over 'bob' though] somehow radical imo, but really, besides people's reactions, if someone liked the guy, they will get him nonetheless, even if they think all of what was said was rather silly.

I hope that they are just going to reformat his presentation and sell him in the future, if not as an MD or FFD, then perhaps as a regular line.

SOOM shouldn't be so sensitive all the time about what people say about a sculpt and instead go forth with something, as planned, because hey, it's a real downer for the people who spent time and effort on something they created and were really looking forward to be released

    45. Wow, epic fail SOOM, epic fail........ But I'm kind of glad they did this, even though there are people who have ordered the doll and would still like to get him. It shows (to me at least) that SOOM wishes to keep up their standards and not let greedy doll selling get in the way of that.

Sorry to those who ordered. I hope everything gets resolved very soon!

    46. At least they stepped up to the plate and admitted they found errors on the doll before they decided to produce them and then everyone would have been even more pissed off on further delays and such. IF and when they do release him, all the errors or mistakes will be corrected. Also hopefully everyone will be able to get him and not jump thru hoops or a million questions just to get him either.

    47. This is really sad news. I was going to be ordering him tomorrow when I get paid.

I was so excited to see a vampire from them! And I love those fangs! (Ahem, yes, that is narcissism on my part but I've never seen that kind on a doll before. ;) )

Let's try not to get too disappointed before we see what they'll do, guys. I know I'm still interested in this doll, and I doubt any of us would be distressed by this news if we weren't, too.

Dear Soom: good luck with this product line in the future. I hope you don't abandon it. While the web site requirements and some of the store policies were not the best, in my opinion, the doll was and is wonderful and well worth the asking price. (And the doll is the important part!)

    48. I don't think it has anything to do with what people are saying :sweat
It's more likely that they are so rushed off their feet with MD orders and regular orders and they perhaps got a little ahead of themselves when they released Idealian. I'm pretty sure they just can't cope with all these orders and are probably struggling to find the materials quick enough to produce the dolls. The wait times are really bad right now and they also have a policy of compensating people who have been waiting more than 100 days for an order to ship. I imagine that costs them quite a lot of money and leaves a lot of customers unhappy.
They do say that they will be bringing him back eventually, I wonder if the whole concept will be resurrected with him? Will there still be restricted admission? Will those of us who already have admission have to reapply?

    49. Well, it explains why they disabled the ability to create Admission request post........

    50. That policy will not have kicked in yet, though. The first dolls it applied to were Bygg&Beyla (I think, it may actually be dolls after them). 100 business days -- and it is business days -- haven't passed since that time for it to have started affecting anything directly just yet for it to cost them anything... yet.

They've managed to get a lot of the Chroms out quickly, which may have been a 'dry run' to see if it was possible to ship quickly on a high-selling item (he sold well to DoAers at least) within a certain time frame. (The policy doesn't apply to him.)

    51. Some of my friends were compensated for the long wait for their MD's with free gift's a few months ago. I think thats going to be expensive if they have to do that for more orders.
I still think that they simply can't handle all these orders and are worried that the quality of the doll will be affected, especially a doll that has such an amazingly high amount of detail. I have already heard many people complaining that the MD's seem rushed. Maybe they don't want a repeat of that?
We can but hope they offer a more detailed explanation in the future.

    52. If they cant handle the orders then why develop this doll to begin with? I'm irritated. They new they were over their heads to begin with. ::Frustrated::

    53. i'm dying to see what he looks like.. did anyone save any pictures of him?

    54. Uh, because maybe they thought that they would be able to handle it, but then realised that they can't and pulled the sale before they further disappointed customers? :\

Sometimes companies just have plans that are too large to fit into their current schedules, and they don't realise it until they try to implement said plans.

I think it's good that they stopped before they really got in over their heads.

Would it have been better if they tried, and failed, to continue with the sale? I think their customers would have been disappointed and really pissed off. Now, they're only disappointed, but there's still hope. It's not like they're pulling the plug on the project completely.

      So...chill? ^^;;;

    55. I guess they're only human? I figure that what they mean by "But we are pressed for time to release it with shortage of goods." is that they got ahead of themselves and just couldn't find the time or the materials to produce the doll as planed. Rather than rush the dolls and risk disappointment they'd be better off delaying its release.
It's only my guess, I could be wrong. It just seems the most likely thing to me. Unfortunately the explanation on their website is so vague. It's really hard to say what the problem actually is.
I'm sure whatever the reason it must be very a very good one :)

Indeed^^ No use getting worked up about it now. This isn't the last we've seen of him ;)

    56. I think Soom really needs to hire someone proficient in English. Jin Lee is a wonderful person, but the engrish is still kinda confusing at times. :C I think someone hired specifically for the purpose of communicating in English would help smooth out a lot of their international problems.

    57. Angela_Valentine, if you go back through this thread there were several pictures posted of him.

    58. Aww, I'm so sorry for all you folks that have already ordered him or had your heart set on it. :( ((hugs)) That is really weird to release a doll and then un-release it . . . don't see that very often! :? One would assume that Soom had a good reason for it though, they clearly know something we don't about "behind-the-scenes" issues.

Hopefully the release delay will save a lot of trouble, and the Idealian will have a smooth and efficient release when he actually is released. :daisy

    59. I was about to order but something told me to hold off for more answers and now this! I'm kinda relieved in a way but I do still want him. I hope they wait until they can get the dolls made and shipping under control before bringing out more things.
