All of the Zak associated goodies that I ordered (Spring Rain clothing, wig, shoes and hands) are on their way home - including the LE Magnolia coat - so that should be very encouraging for everyone who ordered the actual doll. Not much longer to wait!

 

I already have my Zak outfits and shoes! I didn't get any hands.

 

LOL, as poor @AubreyMeeksArt can attest, hands will hold everything up! Which outfits did you get? I'm looking forward to seeing the Cherry Blossom set in person...it looks so nicely made in the promo photos.

 

I got Cherry Blossom, Spring Rain, and the coat. They all look great! I want to get the guys out to try them on!

 

Oh, I got the Zak spring rain jointed hands and they shipped on the 15th. ^^
I actually just assembled them today, my first time even seeing jointed hands in person. It was a bit of an adventure (I ran out of elastic and I had to go to the fabric store to find more.... and I thankfully found the exact same elastic) but I managed to get them completed eventually. I had great fun though just posing and playing with them after.

 

Okay, now I just feel left out, lol. Good job @keelerleah - I'm a little nervous about assembling jointed hands, since it'll be my first time attempting it too! (But what...wait...they didn't send enough elastic??)

@nancy_schroeder_ca I thought about getting Spring Rain, decided the blue wouldn't suit my guy, and have regretted it ever since...oops! So happy for you that you went all out on the clothing - I hope that if you take any pics you'll share, if it's not too much of a pain. My poor boy is currently headless and missing an upper arm, as they are both sitting in Angel Toast's PO box, waiting to be blushed. I don't suppose he'll be whole until July...so no modeling session for me for quite awhile. BUT...I am itching to see those clothes on an ID - especially the Cherry Blossom, and the regrettably passed Spring Rain! ^^

 

@celga I may have been a bit generous with the ends of the elastic (when you tie the knot after stringing the fingers on). Probably if I would have been a bit more careful I likely would have had enough. It's not all that hard really to assemble them. The instructions are really clear and I didn't have any issues with the hands themselves. For me, the hardest thing was getting them on my guy. I had to do it myself, and his elastics are really tight.

 

@keelerleah Thank you very much for sharing that - I'll try to be stingy when I'm tying off the knots! I just have to keep reminding myself of how terrified I used to be of restringing a doll...and now it's pretty much the first thing I do when I get a new one. I know I can do this, I'm just a bit nervous about trying it for the first time. ^^

Actually it's tagged ID75M. I would guess that means male. I find the Korean companies will frequently use names that usually go with the opposite sex. Although astronaut Owen K Garriott's middle name was Kay.

A sailor suit would be cool! I'm so glad they now list clothes separately!

 

I wonder what it would take to get them to offer clothes regularly. Or at least bring back bi-weekly clothes sales. The few pieces of clothing I have from them are so nicely made.

 

Since they are offering multiple outfits with doll releases, I think we are actually getting more choices than we did before. And definitely more standard "street" clothes.

I do agree that Soom's outfits are awesome!

 

It makes me so happy that they've started doing that! I still wish that they would keep some basic items available, like jeans, shoes, boots, that sort of thing...but it's nice that there are clothing choices even for people who are not buying the current doll.

'Marine' could be several things, like a casual day of sailing (which is kind of what the itty-bitty boat in the picture looks like to me), a basic sailorish kind of thing, or even the ROK Marines, which is all toughness and camouflage. I'm so curious as to what direction they're going this time!

 

Stacy's Pink Ocean has added some shoes and boots for ID72 guys! I haven't ordered any yet, but it is a good sign!

With Google I found a number of definitions that would be reasonable but this may be the best I have seen:

In Hawaiian, kai means "ocean" or "ocean water".

There has already been a River.

 

The stacys pink ocean shoes are great, but double the price you can get them for through Taobao, so if you're experienced with that I would order there instead and save a few bucks .

Everytime I hear Kay I think of ringdoll . But definitely excited to see another new sculpt!! They've really ramped up their output of new faces for Idealian! It's awesome

His hat also looks interesting. I didn't really see any labels anywhere to indicate that it's Kay or his clothing, but I guess it would be quite a coincidence if it's not. She has more pictures of her corgi than anything else - but she does focus on Soom sometimes.

@Serdtse I completely missed your post! Congrats on the homecoming - I hope you love him!

 

@celga Thanks! I love them both. Now to decide who gets the ID75 body and the ID72.
Keep us posted when you get the outfits. I gave myself the task of sewing , making wigs, and painting their face, so I will be having lots of fun bonding with these boys in the next few months.

Same here! I liked the direction they were going with issuing actual new sculpts instead of recycling old ones-- as much as I like the old ones.

I wish Soom could do a comparison photo of Dia and Kay, to see if there's any difference in the sculpt. Maybe Kay's head is a tad bigger?

And I think the same as Tangmalangaloo, I love Dia but he looks very boyish in the idealian body.

 

Ah, thank you! I'm really not familiar with most of the Gems, so I had to go and look her up. There certainly is a lot of similarity in the mouth.

I really think he's cute, but just too young for an ID. One of the reasons I go for the big boys is that they lend themselves well to more mature sculpts. Then again, there may be people out there who love the more childish aesthetic, but want something bigger than an msd or sd. Anyway, I'm definitely safe this time around!

 

Dia is a popular Supergem sculpt. I think Kay may be Dia's older brother. Not the same but a strong family resemblance.

Zinc was actually an ID 51 that was released on the Gem site as a centaur. As was Hornblend. Neither comes up on a search now! I'm glad I got my Hornblend centaur!

 

Kay is very handsome, and I love the uniform, kinda reminds me of my hubby's Navy uniform.............love a man in uniform.

 

Basic hands are included. The separate ones are different hands.

Man if they ever made an ID version of Heliot that'd be the end of me...

 

Idealian studio did say that Kay was Dia's older brother on IG XD. Everyone sort of jumped on them about the face sculpt being the same.

I doubt the head sizes are the same between ID75 Kay and SG Dia. The neck sizes are definitely different and they would need to mod the inside of the head to accommodate the brain mechanism. Unless, of course, they just turned the Dia head into a faceplate to put on the existing ID headback.

 

Just to add to the Dia discussion. Dia was originally a rehash/variation of Sard. Dia used to be sold as a standard, back when Soom had those, and Sard had been a limited doll, that ended up being really popular, and people kept asking Soom if they'd re-release him. They declined and instead created Dia.

Wait I thought Dia came before Sard as a female sculpt? I know Sard was '08, '09 release as one of their first fantasy MD dolls, but I had originally thought Dia was before him as a Gem model .

I keep calling Kay Sard though XD. Have to keep telling myself it's There are no elf ears so it's a Dia

 

@dragonofl5 It's possible. I wasn't in the hobby when either of them released, but my impression, back when people actually talked about them was that Dia came after Sard, and was one of the reasons there were so many male Dia's, because she resembled Sard.

 

@Cloudedmind Had to look it up, it was bothering me. Dia was released as a female in 2007 (its in the fine print of her last product photo). Night Odyssey Sard was released May 2008 as an MD doll. But you're right about the huge influx of Male Dias XD. I think people bought standard Dia on the male body (because you could request they send her with a male body instead, when she was available to order) after Sard sold out because he's seriously one of their most gorgeous faces. Him and Heliot had just come out when I came into the hobby and I've always wanted one since.

Soom just knows his face sells really well, so it's almost not surprising to see him as an ID72/75 now. Similar concept to re-releasing Hyperon a bunch of times.

I wish, instead of scaling up Dia into ID75, they had instead moved to make some Mecha Angel sculpts available again as either super gem or ID sizes. They had a small release of Sabik, but I would love to see Antares come back. He's incredibly rare and I've never seen an owner photo of him.

 

@dragonofl5 If you're referring to the copyright date, Sards has the same 2007, and we know for a fact he was released in 2008. That's not to say she wasn't released below. I just don't think we can use that as a valid clue.

 

Hm you're right. sorry I didn't see that! The comments start in '09 so you're probably right about her being released afterward.

 

@dragonofl5 Oh! Found something. I just checked Dia's database thread /threads/diamond-soom-dia-database.219320/, and someone mentioned receiving Dia May of 08. Sard didn't go up for sale until then. I don't know what Soom's turn around times were back then, but I can imagine she must have been up for order weeks if not months before May of 08 for someone to receive her then.

 

We should be investigators or something XD. I hadn't thought to look for the database threads! Super handy, DOA!

Is anyone considering ordering Kay?

 

I feel pretty sure that Dia came before Sard. I remember when she was released, I thought she would make THE most beautiful boy, and lots of people commented the same thing XD Then Sard was released... Soom clearly knew what was up, LOL.

Add me to the list of people who want a Dia vs Kay comparison. They may be exactly the same face-wise, but something seems a little different to me. I think it's the lips or cheeks. If Soom shows a comparison photo and they are identical, I might be in trouble... I sold my old SG Dia and I miss him. One of my problems with him was the Super Gem body sooo... eep. XD

 

If they're not the same, it's really hard to pinpoint how. Here's Kay with a regular and an R version of Dia:
