*:* Soom Idealian 72cm Discussion Part VI *:*

Dec 8, 2015

    1. I think they are asking us to check the certificate for dolls you are buying on the secondary market.

    2. Yeah, I guess that's what they meant. When I bought my R.Hyperon second hand, I was able to check the CoA number on their website, and it gave me the user name of the original buyer and date of the order.

On the other hand, I remember reading that one horror story about a girl who bought a Soom option head second hand and was given a "copy on the CoA" (since the "real" CoA was supposed to be gone with the full doll) but when she checked the number on Soom's Website, it was for a completely different doll :/ (and that's why, folks, we don't show clear CoA pictures D: ) I wish more companies did separate CoA for head / body...

BTW, when you check a CoA number on Soom's website, they appear to have different databases for each region. Checking for my Hyperon's certificate tunrned up nothing on the European Website (the panic!), but I did find a match on the US website (so I suppose he was bought from the US website).

      • x 2
    3. Soom does make mistakes in entering certificates in their database. At least they were. I hope they are doing better now that there are so many recasts now. I haven't gotten a bad one in a while.

    4. When we received our Photon second hand his COA wouldn't come up in the database for the US, but it's a good point, we probably should have checked the EU database since he came from overseas. We messaged Soom and they fixed it for us so he shows up in the databases now, at least.

Zak is pretty handsome but I'm cringing at the $870 price tag for tawny :/. I wish Soom offered some sort of limited time discount or something. Like an early bird special!

    5. @celga thank you for your sympathy. I was devistated when I picked him up off the floor and saw the tip of his ear was missing. I guess it could have been worse and I'm greatful it wasn't his nose. I won't be trying new wigs on his head until I get that magnet sticking out of his faceplate more secure. Now I know I prefer a headcap to a faceplate.

@nancy_schroeder_ca Please spam us photos of your Narmer in his gorgeous new suit when he gets home safely to you? Is zap a gap good for resin? Is it like regular super glue?

@dragonofl5 thank you for your sympathy. Will these be your first Soom jointed hands? They will be for me. Where is the price tag ? He isn't up yet on the site.?

    6. @Serdtse I checked the Hoffman's toybox website where they first showed him at the show, and they showed the normal price tags there. That and their new ID75 boys typically run the same prices, so around $800 for NS/WS and around $870 for tawny.

They will be our first jointed hands :D. We ordered them for our Hyperon, so hopefully ours will ship soon since they said 2 weeks for production time.

    7. Who said he will be more then 800 Bugs?
If he is realy more then 800 then I dont realy understand why,
Narmer for example was 720 or something like this....and Garion was in normal skin also 755 or something like that.

What I noticed when I bought Adonis is that when time pas the dolls get more expensive per sold doll....I hope you understand what I am trying to say. Every time a soom doll gets sold the price increases. *_*

    8. @Shitachi if you look at the website again you will see that Narmer and York were 820$ and Garion was 960.$

I have NS for my Hyperon and I might have to do my own face up to get tawny.., but it doesn't seem to me like the tawny is that much darker.., maybe the NS is lighter now?

    9. Ok I did a mistake. I am in europe.....So the price is in euro. :sweat
In europe it was roun about 750 and 720 Euros.

    10. I use zap-a-gap to glue in magnets, assemble kit bodies and make repairs. Whatever glue you choose, use it very sparingly. Put some on a piece of paper or card and apply just a bit with a toothpick. You don't want the glue to ooze out! Gloves are a good idea so you don't get stuck to the project!

You could also use something like Aleene's tacky glue which is water soluble if you make a mistake.

    11. @Nonexistent CONGRATS on Narmer, he is so handsome ! I ordered mine in Bronze , one more payment and he is mine lol
I did screw up and was thinking the jointed hands came with him , DUH on me, they were optional so I missed out lol
I will get them eventually !!

    12. @Shitachi I agree XD. It seems every few months the next doll is bumped up by $20 or $30. But I understand the need to increase prices for raising material costs and labor and such. I think the inflation is worse for Super Gems, since they used to be 5-600 originally and are now running much closer to $700 for a blank doll @.@

    13. This romantic eyed version of Zak is truly handsome, wonder how much he will be? Kind of sad that it seems the price of the new ID's cost more if it is due to the height of the new bodies.

      • x 1
    14. I gues the prices go up because of all that f***ing Recasts :vein
Sorry for that word....But it realy is frustratig......I mean .....
they are not only dolls but artworks that were made out of time blood and tears!

It makes me so sad that a company has to bag their customers to buy legit dolls .....it should be natural that we respect their art!

      Sorry for that Rambeling....

      • x 1
    15. I'm annoyed that ebay won't do more to remove recasts.

The additional costs may be partially due to the development costs of creating the new body.

    16. Aw man this is bad with re-casts then, yea I was so hoping to get him, but I really need another Mini size in my collection, so......I have to save some money that way. For those that do get this handsome version of Zak do spam him, he is truly handsome.

    17. Thanks for the advise, I will be cautious.., I'm taking my time to fix it.., I have to channel my patience first!:?
I agree about production cost of the new body, if you think about the process of creating a new mold and then casting it?.., that's a lot of people to pay, and with others stealing from the artists , they must have to compensate the artist somehow? They should give their loyal customers a better discount than just points.

    18. The points system is nice, it definitely has saved me a good chunk of money on a doll or two!

Zak was slightly discounted for the Hoffman's Toy Box show, it would be nice to get a chance to buy one at a discount. OR to have the option of an X-mas style kit! They're easier on the wallet and the dolls aren't that hard to string together when you have two sets of hands.

@Shitachi It's alright to be angry about recasts! But I doubt their prices are due to the recast productions.

Personally I've always been really curious about the team behind Soom's various lines. We never really get to know who sculpted which doll or even what their company is like in terms of how large or small they are. I always imagine Soom has a ton of sculptors and clothing designers who collaborate with casting/clothing companies.

    19. I am new to this hobby so please someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm assuming that Soom is as big or close to the same as iplehouse? Yet their dolls don't get recast as much? I'm sorry But I don't see iplehouse give warnings about recasts lately? Does it happen more when a new body or sculpt is more in demand?

    20. I think Iplehouse is bigger but they have had messages about recasts in the past. I think it is more often the sold out but still in demand dolls that get recast. I saw a listing on ebay the other day that used pictures of a ID72 but the description said it was an 18cm doll!

    21. My Gluino aarrrrived @_@

I need to give him a decent wig and give him metallic eyes before he makes his official debuet though XD
Will EID clothes fit him? I actually have an EID myself but taking off his stock outfit to test if his shirt fits is not worth the $30 bucks just to buy it blindly and see XD

      • x 1
    22. Congrats on the arrival @Tagi! Gluino's are so lovely <3. I believe some EID clothes do fit ID72, but I personally don't own any Iple dolls. Somewhere in this thread, someone has asked this question before....you might have to flip back 10 pages or so.

In terms of recasting, both Soom and Iple are about the same I would say with their dolls being recasted. Soom's Sard, Dia, Hyperon and Gluino are typically the most popular while Iple's EID women and men, along with some JIDs are recasted. It's usually really easy to tell the difference, because the recasters can't get the resin colors correct, so any tan Iple or soom usually looks too brown or too orange.

    23. Most of my EIDs' wardrobe fits my ID72 guys, and vice versa. Snug pants with no stretch in the fabric may not fit the Idealians as they have larger thighs, but the waists and length generally work.

What shirt would you like to know about? I may have it or something like it...

    24. @Tagi Congrats on your boy ^^
Gluino and York are my favorite Soom dolls

If I would be rich I ques that I would own all Idealian sculpts :sweat
They are so handsome and I love the dreamy eyes of Soom dolls :love

    25. EID tops fit fine. Sometimes it is better to get the super hero size in pants, but Iplehouse's fit varies from style to style.

But the exciting news: my Narmer has shipped!

      • x 4
    26. @Tagi Congrats on your new guy! I have a few EID clothes and they all fit pretty okay. Although there's one pair of pants (from the basic set, I think?) that won't close. (Easily hidden with an untucked shirt, haha)

      @nancy_schroeder_ca Congrats!

    27. Zak is UP for sale!! You get to pick a 72 or a 75. I think both of them make a nice couple! If not best friends.

Its a shame all the clothes are for 75 and no 72.

    28. Perfect timing Soom!! Today is my Birthday and I was blessed with 2 beautiful gifts from Soom!
      I received my jointed hands:

And I ordered Zak ID75 Both heads!! I really wanted Zak in tawny but I gave my Hyperon the SD TZ75 body,
so I really needed another head for my ID72 body in NS, so it worked out perfectly! :aheartbea

      • x 2
    29. Congratulations! That sounds like a wonderful birthday!

      • x 1
    30. Happy birthday Serdtse!

I'm debating whether or not I should order the clothes from Soom for him or try to find my own. It would be nice to have something guaranteed to fit the 75 body, but I'm not a fan of suits. Looking at Iplehouse looks like it will fit but be too short on the arms and legs, so I'm unsure what to do there. Not sure where else to go to find them. It's like finding clothes for my Venitu all over again - I can feel the headache coming on xD

Wondering which head I should get because they're both similar, but I love R types. Ugh my poor wallet.

Also, am I just blind or does anyone know what the extra item is? Is it the jewelry? I'm confused @_@

    31. Thank You<3

      Thank You<3
You might try Soul Doll? They have clothes for
TZ 75 body or you might be able to get custom size for pants and shirts from Alice Collections?

The extra item says parts blushing? When you look at the bottom of his description, maybe hands blushing?

Yes the optional parts are hands! Does that mean they don't include hands at all unless I choose them?!

    32. I think the optional parts are bjd hands otherwise they will give you normal hands.

Its a pity they dont brush the hands if you buy separately. I just want the hands!

      so is the earrings included?

Can someone please tell me if the wig style are the same? Looks like the black wig styled differently to the other color.

    33. Happy birthday @Serdtse !! :smallcake Big congrats on the incoming Zak...and those great hands. (I'm curious how easy/difficult they are to string!)

@Tangmalangaloo The wigs are cut the same, but are styled differently. They're heat resistant, so a blow dryer and a brush can create a lot of looks. I doubt that either one will come out of the package looking exactly like the pictures.

*Sigh* I need some, if not all, of the new clothes, since they are perfect for my guy's character. So hey, here's my wallet, Soom...feel free to open it up and just help yourself...

    34. Thank you<3 @celga I will let you know when I get around to it.;)

I'm still confused about the optional parts?
      IDM-H 35$ and IDM-H blushing 57$
If the jointed hands ? are 57$ for blushing then
      What is the 35$ option?

    35. I think IDM-H10 is another style of non-jointed hands. If you want them blushed, it would be $57, $35 for the hands and $22 for the blushing.

The jointed hands are not listed in the items included. They are available as a separate item as a KIT for $178.

    36. Wow...the magnolia coat is already sold out? That was quick!

The notice popout is becoming a pain...they don't need to put the notice on every click.

    37. If you click the box at the bottom of notice, it won't show up again.

      • x 1
    38. After some Googling and reading old posts it looks like the IDM-H10 parts are indeed hands. If you go back to the Christmas release of York, you can see the style in the last picture. I wonder if they are the same hands or if they changed them for the new body, but they're labeled the same. Either way, they're priced like hands. So they're definitely extra hands.

Side note: I asked ACBJD what companies they have that do custom sizing and they directed me here - Custom Size : Alice's Collections

Most of these places make pretty awesome clothing, I've ordered from some of them. So yay! No needing to buy the suit for me!

    39. Stupid question, which head is which or am I missing something since I'm on mobile?

    40. They do look really similar. I wish Soom would post wigless head-on shots so we can see the details and faceup. I'm sure if we ask they will. The ones with the blue coat are the normal, the rest are romantic head.... from what I've gathered

    41. If you look at the eye page, you can see the difference between both heads better.

    42. The romantic head would be the one with slightly closed eyes. The basic head is the one with more open eyes. The romantic head is the one on home page.

    43. As for the earrings, he won't come with pierced ears or earrings. Happy belated birthday btw!

    44. @dragonofl5 Thank You!<3

Here they are! My first Soom BJD hands.

After some time stringing them by following the picture diagram and taking out the finger parts separately from the designated plastic..I came across 2 finger parts that were misplaced, one on each hand. At first
I was worried that I would have to modify the parts to fit correctly but Im glad I recognized the mistake in packaging and adjusted the fingers accordingly. You will need some hemostats, tweezers, maybe a diamond hand file, magnifying glasses and some patience! I absolutely love them and they are worth every penny!:aheartbea

    46. You did an amazing job - they look fabulous! <3 Do they hold poses well, or would they benefit from wiring?

@Shitachi He's very handsome! Do you have plans for his faceup yet?

    47. Gorgeous Adonis @Shitachi! Congratulations on the arrival!

@Serdtse the hands look great! Makes me really excited to get ours XD

    48. @celga Thanks ^^ . I will do his face up when the weather in germany gets better. I love to do face ups :whee:

      @dragonofl5 Thank you! I appreciate it ^.^

    49. Thank You<3 @Shitachi Your Adonis is beautiful even blank. I really like his sweater too! Thats great that you love to do face ups! I get too self critical before Im satisfied and It gives me headaches Lol.

@celga Thanks<3 They do hold poses well, It depends on how they are strung.
Soom gives enough elastic to string three hands! but I needed it because I kept cutting off the fuzzy tip to pull it out of the tiny holes in the fingers. I might want to wire them after testing them out on a body.

@dragonofl5 Did you get the Narmer long nail hands too? I can't wait to blush them. But I have too many other parts waiting for me to airbrush.

      • x 1
    50. @Serdtse No, we ordered separate regular hands for our Hyperon through their awesome customer service ^.^

    51. I'm really glad to hear that! I'd been debating whether or not to get them since they're so pricey...but I caved and grabbed some yesterday at the same time I bought the Magnolia coat when it briefly lost its 'sold out' banner (and the Cherry Blossom set...and the shoes...and the wig...) because yes, I am convinced that there is a perfectly reasonable justification for impulsively buying stuff buried in the fact that it's limited. Or maybe not. :XD: Anyway, I just hope I can do as good a job at stringing them as you did! And I may add wire while I'm at it, but that depends on how brave I'm feeling. I don't even know what kind to get, because those fingers are so tiny...

      @Shitachi He's such a lovely sculpt - I hope you'll show him off when you're done! :D

    52. @dragonofl5 I love the customer service too, they added a pair of horns on my FCE order after I missed the deadline. Let us know how you like them when you get them!

@celga You won't regret getting the jointed hands, they are worth it! And I'm sure you will do a great job stringing them, I would be glad to help if you need it:XD:
If I didn't just recently splurge on a serger I would be getting the magnolia coat too.
As someone who knows how to sew, I can appreciate great quality sewing!

    53. Thank-you @dragonofl5, @Shitachi and @Embracing Sky

I ended up buying the billowy white iple shirt to try to save his stock one and the black shirt with the bits that wrap around the wrists? That one is for my Hyperon because he has been in the same biweekly get up for a long time and he deserves a change.

I also have new metallic eyes and a new wig on order... Can't wait for it all to get here so I can start taking pictures in ernest. I have a crappy iphone picture of him in a temp wig next to my Hyperon which I have posted to a local doll group but I'm not sure he would appreciate me posting it to the entire interweb >_>

    54. @Serdtse thank you very much for uploading pictures of jointed hands as well as other information.
I'm also thinking about to order and my Reiji definitely needs them LOL.
It's difficult to find good jointed hands, isn't it? got already two pairs (in different sizes) from other makers but as they are not functionally so good, rarely use them...shame.

    55. I love Soom's jointed hands!

    56. Your Welcome<3@Clementia
I only have one other pair of jointed hands from Doll Legend and I never used them.
Now that I have Soom's jointed hands, I regret not getting them the first time!
A beautiful doll like your Reiji should have beautiful Soom jointed hands:D

    57. Clementia, your doll is gorgeous!!
Serdtse, thanks for posting so much info about the jointed hands. I've been on the fence about getting a pair for my Hyperon, and I think now I finally will (or when I can afford it... hopefully before this current pre-order closes). It was just the idea of having to string them myself that had me a bit uneasy.

    58. Your welcome<3@keelerleah
I was worried about stringing them myself at first too but once I set up with my tweezers, magnifying glass, and some uninterrupted free time, I just followed the easy picture diagrams and then I got the hang of it. I hope you can get yours too!

    59. Oo, how do you like your serger? I haven't sewn in years, but I used to do a lot of it - and my dolls got me thinking that it's about time to get back to it. But when I started looking at machines, I was paralyzed by the number of choices - including serger vs standard sewing machine...so I ended up buying nothing at all. :XD:
