Soom Idealian 72cm Discussion Part 9

Sep 24, 2019

    1. I was thinking, how does the brain generally work? I believe it is like an S hook. But when you need to remove the head due to putting clothes on, is it easy? From what I see I would be afraid of the cord slipping. :nowords:

    2. It's very easy to remove the head to me personally. Most of the time you can just pop out the faceplate (since the backplate is the one holding the brain and the tension) if the outfit's neckhole is too small to go over the whole head. The brain sits very nicely on the backplate. It is sculpted it a way that the upper skull area is more hollow to allow you to slot half the brain in. It's quite well engineered I find (unlike their body's posing ability *cough - cough*)

    3. If it's enough to just remove the faceplate, then it's easy. Like the above said, the brain sits on the back of the head and you don't have to touch it if you don't have to remove the whole head. However, if you do have to get rid of the whole thing, it's a whole another story. You have to slot your fingers under the brain and pull and lift it and hope that it doesn't pull away from you (need quite a bit of finger strength) because the cord will make the brain snap down. I also find the neck part of the headback much too thin for a doll of this size. I broke my headback because of this design: I thought I had a good grip on the brain but the back of it slipped down and snapped the neck bit into two pieces. I dont' find the design very good and I really wish they used an S hook that you could use a tool with. With the brain you just can't because even to get it on the head you need to lift and then push it into the headback at an angle. And since the body needs quite a bit of thick string and a lot of tension it's generally not easy, unless you're very strong. From now on, whenever I have to remove the whole head, I'll let the string go from the feet first to avoid the high tension on the head, which imo is a bit too much trouble just to get a head off. I mean the design is very cool looking and unique, but I just don't think it's practical.
I imagine most people don't need to remove the whole head very often, though, so then it's fine.

    4. I had a hard time with the brain the first doll I got, but my most recent boy, Hyun was very easy. Curious if others are also finding this easier. I typically swap my floating heads but because of the brain I don’t. However, some people switch to an S hook. I figure I can do that if I want to swap heads more easily. So far I have left the brain.

    5. @Yenna That seems a bit scary to be honest. On the other hand I don’t think that it will prevent me from buying Soom once. So hopefully when the time comes I will be able to operate this.

    6. Ah, thanks so much for all that information @Yenna
It's a lot of what I had feared looking at the brain...:sweat
My goal is to not touch it. Lol! But it's good to know that unstringing from the feet helps as that was my gut guess.

    7. Yeah, you also have to lift the brain quite high -much higher than you'd have to pull an S hook normally, and the tension is pretty tight, so you already need some strength for that. The front slot for the string isn't even completely in the middle so first you need to move the brain sideways into the slot, then lift and then push . And it's the first thing you need to do cause the Idealians come with the head packaged separately. Luckily Soom replaced the headback for me when I wrote to them. I wasn't really expecting a replacement part (glued the broken one with epoxy and it seems to hold pretty well), I just wanted to let them know that I do think this is a design flaw and they might want to re-think some parts of that. I'm sure a lot of people find the brain cool and it's a selling point but it's just not practical.

    8. I never have had trouble putting the brain in for my Idealians. I actually like it better than S hooks because I can do it with my hands, whereas for S hooks, I have to use tools. Maybe a lot of the trouble has to do with how tightly he’s strung? But a lot of my Idealians are newer, so maybe they’re just easier, like @Mahgiep mentioned earlier.

    9. Hi all, I am a long time silent reader on here LOL.

It is so good to see many senior members and new members interactive conversation here. I have visited this thread countless of times and I read through each responded, all I can say is that you all are fill with good thoughts and care toward each other and that made me smile.

**on side note, my Hyun is on shipping. The first thing I will do once he is home, yes, see if his brain fit. This sounds very unattractive and it made me feel like I am a Zombie/Undead that have interested in body’s part. LOL

    10. Guys is there any major difference between Idealian 72 and 75? Poseability? Look? Type of something? Or is it simply just the height?

    11. Did anyone else get the Allegro outfit and boots? It looks so nice :).

      • x 1
    12. Agreed! I hope some people here managed to nab one. :thumbup I would've been happy to, if I'd been quicker. I'm actually pretty tired of the limited to 20 sets thing. Sigh. It wouldn't be so bad if they had any basic clothing, but this just feels like a fight to the death for no reason. Other companies seem to manage even limited outfits in quantities of 80 or more, so what's the deal...?

Ah, well, I don't like to gripe too much; at least the dolls are gorgeous, even sitting around in the buff. ;)

    13. I did, I managed to get outfit and boots. Now I need to stay away from the computer because this boy is cute. I like that SOOM posted blank head for this release.

      • x 3
    14. Is it 20 dolls or 20 sets for fullset - face up, clothes etc.?

    15. @Hatsu It's 20 dolls with limited face-up and 20 limited outfits. You can still buy him blank during the sales period.

      • x 1
    16. @marci12 Ah, thank you.

Is this Allegro someone new as a face? Because they had “#idzak” on their IG post and I couldn’t find any other pictures of this guy anywhere.

    17. My new Hyun is driving me a bit crazy when I try to get him to stand (hips and knee collapse). He also twists his chest. Do people suede all these areas?

    18. Oh wow, I thought that only my Hyun giving me trouble. I am experiencing the same issue. I think I need to restringing him. Let’s me gather my courage. I think SOOM afraid that people may not be able to push the brain part to the head back and that is why he is so loose. So that associate with the issue they had with the brain broke when people tried to push it.
I am upset though, paying $$$ but still needs to do this kind of work. LOL

    19. @Lucid Walker that makes sense. When I bought Narmer his brain was so hard to get in. I can’t remember but it was at the point where you could injure yourself. He collapses at his hips too, but never twists and is much easier to balance for standing. I usually can figure out ways to tighten elastic without disassembly, but not today. I am expecting some heads and need to take some Valentine’s Day photos. Let me know if tightening helps!

    20. My Phonolus is so twisty too. His chest will twist forward and sideway like a grass in the wind. I haven't touched my Hyun much yet but I think he is better than my Phonolus. At least my ID72 just buckles around the knees... my ID75 are just twisting everywhere... utterly chaotic LOL
All in all... I don't trust my IDs to stand at all even with a stand support.

Also my tawny Hyun has a massive seamline running along his neck and shoulder. *cry* At least the others are not such glaringly in the face. T v T
Soom why you torture us so?

    21. I'm pretty certain he's a new head, but I was also confused by the zak tag XD

      • x 3
    22. I just finished restringing and tightening the elastic of my Hyun. I had to enlist the aid of my partner to get the brain back in place. So far the knees and hips continue to buckle but less severely and the twisting seems better as well. I may suede at another time but I’m pretty satisfied with the changes so far.

      • x 4
    23. Companies tend to string their dolls loose for shipping because they can break easier during shipping if they're very tightly strung. Also, the brain has to be lifted really high so it's very hard if he's already tight to begin with (and lifting the brain up will tighten the doll a bit). I personally always prefer loose stringing to tight. I've received a few dolls (not Soom) that were so tight I had to cut the string and then replace it all because I couldn't even pull a leg out enough to detach it and let the string go. You can always tighten the strings but not loosen.

I didn't have any leg buckling issue with my ID75 but I did suede his torso -mostly to protect the coating/body blushing from getting scratched, but the torso did seem a bit floppy. It's just how it's sculpted so adding a bit of friction should fix that.

    24. Just put in a layaway order for Allegro w/ the artist's faceup when I also have a Zak on layaway. This hurts. :')

      • x 5
    25. @mekirin Congratulations! I just don’t know whether to go for him or wait for Hyperon.

      • x 1
    26. I have a few of SOOM Idealian and never have any issue. Yes, they could not stand well or hold pose but only Hyun seem to be so loose that require attention. With ache and pain I have it will be a really difficult task for me to restringing him and I have no help. I hope that Hyun is the only one that I will have to tighten his elastic.

      • x 4
    27. I am almost done with my Hyun. He is missing (fancy) eyelashes.
Thanks to @Yenna and @Mahgiep for your message that I found my courage and tighten his elastic. Thank you!
Here is Sebastian and faceup by me:

    30. Thank you very much!

    31. Hey everyone! I just wanted to share that I finally got my boy! He will become my Final Fantasy XIV character. I love him so much and he is so huge! He is a ID75 Void. Also my very first male bjd and first bjd over 60cm. I can’t wait to customize him but his factory faceup is so beautiful so I will probably keep it for a while.

      • x 5
    32. @I-M-G-M Oh he’s handsome! I can see why you like the face up. That’s honestly my problem, I feel bad for wanting to wipe the company face up! *_*

    33. I think it is kind of funny that Soom got booty hurt over Granado's comparison photo of their two newest bodies compared to Idealian. They each have their own special aesthetics.

      • x 2
    34. Maybe with this, Soom will now start improving their Idealian's posing... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      • x 5
    35. It wasn’t a good look for Soom. Idealians are so popular and loved, so it wasn’t necessary at all. It kind of felt like them attacking the underdog.

I was excited to see them next to each other— I though they both looked beautiful.

      • x 4
    36. Guys what size of eyes suit best your dolls? I am thinking about 14mm or 14mm with smaller iris.

      • x 1
    37. I use 14/5 or 14/6. I like 14/6 in particular because it makes them look more dreamy. But I always use small iris on all my dolls.

      • x 2
    38. Does any of you have Tianba’s eyes? They say she offers 14/5 or 14/7 so I don’t know which one to choose.
@Mahgiep I guess 14/5 is considered small iris and 14/7 would be too big even for dreamer like feel?

    39. Not sure about 7mm irises. I have Tianbao eyes in 14/5. I think 5mm would be too small for ID75. Anyone have 14/7 photos?

    40. I do not have Tianba eyes and could not comment if it will fit for Idealian boys.

My boys wearing 14/5 and 14/6. However, I found that SOOM Zak (Original head), Hyperon (Romantic head) and Phonolus may need bigger size eyes. Their eyes will show gap with 14mm eye size and I am thinking of getting 16mm.

Newer sculpts seem to have smaller head and eye sockets.

      • x 1
    41. I have a small question. Sometimes I read about Soom 'light tan' ... It seems to be the same color as Soom 'tawny'... am I right?

    42. Not tianba eyes, but my York has 16/7mm right now (16 because his eyes are really wide and 14mm gaps). I could also go for 6mm for him but 5 would definitely be too small for my personal preference. But I guess it'll also depend on the head you have and the look you want. 7mm isn't too big for me personally.

    43. They are not the same color. They are different.

    44. Ah thank you, do you know what is the difference? I wonder if it could be combined

    45. I don't know if you are aware, but soom colors are notoriously famous for being all over the place depending when they were casted/done. So Tawny colors may not even match each other. They may be lighter or darker in shades.

I actually have a ID 72 Tawny head on an Iple RS body. Which matched okay.

I have seen another Tawny head from a different year on a Iple PG body and that one matched okay.

I have two bronze shades from different years that do not look like they are the same color, because one was way darker than the other.

What you asked was whether Tawny and Light tan were the same color and my answer was that they are not.

I don't have any ID 72 light tan, but I do Mega gem and I can tell you they are not the same color from what I can see.

Perhaps you were thinking of the Bronze and Tawny. Some colors have come close, but still bronze is usually darker while Tawny is lighter. But again, some years may match closer.

      • x 2
    46. I have two tawny boys from different years but only a few years apart. They are completely different. I was told to always buy the jointed hands at the same time as the doll because they won’t match in the next batch.

    47. @Mahgiep

Thank you so much for sharing that picture. Perfect example of what I was trying to convey.

Both very handsome by the way.

    48. Thanks for your answer @Bren I have no experience with Soom yet.

It's more like I have a head in Soom tawny which is not a Soom head (kathy knows which xD) and I need to find a body that is the same skin color.
I found a body that can be ordered in light tan (that's what they call it in english but in chinese the written version is exactly like the one from the head order)

So I would assume it a match, but according to what you said I guess it's unsure which reference they took for each skintone description...

I think I will take the risk and order the body...

    49. Wish you well.

    50. SOOM just put S.Hyperon picture on Instagram. I do not know if he will be ID75 or ID51. To me the head looks similar to Romantic head but I could be wrong. I am hoping for ID75 Open eyes head.

Edit: on SOOM Twitter stated ID75. That’s one mystery solved.

    51. @Lucid Walker I think he’ll be romantic head, unfortunately. I am hoping for OE too. Would you go for him if he’s the romantic head?

    52. No, I would wait if he is Romantic head. I already have him in Romantic head and, same as you, waiting for Open eyes head. There is still time and I hope SOOM will also considered release him with Open eyes Head. I will write SOOM and ask. If there is enough people asking, maybe they will think about it? I will try!

      Edit: wrote on SOOM Q&A

    53. I think it's going to be Scarface Hyperon this time.
Dude i just received my Hyun a week ago and now it's Hyperon again......Why are you doing this to me SOOM!!!:...(

      • x 1
    54. @Zhenwu I hope it is!

Ive been bugging them about a scarface rerelease in tawny/bronze skin

He looks a bit darker, but that could be photo editing to emphasize that its darker than the ordinary tawny skin.

Ive never been this excited over a Soom release since Dokkebi Garion in red a few years ago lol

    55. @GreenTeaSlug I'm 90% sure he's going to be in bronze. Get ready!

    56. I'm curious to see what the outfit that will sell out too fast will look like LMAO
I ACTUALLY have a doll on order that is 75cm (not Soom lol) shocking right? lol

      • x 1
    57. @Zhenwu He doesn’t seem to be scarface though. I think his right eye would be more closed than the other which doesn’t seem like it. Also Dream Side sound like romantic head sculpt to me. But we can only wait and see.

@Twisty I am curious about the outfit too!

I was wondering, has anyone been watching ordering of the limited 8 pcs Korean Death god Hyperon? I’d like to know how fast he had sold.

    58. @Hatsu

Do you mean the Vampire Hyperon that was released along with River?

If yes, it sold out within seconds.. I kept refreshing every 10 seconds 4 minutes before, and 15 minutes after the release time. I thought maybe it hasnt updated yet, but it turns out they actually all sold out that quick.

      • x 1
    59. Yeah, I wonder what version of Hyperon he is-- maybe a completely new version? Though I could see him being either the scarface or romantic versions in the dramatically lit picture they posted. I too was guessing bronze skin, though it looks darker than previous versions of Bronze? Could be the lighting. I guess it's a good teaser, because I have more questions than answers!
