Lucien is gorgeous! Love the faceup, especially the eyes. Is that a bee necklace...?

 

I really like Adonis' eyes here. That's probably what's going to be the big selling feature for me. I can't wait to see more pictures. Still debating if I want the normal or tawny skin for him. I got tawny on Narner, so maybe normal.

It is a bee necklace! And his lovely faceup is by SDink. I think he has a wonderful, soft painting quality.

 

I did it. I bought him too. I have 0 chill. I decided not to get tawny since I just bought Narner in tawny. I gotta stop now though. I've bought 3 in the past 4 months. RIP.

I think im safe. As nice as Adonis is, he's not my style. Which is good cuz I got a standing desk and a tablet this month so I gotta stop purchasing in October lol

My Phonolus arrived yesterday! That was fast! I had all weekend to figure out where to put him, but that didn't happen so gotta organize my room this weekend to try to make space.

 

@Vienel speaking as someone who also has zero chill, congrats! I love the look in his eyes.

@RamenNoodle will you post a Phonulus photo...? I am very curious.

Newbie to the hobby, and I finally pre ordered my first doll, which is Adonis. Honestly, Adonis' photos made me consider to finally get into the hobby, cause I be eyeing BJDs for the longest time. And because them photos just be so gorgeous;-;. LIKE AHH he has that sad mellow look which I love ;-;

After hesitating for like 7 days on whether I should get him or not. And finally seeing someone say that they bought him,

, made me be like “Alright, okay, I’ll buy him too. No regrets”

I got the normal skin one, hoping that they one day release Adonis in Bronze or something :”D

So has Hwain only ever been released once as a limited fullset? I was checking the site and only saw him listed once.

 

@Cloudedmind Yep, Hwain was the first time we saw Hyun. Hyun and Hwain share the same sculpt from what I understand from those who asked SOOM directly... Hwain just had a unique, limited face-up. But, there was some confusion on this i think?

Yeah, another member had a capture showing SOOM said they are different sculpts. And, I believe yet another member had a reply from SOOM saying they were the same, haha. I dunno. Buy both if you can or try asking as well.

 

Do the horns mean he will be fantasy? Horns, elf ears, cloven hooves, claw nails? Hope not. Just want a contemporary boy....

 

Oh wow, that's quite the plunge into the hobby. I've been collecting for over 15 years and I was shocked by the size of the idealian body. :'D (Well I was also surprised by the size of my very first msd but that was ages ago.) Congrats xD

Ohh, I'd be so doomed if he had cloven feet (I mean I was doomed for Soom when they released Beryl and Sard =had to have). But I don't think they do those for Idealian, they would be so giant and heavy. And don't they usually have an option to not buy the fantasy parts that tend to cost extra anyway.

 

His outfit looks pretty interesting. I also really like the eyes they're using for him, but I'm a sucker for gold eyes.

 

Mmmmmm yes, those look like RDean eyes. So lovely.

@marci12 thanks for the heads up ! He is quite interesting, hmmm I don't normally go for the taller bodies but in fantasy form I think it would be of interest to me, hmmmm......so many dollies, so little $$ LMAO

 

Yeah, I asked them a bit before Hwa-in's release and they did tell me they were different xD

 

@Yenna I only have one secondhand guy so Hyun would be my first direct from the company doll, so there's a lot I don't know. Are options typical? I know color choices are usually only 2 each time.

 

Thanks! I was looking at them on the site and they look both similar and different, and wasn't sure if it was because of the face-up and resin color making them look different.

I've been trying to hold out for another Garion release. But, I also really like Hwain, but not as drawn to Hyun, and was wondering if maybe it was just the styling.

Wow , 15 years is amazing ! I just googled what MSD size are and ,wow, they are quite big.
I feel like when I get him, I will be quite shocked by how big the idealian body are since I have only have had those small regular dolls. I have been using a ruler to imagine how big he will be :"D

Hyun is up and beautiful!! The outfit sold out fast. Can't decide if I should wait for Hwain... Think I'm going to wait... Can't wait to see who buys this guy and what y'all do with him .

 

I bought him in tawny without the R Dean faceup and got the BJ hands. Does that mean a blank face? I am such a newb. My Narmer is dancing around. Glad he's so happy. I'm feeling poor.

i got Hyun in tawny with R.dean's faceup and eyes as I've been a huge fan of her work since long time ago! also got the bj hands and the horns (finally omg! had been searching for years!).

OK I got Hyun in Tawny with Rdean Faceup + eyes + horns! This QTY 20 had me shaking lmao. I didn't even have time to think it through. Just went hard YOLO! I refreshed the page and it's now sold out. Either I got lucky and squeezed in as the last person or I missed it. Pray for me guys as I go ask Q&A... my hands are still shaking by how surreal this whole thing was LOL

Has Soom already mentioned they'll be releasing Hwain again? I actually just asked on the board, and am waiting for their reply.

 

No official mention that I've seen. But I've heard they were surprised by how popular he was, so I'm sure he'll show up sooner than later

 

I'll let you know what they say. It'll probably be the generic, "We don't have any current plans, but blah blah blah...", but maybe one more person asking will help push them even closer to sooner rather than later.

 

Why does everything get sold so fast? Last night it was only a teaser on the banner and I thought the doll would go out for sale in a couple of days but i didnt expect it would go for sale today. Wish they put down the dates on the teaser.

Its so unfair! Where on earth do people get all that money? I must be stuck in a low pay job- need to change career soon. Is $1300 per fortnight low pay? After taking out bills and rent theres really not much left for me to spend.

Lucikly though, Im not entirely upset since this version Hyun doesnt do for me. Not sure what it is but the original Hyun was awesome.

Just wish they offer a basic faceup on the basic doll.

 

Well if there are options they're pretty much always separate. And you can buy most of them even without buying the doll these days since they're separate listings. Which is good, cause I wasn't able to buy the jointed hands with my doll (he was expensive enough) so I'm now waiting for them to offer another bronze doll so that I can order just the hands. And hope the tone is even somewhat close to my doll. Soom and their vastly varying skin tones....

I understand the artist face up and the outfit being limited because they're out sourced, and I guess because they've been doing things this way for years, it's normal for them to release dolls like this. First teaser to make customers ready and release right after. I assume most people pay for their dolls via layaway these days so quick purhases are possible. But I mean, the basic doll is still available until the 28th. It's a bit strange they're not offering a Soom face up for it though. Could ask about it if one wanted it. I do think they should offer that option for every doll they sell.

 

@Tangmalangaloo This is a luxury hobby for sure, and I'm afraid the concept of "unfair" doesn't really apply. It would be like people who love cars saying that it's unfair a Lamborghini is so expensive. I strongly suggest building yourself a dolly fund, putting whatever you can afford into it from each paycheck, so that when something really special comes along you do not feel quite as strapped for cash.

I do think it's odd that basic faceups are not available, though. Maybe they've had to lay off some people because of covid.

 

Finally had some time today to take a photo of my Phonolus! I'm still not sure about normal skin, but I think I'll love him more once I find the right wig and eyes for him. The eyes he's wearing is from R.Dean and I much prefer smaller irises for my Idealians. Not sure what eye color I would want for him to have.

Also, I'm totally loving Hyun and his tawny skin! Will definitely order him at the end of the month when my next paycheck comes

 

I think the eye size suits him very well @RamenNoodle I've been looking for some 14mm eyes with a 6mm iris for my Phonolus - 5mm iris seems too small, and 7mm too big (the regular doll struggles). So far I'm on the fence between Thesecretartstudio and soulinabox on etsy, anyone got other recommendations for a special size like this?

... Which my wallet approves because I already have a Mason on lawaway, so adding a Hyun would have been a bit unreasonable.
I wish they'd release Hwa-In again, but we're still waiting on their previous LE3 (Seravie) re-release (and it's been quire a long time ;__; - Though I think he was less popular?)

 

@Ivelia Thanks for asking!! This is finally making sense, lol. So when Hyun and Hwain first came out, they were the same sculpt with different face-ups. But this release of Hyun is a slightly different sculpt than the original Hyun...? So it's different from Hwain. Right? LOL... Oh SOOM...Always so difficult. But yes, that makes passing on him easier. Too much spending this year! Here's hoping Hwain can make a reappearance next year...

 

Another option is that they meant that Hyun and Hwa-in have always been different, but the weird phrasing is probably because I was saying (in the full question) that people had asked before and had gotten different answers, so I guess they wouldn't say that "Nah, they (the representative, or the user) got it wrong lol." or the person that specifically answered doesn't know if they used to be the same doll, but is sure that now they are different.

The only time they sold a doll with the same name but a different mold was Chrom, and it was explicitly stated I think? (and still people where not super happy, so I doubt they'd pull the same stunt xD)

Also, that would be illogical, because if Hwa-In and Hyun were the same mold back then, then the different names would refer to the fullset type.
... Then if Hyun were a different mold this time around compared to the 1st release, why reuse the name of the fullset on a different doll with a radically different style?

Opps, forgot to report back, but Soom did get back to me, and yeah I got a similar answer to @Ivelia. Hyun and Hwa-in are different sculpts, and at the moment they have no plans to re-release Hwa-in, but they'd let the team know about my request.

I've been looking for eyes in these sizes as well, so thank you for mentioning these two shops! I'm gonna try Thesecretartstudio next month! @celga Thank you for the suggestion! I think I'll go with as you suggested and do blue/gray eyes

 

I just snagged Hyun with R. Dean's faceup! I really hope this wasn't an error in their system and it was just someone canceling their order so one was put back for order

I always wanted R. Dean's faceup and this might be the one chance I get her faceup!

So I recently ordered some eyes that are the right size from Moonlight BJD and they just arrived. However they do not fit into the soom eye muscle thing. How do I make them stay and not move around?

 

Just set the eye piece aside and set the eyes as usual. I like to use Macks silicone earplugs but there are many other options.

 

I'm going to have to restring this doll anyway. I have a Jethro head which is a Gem head and the brain + the eyes even without the eye piece doesn't fit and the stringing feels so weird. It's too tight at the top and super lose the further down it goes.

I'm dreading having to do it because it murdered my fingers last time I attempted. I'll probably have to purchase a stringing tool considering my method of using a long piece of ribbon wasn't working. I was hoping I wouldn't have to purchase one because I'm impatient. I did find one initially locally, but it was too small for such a big doll.
