Mason is so handsome, but but even with Layaway he is the same price as my car payment each month,. WHY!!!!!!???????? The torture of it all!!! If anyone gets him please please spam with pictures.

Mason is a sculpt that I will pass up buying, but end up regretting not buying him when I see owner pictures. I've actually felt that way about a lot of recent sculpts. Which leads me to believe I'm just not into the current styling of Soom, but love their sculpts. At this point I'm still holding out for Adonis lol, but I'll go for another doll if they really resonate with me and I can afford it.

 

Hi, I was tempted to look at this thread as I'm venturing into the big bjds again. Do Soom ever re-release sculpts? Boy have I missed out on some beauts! If Shoshon was released again... well, that would be serious temptation. How far in advance do Soom announce upcoming releases, or do they just appear every now and then?

 

@LilyAndRuby Idealian don’t do monthly announcement as The Gem did, but they released approximately every 14 days.
E.g : sep 1 ~ 14th for X, then 28th ~ October 5th for Y etc.
And they usually announce by a teaser a few days before release date, usually tweeter is the most updated one.

I would say the same Idealians are released mostly every 2 years? Some popular sculpt could be re-released every year under difference version with different event (eg: Hyperon ) They usually won’t offer the same skintone available from last release. They offered based on 1 new ID by 1 previous ID most of time.

Soom Gem Dolls

Not quite as much - more like 1 new release, 2 (or 3) rerereleases.

Fun facts - Gluino and Hyperon are the most rereleased dolls in Sooms history since 2008 with 14 rereleases both (including vampire/dreaming heads).

 

Idealian releases are hard to predict! I think when a new scuplt is not coming together they way they want, they toss in a release of an older scuplt. Perhaps that is why they don't release a schedule.

 

The Hyperon sculpt is so nice. It's probably my favourite along with Narner. I really do with that they would sell heads separately though. The full dolls are so expensive to purchase frequently.

I was not expecting this. I just ordered Xian in July. So soon...? His wig hasn't arrived. I haven't even ordered his eyes...!

 

YES!! My Xian is shipping too, lol. Just saw the notice in my junk. I just finished his layaway a few weeks ago.

 

I actually received mine earlier this week, on Wednesday! That was super fast considering I got him on layaway... (... I did pay it off earlier xD)
... Can't wait for my pharyngitis to heal already so I can faceup my dolls again. -__-"
Also I "might" try to get Mason... I'm intrigued by his face, and I fear he might not be as popular as the others due to his unconventional features, so waiting fro a re-release would take a while...

 

Mine is home!!!! I thought Kestral but it might be a Cas... His eyes are on the way and his wig should be finishing up in production. Love his outfit. Just wish it had a zipper in the front. Both heads are painted beautifully. I have the original release beast head and parts in white. A little modding and color matching... Sexy Beast❤❤❤

 

That's so exciting! That must mean that my Jethro is likely shipping in around 3 weeks(guesstimate).

Also got a question if anyone can answer it, I would be endlessly grateful. Has anyone tried to use a Ringdoll Grown Head on an ID75 body before? If so, did it fit well?

Ah, thank you, but that's not quite what I was after. I'm looking for photos of the two bodies next to each other. I'm pretty sure Soom themselves made some, but now all I can find on their site is the measurements chart that you posted.

You know, I feel very much the same way you do about Mason...! It would be a little, er, shocking to the financial system but I'm seriously contemplating it.

Oh, you're a lifesaver! That's definitely one of the images I was looking for. (I could have sworn there was a side view as well, but I may be wrong.)

If anyone else has any pictures of the difference between these two bodies, I'd really like to see them!

Oh, thank you so much for the offer! I would really love a shot of them straight-on from the front, and one from the back, and one from the side. The angle of how they're standing and the Dramatic Lighting™ in the Soom photo makes it a little hard to see the small differences between the sculpts.

(EDIT: Also, if you could maybe tell me which body you like better, and why?)

The ID75 is basically an updated, bigger version of the ID72. It got double jointed knees, updated elbows, notches inside the torso for better stability and a slightly changed upper leg joint, so he can sit straighter (the ID72 is always pretty visibly leaning back). Hands and feet are the same.

The ID75 is also less ‘deep’ than the ID72, which you can see pretty well in the side view, so he at least feels a bit lighter, even though he's bigger. His lower legs also got more of a curve forwards, hence the even bigger empty space below his feet when the legs are flat on the floor.

My opinion - I dearly love the actually useful upgrades like in the knees, elbows and the upper torso joint, but I’m not a big fan of his slightly weird shoulder width and overall height. With a head on he’s 76cm, while the ID72/Iplehouse EID hybrid is barely 72cm. The shoulder width isn't that obvious with clothes on, but he's a giant in comparison to all my other dolls :,)

@meanae Thank you so much for those excellent photos, and for your review of the bodies. That really, really helps me! I do have one more question, though: Are the elbows in the 75cm body still double-jointed? Because the posing looks like they are, but the joint itself?? Doesn't?

The new elbow sure looks a bit weird, but it actually works a LOT better than the old one. The ellbow joints on my ID72 are modded - normally the tube at the top is longer, and the upper slit is filled with resin. Which is, yes, super duper weird and basically makes them single jointed and hard to handle (Irascargear made a tutorial on deviantart how to mod the elbows over here: Soom Idealian body modifications tutorial by scargeear on DeviantArt).

 

Ah, I see...So really, the new body is quite an upgrade. Ugh, but it's just SO BIG (and also the shoulders look too wide to me). I'm still so torn.

 

So.....I don't know if this is true for the 72 body, as I have never seen one in person, but there was a thread in a FB group that talked about the new Super Gem elbow.

The original poster thought that the elbow wasn't double jointed and people had suggested modding it, but it turns out it has a locking mechanism to put it into a locked bent position?

There is a little peg on the top of the forearm part inside the elbow joint area. It looks like it just slots into the lower hole of the elbow peanut. But if you place that peg into the "fake" upper elbow peanut hole, it holds the elbow in a bent position. Might be worth checking if that is the case with the 72 body's elbow as well.

It was strangely complicated!

 

I got my Xian in earlier this month, and aside from the head- the 75 body is very nice too! I especially adore the body's thicker legs all my other boys are more on the soft and slim side

 

It is the case, and yeah it sometimes work, but more often than not the arm will snap out of the lock. The problem with it is also that its just working in an single direction. Like, imaging touching your left shoulder with your left hand. That works, kinda. But you can't turn the elbow joint outwards to shrug like this (https://image.shutterstock.com/image-photo/confused-young-bearded-man-standing-260nw-715126696.jpg), because the lock in the elbow will just snap out and you're back at 90° angle.

 

Hello everyone. I've been lurking in the thread for a while, but I finally received my first Idealian about a week ago. \o/ Had my eye on him for 6 years but I've been waiting for Soom to re-release York in bronze. Which they finally did last December. Took me 9 months to get him though, because Korean post doesn't want to ship EMS to Finland currently. I finally paid the extra fee for EMS premium just so that I'd get him home before winter. x_x

I don't have any good photos of him yet because he doesn't have eyes (wanted to test out the size before ordering), but I did a small review of him for my blog in the meantime. Also no shoes because those have the same problem as the doll did: EMS not shipping to Finland. D: I'm going to try to get some kind of a photo of him with temp eyes soon but I'm not sure if I'm very happy with his face up either. He's an existing character, so he has to look right. I have a younger version of him in MSD size. xD

I've been pretty happy with the 75 body so I guess it was good luck I happened to own that body. The 72 seems a bit confusing! Even if the shoulder ratcheting noise on the 75 still makes me anxious. Hehe.

Ah, I almost bought the red plaid suit Soom released! But have managed to stay good. I love plaid suits.

 

The ID75 body is gorgeous! But I also like the 72cm body as well. I do hope Soom will release Mason again next year like around tax time, would love to have a hunky resin man in my collection again.

I took eyes from his younger version (DZ Mo) as a temporary measure and took a few photos. They're not exactly the right color as I wasn't as picky when I got his original shell and they just kind of stuck, but this time I need something a bit more natural. x3

It's been awhile since I checked back to this thread, and what a nice surprise to see everyone's gorgeous Idealians! Plus I'm happy to see other Idealian newbies like me

My Phonolus is still being prepared for shipment, but that properly has to do with me ordering faceups for both heads. I can wait, I got lots of stuff for my other dolls to keep me occupied lol

I don't know if anyone else is looking, but if anyone wants better range of motion for the head, then you can try replacing the brain with Luts Delf Neck Part with S hook like this person did. They also mention to tape the face plate to the head since there's a chance of it falling off since there's large range of motion. From their photos it seems to be working well!

Thank you for sharing this link! I have an ID72 (Free Choice Hyperon) and I do notice somewhat less range of motion in his head. Dat brain...

I don't really see any benefit to this unless some heads have less range than others? It seems to me that my York head moves better than the photos in the Twitter. Also I would not want to put any more pressure on that super thin base of the neck on the headback. Mine already broke cause the brain snapped down onto it despite me holding it.
Besides, having the S hook sit at the base of the neck generally restricts movement (though that luts donut is better than straight up nodge for the hook because it moves a bit -but somehow to me it seems that it might also slip forward and off the neck). Back in the day when most dolls came with the S hook directly attached to the headcap (not sitting in the neck) the range of neck movement was a lot better. However, I would like to be rid of the brain just to... be rid of it. It's not very comfortable to move around and I have no tools to help me with it cause you can't just lift and twist like an S-hook. =__= Wish there was a way to comfortably remove the entire head, not just the faceplace.

 

They said that by changing to the S hook and neck part their idealian can actually move the head to look up now. But i think it also had to do with that the person also hated having the brain part and wanted to get rid of it without compromising the head movement.

But if the neck base is thin, then I worry about the former MegaGems that don't come with the brain part.

 

@RamenNoodle My York can look up just fine, so that might depend on the sculpt. There may be minor changes in the shape and size of the neck hole between sculpts. But mega gem heads should not have the thin neck issue, they have regular heads so they can put way more material into the base of the neck, like their Super Gems and basically any other doll that is not an Idealian with the faceplate system. I've had a lot of super gems and their necks are fine.

I mean, this bit is very thin, and it broke at exactly the weakest and thinnest point in the resin. Normal heads don't have this problem:

I'm puzzling over space for my Xian, who just arrived! (He's still in quarantine, because I'm a paranoid creature. But where will his box go in my tiny room...?)

Adonis looks a little 'gentle-homme'-ish in this shot, but he does seem to have an interesting collar...! Is that silver ornamentation I see peeking through at the bottom?

 

@green_judy my grail was Narmer in Tawny and I have him now. My first Idealian. Whenever I saw him, I melted. I noticed it was always Narmer when I checked the photos. He is insisting on Hyun as his soulmate so we are waiting for him. They will be inseparable I'm sure.

 

@Mahgiep Narmer is really lovely - what a great first Idealian. And Hyun...! I find him really arresting. I heard he might be released this year. Soon? I wonder what kind of styling he will get.
