Soom Attending New York Comic Con in October!

I have to admit, I'm ever so tempted by this event. XD I've always been a fan of Heliot's romantic head and Sard but I'm not a fan of cream white resin.

I know Heliot and Sard have been released as SO in normal resin but because it's their fantasy parts, we could get the full doll in normal resin, right? Though I'd still have to decide between the two. -hrm-

 

I wonder how much the difference between the Bronze and NS will be... and since it is ONLY Fantasy pieces on the doll I also wonder... >w>;; how will that change the price D: I would *hope* that it would mean lesser $$$$ since there is no human parts too but I doubt it, it IS soom ....

 

I want one of the monthlies in the special color. But I'll be stuck at a con in New Hampshire at a table that weekend so I won't be able to go ; ; That would also mean getting another doll before my first one even arrives, and ugh that would be no fun. But want want want want want. I do have friends going, but I don't trust either of them with my debit card. Soom! *shakes fist*

 

That is what I keep thinking about too, because my first idea was to get a Sard on Heliot body, and a Heliot on Sard body, and both in NS. But that could be seen as an attempt to assemble an NS Sard which has been released in this special LE 8 or LE 6 edition. It is too much of a risk, so I guess I'll try to go for a Bronze Sard only (and an NS Heliot? An NS Chalco on a Chrom body? A Bronze Chrom on... Arrrrgh it is the "collect them all"-fever!).

I actually caved and wrote a message on the Q&A board asking about that, so hopefully we should find out soon... since I know I'd either want a full Sard or a full Heliot in NS, because I don't really like tan. ^_^;

Wondering about this as well. Technically NS Sard isn't a MD. He's an ultra LE re-release. I'll ask Victoria about this and let you know what she says.

Does anyone know a good resource for Soom colour comparisons? Bronze and NS happen to be two of the few colours I don't have in my collection, and I'm having a hard time working out which I like more.

A photo containing Tan Brown, Bronze, Normal Skin and Cream White dolls would be awesome, but I have no idea how to search for such a thing =-=

I'd just ask Soom, but the last time someone did that, they put up their 'comparison' between Chalco Tan and Coquina Bronze, which were just cutouts from the respective sales photos (and was really misleading, since it made them look really similar, when apparently they are actually very different colours).

 

Why Soom, why! My wallet hurts already! I have Migma twins, NS Alk, and two teenie bodies on layaway already, and you do this?
I would love Io on a Chrom body! Either normal or bronze, but there's also Heliot there. I already have Heliot in normal skin, but not the fantasy head! I'm glad they haven't put up the Epidos body, or I would be doomed O.o
But also a new teenie centaur! x_x I hope I'll be able to pass on that one at least, because I really can't afford all of them! xD

 

Let's see...I can put up an example of bronze/normal/white/, but I'm afraid I have no brown to help out with. If we don't get an example of all the resins by then I'm sure I could line one up for the Anime Weekend Atlanta meetup at the end of the month.

I was planning to be there anyway cause Comic Con always has tons of free stuff and new games they are marketing... but now I fear I will spend my time in the Soom booth and miss everything else! I really want to check out the eyes, and the new MD's.
I am highly tempted by Sard and he could go with my Beryl! But have they improved their Super Gem bodies at all? The top torso joint always falls back on my Chalco and I hate it... to the point that it makes me want to sell him but I love his face!
I imagine how much I'd love a Sard head, with Chalco's thighs of Doom in Bronze... but then I remember my Chalco and I go, ala Vader "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..."

 

HeidiPay has most of the 'Shades of Soom', but not bronze, I think. Someone around here have a Coquina Bronze? Anyone willing to post up a bronze and then post up a brown?

Second all of this! I have several NS and WS Sooms, and a local friend has a tan Chalco. But I don't know anybody with a bronze doll.

Edited to add: Here is the comparison picture between bronze Coquina and tan Chalco. Rest assured Chalco is muuuuuch darker in real life. He's basically the color of rich chocolate.

 

Heidipay I'll probably be bringing one of my Teenie Gems to help pick out their Daddy and or Guardian Chalco will most likely be 'dad' for My lil Glati XD

Bronze is the color of Keny... ^^ He's much much lighter than Chalco!

So it was only Shoshon that was available in Bronze. All the others were in Dark Tan...right?

 

I can't wait to see what Smokey the Teenietaur looks like! I'm seriously addicted to Teenietaurs....

 

EDIT : I just found out that both Keny AND Chalco in these photos are BROWN TAN, not Bronze or Tan. LOL. That means only one thing : SOOM is very unstable in resin colors! But I guess then it's a hit and miss... ^^ Coquina's Bronze is closer to Keny's Brown Tan, it's a few shades lighter than Chalco!!

 

...and here I was telling myself I wouldn't buy any more dolls for a while. I could resist the last Chalco release because of the white skin, but I don't think I can resist bronze. Pity they don't offer a human body as well, though. I'm not so bothered about the various hoof and claw options, but I'm not a big fan of most of the fantasy hands. I'm rather partial to Sphaler's dragon feet, but Chalco's hands are much nicer.

 

Right now I don't have any tanned dolls, but I may need a bronze Sard on a Chalco body. Soom why do you do this to us?? At least I have a month to scrape together some funds, and they're offering layaway. I wonder what the price point on these babies will be?

Coquina looks pretty pink for being 'Bronze'...or is it just me? The Shoshon vs. Chalco seems to make more sense, but the owner labeled him as dark tan as opposed to the official name 'Brown Tan'. Typo? Or she/he actually got a doll in Dark Tan? Confused!

 

Oh, I'll be amazed if it's not limited. Besides, they're (and rightly so) giving priority to dolls actually ordered at the con, so we onliners will only have our chance after those are spoken for. I'm steeling myself for the possibility of missing out even if I DO manage to get the $$ together in time.

I'm hoping they won't have a limited number of heads and bodies, but just a limited order period like the rest of the MDs. Part of me wonders if the quality, especially on the bronze skin dolls, will suffer due to the massive number of orders they're sure to get. I'd rather suffer extra long wait times than get a poorly cast doll because they rushed to fill orders.

 

I wonder if you can only get these dolls blank or if they will offer the option to get a face-up and what face-up?

he is in "Brown Tan" not dark tan. I was referring to how much darker chalco’s skin color is compared to shoshon’s skin color. Sorry for the confusion

 

Perhaps another reason to get the doll on layaway?

 

I think it's incredibly unlikely the mix-and-match event will be limited by numbers, for a few reasons:
* Why list an end date for ordering if they are limited by number? The SO Onyx currently up has no end date - just a release date and a number limit. She'll presumably be on the site and purchasable until all 50 copies of her are sold. There's no reason to list the order date for the mix-and-match if they are limited by number.
* All mix-and-match dolls bought 'at' the event are being made after the event and shipped anyway (see the bottom, where it states that those bought at the fair will be shipped within the US, whereas those bought online can ship anywhere). This suggests that Soom won't be selling any mix-and-match dolls from their stall, and thus won't be making them before the con. Which makes sense, since producing 'custom order' dolls before getting orders wouldn't make much sense
* Why would Soom list the limited state of some things but not others? There are some things being sold at the event which are limited, either to the event itself (Smokey's Special Skin Colour) or limited in number (the Halloween clothing). These have their limitedness listed explicitly (special skin is 'not available online', and the clothing is limited to 10 pieces of each, and sold first-come first-served. Why would Soom be so specific about he limited number of outfits, but not tell us the number of dolls (if that is limited)?

I think it's more likely that Soom is expecting the short order period to keep the number of orders manageable. Not to mention the tons of stuff all being released at once! At least some people will have to choose between their mascot, the teenie centaur, the October MD, and the mix-and-match event, so Soom are probably hoping that orders will be spread out and easily managed by multiple production lines.

Also, thanks so much for the comparison photos, Fransyung! I have a sinking feeling that I might have to get myself a Bronze Sard even if NS Sards are possible... I thought it wouldn't fit in with my group, but it looks like there's actually a really balanced gradient amongst all four colours I'm still a bit meh about bronze and tan together, but your Keny/Silt/Yrie look amazing!

 

That's a perfect way to put it! until the sticker-shock hits, at least.

And I'm rethinking my first impulse now: I had guessed that everyone who wanted a Heliot would go for light skin as closest to the white skin they missed out on, but if everyone wants bronze, maybe I'd have a better chance if I choose light?...hmmm...*ponders*

And sharnofshade, you make good points: maybe I'm just too pessimistic? I'd rather you be right than me!

This is tooooo much!
The mere thought of fantasy vrs of bronze Euclase is so alluring! I shouldn't be even thinking about this kind of thing but Soom has my number and they are calling!

Also noticed that they will be releasing new dolls all at the same time. Can't wait what else they have thought of.

 

Oops, my bad, there were 8 LE Sards, not 6 like I stated earlier... sorry, going on 2 1/2 hours of sleep.

I've wanted to go to a Comic-con for some time now. I guess you could say it's made it on my bucket list lol. I actually really like DC comics. I got started on the original Catwoman series when I was 6 years old (that's what the Catw in my name stands for)! Had I known this year would have so much dolly goodness, I would have gone to less little anime cons and saved up my $ and time off from work to go to one of the Comic Cons (probably this one) instead... Oh well, ordering online will be cheaper anyway and I did have fun at my anime cons.

 

LOL do not underestimate how much fanboys and fangirls will pay for comic resin busts/statues of their comic faves, along with rare comics. I've been personally eyeing and crying over a Thor statuette about the same size as an MSD and around the same price as a Volks MSD.

 

lol No kidding. Half the reason why I don't have the Max factory Big O is because I keep spending the money on dolls.

Hmmm, anyone with a Heliot head interested in doing a little bronz color swap in photoshop? I would try but I'm at work all day.

I wonder how a Bronze Sard and Heliot will look like? >.< I agree with you that the limited time offer means there's no limit to the amount of dolls we can order. ^^ But maybe they do have some limit to it... Like when they think the order sheets are large enough, they'd stop the offer early? ^^ It hasn't happened so far with any of the MDs, but judging from this offer, it might? XD People are jumping up and down at the chance to order these guys! Moreover, finding human bodies for the NS ones won't be difficult!

 

Sooooo, stupid questions then:

1. Is there a difference between "brown tan" and "tan"? There doesn't seem to be.
2. Is anybody else wondering why WS isn't an option? It's certainly doable (WS Chrom or Chalco). Then again, if this ends up being hugely popular Soom might do it again with different/more sculpts and resin colors.

I also doubt it's going to be limited by quantity. Ever since Soom began doing their human MDs they've proven they still have the original molds and are willing to remake old dolls. They have the potential to make a small fortune from this event. Why limit your income?

@Cloudedmind & fransyung: There's only one problem with that 'shopped Heliot: it will be the romantic version of his head (fantasy head), not his OE (human) head which Soom will likely offer.

 

I tried photoshopping that one... didn't work out well since all of his photos are surrounded by white area... D: I couldn't discern the edges... at all...

 

Yes I know, which is actually the head I prefer for the eyes. Of course the unicorn hole will be a problem if I do decide to buy him in bronze, since sanding it down will make that spot lighter.

 

Oh, that would be a problem. Didn't think of that. Darnit, if only Soom offered the OE heads too. Heliot is looking remarkably pretty in bronze.

Oh, I don't underestimate that at all! Anime character figs cost all that and more =) I was just picturing a reaction of "it's just a doll and it costs what?!"

But since they're actually not producing the dolls until they get home with their orders, it does make more sense for the numbers to be unlimited than in my original mental image, which was that they'd show up with crates of parts and assemble dollies on the spot until they ran out of whichever. Which makes a great if chaotic picture. =)

This mental image is really great ^^ But I think what they mean with priority shipping is simply that the dolls ordered at the booth and paid in full will be shipped first, before the fully paid online orders. I think they don't really need to limit the numbers. With so many possibilities - different mix-and-match fantasy dolls, the Megagem, the Remaining Story dolls, the centaur baby and the mysterious Alex - noone will be able to buy them all, so there still will be rather few of each doll around ^^
