Soom Attending New York Comic Con in October!

I know what you mean D= I have a feeling I'm going to spend all day, sitting in classes checking here and the SOOM site for pics!

Hmm, I'm kinda new to all BJD stuff and I my first doll was a Trond.. I was a bit dissapointed and never really bonded with him, since I've wanted a Heliot ever since I laid eyes on him about 6 months ago I'm now thinking this is my chance but.. I cant help thinking about the worst case scenario, the same as with Trond = us not "bonding", how do you think these "new" Old MDs will go in the marketplace?

Kahlem - Since many of these guys have been long sought after by people who either joined the hobby after their release, didn't have the funds at the time, or pined over a different combination of body parts or resin colors than originally offered, I'm sure if, worst case scenario you were unable to bond with a doll gotten through this event, that you could find a new home where he'd be happier at a later time. I'm sure there are those who are going to miss out on this event as well, due to bad timing and low dolly funds, that would be happy to get a chance later on if someone didn't end up bonding or had to rehome later.

 

Yeah, I feel sure any of the NYCC Sooms will be considered highly adoptable, either in whole or in part.

 

Kahlem I'm going to be lurking in the MP for months waiting for the trickle-down. Don't worry about anything Soom you buy--someone will want it!

 

Now why haven't any of our Comic Con spies checked in??? Did they go soooo nuts they got arrested? I bet Heidipay was the ringleader .

 

My only problem is what if they do this again with the female MD's?
I don't know if I can afford one, never mind two of these events....

Ok pics coming in 10 min. Smokey is freaking adorable and the light purple is the con exclusive, the light purple (stupid Iphone) color will be available online. They have donkey ears and tail.

 

The boys don't go on sale online until the 17th I believe. Not sure about Smokey..the notice didn't say!

 

Ha, lol, I just checked the Soom site and saw that date... Now I feel stupid. Although... I feel like that date may be a recent site addition?

I am told there is a girly purple Smokey so, I MAY BE DOOMED INTO NEEDING HER!

Thanks for the con report! I think I'm going to bring my Sueve with me but I forgot to snag a basket I saw at work. Ah well, she's not too heavy and I'll just stick her in my bag if my arm gets ready to fall off.

 

Awesome on the pictures and that Victoria is there to meet in person. Glad to hear that they come online.

Oh, I think I'm safe from the centaurs! As much as I'd love the gray body, I don't care for the face, but that is just my humble opinion and personal preference. More funds for the big boys!

I'm hoping to get in the last hour tomorrow after hopping off the train, but considering how crowded it gets, I may just have to line up early Saturday and use tomorrow to get my bearings and head for dinner. I wonder what eyes will be left and what they have with them?

I'd bring my Amber but I just don't trust her ears with the crowds. If I could have gone today with less people, I might have attempted. I think I'd feel compelled to carrier in a baby carrier! *lol*

Since I don't think I'll get on here tomorrow before I catch my train, if you see a Balsa (Moribito) or Toshiro Hitsugaya (see my avatar) squeeling like a little school girl at the Soom booth tomorrow or Saturday, that would be me! I'll have a Soom doll stowed away somewhere on my person!

 

Great con report, heidiplay! That sounds so great and Victoria sounds so nice! I'm sure, like most doll companies, Soom isn't as big an operation as they seem. I'd love to see video, though. It would be so cool! And then I would like to meet the creators of the sculpts that are stealing my money and decide whether to thank or smack them. LOL! I hope day two isn't too crazy for them!

What is the centaur pricing? >_> I am feeling like I could really go for the grey centaur body even though I'm not too keen on the faces. I can do without the ears, but they look to be removable. Does anyone know if they'll come with a fur tail? Oh and did anyone catch if the human parts are NS or WS?

 

Ummm $395 basic... face-up was $40... ummmm I know when I added doll, face-up, body blushing, wig and shipping it came out to $588.

Oh, I so hope they do a mix and match for the SG girls. I want a Beryl head on a Cass body.
But for now I am waiting to put my order in for my Chrom. Waiting impatiently, I must say.

heidipay: *hugs* that was an awesome con report; i do not know how you managed with so much travel and so little sleep. it was a great treat to get to meet you.

let's see, what can i add? the soomy booth is just like what you might think that it would be. there is one table along the back with the dolls on it and one small round table with perhaps two chairs and a tiny lap top for soom and customers.

both soomy women were very charming. victoria, as you might suspect, is adorable.

plenty of eyeballs were left. the halloween costumes were still there, so run fast. no examples of the "bronze" skin were available for viewing. meaning: soom did not bring any.

alex is a beauty. phonolus is .... *HUGE* . hugeHUGE .

someone will correct me if i am wrong, but i would tell you: you would be doing soom a great favor if you would just order on-line. even if you are planning to go to comiCon, just make up your mind that everyone's best interests will be served if you order on-line.

the little purple 'centaur' looks like a little purple Eeyore donkey and is very cute.

we found food to be slim pickings at javits. we arrived home ravenous O_O. pack water to drink.

 

That's cool! I have to say I own like 8 Sooms and it will be 9 when I get the teenie gem tan body for my Afi (That's including the Rosettes) and I love their dolls!

Is the little donkey going up on the website? I thought only the color was a con exclusive?

 

Can anyone who was/is at the con please tell us about or show us pics of the special eyes?

As for the Teenietaur donkeys... I'm just not feeling them and I'm not sure why.

 

These were the con limiteds. The others were variations of these types. I was actually hoping for some of the glitter eyes from the old Soom's. But oh well.

 

someone tomorrow, on friday, will have to photograph the eyes. let's pretend that there are six different varieties. i think that nothing was smaller in size than 14 mm. if i remember correctly, none of the eyes had a regular black pupil. all of the eyes were 'squishy' .

i think that 'squishy' eyes, while they fit amazingly well,... i think that they get way too dusty. i stopped myself at the last moment from buying a pair. i figured that someone else would enjoy them so much more.

the little centaur donkeys come in two colors. the 'purple' one is the 'con only' color. i would think that smokey in 'gray' will be available on-line. each donkey is 'two-tone' there is a flesh tone on top and a fantasy tone animal part on the bottom.

i am very tired. be kind to me if i have gotten anything not correct.

I'm thinking of buying a Heliot but I'm not sure I completely understand what they're writing on their page so he comes in:
- Normal of Bronze skin
- With the romantic head and horn or the OE head?
- Long Legs body

- God hands?
- An extra body?
Does anyone know?

 

I actually am really really disappointed by the centaurs!
I had this sort of dark themed almost gothy image of a Migma-purple centaur (it is halloween after all!) but this is typical Soom neutral.
They're not TOTALLY coloured either, which is what I was expecting - Sov for example is ALL green, so I was thinking ALL vivid purple with dark makeup.
One of those cases of being way off image wise and totally unable to get into them as a result, sadly!
I don't like the faces at all either, but I'm not really liking many of Soom's teenie sculpts as of late so that's not surprising!

We just had a nice earthquake while I was typing that (I live on the 34th floor so, it's pretty intense sometimes.. aka like back in March!), so I think the Soom gods are angry at me for not liking their centaur xD

 

No extra body. It's a full fantasy version of Heliot.
In details: a Long Legs body with fantasy parts and with the romantic head w/ horn, and yes you only have God hands:

The Long Legs body is taller than normal SGM is 67cm, and only Heliot had that body when he came out on 2008.

You can read here and here the rules written by Soom.

 

- You can get a Heliot in either Normal Skin or Bronze Skin (as he has never been released in either colour). Bronze skin costs extra. In NS he is $670 (not including face-ups or blushing), in Bronze he is $824 (not including face-ups or blushing).
- Fantasy heads only, so Heliot comes with his romantic head (including horn).
- Long Legs body
- God hands are included. Regular human hands are not included. Similarly his hooves are included, but the human leg parts they replace are not included.
- No extra bodies (all dolls must be 1 head + 1 body + 1 skintone choice, not any number of combinations - you can order multiple dolls, but each 'doll' package you add has the same limit of 1 head, 1 body, 1 skintone).

Thank goodness I am not a fan of the centaurs. They are cute but just not for me. I am just stuck on Phonolus now. If my car passes inspection I may have to take the plunge for him...

I think you hit it on the head there Midnite! I was totally expecting an all black (for the special con only color) and an all grey (for the online color) with a Grit/Syen cute but gothy look. I personally like the look of the 2 tone centaur bodies and think it's about time we had more, but I'm just not feeling these faces. I think the donkey idea is cute and it makes me think of Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh, but it's not something I want to own... maybe if it comes with a horse tail too, I might buy one and split off the head, otherwise I'd much rather hold out for a true centaur teenie that has all the elements I want.

 

Yes, that's actually the point of the event... to create your own hybrid

 

Ok, I have a question to ask to Victoria, let's see if someone going to the Con can ask her! I am wondering about smokey centaur parts, are they the same as pyrol/aloa? Could we interchange pyrol horse tail with smokey donkey tail? and also it would be nice to know if smokey comes with fur tail.

I think this info will be valuable for the donkey splits I think we will be seeing soon LOL
