Soom Attending New York Comic Con in October!

I know I really want to see the limited to CC eyes and skin color of the Teenie. I know I don't want a Centaur but it will be cool to see. Can't to see what the Little Gems are and the OCT monthly is a Mega gem... ooooh sexy! I think I would love to have a Sard in Bronze... but although I love Soom's faces, I really hate the Super Gem body. I feel like it has no stability and flip flops in the torso joint way too much.

I am going to actually start sending them letters in the mail if they insist on our money regularly like this. D: I hope a monster eats them.

oh wow this seems awesome. won't attend for sure however but I think it might be Soom way of checking if it would be a good idea to open a shop in the US. We all know Volk store works well so why not a Soom store =D

I think they just got so much money for everyone, they found they could make so much more if they took the dolls to us. I might know someone going though, so I could probably ask his wife to try to nab me some stuff from the booth if they do. D:

:'( I went to Otakon this year. I can't really handle another convention, even if I don't have much interest in American comics.... The fee and the hotel would be bad enough, but to add a Soom doll to the mix? *sigh* Hm *thinks a bit* Mayyybe I could just go in for one day... Just to look at Soom's booth.... Pay for the train, pay for a one-day pass... maybe.

 

Man, my boyfriend's got a free plane ride to any convention our friend goes to, and he couldn't afford his own table, so he would have nothing to do but sit in line at the Soom booth for me! I HAS A PLAN. >:3

This is such a great deal though, I am having trouble deciding who to go into dangerous debt for. Should I do a Chalco with Heliot hooves, or a Chalco with talons? So hard to decide!

 

Well, this puts it on the schedule for me. I had been considering going, but there is a con here in New Hampshire the same weekend, and I was torn... but now I'm heading to NYC.

 

Well I know darn well I can't afford to go but I'd like to ask everyone planning on going, take a TON of pictures! I want to live vicariously through your photo spam!

 

Thank goodness there is no Amber. Seriously, I can not afford another trip or con and I know I'd be desperate to try to get her if she was available xD.

This is really awesome though and I'm very pleased to see Soom coming out to North America. I wish someone would come to Canada but I think most of the time they forget that we are here ^^;. Have fun to all those who go and to everyone participating in the events!! Please take lots of photos for those of us who can't attend!!

I totally agree they need to come to Canada. I'm curious about all the the mixing up the molds and curious about the new dolls coming out. *I should be safe.*

 

Bronze Sard Always wanted a tan doll...always loved the Sard mold yet put it in the back of my mind as I can't afford the resale prices...and now...this! Why do they insist on keeping me in debt?! (I know, I know it's not their fault...) There goes all my plans to completely pay off my CC...

I have no interest in American comics either and the amount of Japanese anime/manga is very miniscule (experience from last year's NYCC+AnimeFest) so I wasn't planning to go this year...but I think I will now! I'm so curious to see soom eyes irl for the first time! And all those dolls displayed...I think I'll be standing in their booth for a really really long time.

What I'm most curious about is whether or not you will actually get a doll when you hand them your money there. Or if there is still a wait.

 

Comic Cons - grrrrr. Soom should know, for the benefit of those of us in the Southern states, that 80,000 people showed up for Dragon Con - they should bring their dolls HERE!!!!

 

This is SO COOL! I hope you can order more than one doll and am just grateful they're offering it online so us folks on the other side of the world dont miss out!

 

If they want to show up to future comic-cons, I would recommend C2E2 in Chicago next May. They would have so much time to plan! They are only two hours from me, and it's a good bet that my honey will be there selling stuff, so he can bail me out in case I spend too much again. Also, I would have a job by then, maybe.
Is there a detailed comparison of all the Soom fantasy parts? I would like to see a little list, kind of like Iple's custom doll list, so I can decide what part my boy should have.

 

Argh Soom...I pay off one layaway and then it looks like I'm going to start another! I know I want the bronze IO head badly, but I'm torn between the Chalco and Chrom bodies.

 

Is Io's fantasy head technically the scarred one or the normal one??

Isn't the IO body just human? And is the IO head the scarred one? I'm guessing the Euclase head is the one with the ears??? And you can get Chalco head and body in bronze 'cause the original was Tan Brown, right?

IO body isn't available, but I'm puzzling over which head it is, too. Epidos is also head-only, and Sphaler is body-only. It's a bit weird . . .

 

I want a Sard on Heliot body in normal!... And a Heliot on Sard body in normal (what? hehe, but it would be possible, since the originals were both WS/CW). Just in case it is not lottery-based (please please don't be!!! I am always unlucky when it comes to lotteries), I wonder if we can order more than one? If yes, I will have to borrow money big time, since I am afraid of layaways.

And Alex... Will she ever be available afterwards? I don't even know yet how she looks but she has my name so I think I might want her anyway. And please don't let Phonolus and the Little Gem MDs be amazing, or I don't even know what to do. Just wish I was rich or something ^^

 

So I'm guessing that means the IO scarred face (plus the lion mask) will be sold. I just wish they would sell the heads alone (like the body event).

Oh, looks like they are allowing layaway for at-con and online orders.

 

I just checked the notice again on the Soom site and they made an update.

"5. Layaway orders are allowed for both online and in-situ orders."

Oh and also..

"*Orders made from the booth: shipping fees will be set for a shipment to the US.
*Orders made online: we cano ship your order to anywhere as usual."

 

I'm glad they updated that. I was wondering if it would be limited to the US only. It was a bit hard (for me) to tell from what they originally wrote.

 

Bronze Sard, here I come.

 

Io only had a human body and they said human bodies would not be available. Epidos is either human or the much more logistically difficult centaur body. Sphaler has good fantasy legs to make up for those two, and he's a less popular head. Presumably a few examples of these guys will be at their booth, so perhaps it's a way to make their debut presentation look cohesive. There will be a high percentage of attendees who have no clue what BJDs are beyond what they've seen in Japanese manga, so a line-up of kick-ass guys who look like DIY Final Fantasy bosses with catch the eyes of a totally different demographic.

 

I'm really really really tempted to get a bronze Sard from this... I've loved Sard for a long time, and in bronze? Amazing

Bronze Sard on Chalco body? Thank goodness I have a month to think about it. I am so happy but angsty as well because this is going to make be choose between Sard, Heliot and Epidos heads...

 

I don't think they left off Sphaler because he was less popular, I think it's because he essentially was a human head. All his special parts were held on with magnets. It sounds so wrong to type it that way, but I'm not changing it. Plus he was offered in normal skin. It would probably needlessly complicate things to offer Sphaler in bronze only. Bronze Sphaler. . .

If anyone has asked if they might sell the heads separately, could you post here? I'd ask (and will, if no one else does) but I don't want to post a question that's been asked already.

I am thankful that the past MDs will not be available in WS. I can resist bronze and NS. I will likely have enough trouble with Phonolus and Alex... I wasn't expecting another male so soon, and who knows what sort of mascot they'll come up with?! And I'll still have IH Claude with the humungous layaway from HELL to worry about!

Just being able to go and say hello to some of their staff and thank them for the mountains of awesome that have made their way to this house over the past few years is a total treat as well. Somebody from the shelf is gonna have to get a makeover to come along with... and the faceup service is a super temptation, too, considering they'll do custom!

Oh thanks goodness I dont buy boy dolls or else I would be doomed. Had I had the option to buy a tan Vesuvia I would be so so so doooomed. I can resist a boy doll...I think. A tan Sard would be so yumm though.

Interesting. Though I will warn everyone who is going to NYCC that it is very crowded and horrendously run. When I went last year, they didn't have maps of the convention available for anyone and staffers were horribly misinformed about what lines were what. I am pretty forgiving about con experiences, but it was hands down the worst convention I've ever been to.

But they plan to sell Chalco's head, even though all his "fantasy head parts" are magnetic too, and he was available in NS. I think maybe there is some reason we don't know why they don't offer Sphaler?

...I just remembered that Sard was available in NS with fantasy parts already (the LE edition of 8), so no NS Sard head with NS Sard body for me. He will have to be Bronze ^^

I am a bit sad that New York is too far away for me to go to this convention, but it is great that they offer the possibility to order these wonders online! But such a long wait till October 17th! (Oh no, now I even begin to wait for the wait to begin...)

I can't even begin to express how excited and scared I am about this! Too bad, I had almost paid off all my debt... but at least my one year dolly detox is up in October so I won't be breaking that! I was going to try to save up and buy a Volks limited to celebrate getting out of debt and making it a whole year without buying any new BJDs, but now I think I'll have to buy a Soom doll or two instead and go into a bit more debt. Bad Kassy! >_<

Anyways, a few thoughts about the event....
1.) Will they even let us get a NS Sard or will they cancel those orders because of the 6 LE Sards?
2.) Perhaps Smokey's original skin color will be gray and the Limited will be black like Shonki
3.) Soom selling at an American con may mean they have plans to open an American store. h. Naoto came to Anime Central and now they're going to open an American store (yes I know one is a Japanses clothing brand and the other a Korean doll company, but still...). Does anyone know if Soom did any promoting in Japan before they opened their shop in Tokyo?
4.) Maybe next year they'll do the same type of event for the SG girls!

 

But of course. I likely would stop by anyway. I'm not sure what we're doing specifically, but we -might- be going up and back once or twice, so if you'd inclined at all to go, Kim, just let me know -- we might be able to offer a ride. We'll be there Thursday from what I can tell, since he needs to be at the sci-fi continuum booth at the crack of dawn that morning, and I'll be stapled to his side looking confused and crowd-fearing. (I actually sat under the table handing people things from the stock pile there one day at Boston the year I went.)

It would take Soom to make me get over my squicky-ex-collision-phobia that always kicks in re: cons in the NY/NJ area that has persisted for 15 years now. I'll have to decide which doll to bring with me... and the more I think about it, something big and pointy is not a bad call, crowds be damned. *cough*
