Sleetwealth Briar Discussion

Oct 28, 2008

    1. Oh knickers, I forgot to measure her shoulder width, well here is her shoulder to floor measurement....29cm approx.
I'll get the other one for you in a minute....just sat down a minute!!! LOL!

    2. Just wanted to share a pic of my Sophia in her new dress:

It is made of stretch lace with hand beading.

What is your Briar wearing these holidays :kitty2 ?

    3. Oooooo Saba, your Briar is looking lovely in that dress, you've made a really good job of it....suits her perfectly!
I'm afraid that my Rowan (I think that is her name but may change!) is still wearing the purple cat suit or leotard (not sure what it is really called) that I made for my friend and then kept because it wasn't exactly what she wanted. I did make another though, so here is a photo of her wearing that.....just to keep the thread moving....it is so quiet on here! Still noy sure about these eyes!
I hope more people will post in the New Year as I know we have some new owners on here too.
Happy New Year to everyone on here!

    4. :DI wish everyone a safe and happy new year!!!

SABA, THANK YOU!!! SUCH a GORGEOUS dress that you made for your Briar!!! I love it!!! Your girl is ADORABLE!!!

SHARON, you know that I am an admirer of all of your work, wish that I could pull off wearing a cat suit...Rowan is LUCKY!!!

STELLA MARIS, 7777LUCK, TUVIE!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH, I AM GOING TO BE POSTING MORE PIX (BELIEVE ME!!!)...CAN'T WAIT.

BTW...The wig that she has on is a Sybarite Victimize. I am still noob status with the picture taking/dress making, but having lots of fun learning. Have fun everyone!!! I REALLY LOVE THIS DOLL!!!

    5. I agree, she is so unique, truly an art doll :3nodding: Here is a pic of her with my lati blue boy Rei- he is much taller than her, but I like them together:

(more of the two of them here: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=347355 )

    6. Saba, your Briar is gorgeous and they look perfect together :aheartbea

Now I have a question, where do you buy Briars from now and does anyone have a link? This is the link I had but it does look out of date http://www.atnouveau.com/briar.htm

Is there any news on an Elf Briar? And when you say you have one on layaway, who is the layaway with??

    7. Kathryn, I think they are still being sold through Dollfair International, although as you say, that looks a bit like its not been updated. I remember when I was thinking of getting my Briar, before I got her secondhand in the end, I emailed Dollfair and spoke to someone there. I can't remember who it was though.

Saba, I must have missed this photo, they do look an attractive couple!

    8. Yes *puts hand up* She is mine :)

If you add a Captiva Briar to your cart, it tells you they are out of stock- then I contacted Catrina at Dollfair and she told me which are still available ;)

As far as I know the elf Briar is still a WIP, and the artist is working on a Briar with double jointed knees.

    9. I'm a proud owner of a Briar! I'll have photos up soon. My mom had one, never bonded with her, and I am always playing with her, so I inherited the doll! Woo hoo!
Anyway, I've changed and modded her completely! I'm so happy with her now!

    10. Congrats Muse Star, I love my Briar, and hope you'll continue to enjoy your 'inheritance'!!!

    11. I have decided that I really, really want a Briar. They are stunning

    12. Hi violet girl! Briar is a wonderful girl! I have mine and just love her to pieces. It was my moms doll.

I did remod her ears a bit and paint her other worldly eyes, so now she is a faerie. I call her Briarthicket. Here she is! Teased her hair a bit too.
      Hope you like!

Thanks dambuster01...........she is such a perfect size!

Also........anyone know what clothing they fit?

    13. You pretty much have to make clothing if you want it to really fit well and look good. She can wear Ken jeans and some Barbie tops too.

    14. Thank you Nathansgirl1989............I'll give the Barbie clothing a try. For now, I dug into my stash of clothing and found she can fit into some Muffy Bear clothing too. I've got a one piece on her that fits great, the dresses not so much!

    15. At Last! Her name is Aria, and she arrived two days ago!! So far she has spent most of her time trying on clothes and getting to know her horse, a black stallion called Nero. So she has firmly indicated a strong preference for lace and outrageous hats, though I'm not sure how well lacy outfits go with riding. I want to make her an elegant period riding outfit and need to find a picture to go by. Maybe something out of Gone With the Wind. Now, if I can figure out how to post a picture....:doh

[IMG] Oops, that didn't work so well.
      [IMG][IMG]
That didn't either! Back to the drawing board... I'll get it figured out and post some Briar spam as soon as I do!

    16. OK, this will have to do for now:). I am definitely challenged in this department; someday I will figure out how to post a picture right here, but for now at least I've gotten as far as Flickr!!! Click on photo to enlarge, you can faintly see her white facial tattoo.

      http://www.flickr.com/photos/claywimmin/?saved=1

    17. Aria looks so pretty in that wig!! I can't wait to see her in her riding outfit! :)

    18. Aria looks very beautiful!! To post the pic from your Flickr, click on 'all sizes' on your Flickr pic, then copy the code (I think the bottom one but if not it's the other one!). Then to post that onto here, open your message then in the icons above the box there is what looks like a yellow envelope shape with mountains and a sun (well that's what it looks like to me!!). Click on that and it will invite you to paste the code over. Hope that helps :)

    19. Wow, it works! Thanks for the tutorial, Kayjay, it was easier than I thought it would be! Now I'll have to get some more decent pictures, lighting is an issue in my tiny studio apartment and dontcha just love the wrinkled sheet as the background:doh.

What amazes me about this girl is that she doesn't just wear clothes, she showcases them - even looking good in this recycled doily from the far reaches of my closet.

    20. Moonstone Spam!!

    21. Hello !

I am looking for the link about the limited Briar...
      Can you help me?
I want to buy one with a facial tatoo... :)

    22. http://www.enchantmentdoll.com/captiva.htm
This is the link but better contact them to determine which of the dolls are still available. The one with the white facial tattoo is mine, she's been home for several weeks now but as far as I know still shows on the site. They are very helpful, just let them know what you're interested in.

    23. Thank you so much Claywimmin ! :)

    24. :DCLAWIMMIN AND NATHANSGIRL!!! I am so in love with your girls!!! They are GORGEOUS!!!

I am VERY new to sewing, and had ordered some vintage Barbie patterns off of e-bay. The pattern has to be modified, obviously, the vintage Barbie bust is huge...so I took it in for briar. Also, the vintage Barbies waist is much smaller than Briar's so I compensated in that area leaving extra room. It is so much fun experimenting!!!

:aheartbeaTAKE CARE AND HAVE FUN EVERYONE!!!

      EJ

    25. I just ordered my Briar -- so excited for her arrival ^^ How long does company take usually?

    26. Congratulations SweetChristine! They don't seem to take very long at all from what I have heard, so hopefully you will have your girl soon.

ErikaJ, your Briar is just the coolest most trendy girl with her wig and new outfit. I'd never have thought of adapting Barbie patterns, but I did adapt some others....I'll have to think hard for the name of the doll though....when it comes to me I will post it here! (Senior moment :doh)......EDIT: Gene, that was the name of the doll!!!
Well as we're doing some spam thought I'd share photo or two of my Rowan, she gets neglected when it comes to new clothes, so she borrowed this tee shirt from my Minoru World Junior. Actually I was trying it for size really and it fits her quite well.

    27. :DSWEETCHRISTINE, CONGRATS!!! You will LOVE her, and I can't wait to see your pix!!!

:aheartbeaDAMBUSTER!!! You are such a sweetie!!! Your girl kills me, with her bright green eyes, and cutie outfits!!! You are a brilliant seemstress, and I will definitely be coming to you for commissions in the future!!!

      Take Care!!!

      EJ

    28. EricaJ, I love her outfit! Especially the colors, the combination is just wonderful. I too love tweaking Barbie patterns to fit Briar; mostly they just need a little extra length in the body, a lot of extra length in the legs/skirt and a tad more width in the right places. I'm currently working on an outfit from the 1910-1911 era with those fabulous, outlandishlly large hats. Will post pictures when I'm through and have the hat.! Meanwhile, I just noticed (:doh) her shoes -- where did you get those great shoes??!! Grown-up looking shoes are so hard to find for Briar, so far all I can find are those round-toed kiddie style shoes, Mary Janes and such. Those little slipons are perfect, where on earth did you find them???
      Cheers, all

    29. :aheartbea:DClaywimmin!!! I can't wait to see your girls outfit!!! It is sure fun experimenting!!!

Anyway, I got the bow flats from a totally awesome lady named Dale Rae. Her shop is here: http://www.dalerae.com/index.htm. They are VERY tight, I really had to squeeze her feet into them. I don't think that they would fit with tights. My Briar has on the footless tights (from the awesome Dale Rae also).

      Take care!!!

      EJ

    30. Thanks for that link -- those are the most adult looking shoes I have seen for her -- so far all she has is a pair of YO-sized sandals which sort of go for any age.

Has anybody else out there found good shoes for Briar?? Let us know!

    31. Thanks to Inamourada Flux, who parted with her Darcie, Sleetwealth Briar moved from "maybe-one-of-these-days" on my wishlist to part of my dollie home. I just love her. She is every bit as graceful and beautiful IRL as she is in photos. She will live atop my printer, right next to my computer monitors. I snapped a quick photo (in a Monique 5-6 JoJo wig I have):

    32. Congrats AnitaS, your Briar is beautiful....and you're right, they are very graceful young ladies!

They even look graceful when dressed very casually, as Rowan demonstrates here:

    33. :DSHE IS SOOOOOOO LOVELY!!! LOVE HER WIG AND THAT OUTFIT, SHE LOOKS ANGELIC!!! TAKE CARE!!!

      EJ:aheartbea

    34. A totally different look for Briar -- I've long admired some of Michele Hardy's fanciful creations but never had a doll I thought they'd work on. But Briar's not part of any other group of dolls in my house, and she has that incredibly sculpted sophisticated face. I thought maybe she could pull it off. So got a new outfit today and I LOVE this look for my Briar (pardon the mess, I was changing a lot of dolls' clothes):

    35. :aheartbeaI LOVE HER ANITAS!!! This outfit is sooooooo gorgeous!!! Her wig shoes EVERYTHING, I AM IN LOVE!!!

What size is the outfit/shoes, BTW?

Thanks for the super cute pic!!!

      EJ

    36. Oooh Anita she is sweet! Very Cindy Lauper with a twist.

    37. ErikaJ, the outfit was originally made for a Creedy Melodi, a slightly chunkier 13 inch doll. But Michele's clothes are pretty adjustable so it fits Briar well. The skirt is a tad too big but I can fix that later (didn't want to take the outfit off once I got it on <g>). Briar has the chest/waist dimensions of the skinny 42cm Resinsoul girls (Mei/Ju) tho her hips are smaller and she's shorter. So I imagine that she can wear some of Michele's outfits that would fit those dolls, depending on the style. . . .The wig is also a Michele Hardy wig (I have a lot of her wigs).

The boots are ones I got from Dale Rae for my 27cm Resinsoul body. On this page, I think. The other shoes on that page that I have for the RS body also fit her, tho I like the slimmer style of the bow shoes that are 47cm for fashions without socks. I got the 47cm ones from from JuJus Dolly Mall here.

    38. AnitaS, that is a very different and coooool look for your Briar, she looks really great in that outfit!

    39. OK, can't resist posting some Aria spam!:) Here she is in her 1910 outfit inspired by the movie Death in Venice. The hat is by Feltrope Studios on eBay - I just love these hats and wanna gather a whole wardrobe of them! This makes Aria very happy, as hats are really her thing!

    40. I can't believe it's taken so long to post some photos in here! Here is my exquisitely lovely Misashe, who came to live here at the beginning of August. Oodles of thank-yous to Catrina, who was absolutely wonderful in organising both girls for me (photos of Lisielle to follow ... soon, I hope!) And many thanks also to Valerie for Misashe's exquisite LaPierle gown and choker.

I cannot imagine a more lovely face than hers :aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea

    41. Briar spam! (Love this girl, she cannot take a bad photo <g>). . . I wired her arms with pipecleaners and it's really helping . . .Outfit is by Michele Hardy. Made a black wig for it, specifically, then decided I liked it better without:

More photos at the very beginning of my Flickr link below. . .

    42. Aria took a virtual trip to Spain, where she decided to take up flamenco dancing. Here's a photo of her in the town square, waiting for her tall, dark and handsome partner to arrive... late, always late!

Her white tattoo shows a little in this shot. You have to look closely to see the Fimo clay castanets in her left hand.

    43. Did you do the faceup? It's beautiful! I love the lips and the brows - well, everything! I see you didn't want to get eyelashes into those tiny eyewells <g>. . . . can't blame you. I've done it on my Planetdoll tinies and it's pretty frustrating, even when you use the smaller bottom lashes. . .

    44. Thank You. I found it yesterday but when I emntioned it to another doll collector I was referred to a forum about Dollfair and Narea (?) and there seems to be a few questions hanging over Dollfair right now, it's made me very wary of sending them my money. I wonder what people's recent dealings with them have been like with Briar?

    45. The Briar dolls at Dollfair have already been made and are in stock at the Dollfair offices in Ohio. You shouldn't have any problems with dealing with them in that regard, they do have a good reputation although communication can be slow sometimes. The problems with Narindoll are to do with the manufacturer in Korea not producing or shipping the dolls that have been ordered. EnchantmentDoll, Atelier Nouveau and Dollfair are owned and operated by the same people.

    46. I have ordered eight dolls (not Briar but others) from Dollfair over the years and had no problems.

    47. I would not hesitate at all -- I bought my Aria from Dollfair on layaway. They were very communicative and helpful, I would have no qualms in ordering again. I want a Ylisande -- all I need is money!!

    48. claywimmin, if you can possibly get a Ylisande you should jump on it! They are gorgeous.

    49. That's good to hear, I was just a bit worried as Anita Collins put something on her blog in the summer about not being happy with her dealer in the US and I didn't know who she was referring to. It's all a bit hazy now to be honest. But if you all think they still have Briar I will go ahead and order.

    50. I went ahead and placed my order, fingers crossed everything goes well. I just hope it gets past customs, but they always seem to catch the parcels from the States. I've wanted this doll for so long but kept putting it off because of the tiny size :)

    51. I would order with confidence vonbonbon.

    52. Does anyone have another email contact for them please? I paid by visa and got an automatic email response with an order number but the money still hasn't been taken and they haven't answered my emails other than that. I once had an overseas transaction canceled by Visa because they just assumed someone had stolen my credit card and they never even informed me about it. I have been trying to ask Dollfair if there is a problem but no reply. The email I have been contacting is:

      [email protected]

    53. That's the email I used when I had Aria on layaway. I know they have a small staff -- only a couple of people as far as I know. When one was away at a convention the other was really swamped. I don't think you have cause for concern.

    54. That's the email address I used when I bought my two Briars back in July. I dealt with Catrina and communication was a bit slow sometimes, but don't let that put you off. The doll is so lovely - even more beautiful in person than her photos, if that's possible - it's worth a bit of a wait. She sent me some photos of Briars she had in stock so I don't think you need worry about them being sold out. The only problem for me was choosing which one to get!

    55. My money went through last week, I'm just waiting on a shipping confirmation. I'm so excited but an email would make that little nagging worry quieten down. Hoping I will have her soon to show you :)

    56. I'm so excited to find this thread! I won a LE Idex Briar at my doll meeting yesterday. I am so 'enchanted' by her size, posing and lovely little face up! She's got the prettiest, poutiest lips! My Briar actually looks exactly like one of the photos shown in the thread of the Idex Briars, but I'm not sure what people are referring to when they mention numbers.

**Edited to add: My girl looks like the 3rd Briar pictured on page 3 post # 59.**

    57. Wow lucky you! That looks like a tan skin Briar, then. Originally, each of those IDEX Briars, which had special faceups, were all numbered and showed up on Enchantment Doll's website by the number. But those pages have been taken down and Enchantment Doll doesn't sell Briars any more.
