SLEETWEALTH BRIAR DISCUSSION THREAD Facepainting, outfit, styling and photography by Armeleia. I want one! Catrina
The artist is Anita Collins of Sleetwealth Studios, she is a member here who goes by the name of "brushwithlife".
Check out the News thread for more posing pics. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=252702
If you click on Gallery in the menu on the order page there are nude and posing pictures there. I do believe there will be more pictures up soon, as well. Briar is slightly bigger than Marina Bychkova's Enchanted Dolls... she can wear Barbie tops and Ken bottoms, but they will be short in the sleeves and legs. She is a little bit smaller than Oriendoll Il etc.
Well, here is the one pic I have.. if Armeleia has time to take pics that would be great but she's been very busy this week.. so we should not pester her, LOL. Thanks Armeleia for the nice pic of the tanned and pinky white Briars side by side...
Will anyone be sewing for this girl? Any measurements posted anywhere? I really like the lingerie set shown in the picutures, were those custom made, or can this doll fit some other doll lines clothing (cough, Tonner, cough)
I think she can fit into Tyler type clothing, her body seems to be the perfect size for it too, I sure would love to add this little lady to my hoard, but hubby wants a new camera.....at the same price of more as my dolls, it's not fair!!!!
My girl is here! She is absolutely gooooorgeous. My photos really don't do her justice. There's not a lot of light here atm, because of bad weather, so only 2 pics for now. Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow, so I can take more. I need to find some clothes for her - she is too tiny for Narae stuff, but I'll have a rummage around in my dolly clothing stash, lol! Her name is Darcie. I love her!
OMG. Best news ever! Here's a couple more pics I took of Darcie today. I still can't get my camera to do her justice! The mini dress she is wearing was actually intended for Blythe dolls, but I got it to stretch!
Here's a pic of Darcie standing next to my 43cm Narae, Vesper. I apologise for the horrible photo - It was literally a quick flash shot before my camera battery decided to die on me. I should be taking some proper comparison pics soon
thank you Inamourada Flux for that pic!! that is just what I needed to see. Briar is much smaller than I thought- just gorgeous though she is just lovely....tempted. too small for 16" Tonner - but perhaps some of the Tiny Kitty clothing would work? I hope someone will have a tan girl to share pics of.... please-have a cookie (bribery....) ~kate
Here's Darcie wearing a sweater made for Tyler Wentworth. It actually fits rather well. It's a teeny-tiny bit long in the sleeves, but otherwise looks pretty nice I think!
The verdict... OK, have you ever opened a doll and said. Huh, not what I was expecting. Not in a bad way, just a little doubtful. And then you put their eyes in and you say. "Oh, well hello there.". And then the wigs and you say "Oh..the possibilites." And then you dress her and she starts coming to life in your hands. And then you take her picture and yes....she is fabulous. Well that was my day with Briar. I absolutely love this doll. Every time I position her she looks great. Her face is simply mesmerizing. She can look sophisticated one moment and innocent the next. OK, enough now. Off to sew some more!
A couple more. I must say, she is the most photogenic doll ever. I mean she's just as beautiful IRL, but sometimes it's just so hard to take good pics of great dolls. She makes it easy! And no, I don't have a bigbuck camera. Kodak Easyshare. A hundred bucks!
Spampy, she looks so lovely in your pics! Even with your un-fancy camera, you take such good pics. I'm so excited to see her in professionally made clothes instead of the weird concoctions I had her in. (<--- not a professional.) The "real" default is actually slightly more detailed than the one in the promos. It's dumb, but when I designed the default I was afraid I wouldn't be able to reproduce the same faceup over and over (it's my first time having to paint the same thing over and over). So I kinda kept the default in the photo a simpler but in the same mood and palette, figuring that people would be pleasantly surprised if they got a doll with a nicer faceup than the one pictured. I've been painting a million Briars in preparation for the little LE release at IDEX in Florida next week. I painted each one with a different expression and coloration... it was fun! I don't have eyes or wigs for them here (those are at AtNouveau), but I wanted to share a couple of the different expressions. (This one is my favorite - she just looks really cool to me.) (This one was in Twigling's honor, since Twigs likes girls with pouty brows). I like her with thicker brows and heavier blushing...
I may be the only one to nay-say her a little bit. I like her body, but I really don't like the hands and I'm uncertain about her face. Definitely realistic, but depending on the photos I go back and forth: like her a lot in owner photos (Darcie and spampy's girl are gorgeous), but I dislike her in the official photos. XD As for her hands, they just look... unfinished to me. Like someone sculpted them in clay, almost finished, then forgot to do the detail work/smoothing on them.
Hmmm. Well then a couple more to help you out! LOL Her hands are a more to human scale than most dolls. Maybe that's the issue? I myself find them just full of so much expression. My part in the fun is creating some one of a kind outfits for Briar for IDEX. Numero uno!
Thanks! The ones in the pic are my Yo or Bambi shoes. Her feet are slimmer, like Bambis. So I'm hoping to find some that are a little more mature and less rounded at the toe.
I've compared Briar to Tyler Wentworth, and she is actually quite similar in size. Tyler of course has a much larger head and wider shoulders, plus she is slightly taller and possibly has a bit more junk in the trunk. I would say Tonner clothing probably would fit on Briar, albeit a little looser in some areas. I think Briar is much more naturally proportioned, more like a real human than a fashion doll, although still a little bit idealised and stylised of course.
Oh don't feel too sorry for me becasue... A. I love this doll B. I love sewing for this doll and C. I'm only making a couple of things. Just to show off the versatilty of Briar! Speaking of which..... Looked kind of plain...so I added a necklace and belt.
I've also been asked to sew a few things for Briar. I received a lovely tan doll to use as a fit model at about the same time Spampy got her doll, but my 3 month old son is getting a lot more of my time than dolly sewing these days! I have some other outfits started, but I had to put them aside because the things I finished just weren't perfect enough. I decided to make something simpler instead. Here's a closer picture of her face, for those of you thinking about adding a Briar to your home The paint is wonderful--but, if she were mine, she'd get some freckles! --Andrea
Congrats human_doll, you're gonna love her! Here's an artsy pic of Darcie. You can see better how the Tyler sweater fits.
I saw this doll at IDEX and she is just breathtaking in person. I was going to buy one (the edition of 20, along with some display OOAKs that armeleia painted were wonderful) but I don't think they ever went up for sale. My only wish is that she were more of a "standard" size like a slim-mini or even a regular fashion doll, but she is teeny compared to those. About halfway in between a Tyler and a Barbie I'd guess and a totally different in-between size to any other BJD I can think of. So I do hope the artist does another doll in a more usual BJD size. I'd buy one for sure.
Well... what can i say? This doll has the most beautiful face i've ever seen before. But she has absolutely unattractive hands. And one more thing - she was been polished in a very bad way and i can see a lot of unevennesses on her body. Why was the author so inattentive toward the body of the doll? She could be much more beautiful that she is...
Hmm, I think her hands are lovely. And I wonder which photographs of Briar you are referencing when you are trying to point out "polishing". What you are seeing as unevenness may just be the way the light is hitting the resin.
I see what people are saying about the uneven texture of her hands in the official photographs, but I think lighting might have a bit to do with it, and to me it doesn't look like anything that couldn't be easily remedied with some gentle sanding and blushing
I have some fun news to post - Briar made the cover of DOLLS magazine!! I painted this girl, made the wig and costume. I'm so excited to see her, can't wait to pick up the paper version of the magazine. One of the OOAK Briars, Secret Garden Briar, was also featured in that issue. Another OOAK Briar, Candybox Briar, was in the Doll Reader 2009 Debut of Dolls issue too! Now that those are out, I can finally post a few of the pics I've been holding on to for months! I did all the sewing, painting, and wigmaking on these. I hate sewing, so I'm glad they're done. The best pics are in the magazines, obviously.... but here are some that didn't make it in. (This pic makes me laugh because she's just standing on my work desk!) I haven't actually seen what the IDEX specials looked like all together... but I think Catrina is going to be offering some of them online. I don't know the details though. Maybe she can contribute some pics later. I want one to make into an armored Joan of Arc for a friend, but no money.
Sorry it's been so long--thanks for the comments on the first dress! Here's the outfit I finished this week, which is actually what I started, but it's gone through many changes (only the tights are the same as my original idea) --Andrea
Ooooo what gorgeous Briars and clothes, I want them all!! I have to say her hand sculpt is not my favourite part, but I think that reflects the artist's background as a ooak sculpter rather than a bjd sculptor. I like that - Briar is different from the rest, and has a feel of a ooak sculpt to me and I really really hope I can get one this year
Armelia you do amazing work!!! I wouldnt have gotten the cover without you! I am stunned by your painting and clothing! Im really glad that people get to see her like this! I especialy love that red dress! Andrea yours looks great too the whole ensemble really creative. I was dyign to see her in your mixed retro prints! To address the hands. They dont look as wonky and large as they do in photos, but I have to admit I wasnt entirely pleased with them either. Therese gave them a base coat and the doll I got back has smooth hands.
Hi everyone! I just returned from IDEX this past week, and working hard trying to dig out of the mountains of dolls, tables, bolts of fabric, lighting and all the other things I drove to Florida with.... Just a quick sneak peek of the IDEX Briars... which were called Captiva Briar. My photographs don't do them justice.. they were painted by Armeleia, and costumed by Ruth King. We have a small group of Captiva Briars which will go up for sale in the next day or so. I have to photograph each one's face.. since they are all different. Also kudos to DOA's Spampy and Dolls Ahoy for their creative outfits.. I'll have more information on them soon too.. more in the next day.. we're taking pics as fast as we can. Catrina
Hi everyone! I am still taking pictures here.. whew~! But I found these really fun shots that were taken at 2 am as I was packing up the girls in steamer trunk trays. I was so happy with how they turned out and really proud of them! Armeleia's gorgeous faceups, and Ruth King's dreamy little dresses (my costumer) and Spampy's cool modern outfits -- guys, really you did such a fabulous job. The idea for these "Captiva Briar" girls was that they were sea goddesses. I sat with Ruth and we chose two colors of a soft material and made the dresses reversible-- so you can change them back and forth as you wish from blush to beige. Since IDEX is held in Florida, I wanted them to have an exotic feel of the sea with a little art nouveau touch-- so they have soft crowns of cut gauze on their heads, waists, or golden ribbons at the hips. And we wanted each girl to be different and special in some way. So you'll see some of them have face tattoos.. and they are also in pinky white and tanned resins. I just love them and hope you enjoy seeing them too. CAPTIVA BRIARS on the way to IDEX in FLORIDA (more following) And we'll have them all up for sale soon. When we are ready, we'll let you know they are available.
beautiful!! I can't wait to get my Briar! Could someone take a pic of a Briar next to an MSD for me, I have all the measuremetns but I really want to see her compared to others
Catrina said she was imagining Briar dressed in soft colors and antique lace--here's my interpretation of that: The next outfit, though, will be my normal mix of prints that probably shouldn't really be used together... --Andrea
I have an addiction to making doll clothes with severely mixed prints and working buttons... --Andrea
I'm very happy to share my new "Chimère".... She's wonderfull, realistic body and good poseable !!! But I think the doll was assembly wrong arms...the elbow come front and I suppose that could be better go in back ! She needs sanding for the eyes, hands but it's ok ! I'm really enjoy to have her and next steps : the make up ! See other pictures in my flick website BTW: no certificat included in the box? Do the others owner's briar have it ?
Human doll, yes the upper arms have definitely been switched, they should be the other way around. She's lovely ~ looking forward to see what you do with her faceup Not sure about the certificate....
Andrea I LOVE your fabric combos... And it got me to wanting to sew for the young lady. LOL Man, if I could only blink my eyes and have her bod.....
Dear Chimere, I think Twigling is right-- we are really sorry! Each one of these dolls is unique, but she shouldn't be THAT unique... I'm sure this was a case of "tired eyes." Please email me personally if you need assistance switching the arms. I will help you if you need anything. Best wishes Catrina
Oh ! Yes she's unique But I've already change her arms...It was not difficult. But I want to know if you included the COA with and you forgot to put in my box ? That good be fine for the next owners
here is my lovely Briar (no certificate- is there supposed to be one? For future, if there isn't it would be nice to have one) No face up yet as only just got here! She is dressed in a YOsd dress that fits her perfectly! Obviously very short but cute! No name yet, but she will be my Victorian Waif, I am going to sand her further and body blush her.
littlepinkfaery - Congrats, she is lovely! I love the wig. And she looks really ethereal without a faceup...
Im curious why everyone wants certificates? what do you so with them? honestly i loose mine, or they may stay in the box but I see no need for one? they just help know if you are not buying a "fake" but in ordering direct you cant get a fake? just wondering......
It's just because normally I have all the COA for my dolls... It could be help when you want it to sell in second hand and be sure for the buyer it's not a fake one ...
ecaxtly waht human doll said. Also inmore limited and rare dolls like this it is nice to know whatr number doll it is. Certificates proove that she is not a fake If I ever have to sell her on- I don' t intend to but time has taught me that you do fall out of love with sometimes. I have sold several now- two to make room for Briar!
Congrats, she is an amazing doll Flux - I have always seen an ethereal, fairy-like doll, and I am hoping that she will be released with elf ears at some point in the future, which is why I've not bought her yet (oh and a lack of money too!). I think she would make an amazing fairy, so delicate
ow you have to look at her blog she already made one with elf ears!!! http://sleetwealth.blogspot.com/ i think they are really pretty, but she will be even more beautifull with elf ears, i think she was ment to be a fairy al along.. lamira
numbering is nice, id like it if they were numbered right in the head or something though, I dont want to keep track of papers
