Simply Divine Discussion - Part 2

I sanded out the neck on my Thomas and now he fits on the 18m Dollshe Mystic body. Now he gets to kinda just hang out a while till I've gotten through my list of faceups >__>. Which, thankfully is only one that HAS to go before him. . . buuuuuut yes. Here he is. Grayscale because the body's blushed and thus not matchy.

I'm trying to decide what to do for my own Thomas- the Spiritdoll Proud body, or maybe something else. I am not sure yet... I wish I could see him on Ringdoll's 68cm body and get a feel for the proportions there.

Next day Edit: I have finally chosen! The current Spiritdoll proud body checks all the boxes I need and even comes in Tan! So that's the body I have finally chosen and ordered. Now the waiting....

I finally got my hands on one of these guys, a secondhand Thomas.
The plan right now is to replace my Loki's D.i.M head cuz its too big next to the granado Uranus head I have for my Thor.

I haven't checked it next to Thor yet because I'm too tired to dig for him but the face area is definitely smaller and more narrow like the Uranus head.

So whenever I decide if it's the right size or not I can do some dye matching. Right now he's on a normal pink Doll Family-H 68cm body, so I would have to make him pinker. Not completely sure on his current color, bone maybe. Hard to tell.

 

@Leader of the Rats Blushing a head to match the body is a pretty easy thing to do instead of dyeing the head. Dyeing is really difficult to match.

I agree with SteamWitch, blushing a single part to match is much easier and more predictable than dyeing a doll (or part).

 

Congratulations on your Thomas! Mine was the wrong color too (I ordered the wrong color, so it was my fault), but I was able to blush him to match the intended body. I knew I would have to regardless as no ones ever made a matching color to Dollzone’s normal yellow from 2015. Either way I hope you will enjoy your Thomas too!

I would also recommend just blushing the head to match, or getting it color matched to the body. Dyeing can quickly go too dark or vibrant, and it’s hard to get a colormatch accurate.

 

I found a tutorial that uses a very minimal amount of rit dyemore. I figure if it doesn't work oh well, I tried. I'm not new to dyeing things and I will test on the headcap first. I'd rather not get a new body since I quite like this one.

After ages of deliberation over the right form vs joints I like or dislike, I think I might have finally found a body I can use for my Thomas! I'd own so many more of these heads if there are ever slightly smaller versions made via scanning and 3D printing, I think- They're so gorgeous but so BIG!

 

Agreed. I adore my Harlequin, but I'm seriously thinking about reshelling him because his head looks so out of proportion to the rest of the crew he's with. It sucks because he's otherwise perfect.

The obnoxious trend of shrinking down heads (and whole dolls) has scratched a lot of companies off of my purchase list. To be brutally honest, I'm getting really tired of finally finding the perfect doll/body only for it to be "refreshed" several centimeters shorter, or discontinued without notice, before I can pull the trigger

 

I can understand that frustration. Though usually it's me wanting companies to size up the dolls/heads. With this one exception. My Harlequin is supposed to be short compared to the others in the group, but for him to have a proportionate body he'd end up being the biggest. Which just doesn't work for his character. It sucks.

 

Have you guys seen the news about the new Meeksdolls? These 70cm bodies would possibly fit even Harlequin, with 19 cm shoulders~

 

I have seen them - they are incredibly stunning. But the horrific exchange rate puts them well out of my budget for this year. Even with a layaway the amount of money I lose in currency conversion is enough for another entire doll.

 

Ooph, that's brutal! I almost always feel some sticker shock after currency conversion, but nothing that drastic

 

It's disgusting. That plus all the shipping issues we're having (mostly people just not shipping to us like we're in Narnia or something) is literally killing the BJD hobby in my country. I lucked into getting my Harlequin head a body this year, which was mercifully cheap second hand, but a lot of my wishlist is pretty unattainable at the moment and it's left me feeling stuck.

 

I really feel for the dolly collectors of Oz just lately. And the economic problems that could present in business and lives. Here's hoping that will change sometime soon.

I have secured a Dollshe Pose + body for my Thomas head! Yey! I know someone else has a Thomas on a dollshe body and it looked nice, so I am confident this will work. (I will end up dyeing the doll and head to get the character his tan, though; that'll be a project and a half)

I doubt it sadly. Aotearoa is just as screwed as we are and their community is tiny compared to ours. Their cost of living is already through the roof and it genuinely makes me worried for what will happen with us once all of this is over.

Yeah this one is off the MP. Someone had one they've done a little work on for posability, which is just playing my song, and I'll see if there's anything else I want to adjust once I get him here and all strung together again.

AHHH he's here! The Dollshe Mystic Pose + body looks great with the head, proportion-wise, but I do need to do some modding to get the head and neck to join up nicely. No biggie, I shall whittle away at it. I'll be sure to get pics!

@Lirin - I think that's a relatively new sculpt? At least I haven't seen it in the store before, but that might just be a knock against my observational skills - EDIT totally a knock on my observational skills, wasn't that the head there was a contest recently-ish to name?
@Jareth - DUDE. I've been low-key wanting Richard for years too, but I haven't really had a character for him, so no idea what resin color to order (or what body I'd want him on <LIE I'd totally want him on something like the DT18 boy...) Which color did you order? What body is he going to get?

Random question for all y'all - does anyone have a Valentina? I've been struggling with finding a wig for mine. Every 8-9 wig I've tried is too big, but the 7-8 I recently bought her is too small. So frustrating

 

@Girrl Same!! Richard was one of the first sculpts I really wanted ! I ended up getting a Thomas last year and I put him on the DikaDoll 73cm body - I was able to have my Thomas color matched to the body. I ordered my Richard in Magnolia (my Thomas is in sunrise) I think my Richard will likely go on a DikaDoll body too though I’ve been eyeing one of the newer DF-H bodies or SpiritDoll Proud (I also love the DT18)
So excited to finally be getting him!!

Hi everyone! Does anyone have a Thomas and a body with 14cm shoulders they could show me together? I'm hoping to get the Ringdoll Grown RGMbody-4 for Thomas but I'd really like to see how the proportions look first! I'm a little unsure about whether it will be big enough since it's smaller than the other RGM bodies.

 

Maybe someone here could answer a question for me, does Simply Divine still make the Eve sculpt? I've not seen her listed on their Etsy, to my knowledge, but I saw pictures of her when looking in their resin color galleries and she's perfect for the younger sister of a Thomas I plan to buy in the future. I've waffled back and forth with different sculpts cause nothing felt "right", but she's exactly what I want. But, never seeing her around and with few posts/threads about her on here, I'm worried she's not offered anymore or was limited?

 

Unfortunately I think Eve wasn’t terribly popular, so Simply Divine may have chosen to drop her from their lineup. You might contact Simply Divine and see if they could make an Eve for you.

 

I don't have the RGM 4 body, I have 3 which I know is much bulkier, but the first problem you'll find is that Ringdoll 0 rings do not fit through the Simple Divine neck holes, so they'll need restringing to go on the body in the first place.

For this reason the only thing I could do that was even close was compare the RGM 4 with an equally large head, which is my impldoll Lanny.
I think a good comparative to show a large head on narrow shoulders is the original release Sard, which I think the Lenny head is a good comparative for, both style, head size and general shape of his face.

My Thomas is on a Winter Rain Cloud 68cm body for reference sake.

Anyway, I hope any of that was helpful, at least in some way. Apologies for the photo quality also, I don't have the best winter lighting situation, for Britains grave yard gloom that is December.

@Terra-hime could I ask you a question? I see you have impledoll and a simply divine head. Could you check for me if the head fits on the body?

 

Hi, I only have the Lanny head, and a Star and model female body, so unfortunately I can’t check against the idol body that Lanny usually comes on.
I do think the scale would be a good match though, judged on the proportions of Lanny in comparison to Thomas.

My Richard (named Opal) arrived on Monday and I was able to finish his Faceup today. I got him in Venetian Luna White so I could color match him easier to his intended body (DF-A 65cm boy Boyd in normal pink), which won’t be ready to ship for at least another 3 months.


I should commission him some fitting clothes in the mean time…

 

I received the body for Opal (my Richard), and I quickly determined he needed a different wig and set of eyes.

So here he is as he’s now!

Val, my Simply Divine Thomas, got a recent body upgrade as well, to the DFA 70cm one. The neck hole is a little small, but I don't want to mod either and it is passable as is.

Which reminds me, I need to sort out my Valentina's wig and get some decent pictures taken of her, but that's unlikely to get done today, or anytime soon, sadly (elbow surgery #4 is looming on the horizon, UGH!)
